WALTER TROUT Releases New Single ‘Waiting For The Dawn’

On his latest single “Waiting For The Dawn,” released today via Provogue/Mascot Label Group, the iconic blues-rock guitarist WALTER TROUT urges fans – and himself – to stay strong, in light of all of the challenges we’ve faced over the past few years. “There were times in this pandemic where I have sunk into some pretty deep depressions, sitting around, wondering whether life has a point,” Trout recalls. It’s the latest single from Trout’s new studio album ‘Ride,’ out August 19th. Written in his beloved and often-missed home in Huntington Beach, California, the album is filled with pointed reflections from Trout, informed by his decades of stardom in the blues world.

Destiny

As long-standing Trout fans know, the Golden State has been the bluesman’s home for 47 years. Trout joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers lineup in ’85, before embarking on an acclaimed solo career from ’89 onwards. But before that came his chaotic, self-destructive years as a jobbing lead guitarist, whether for revered-but-tricky blues pioneers like John Lee Hooker and Big Mama Thornton, or an unhinged tenure in an ’80s Canned Heat line-up controlled by the Hell’s Angels.

Trout’s well-documented excess in this era was darker than a young rock star cutting loose. It could all be traced back to his troubled childhood in New Jersey, he explains, where an unstable stepfather – himself the victim of shocking cruelty as a prisoner of war – was a terrifying presence. As ‘Ride’ took form, such memories couldn’t help but flavor the music. “This album is obviously what I was going through mentally and emotionally,” he considers. “All I did was express it. I spent a lot of time crying, because I would dig down into my emotional core. I want my songs to have some sort of truth to them.”

Some memories that Trout examines on ‘Ride’ are long-distant but eternally poignant. Try the deceptively upbeat title track, another song that began as a poem, recounting the locomotive that rattled past his childhood home each night and enticed him to freight-hop to freedom. “That song is about what it felt like to lay there in bed and dream about escaping on that train.  I also wanted to express that music has always been another sort of virtual escape for me.”

The stormy “Hey Mama” takes inspiration from the same period, with Trout debating whether his trauma could have been averted. “I’m not pissed off with my mom and I love her memory,” he says, “but my wife says, ‘Your mom probably could have done more to protect you from your stepdad’. Yeah, maybe she could have. But it’s easy to say that looking back.”

Walter Trout is the beating heart of the modern blues rock scene. Respected by the old guard. Revered by the young guns. Adored by the fans who shake his hand after the show each night, and after five decades in the game, Trout remains a talismanic figure.

But, however fast or far a man travels, he can never truly outrun his past. On the new album he found himself eyeing the horizon and the green shoots of his triumphant late career. There was a new record deal with Mascot/Provogue. A temporary move from California to Denmark to be with his beloved family. Even now, aged 70, Trout was still writing fresh chapters of his life story.

By now, Trout knows that nobody ever really leaves their old selves behind. But with ‘Ride’ providing an emotional release-valve – both for its creator and his loyal listeners – perhaps this veteran artist can reconcile with his past, accept his future and live in the present as it unfolds. “I think you can interpret this album title a few different ways,” he concludes. “I mean, this album is definitely a musical ride and I certainly tried to cover a lot of ground. But, really, life is kind of a ride too, isn’t it? And I want to live mine to the fullest.”

All-Star Project FIGURE OF SPEECHLESS Announce Full-Length Album “Tunnel At The End Of The Light”, Out September 2nd, Release First Single

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: FIGURE OF SPEECHLESS. Leave a comment

After months, nay years of separation, solitude and hermitage, the desire to unite, cheer and get together seems to be ubiquitous – not only amongst us music fans, who have been longing for shows and festivals to start again, but also for those people who bring us so much joy and the bangers our starved hearts and heads desire: the musicians themselves.

Glen McMaster, a versatile songwriter and guitar player, took these wishes to the next level by writing and producing songs for what is already turning out to be one of the most promising allstar-projects in recent metal history: Besides Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Idol), who joined the writing process in early 2021, FIGURE OF SPEECHLESS consists of high-profile names such as Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses, Sons of Apollo), Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Redemption), Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Billy Idol, Foreigner, Ozzy Osbourne).

Figure Of Speechless’ first single “Day and Night” is available now on all streaming platforms via SAOL, the accompanying music video is live on YouTube. But they won’t just stick together for one song – a full-length album titled “Tunnel At The End Of The Light” is coming on September 2nd 2022, please find the pre-save of your choice here.

Songwriter Glen McMaster himself describes the first single of the album as follows:
“Although ‘Day and Night’ was one of the last songs to come off the production line, it is a combination of sections from the very first song I wrote for this album, and some jazz guitar chord progressions I came up with when I was much younger. When writing this song, I had a Victorian London sort of vibe in mind and originally wanted to write lyrics about Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but eventually I settled on writing about ‘Chance’, the fickleness of fortune and wealth, and the ephemeral nature of life. Representing ‘Day’, the first half of the song is quite melodic, and then the second half ‘Night’ becomes much darker and more sinister.”

Listeners can expect an equal amount of variety throughout the whole 11-track effort. And while curating the allstar-piece, McMaster fulfilled a need many have been feeling after months and months of isolation: to bring people from all over the world together to cherish the beauty of art and music. Glen McMaster, the man behind the concept, describes the collective’s sound as an “infusion of five decades of progressive music” – all emerging into a powerhouse of nostalgia and influences from across music history. Listening closely, fans will discover musical elements from unexpected time depths and traditions ranging from Beethoven and Django Reinhardt to Rush and Dream Theater. The credo of unity doesn’t stop at the project’s members – this thing has the power to reach far beyond, and will without a doubt land the top lists of the year.

Just recently, Polish death metal legends VADER performed at Mystic Festival in Gdańsk, Poland. Watch the drum cam footage where their new drummer Michal (Michael) Andrzejczyk is performing “Reborn In Flames” from the album “De Profundis”. Sound directly from the camera (GoPro Hero 7 Black).

Enjoy it here:

VADER Frontman Peter shared:
“VADERMANIAX !!! Please, let me officially introduce Vader’s new „nuclear engine” , our new drummer Michal (Michael) Andrzejczyk, who joined the band this year in February at the show in Wroclaw on „Awakening of the Tyrants Tour”. Michael replaced James Stewart drumming in Vader for last decade. Both drummers were working pretty intense together quite long time before to make a change smooth and well. Michal is a young but already experienced drummer playing in such hordes like Insidius or Varmia before. Few words from Michał himself below:
„I am Vader Fan since I remember. This music had huge influence on me as a drummer. With goose skin I was listening the albums and a Vader show was my very first real one I was watching. After that event I decided to play Death Metal. To be a part of it now is a dreaming came true indeed. It’s a real honor to me to continue after so great drummers, wha were inspiring me as a drummer. It
means much work for me but I won’t disappoint Fans for sure.”

LOST SOCIETY Release Video for New Single ‘Stitches’

Finnish modern metal squad LOST SOCIETY recently shook the scene upside down with “112”, the first single of their upcoming album “If The Sky Came Down”, which is going to be released on September 30th via Nuclear Blast Records.

With “Stitches” the band delivers a heavy pounding anthem for any modern metalhead out there, while addressing serious mental health issues.

Frontman Samy Elbanna about the song:
“Chapter 5 continues, and we’re heading deeper inside the human mind.
Stitches talks about something that is more than familiar for so many people. The fact that no matter how hard you try to mask your traumas and past scars, they always find a way of haunting you until you come head to head with them all.
Sometime’s you just have to pull out your stitches and let all the blood and hurt come out, before you can finally start healing.”

He continues about the video:
“Vita Pictura has once again delivered a true masterpiece. Once again the intensity and true anguish of the track get an incredible visual representation, and the viewers will definitely feel what this song is all about. The video has us in scenes of near insanity, but also in our most free state. Just as the lyric, we feel trapped by our past, until we rip off the last remaining stitches to let it all out and realise we’re not alone.”

ANTHRAX Drop Second Live Track ‘The Devil You Know’

Today, ANTHRAX releases ‘The Devil You Know’ live, the second “early taste” single/music video from the band’s 40th anniversary livestream concert, ‘XL’. The release will be available in the UK/Europe digitally on July 15th (Nuclear Blast), followed by a Blu-Ray release (inc. 2CD + 1Blu-Ray) on July 22nd. It will be available in North America on Blu-Ray/CD/Digital on July 15th (Megaforce).

Pre-order ‘XL’ here: https://geni.us/anthraxxl

Stream/purchase ‘The Devil You Know’ live here: https://geni.us/anthraxtdyk

‘The Devil You Know’ was the first official single released from the band’s highly-acclaimed 2011 album, Worship Music, and was a stand-out track with the media. Rolling Stone referred to it as  “…a relentlessly heavy number…as aggressive and punishing as you would expect from the band, but with a touch of old school AC/DC swagger thrown in for good measure,” while Loudwire wrote that it was “addictive and propulsive…Scott unleashes what might be the riff of the year.”

ANTHRAX celebrated their 40th anniversary last year, on July 18th 2021, but due to Covid had to cancel their global touring plans, scheduled for the band to celebrate its milestone with their fans all around the world. While the band are about six months into their 41st year, the band – Joey Belladonna, Scott Ian, Frank Bello, Charlie Benante, and guitarist Jon Donais are due to finally head out on that global anniversary tour. In late July, ANTHRAX will kick off their 26-date co-headline North American tour with Black Label Society, joined by Hatebreed. They will then head to the UK and Europe in late September to headline a five-week run with MUNICIPAL WASTE. Tickets and VIP packages can be purchased at anthrax.com.
