PIJN Share New Single ‘Weave In’

Ahead of their fast-approaching appearance on the main stage at ArcTanGent Festival, PIJN have today shared a brand new single; their first new music in four years. Titled Weave In, the track is an eleven minute opus that sees a rejuvenated version of PIJN sounding contemplative yet hopeful. Alongside Weave In’s release, the band have also shared an accompanying visualizer.

Stream Weave In via Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp and Spotify

Commenting on the new single, Joe Clayton (guitar) comments: “We’re proud to present Weave In as our first new music since 2018’s ‘Loss‘. To us, this song represents endurance. A dedication to craft and determination to quietly push through the painful and unfamiliar, so that we can really engage with what gives a sense purpose in a world of unknowing. These themes didn’t just inform songwriting and tonal choices, but also personnel, collaboration and instrumentation.”

“We know not what the use o life, nor know the aim, the end, nor aught we know,
But know the work, the need goes on and shall go on, the death-envelop’d march of peace as well as war goes on,
For great campaigns of peace the same wiry threads to weave,
We know not why or what, yet weave, forever weave.”

The Manchester-based band has been in a constant state of evolution since its inception, and the current incarnation reveals a more minimalist approach to songwriting and production. Leaving more ambient space within the song’s structure and leaning towards a less polished finish results in a more organic sound than their more dense earlier work. The addition of saxophone courtesy of new bassist, Ed Bottomley, further adds new layers to the band’s sound.

A shift in line up has also brought about a shift in PIJN’s outlook; a new resilience coupled with a more reflective, instinctive, laid back approach sees them looking eagerly to the future. Their compulsion to persevere is encapsulated in the track title – drawn from a Walt Whitman poem. A recent live outing (in support of Old Man Gloom) saw the band in fine fettle, displaying a sophistication and calmness that belies the length of their time away from the stage.

Work is complete on the follow-up to PIJN’s 2018 album, Loss, with more details due to be unveiled in the coming months. PIJN will perform at Arctangent festival (Thursday, 18 August) with further live dates due further down the line.

Upcoming PIJN live performances:
August 18 – ArcTanGent Festival – Bristol, UK

PIJN is:

Joe Clayton – guitar
Jon Vernon – drums & percussion
Maggie Lister – cello
Ed Bottomley – bass & saxophone
Thomas Ragsdale – synth/tape loops
Claire Northey – violin

Finnish metallers BLACKMENT (founded in 2014 in Hyvinkää) unleash their massive and melodic debut album ”Plains of Oblivion” on September 9. A new single ”Northern Lights” is released today as their third and last preview from the album. The song was recently premiered exclusively on Finnish Radio Rock channel. Additionally, an epic music video for the single will be released next week.

”Northern Lights originates from the early days of our band. I wrote the main melody when I was 16 years old but the song has grown and changed massively over the years. Stylistically Northern Lights leans towards classic heavy metal with some folk influences. The lyrics are heavily influenced by the book series ”His Dark Materials” where one can observe parallel worlds in northern lights,” composer and guitarist Saalas Ruokangas explains.

Blackment has previously released two intriguing singles from the upcoming album: Maw of the Dread and Clouds. The band’s signature sound of melodic and playful guitars combined with Sami Vuorenheimo’s unique and skilled vocal style truly captivates the listener. Traditions of melodic metal from various decades, as well as massiveness and some more modern influences can all be heard.

SALIVA Reach Top 30 at Radio with “Crows”, Release Official Music Video for Single, Announce More Tour Dates

Multi-Platinum, Grammy nominated band SALIVA are in the Top 30 at radio with their latest single “Crows.” This is the highest charting song from Saliva since 2011. In addition, the band released the official music video for the single and have announced more tour dates!

“Crows is about being in a relationship with a person so who is unwilling to recognize the shadow side of their personality, which ultimately leads to destruction of their relationships. We wanted to do something different for the music video. As a band we all love The Halloween season, and horror flicks. Given the title and dark subject matter of the song this was the perfect opportunity to incorporate some of that creepiness into a video. The imagery in the video represents the duality that resides within each of us. Like the makeup and colors in the video, we all have light and darkness within. Our darkness, or shadow sides are the repressed ideas, desires, weaknesses, insecurities, and short comings that we all have, but find hard to accept. The man in this video has struggled to come to terms with his own light and dark side and has now recognized he cannot continue to be dragged down by a partner who is unwilling to do the same. Ultimately It is only in recognizing our shadows that we can take away their power over us,” says Bobby Amaru, vocalist of the band.

“Crows” can be streamed/downloaded HERE

Saliva will continue to release tracks and ultimately a full album. The new music has a contemporary feel but sticks to the blue collar roots that their fans love.

After acquiring front man Bobby Amaru in 2011, Saliva became infused with new blood, energy, and spirit. The same energy launched Saliva’s career in 2001 with the release, _Every Six Seconds – a certified Double Platinum-selling album, containing the hits, “Click Click Boom” and 2002 Grammy nominated, “Your Disease.” Saliva’s in-your-face, anthemic writing style continued with a certified Gold-selling album *Back in to Your System_ with hits: “Always,” “Raise Up,” and the Nikki Sixx co-written, “Rest In Pieces.”*

Upon adding former Shinedown and Fuel bassist, Brad Stewart, as a permanent member, Saliva solidified their new lineup consisting of: Wayne Swinny, Paul Crosby, and Amaru.

WALTER TROUT Releases Video for Latest Single ‘Waiting For The Dawn’

On his latest single “Waiting For The Dawn,” released earlier this Summer via Provogue/Mascot Label Group, the iconic blues-rock guitarist WALTER TROUT urges fans – and himself – to stay strong, in light of all of the challenges we’ve faced over the past few years. “There were times in this pandemic where I have sunk into some pretty deep depressions, sitting around, wondering whether life has a point,” Trout recalls. It’s the latest single from Trout’s new studio album ‘Ride,’ out August 19th. Written in his now-deserted home in Huntington, Beach, California, the album is filled with pointed reflections from Trout, informed by his decades of stardom in the blues world.

Watch below the video for ‘Waiting For The Dawn’.

As long-standing Trout fans know, the Golden State has been the bluesman’s home for 47 years. Trout joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers lineup in ’85, before embarking on an acclaimed solo career from ’89 onwards. But before that came his chaotic, self-destructive years as a jobbing lead guitarist, whether for revered-but-tricky blues pioneers like John Lee Hooker and Big Mama Thornton, or an unhinged tenure in Canned Heat.

Trout’s well-documented excess in this era was darker than a young rock star cutting loose. It could all be traced back to his troubled childhood in New Jersey, he explains, where an unstable stepfather – himself the victim of shocking cruelty as a prisoner of war – was a terrifying presence. As ‘Ride’ took form, such memories couldn’t help but flavor the music. “This album is obviously what I was going through mentally and emotionally,” he considers. “All I did was express it. I spent a lot of time crying, because I would dig down into my emotional core. I want my songs to have some sort of truth to them.”

Some memories that Trout examines on ‘Ride’ are long-distant but eternally poignant. Try the deceptively upbeat title track, another song that began as a poem, recounting the locomotive that rattled past his childhood home each night and enticed him to freight-hop to freedom. “That song is about what it felt like to lay there in bed and dream about escaping on that train.”

The stormy “Hey Mama” takes inspiration from the same period, with Trout debating whether his trauma could have been averted. “I’m not pissed off with my mom and I love her memory,” he says, “but my wife says, ‘Your mom probably could have done more to protect you from your stepdad’. Yeah, maybe she could have. But it’s easy to say that looking back.”

Walter Trout is the beating heart of the modern blues rock scene. Respected by the old guard. Revered by the young guns. Adored by the fans who shake his hand after the show each night, and after five decades in the game, Trout remains a talismanic figure.

But, however fast or far a man travels, he can never truly outrun his past. On the new album he found himself eyeing the horizon and the green shoots of his triumphant late career. There was a new record deal with Mascot/Provogue. A move from California to Denmark with his beloved family. Even now, aged 70, Trout was still writing fresh chapters of his life story.

By now, Trout knows that nobody ever really leaves their old selves behind. But with ‘Ride’ providing an emotional release-valve – both for its creator and his loyal listeners – perhaps this veteran artist can reconcile with his past, accept his future and live in the present as it unfolds. “I think you can interpret this album title a few different ways,” he concludes. “I mean, this album is definitely a musical ride and I certainly tried to cover a lot of ground. But, really, life is kind of a ride too, isn’t it? And I want to live mine to the fullest.”

Underground warriors, extreme metal contenders COURT ORDER not only survived the last two years, but thrived in their isolation. The same aggression and spirit that launched the band’s self-titled EP in 2020, delivers another collection of impossibly tense metallic hardcore, throwing down ten slabs of monstrous anthems on their first full-length album, “Kingdom Gone” which was released on August 12th, 2022.

Court Order’s Ace Rubina comments:

“Kingdom Gone” is a record about the disgusting reality of the piss poor state of mental health in society and its effect on our friends and family. It’s unfortunate we wrote an entire album about it, and when I was putting these lyrics together I didn’t even notice it was the theme of the whole record until I was working to design the booklet and recognized the consistent presence of it in every track. It was a two year journey putting this thing together and during that time one of my closest friends killed himself. He never got to hear it. This album is about all the ugliness, darkness and anger in the world and its impact on everything around us.”
