For 37 years, KREATOR has spear-headed a thrash metal crusade, inspiring generations of metal heads and musicians alike. Gianmaria Puledda: Joins SPREAD EAGLE as Live Guitarist

It took a hard-fought audition to do it, but the Italian award-winning guitarist Gianmaria Puledda, known professionally as “Jommy”, has found his new home with the dynamic New York City based street metal band SPREAD EAGLE. Jommy will be playing favorites such as “Switchblade Serenade” and “Scratch Like a Cat” on Spread Eagle’s upcoming tour.

Jommy is renowned throughout Europe’s heavy metal / hard rock community. One of his unique talents is the ability to play the Greek bouzouki, which led him to the creation of a particular style defined by some as “Mediterranean Metal”.

Spread Eagle launched their guitarist open audition in March 2022 with an invitation by Spread Eagle bassist Rob De Luca to submit videos performing Spread Eagle songs. The band narrowed down the contestant pool to Jommy and ten other venerable guitarists, whose performances were posted online for public comments.  

Jommy advanced to the group of two finalists and was named first choice after an audition in New York City. He was chosen as the winner, due to his “superior technique, tone, groove and image”.

Throughout his career, Jommy has performed in major live concerts and tours, opening for Vision Divine (with Fabio Lione), Saurom and headlining many other shows. As a highly in-demand lead guitarist, Jommy has collaborated and toured with renowned heavy metal acts in Europe, among them Screaming Shadows from Italian maestro Francesco Marras, also guitarist of Tygers Of Pan Tang.

Spread Eagle is certainly no new name in hard and heavy music, releasing two major albums with MCA / Universal Records, “Spread Eagle” (1990) and “Open To The Public” (1993) and also “Subway To The Stars” in 2019, released via Frontiers Music SRL.
The live line-up features founding members Ray West on lead vocals and Rob De Luca on bass, (UFO, Sebastian Bach, George Lynch), and Rik De Luca on drums. The band have several upcoming US shows, the dates can be seen below.

Former Megadeth Guitarist Chris Poland: “I haven’t spoken to Dave Mustaine not since the ‘The System has Failed'”

For The Metal Voice Former Anthrax singer  Neil Turbin does an in-depth interview with ex Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland. Poland talks about the early days in Megadeth, his time after the band and working on new projects today. Watch the interview below.

When asked about the recording budget on Megdaeth’s first album and where the money really went 
“First of all when we got any money it was in Dave’s (Mustaine) account, we got a per diem, we got 100 bucks a week. This myth that the first record was spent on drugs is bullshit. We only had about $6000 or $8000 to make a record and we made it in a couple of weeks and drugs aren’t that expensive. We weren’t even that far gone then. Also if it wasn’t for Cliff Culteri I wouldn’t have gotten solos on the first record. He asked Dave (Mustiane) to give me solos because I wasn’t going to get a bunch of solos. I thank Cliff for that, Rest in Peace. Even Peace sells I think our budget was $26,000 but we were in really nice studios, we still had our $200 a week that we lived on.”

When asked about his time after Megadeth 
“I was bussing tables from midnight to 10am at Denny’s after I left Megadeth. I would be bussing tables on a weekend and some guy would go, dude your Chris Poland (Chris laughs) and I would have to go yeah I am. It is so weird because he just looked at me like what the Fu*k are you doing here? I would just say hey man I got to eat, I got to pay the rent. When you think about it today it is pretty crazy because Megadeth was beyond gold, Peace Sells was really like a train and here I am bussing tables in the middle of the night at Denny’s. (laughs)”

When asked if he made the right decision in leaving Megadeth
“It was just meant to be, it got to the point where, it was time, it wasn’t working for anybody anymore so. Who knows what would have happened if I stayed in the band. It was probably best that I didn’t.”

When asked about the relationship with Dave Mustaine today
“I haven’t spoken to Dave not since the ‘The System has Failed’ (2004)

When asked if he would ever consider going back to Megadeth
“I don’t think so. If Dave did a solo thing maybe but I don’t want to learn all those Megadeth songs (laughs). 

When asked about the new David Ellefson and Jeff Young new collaboration and if they reached out to him
” I am doing a thing with those guys in November 2022 in Chicago.”

AVATARIUM Announce “Death, Where Is Your Sting” Album & Share First Single ‘God Is Silent’

Following their recent signing with AFM Records, Swedish doom rock heavyweights AVATARIUM have announced the release of their upcoming, fifth studio album. Death, Where Is Your Sting, will be out on October 21, 2022.

The chart-breaking band was formed in 2012 by Candlemass mastermind Leif Edling, and released 2 EPs, four critically acclaimed full-length records and their epic live DVD, An Evening With Avatarium – Live in Stockholm January 2020, to date. The current line-up is featuring vocalist Jennie-Ann Smith, Marcus Jidell (Evergrey, Soen), Mats Rydström, Andreas Habo Johansson and Daniel Karlsson. Death, Where Is Your Sting was produced by Marcus Jidell, mixed by Mats Valentin and Jidell, and was mastered by Svante Forsbäck.

Today, AVATARIUM have premiered a first track taken of Death, Where Is Your Sting. Listen to the epic new single, “God Is Silent”, now streaming at THIS LOCATION!

POWERWOLF Release Official Live Video for ‘Glaubenskraft’

One of only three songs with German lyrics in POWERWOLF’s discography is “Glaubenskraft”. Celebrating its “live” premiere via the cinematic streaming event THE MONUMENTAL MASS – A CINEMATIC METAL EVENT, the song proves to be a real highlight in the live set of the band, ready to be unleashed to the masses at one of POWERWOLF’s massive tours or festival headline shows this year. PADDY AND THE RATS Release Cinematic New Official Video for ‘Matadora’

PADDY AND THE RATS have unleashed the fourth single, “Matadora”, from their recently released new album, From Wasteland To Wonderland! It comes along with a wild new video portraying the dangerous life of a kingpin and his beautiful Matadora – a classic story of greed and betrayal. Sound-wise, “Matadora” delivers the finest Balkan style vibes to get you moving, with additional instruments like Mariachi-style trumpets and brass adding to the song’s Spanish flair. “Matadora” is the sort of song you can’t help but tap your foot to. Be prepared for a twisted adventure!

Paddy comments on the video:
„We really like gangster movies of Scorsese, Tarantino or Guy Richie and for a long time we wanted to shoot a video like these movies. ‚Matadora‘ has a spanish and a mariachi influence so thats why we had the idea to play this Pablo Escobar-stylish columbian druglord charachter.
It was really fun to shoot this video because all of us this a ‘70s, ‘80s look with the funny moustaches and clothes and of course it was fun because of the two beautiful girls who had an important role in the video.“ 

With their six full-length, PADDY AND THE RATS serve a top-notch pirate party fueled by a heavy dose of Punk, Polka and Folk, turning the world into a giant pub! This Irish influenced sound will assuredly bring up the urge to slam down a cold one while swinging happily along arm in arm to the beat! Formed in 2008 by singer and songwriter Paddy, the untamed unit have built a respective name within the scene due to hard work and extensive touring all over Europe – with more than 400 shows including at the world famous Wacken Open Air and the Sziget Festival. For the new album, they teamed up once again with producer Zoli Baker. The artwork was designed by Jill Colbert, who has also worked with bands like Alestorm, Exodus and Wintersun.

On a rousing 13 tracks, the Hungarians magically pull one stirring song after another out of their pirate hats, featuring a great variation of instruments like accordion, fiddle, banjo and bagpipe. The Celtic punks sail off on exciting adventures with their opener “Wasteland”, offering a longing duo of mandolin and vocals accompanied by violin injections. The spirit is incited with “Ship Will Sale”: The rousing track hits like a wild wave and invites the listener to join the party, swaying and stomping with them. The full-length pushes forward with “Party like a Pirate”, where they delight their shipmates with an eager party hit, that comes with a sweeping sing-along chorus. “Everybody Get Up” offers another power boost and slowly prepares for the end of the adventure, with its punkier, energetic sound. The last stop of the journey with the Celtic Punks is “Wonderland”. This emotional ballad provides the perfect note on which to end the album. With From Wasteland to Wonderland, PADDY AND THE RATS deliver a seaworthy adventure that fills the listener with addictive energy and simple happiness.
