Following the release of their debut EP, ‘Effigies of Time’, AMBRIUS have revealed a new video for the track ‘Breathe’.

‘Breathe’ is laid bare to remind anyone who hears it going through hard times to stay strong. The song’s lyrics are inspired from the perspective of someone whose country has been invaded, causing everything they cherished to be taken away or destroyed for others gain and greed. Ambrius delivers important reflection and observation with clarity in what are unimaginable times for so many.

The new track is an example of the fierce and cathartic nature of what is one of the most impressive metal underground debuts this year. While Ambrius is most likely a new heavy metal band you’ve yet to discover, that is set to change with the group announced for Bloodstock’s New Blood stage this August.

Featuring former members of metal acts Oakhaart and Tempestora, the Gloucester metallic cohort has spent time honing lessons learnt and applied pure bloodied delivery to produce one of the best emerging metal debut EPs in 2022. BOA will be the perfect setting to introduce the collective tracks, in their entirety, to the Catton Park collective this summer.

Vocalist and producer Sam Shiers says, “BOA is hallowed ground for us, so being given the opportunity to play is absolutely amazing. Not only do we have the chance to play our debut EP ‘Effigies Of Time’ to an amazing audience and potentially make some new fans, but we also get to play alongside some of the biggest, best, new and underground bands that the UK/Worldwide has to offer. It’s fantastic to play a festival so closely linked to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, something of which we are all huge supporters of. This is an experience we will remember forever.”

For a band who have only just released their debut EP, this August will see Ambrius part of an astonishing Bloodstock bill that’s headed up by the likes of Behemoth, Mercyful Fate, Lamb of God, Testament, Dimmu Borgir, Jinjer, and a host of other incredible acts! Tickets for this event are available here.

Ambrius play BOA’s New Blood stage on Saturday 13th August. Their new EP ‘Effigies Of Time’ is out now.

LEE AARON Talks New Studio Album “Elevate” w/ 10 Tracks, Out Late 2022 / Spring 2023

Jimmy Kay from The Metal Voice recently spoke to legendary Canadian Icon Lee Aaron and guitarist Sean Kelly (Lee Aaron, Helix, Coney Hatch). The two spoke about the upcoming new studio album ‘Elevate’ and their upcoming show at the famous El Mocambo Club in Toronto.

Plus Lee Arron’s autobiography, new coffee blend ‘Bodyrock’ and the time she shared the stage with Iron Maiden Bruce Dickinson and Steve Harris at L’amours (Club) in New York.

Guitarist Sean Kelly Spoke about the writing process on the new album, “I am constantly pestering Lee with ideas because I think it’s the buzz that we are chasing at this point in our lives. The process of creation that comes out of friendship and sharing our influences getting in a room. That happened again with the new album ‘Elevate’ getting together in the room working with Mike Fraser ( record producer, engineer, and mixer) and Lee producing. We are just vibing off each other, it’s a special chemistry and it’s one that I appreciate more and more especially after Covid where we had to be separated and I am so grateful for it. “

Lee Aaron continued, “The new album Elevate is the Covid Baby.  ‘Radio On’ our last album came out in 2021 and we have just finished another studio album (Elevate). The new album springboards from where ‘Radio On’ left off (musically). ‘Radio On’ was written literally just before Covid hit and we recorded the bed tracks  and finished the album during Covid. ‘Elevate’ the new album was created during Covid too. It was the process of sending files back and forth. So the vibe is a little more different, even a little more structured but well thought out. I think it takes ‘Radio On’ to a whole other level. I also think we dove into a little more pseudo political territory with some of the lyrics. We are all growing up in this bizarre age and there are so many weird things going on in our world right now and that was reflected on the material from the new album. We are hoping to release the new album pre Christmas but if it doesn’t work out because of the timeline it will probably be the spring of next year. There will be ten songs but we recorded 14. A couple of the songs are long. My husband explained to me that vinyl sounds best under 45 minutes long so I had to come up with running order that was 45 minutes long, so we ended up shaving it to about 10 tracks. Now we have extra tracks left but I am not sure what we are going to do with them yet but they will come out on something in the future.”

Lee Aaron  had several hits in the 1980s and early 1990s, such as “Metal Queen”, “Whatcha Do to My Body”, and “Sex with Love”. Her last album ‘Radio On’ was released in 2021. She won three Toronto Music Awards for Best Female Vocalist and received ten Juno nominations.

Acclaimed heavy groove metal pioneers DEVILDRIVER are ready to usher in a new era of the band’s venerable history. Today, the group is excited to welcome back original bassist Jon Miller after more than a decade’s long absence from the scene! In addition to this epic reunion, DEVILDRIVER has also added guitarist Alex Lee (Holy Grail) to the lineup, replacing Neal Tiemann.

DEVILDRIVER is also gearing up to head out on tour this fall, with more information coming very soon!

Remarking on his return to the band, Miller comments:
“After spending the past 10 years away from writing music, recording, and touring, I have made the decision to return to DEVILDRIVER to settle some unfinished business with two lifelong friends.”

Frontman Dez Fafara comments on Miller’s return to the lineup, sharing:
“Jon is a monster on bass and wrote much of our early material. We began talking daily and it just felt right… and having him onstage again will be absolutely pummeling technically and visually! For the fans that have seen the band with Jon in it, please welcome him back. And for those of you who haven’t, get ready because he holds it down! Having most of the OG members in the band now after almost 20 years feels good!

“Get ready because we have a massive tour announcement coming in August! It’s been since July 2019 that we’ve toured, and the break was needed. The fire is there now and we are ready to destroy stages!”

Lead guitarist Mike Spreitzer adds:
“It’s been a solid decade since I’ve shared the stage with Jon Miller, and I’m thrilled to have him back in DEVILDRIVER. Without him, I probably wouldn’t be in the band. He was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Santa Barbara in 1999 that eventually lead to me joining DEVILDRIVER. I’m very much looking forward to getting out on the road and having him with us again.”

Speaking on the departure of former bassist Diego ‘Ashes’ Ibarra, the members share:
Dez:
“It’s always difficult letting guys go in any line of work, but we thank Ashes for his time playing with DEVILDRIVER on tour. I’m sad I had to let him go, but to make way for an original member was the right thing to do. We wish him the best and he’s a great guy.”

Mike:“Ashes has been an amazing addition to the DEVILDRIVER family over the years. He’s one of the most solid and fun guys I have ever had the honor to call my friend. I’m going to miss our 3-4 hour long morning coffee sessions that we shared since he joined. He will forever be my brother.”

Along with the return of Miller, DEVILDRIVER welcomes Alex Lee, who many will know from his time in the band Holy Grail!

Speaking on his past encounters and shared comradery with the DEVILDRIVER family, Lee shares:
“Back in 2016, I had the privilege of touring with DEVILDRIVER with my old band (Holy Grail). We got along great and kept in touch over the years. Fast forward to the present, I am thrilled to announce that I’ll be joining the DEVILDRIVER family! Dez made the final call to give me this opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. Great guys, heavy music, and I can’t wait to see you all on the road!”

Dez comments on Lee’s addition, saying:
“Alex is a bad ass on guitar and one of the most talented guys I’ve seen in years. He gets along well with the band, he’s a great writer, and onstage he brings the energy. We welcome him and look forward to years of good times.”

The latest album from DEVILDRIVER, Dealing With Demons I, was released via Napalm Records on October 2, 2020 to massive fan and critical acclaim, debuting at #4 on the US Current Hard Music Albums Chart alongside outlets like Blabbermouth stating, “…Dez Fafara keeps defying the odds and making face-removing metal records that, at their cudgeling best, really hurt. If the second half of this mammoth endeavor matches the first, this will be remembered as a pivotal moment in the DEVILDRIVER story.” Order your copy HERE.

SOULS OF DIOTIMA Release “Janas” Album First Time on Vinyl

Italian female fronted metallers SOULS OF DIOTIMA released their fourth album “Janas” on 29th January 2021 via Diotima Records / Rockshots Records and entirely produced by Oscar Nilsson at Crehate Studios in Mölndal (Sweden). The album will be available for the first time on vinyl from 29th July 2022 both on the Rockshots Records website and on the store of the band.

The album “Janas” is a concept, the second chapter of a journey that began with the previous album, “The Sorceress Reveals – Atlantis”. “Janas” tells the stories and legends of band’s land, Sardinia. Their island is full of wonderful mythological tales and characters, of esoteric stories that are often macabre, but which portray a truly fascinating historical and cultural journey.

“We have a shared interest in the history and culture of the peoples of the sea, of the Mediterranean, and we are one of them. Much of Western history is rooted in the tales of the peoples of the sea, skilled conquerors who crossed the seas to conquer new lands or to defend their own. But there is more. Within Sardinia there are places that often remain undiscovered. Far from the more accessible touristic locations, these places are steeped in stories both true and fictitious, which we were often told during our childhood, and which probably formed the basis of our personality and the way we see the world. In brief, ‘Janas’ talks about these stories, about us, and about the Earth we have been walking on since we were born”, enthuses the drummer Giorgio Pinna.

“Janas” track list:

  1. The Black Mask
  2. Sleep Demon
  3. The Princess of Navarra
  4. Janas
  5. The Dark Lady
  6. Ichnos Superhero
  7. My Roots

Four years in the making, the Billboard-charting trio that is Revocation – Dave Davidson (vocals/guitars), Ash Pearson (drums), and Brett Bamberger (bass) – meticulously explore the allegorical and literal aspects of Hell as they dig deeper into the darker, more diabolical side of death metal. In short, where the previous album, The Outer Ones (2018), jettison Revocation into the horrific maw of the cosmos, Netherheaven bores deftly through the nine rings of Hell to directly confront Lucifer and his multitudinous faces. “We’re definitely in more of a death metal mindset than on earlier albums in our catalog,” asserts Davidson. “We’re focusing on how we can write the best death metal-centric album that we possibly can while still pushing our boundaries. The new songs on ‘Netherheaven’ are evil and sinister but also have a progressive element to them to keep things interesting. It’s got our stamp on it, no question.“

Album artwork by: Paolo Girardi (Firespawn, Power Trip)

Netherheaven was written during downtime after the album cycle for The Outer Ones was complete. The album’s nine tracks were written solely by Davidson, who spent his time between genuflecting at the altars of Luc Lemay (Gorguts), Chuck Schuldiner (Death), Marty Friedman (Megadeth), and celebrated jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Between writing killer riffs and absolutely wild solos, the seven-stringer also practiced (technique), studied (theory), and taught guitar. Revocation truly changed gears when Davidson picked up audio engineering (with Apple’s Logic Pro) to use the pandemic-era lockdowns effectively. It made perfect sense for him to helm the engineer and producer’s chair at his newly-built HeatWave Studios for Netherheaven. Revocation then sourced Swedish studio ace Jens Bogren (Opeth, Kreator) to mix and master at Fascination Street Studios.

“We put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the album,” says Davidson. “We want people to be inspired. It’s brutal. We brought our A-game on ‘Netherheaven’.“

Netherheaven track-listing
1. Diabolical Majesty
2. Lessons in Occult Theft
3. Nihilistic Violence
4. Strange and Eternal
5. Galleries of Morbid Artistry
6. The 9th Chasm
7. Godforsaken
8. The Intervening Abyss of Untold Aeons
9. Re-Crucified [feat. Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) and George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher (Cannibal Corpse)]
