GRIN Stream Brand New Album “Phantom Knocks”, in Its Entirety

Nothing has changed yet everything is different when it comes to Phantom Knocks, the third studio album by Berlin-based heavy psych doom duo GRIN, consisting of unshakeable power couple Jan and Sabine Oberg (Earth Ship, Slowshine). Today, on October 14th, the band is celebrating the release of their new collection of eight shamanic yet heavy-as-hell desert rituals that emanate from the mysterious space between the supernatural and the extraterrestrial. GRIN are streaming Phantom Knocks in its entirety!

The manic tribal beat of album opener “Transcendence”, comes rolling in like a psychic thunderstorm, extrapolating the collision of millions of tiny aqueous ions to the mighty thunder of Sabine Oberg’s bass, which continues to send seismic shockwaves throughout the rest of the album to leave you shaking on your feet. Meanwhile Jan Oberg’s clean voice and spectral grunts create a haze through which high pitched droning guitars fade in and out, like tones of supernatural frequencies cutting through the haze of reality. Phantom Knocks takes you on a rocking ride across shifting extraterrestrial desertscapes, while your spirit flies high above in a mystic transportation through the astral plane.

GRIN have teamed up with Invisible Oranges, for an exclusive pre-album listening premiere. Stream Phantom Knocks HERE!

The groundwork of GRIN’s trademark heavy drum and bass sound was already laid as early as their 2018 debut album Revenant, which is no surprise, since Jan and Sabine have been actively making heavy riff-laden tunes for over ten years. Translucent Blades in 2020 further solidified GRIN’s brand of sludgy psychedelic doom metal with the addition of high pitched guitar drones and eerie soundscapes. Again recorded in Jan Oberg’s own Hidden Planet Studio, Phantom Knocks has the same earth-shattering qualities as its predecessors, but is in every way more vivid and more powerful, aptly demonstrating how the Berliners have perfected their chemistry.

Phantom Knocks is available as CD, Tape Cassette and Digital formats on October 14, 2022, with a Vinyl release to follow soon. The album will be issued by the band’s own label imprint The Lasting Dose Records, you can purchase your copy at THIS LOCATION!

Following the end of Wildernessking’s career, Keenan Oakes had to continue making music, despite the difficulties of playing in a metal band in Cape Town, South Africa. Regardless, Oakes joined forces with Crow Black Sky’s Gideon Lamprecht in 2018 to create the musical entity known as CONSTELLATIA. Taken from the word ‘constellation’, CONSTELLATIA refers to the nature of existence and the natural world, the cosmos, and extracting meaning and happiness from it all. The band’s somber take on progressive black metal encapsulates inherently human subjects; a distillation of life’s meander, sadness and tribulations.

Inspired by artists such as Opeth, Mastodon, The Cure, Primordial, Neurosis, Wolves in the Throne Room, Pink Floyd, Beach House, Agalloch, Emperor and Cult of Luna,Constellatia imbue their stark musical landscape with ferocity and reverie. Following the release of their debut record via Isolation Records in 2019, The Language of Limbs, CONSTELLATIA was very quick to garner the attention of listeners around the world, leading to their acknowledgement and subsequent signing to the large, independent record label, Season of Mist. While The Language of Limbs sounds bleak and tends to instill a sense of longing within the listener, it too sparks an idyllic feeling of catharsis with the mesmerizing atmospheric soundscapes and subtle intoxicating harmonies.

Now with Season of Mist’s support moving forward with their sophomore record, CONSTELLATIA have the footing and foundation to fully expand on their musical endeavours. The new album which is set to release on November the 11th 2022, shows CONSTELLATIA continuing to evolve on their already mature sound, creating these larger-than-life romantic compositions that express the emotional spectrum of simply being; an amorphous progressive metal experience enriched with lavish ambiance and ripe with spirit, unique to them alone.
From the very start, the goal with CONSTELLATIA was to create emotionally dense and textured metal that is both transcendent and incredibly human. With the release of their upcoming record later this year, CONSTELLATIA will reveal just how much more dynamic and vulnerable their music has become. It may seem that the band is now hitting their stride, but they have only just begun. Plans are being made to tour the many corners of the world in support of their new album and subsequent releases.

Planet Rock’s Rocktober concerts starts Saturday October 15th at Bristol O2 Academy with headliners Reef, plus special guests King King, When Rivers Meet and The Damn Truth.

Wilko Johnson headlines London O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Tuesday October 18th with special guests King King and When Rivers Meet.

Sweet headline the Sheffield O2 Academy on Saturday October 22nd with special guests King King, When Rivers Meet, and The Damn Truth.

Tickets for all three shows are available from planetrocktickets.com and thegigcartel.com.

Reef first came to public recognition when they toured with Paul Weller, the Rolling Stones and Soundgarden in 1994 and 1995.  They released their debut album “Replenish” om 1995 which went gold and featured the singles “Good Feeling” and “Naked.” The album was recorded in the remote Cornish Sawmills recording studio and in a studio in Bath. In mid-1995 they released a four-track single release: “Weird.” The follow-up to “Replenish” was 1997’s sophomore album “Glow,” with the band using more varied instruments and was produced by the Black Crowes’ record producer, George Drakoulious and engineered by Jim Scott, in Los Angeles. It spawned the singles “Place Your Hands,” “Come Back Brighter,” “Consideration” and “Yer Old.” “Glow” went straight to number 1 in the UK Albums Chart. “Place Your Hands”, released on 21 October 1996, was Reef’s most successful, and reached #6 in the UK Singles Chart.

Wilko Johnson was the guitarist for the pub rock/rhythm & blues band Dr. Feelgood in the 1970s. Wilko is known for his distinctive guitar playing style which he achieved by not using a pick but instead relying on fingerstyle. This enabled him to play rhythm guitar and riffs or solos at the same time creating a highly percussive guitar sound. Johnson developed his own image, coupling jerky movements on stage (his so-called “duck walk”) with a choppy guitar style, occasionally raising his guitar to his shoulder like a gun, and a novel dress sense (black suit and a pudding bowl haircut). He achieved his playing style by not using a pick but instead relying on fingerstyle. This enabled him to play rhythm guitar and riffs or solos at the same time creating a highly percussive guitar sound. Dr Feelgood were an influence on the English punk movement. Paul Weller has said of Johnson: “Wilko may not be as famous as some other guitarists, but he’s right up there, and there are a lot of people who’ll say the same. It’s some legacy.”

Sweet are a British rock and roll institution with a pedigree of 50 years of hit singles. They’ve sold 55 million albums and had 34 number #1 hit singles. Hailed by many as a national treasure with a loyal fanbase, their dazzling arsenal of rock music stands the test of time. The music is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago when Sweet first stormed the UK Charts in January 1971. The band is fronted by original founding member and guitarist, Andy Scott.  Sweet’s hit iconic glam rock singles include “Ballroom Blitz,” “Fox On The Run,” “Little Willy,” “Blockbuster,” “Love Is Like Oxygen,” and many more.

King King received critical acclaim from their 2020 album ‘Maverick’. King King were nominated for “Blues Band of the Year” at the UK Blues Awards 2022. “Maverick” follows 2017’s critically acclaimed album “Exile & Grace” and features Alan Nimmo (vocals, guitar), Stevie Nimmo (guitar), Jonny Dyke (organ, piano), Zander Greenshields (bass) and Andrew Scott (drums). Produced by Alan Nimmo, Jonny Dyke and Liam McCluskey, “Maverick” is co-written by Alan Nimmo, Zander Greenshields (bass), Jonny Dyke, and Andrew Scott, with lyrics co-written by Alan Nimmo and newest member Stevie Nimmo (guitar).

When Rivers Meet, comprised of British husband and wife Grace and Aaron Bond, released their critically acclaimed sophomore album “Saving Grace” in November 2021. Last year they were the first band to win four awards at the UK Blues Awards including “Blues Band of the Year,” “Blues Album of the Year,” “Emerging Blues Artist of the Year,” and “Most Inspirational Online Performance of the Year.” WRM were also voted “Best New Band” by the listeners of Planet Rock at the radio station’s “The Rocks” Awards. This year the band won three UK Blues Awards including “Blues Album of the Year” (Saving Grace), “Blues Band of the Year,” and “Blues Vocalist of the Year” (Grace Bond). In 2021 they won “Album of the Year” (beating Iron Maiden) at Planet Rock’s “The Rocks” Awards. WRM recently finished their first headline UK tour and will play festivals in Summer 2022.

The Damn Truth experienced considerable success on UK radio with the release of their 2021 single “This Is Who We Are Now” with support from Planet Rock and a spot play on BBC Radio 2’s Rock Show with Johnnie Walker. The single features on their current album “Now or Nowhere” produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Aerosmith). TDT have been championed by the British music press with extensive coverage in Classic Rock, Blues Matters, Guitarist, Powerplay, Guitar Techniques, Record Collector, Fireworks, Blues in Britain, Hard Rock Hell, MNPR and R’N’R Magazine. The band, comprised of Lee-La Baum (lead vocals, guitar), Tom Shemer (guitar), PY Letellier (bass) and Dave Traina (drums), have toured with Z.Z. Top (and partied with Billy Gibbons in his pyjamas), the Sheepdogs, Styx, and Rival Sons.

LIFE OF AGONY / SPOILER NYC Bassist Alan Robert Arrested in Brooklyn?

Alan Robert has been up to no good. Since he returned from touring the world with his band Life of Agony, he’s been seen in New York City driving around in an old checkered cab dressed as Taxi Driver’s Travis Bickle. Most recently, he was caught on video being arrested at the Lucky 13 Saloon in Brooklyn, NY.

It’s all in good fun though. Robert has resurrected his punk rock trio Spoiler NYC to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the group’s debut album with a pair of music videos and a brand-new, remastered release titled Banned in 38 States.

“I grew up on punk rock when it was dangerous. When burned out buildings lined Hell’s Kitchen instead of these shiny, billion-dollar, high-rise condos. We’re bringing back that raw, old-school angst with Spoiler NYC,” said Robert. “I remember the feeling that chaos could break out at any given moment…”

Watch Spoiler NYC’s “Banned in 38 States” Music Video:

Watch Spoiler NYC’s “Damaged Goods” Music Video:

Both videos were directed by Derek Soto/Sinestra Studios with Marissa Ann/Scryer Photo.

Grammy-Award winner Ken Lewis, of Wu Tang Clan, Beastie Boys, and Eminem fame, produced and mixed Spoiler NYC’s “Banned in 38 States” and “Damaged Goods”. Both new songs are included on Spoiler NYC’s new album (also titled “Banned in 38 States”) along with 12 other remastered tracks that first appeared on the group’s 2007 debut “Grease Fire in Hell’s Kitchen”. Remastering was done by Life of Agony’s Joey Zampella at The Nest Studio in Long Island, NY.

“Banned in 38 States” is available everywhere digitally right now, and on limited edition vinyl this Halloween. Vinyl pre-order: https://bit.ly/3SBOSc2

Spoiler NYC is:
Alan Robert: Lead Vocals/Bass
Chris “Junkyard” Silletti: Guitar
Tommy “The Kid” Clayton: Drums

Upcoming Shows:
Friday, 11/18/22: Lucky 13 Saloon, Brooklyn, NY. Spoiler NYC ‘Record Release Show’
Sunday, 12/11/22: Coney Island USA, 1208 Surf Ave. Brooklyn, NY. Matinee.
Sunday, 12/18/22: The Bowery Electric, NYC. All ages matinee.

PEARL JAM Commit to $200 per Ton CO2 for Carbon Offset Strategy

When asked to think of the legendary rock group PEARL JAM, the first image to come to mind is likely the band on stage but Pearl Jam is more than a band. As a company, Pearl Jam moves tons of equipment and people around the globe and stand up and tear down events for tens of thousands of people in a day. In 2003, Pearl Jam began looking at how to track and mitigate its large touring carbon footprint. Since then, the band has made investments totaling over $1 million dollars to offset carbon emissions from touring, putting its money behind the philosophy that private business must acknowledge its role in climate change and voluntarily and substantially invest to accelerate the world’s shift to a renewable economic system.

In continuing their ongoing commitment to acknowledge and address the band’s carbon footprint, Pearl Jam committed to paying $200 per ton of CO2 as its minimum continuing baseline for its Gigaton tour. Globally, the carbon offset market varies widely, with the average falling into $1-15 per ton.

“We are not going to move to a carbon-neutral economy without a massive shift in priorities and behavior. We need huge amounts of capital to innovate, invest, and problem solve to create brand new systems, and we need those investments to be smart and persistent,” says rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard.  “By committing to this aggressive pricing, we hope to amplify our efforts tenfold, highlight the most compelling avenues for carbon sequestration, mitigation, and reduction, and hopefully gather many partners who share our urgency to make the enormous efforts and innovations required to move our world to a carbon balanced and more conscious economy.”

Though big rock tours have significant impacts and will continue to do so until electric trucks and aviation become commonplace, Pearl Jam believes the most promising route to change is to continue to do business while investing capital in different strategies to reduce C02 emissions. Recognizing there is not one silver bullet, the funds from the Gigaton tour will support a layered approach.

The portfolio runs the gamut from sustainable fuels to rainforest protection to photovoltaic technology. Through public awareness, Pearl Jam hopes to inspire other businesses and individuals to respond to climate change individually and wherever possible, collectively investigating and investing in carbon-reducing and mitigating technology, and to do so at a meaningful level.

Securing Protection of Kayapo Indigenous Territories – Partnering with the International Conservation Fund of Canada & Kayapo Indigenous people, Pearl Jam is investing significant resources to help the Kayapo secure the borders of their 22 million acres in the Amazon.  Indigenous lands provide global-scale environmental benefits and retain 25.5% of all carbon stocks in Brazil. Kayapo lands contain (above and below ground) an estimated 2.5 billion tons of carbon, or 9 billion tons of CO2, the equivalent of 1.7 years of total U.S. CO2 emissions.  Pearl Jam’s investment will support a less traditional approach to carbon offsetting by enabling the Kayapo Indigenous people to build guard posts and increase surveillance along the 1,375 miles of Kayapo lands’ border to protect the 22 million acres of pristine rainforest.

Harvesting the Sun on Farms – Pearl Jam is supporting the establishment of the Agrivoltaics Research and Demonstration Station on a part of Warren Wilson College’s 1,200 acre sustainable farm and forestry landscape.  Elevated agrivoltaics produce power overhead while farmers continue farming crops, pasture grasses, and livestock grazing underneath. Recent global mapping found it would require just two percent of existing cultivated farmland to install agrivoltaics to generate virtually all of the world’s total energy demands for all purposes in all sectors. Warren Wilson is one of the nation’s premier experiential work colleges, located near Asheville, North Carolina.

Supporting the Future of Aviation – Pearl Jam is offsetting its aviation travel through the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel from JetBlue Airways in partnership with the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Association. While acknowledging sustainable aviation fuel is an imperfect situation, the reality that large airplanes will not be electrified like smaller aircraft make biofuels imperative for the next several decades. It hopes its investment in sustainable aviation fuel which can lower aviation emissions by upwards of 60 percent will catalyze both supply markets and the necessary oversight to ensure fuels are sourced ethically.

The Nature Conservancy – Pearl Jam is supporting the Washington Rainforest Renewal Project, a forest carbon offset project managed by The Nature Conservancy. Washington’s coastal rainforest is part of the distinctive Emerald Edge landscape spanning across Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Southeast Alaska. The region is home to one of earth’s largest carbon reservoirs, iconic biodiversity and more than 200 indigenous communities and First Nations who have been stewards of this landscape since time immemorial.

Bringing Electric School Buses to the Masses – Pearl Jam is collaborating with Highland Electric Fleets to help empower people around North America to advocate for clean, healthy electric school buses in their communities. The leading provider of fleet electrification-as-a-service in North America, Highland is on a mission to make electric fleets accessible and affordable for all. The company helps school districts, governments, and fleet operators upgrade to electric fleets today for the same cost as or less than their current costs to purchase, operate, and maintain their diesel buses. Active in 30 states and Canada, Highland is responsible for the largest electric school bus deployment in the United States. Pearl Jam is supporting Highland to codify and promote best practices, educational materials, and lessons learned into a simple advocacy toolkit for communities across the country.

In addition to the role of business, the band also hits on individuals’ opportunities as voters to move the issue forward. The band urges everyone to vote for representatives that can commit to supporting policies that make green energy and engineering innovation attractive and build momentum for this transformation. Pearl Jam hopes its efforts will inspire sustained and persistent engagement with a myriad of efforts – in business, policy, and technology – to ultimately transform economies to carbon neutral.
