WOLFHEART unleashes the ice age on the melodic death metal scene with their blazing third single “Cold Flame”, cut from their upcoming full-length, King of the North, out this Friday, September 16, 2022 via Napalm Records!

King of the North continues right where their last two releases – Wolves of Karelia (2020) and the Skull Soldiers EP (2021) – left off, taking every aspect of their trademark blend of colossal melodies, earth-shaking vocals, gripping lyricism and driving rhythms to searing new levels. The new album manifests WOLFHEART at the top of their genre – millions of streams on Spotify alone prove that they are here to stay!

“Cold Flame” showcases WOLFHEART’s trademark melodic death metal sound at artistic levels never heard before, featuring none other than icon Karl Sanders of legendary extreme metal group NILE!

WOLFHEART’s Tuomas Saukkonen about “Cold Flame”:
“’Cold Flame’ is deep diving trip into the mythology behind the northern lights. The mystic phenomenon that has been enchanting people in the nordic realm for ages. Cold and grandiose are words to describe both the stories behind the lyrics and the music itself. Monstrous growls from Karl Sanders were a cherry on top of a cake to rise the song into a new level.”

Each song on King of the North is dedicated to a different story of Finnish mythology – underlined by WOLFHEART’s grand, crushing songwriting and production. “The King”, for instance, tells the tale of the forest god with horns and pianos accompanying heavy guitar riffs and solos, before raising the energy levels once more on the relentless “Cold Flame” featuring Karl Sanders. “Ancestor” is the album’s most frostbitten anthem, unleashing WOLFHEART’s acclaimed brand of crushing blast beasts and cutting-edge vocal performances alongside guest Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage. King of the North is a true masterpiece of melodic death metal, crafted with loads of attention to detail and intricate mythology-driven storytelling – showcasing WOLFHEART at never-before-heard artistic levels!

WOLFHEART’s guitarist/vocalist Tuomas Saukkonen about King of the North:
“After Wolves of Karelia, it made a lot of sense to continue writing thematic albums, but this time I wanted to travel a lot further in history than the Second World War and went straight to tales about creation of the Nordic world, ancient gods of the north and majestic nature. The colorful theme also inspired me to write the musically most diverse WOLFHEART album and also bring the biggest variation of vocals than ever before, putting Lauri and Vageliss in their well-earned spotlight.”

JORDSJØ Announce Two November Releases on Karisma Records

With a stellar reputation on the Oslo Prog Scene, and their 2021 third full-length album winning them plaudits and introducing them to a much wider audience, Norwegian duo JORDSJØ will be back in November with two new releases courtesy of Karisma Records.

Whilst not exactly new material, with one having had only a very limited release, and the other having undergone a substantial “refresh” and expansion, ”Nattfiolen Suite” and ”Jord Sessions” will come as a welcome, and worthy, addition to the JORDSJØ ‘s catalogue.

Originally written and recorded for JORDSJØ’s second full-length album “Nattfiolen”,  the  ”Nattfiolen Suite” was a lengthy, virtually stand-alone piece, that proved to be much too long to fit on the album itself, and, as a consequence, was solely released digitally on Bandcamp.  However, such was its popularity that there  has been a growing demand for a physical release of ”Nattfiolen Suite”.  And Karisma Records is happy to oblige with the release of a 10″ gold vinyl edition, which will be strictly limited to 300 copies.

Fans of JORDSJØ who don’t have the means to play vinyl will not need to feel disappointed though, because ”Nattfiolen Suite” will be available as a bonus track on the CD version of the ”Jord Sessions” release.

With artwork by Sindre Foss Skancke, tracklisting on ”Nattfiolen Suite” is as follows:

1. Nattfiolen Suite (part 1)
2. Nattfiolen Suite (part 2)

“Jord” was considered by the band to be their first “proper” album, because, up until its release, JORDSJØ had only produced homemade tapes, which they sold to friends and a few die-hard collectors.  Its release is what really drew fans attention to the band, not only within Norway itself, but also world-wide.  However, JORDSJØ had never been happy with the mix, as the band explains

When “Jord “came out in early 2017, it was a different time for us. This was to date our fourth release and what would be our first proper album. Up until that point, we only sold our 50 homemade tapes to friends and a few die-hard collectors, but “Jord” got us a bigger audience, also outside Norway. The mixing was done badly and also with the intent of only a tape release, so we thought it deserved a refreshed look and the inclusion of  the other songs that had been recorded on the same weekend in the summer of 2016. Hence, the “Jord Sessions”.

”Jord Sessions”  has been re-mixed from scratch and, aside from a new organ track on “Abstraksjoner..” and some bells and percussion on “Valinors Lamper”, all other tracks on ”Jord Sessions”  remain true to the originals.  Its  underlying theme of alienation, roots and dreams, gives “Jord Sessions”  an organic and dynamic sound reminiscent of ’70s prog.  With traces of electronic music and folk, and the use of flute, guitars and a vast array of vintage synths “Jord Sessions”  has a warm,  vintage sound that still manages to sound fresh and interesting.

”Jord Sessions”  will be available in CD, Digital and Limited Edition Red Vinyl formats, and with artwork by Sindre Foss Skancke,  tracklisting is as follows:

01. Over Vidda
02. Abstraksjoner fra et Dunkelt Kammer
03. Jord I
04. I Momos Trädgård
05. La meg forsvinne
06. Jord II
07. Se Valinors Lamper
08. Nattfiolen Suite (CD only)

Both ”Nattfiolen Suite” and ”Jord Sessions” will be available on Karisma Records on the 25th November, and are now available to pre-order from:

By melding Progressive rock with interesting melodies, and giving the whole a Folk-inspired twist JORDSJØ’s lineup of multi instrumentalist Håkon Oftung (TUSMØRKE, BLACK MAGIC) and drummer Kristian Frøland pay reverence to the traditions of the best of last centuries’ Nordic Prog Rock whilst giving it their own individual take.

Finnish Artist VUOLA Gives Farewell to Summer with New Music Video ‘Astra Lucia Omnia Ultra Verum’

VUOLA is a psychedelic rock project of a Finnish drummer, producer and studio manager Jussi Vuola. ‘Astra Lucia Omnia Ultra Verum’ is the last single from the critically acclaimed spring album ‘Alouv’ and a farewell to summer with it’s beautiful, full of nature music video.

See music video on YouTube, listen on music services

“Astra Lucia Omnia Ultra Verum” is the last single of debut artist VUOLA: a Finnish drummer, producer and studio manager Jussi Vuola. In his music there’s a shimmer in darkness, a touch in space, beauty in distortion and aspiration in despair. A history of growing with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the like is being shaped with low tunings, vibration and chanting on his concept album based both on geometrics and syntax.

The B-side of the single is a choir version of the longest title ‘Omana Omala Ogana Odati Ojoda’ performed in Sanskrit language.

All proceeds of the well received album will be donated to the victims of the Ukraine war during year 2022 via Unicef.

ABOUT JUSSI VUOLA: Jussi Vuola has played drums since his teenage years in a variety of acts, including the Finnish bands The Grammers, Mystons, Willie & The Goodsouls and Achiote, to name a few. In 2010 he put together an analog recording studio in Turku, Finland that has become a home for a lot of acts. Hundreds of gigs around the globe, tens of albums he has played on, and hundreds of releases he has taken part of production on, have shaped him to the person he is today. Over the years, it became clear it was time for him to make a move downstage. In 2022, he is leading a talented five-piece under his own name to venues, with himself on vocals & guitar.

From beginning to end, there’s no arguing the aesthetical origins of Vuola’s first album Alouv; both in form and execution, this is undeniably a rock record, but the way it goes about presenting physicality and musical might in the way most rock releases do is surprisingly innovative. Alouv challenges us to think about rock in an entirely different fashion. – Jennifer Munoz – Vents Magazine

Prog Rock Guitarist DALLAS PERKINS Releases New Album “Experimental Truth”

On Dallas Perkins’ latest release “Experimental Truth” his stellar technical proficiency and dexterity are on full display. We are now hearing six-string wisdom come to full fruition. Showcasing a guitarist that is clearly steeped in melody, the music allows us to join the conversation with breathing room, suspense, and brilliantly placed pauses in these layered compositions. Perkins is not just a guitarist with attention grabbing technique, he is a composer reflecting influences spanning centuries of music history absorbed and personalized over decades finally distilled into a singular artistic statement.

Dallas said of “Experimental Truth”: “With this album, I really wanted to grab the listener’s attention with harmonic complexity and melodic simplicity. My hope is that it will satisfy fans of my previous work. But beyond that, my goal was to create a cohesive theme connecting each composition as in the spirit of the concept album. With the absence of lyrical content, I wanted the music to stand on its own and perhaps evoke a visual dimension. In short, I hope to inspire each listener’s imagination to create their own interpretation and imagery.”

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Dallas cites his original six-string inspirations as Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Howe and Ritchie Blackmore, among other heavyweights from the era. After paying his dues in clubs and festivals, lending his chops to various cover bands and original acts, he headed West.

In Los Angeles, Dallas became a respected member of the emerging wave of technically proficient players as well as an in-demand instructor at famed Hollywood music school Musician’s Institute and National Guitar Summer Workshop.

Taking on a few hired gun gigs, he eventually found himself relocated to the Tampa Bay area of Florida. During that time, he began releasing a series of critically acclaimed instrumental material. His debut release, “Looking Glass,” was hailed by critics in both Guitar World and Guitar for the Practicing Musician magazines. He was quickly recruited into Virgin recording artists Roxx Gang, both in the studio and on the road.

Dallas’ style has continued to evolve and broaden since the release of his self-produced, acclaimed solo CDs, including the breakout smash “Emergent Behavior” and the follow up “Unbecoming.”

Dallas currently performs live with his own solo band throughout Southern California. He is also a staple in the Los Angeles music scene, a sought after touring and session musician and a regular on Hollywood’s promo buzz show, Ultimate Jam Night.

HELSTAR started their Heavy Metal crusade in 1982, and by the end of the ‘80s builded a position of one of the most important American bands of the genre. Their first two albums, “Burning Star” from 1984 and “Remnants Of War” from 1986, were released by the legendary Combat Records label, and the next two, “A Distant Thunder” (1988) and “Nosferatu” (1989) by – no less legendary – Metal Blade. In 1995 HELSTAR did an album entitled “Multiples Of Black”, then regrouped, and returned with new force in the new millenium. While due to high demand their classic albums were reissued multiple times in all possible formats and variations, the band channeled their energy into new music, released 5 new studio albums between 2007 and 2016, and toured extensively around each one of them. Fronted by the charismatic vocalist James Rivera, who also worked with such legendary acts as VICIOUS RUMORS, AGENT STEEL and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, the band is here to stay, and deadly serious in what they do: new studio album is currently in the works, and has been scheduled for the release in 2023.
