NERGARD Announce One-Off Concert in Kalvåa Amphitheatre

It’s been 4 years since they last stood on stage, but symphonic metal band NERGARD are now back, announcing a one-off concert which will take place in the beautiful Kalvåa Amphitheatre in Selbu on Sunday the 28th of August 2022.

This will be the first time performing live since announcing their new steady lineup of vocalists. The magnificent symphonic soundscape is now fronted by a unique trio consisting of the charismatic English singer Stefani Keogh, the Swedish multi-talented Andi Kravljaca and Norway’s answer to Rob Halford; Mathias Molund Indergård.

The concert will see composer Andreas Nergård move out from behind the drums to bass guitar, whilst Runar Grimstad (Strandhugg) takes over drumming duties and Magnus Johansen (Withem) completes the lineup on keyboards.

The concert will feature an array of songs from Nergard’s early albums; “A Bit Closer to Heaven” and “Memorial for a Wish” as well as several tracks from their 2021 release “Eternal White”.

As this is their only 2022 performance it is set to be a magical event taking place in the depths of a dark, Norwegian forest ,where two years of covid frustration will be blown to heaven in a two-hour-long spectacle complete with pyrotechnics.

Nergard creator Andreas says, “I am really excited to show off Nergard’s live performance capabilities. Whilst we have always stayed under the umbrella of being a “studio project”, with only a handful of live shows to date, many of these songs really deserve to shine on stage. We are hungrier than ever and can’t wait to bring to life the biggest live production we have ever undertaken!”

This amazing one-off show will be filmed for a later DVD release and will include performances of “On Through the Storm”, “From the Cradle to the Grave”, “Under Fire”, and will see the new era of Nergard come together to deliver a night to remember.

The Kalvåa Outdoor Arena is situated in Selbu, just south of Trondheim Airport.

Tickets are already on sale and are in limited numbers.

BIRTH to Release Debut LP “Born” on July 15th

Southern California psychedelic/progressive rock unit, BIRTH, will release its full-length debut LP, ‘Born‘, on July 15 via UK rock label Bad Omen Records (Wytch Hazel, Spell, Satan’s Satyrs). Featuring members of San Diego’s revered retro rockers Astra, along with current or former members of Joy, Radio Moscow, and Sacri Monti, Birth owns a cavernous cache of credibility rarely found in developing musical groups. Described as “a magic-eye journey into kaleidoscopic sound“, and “a dystopian take on the here and now“, ‘Born‘ is available for pre-order purchase at: birthprog.bandcamp.com

A first listen to what Birth‘s ‘Born‘ holds in store can be experienced now as the band is streaming its new song “For Yesterday”. Hear it now at: birthprog.bandcamp.com

Featuring guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Conor Riley and lead guitarist Brian Ellis, musicians who burst onto the prog-psych scene in the late aughts with Astra, a formidable, foundational group hailed as “prog goliaths” (AllMusic), who would shape the sound of things to come alongside co-conspirators such as Earthless, Diagonal and Dungen, and whose albums ‘The Weirding‘ (2009) and ‘The Black Chord‘ (2012) stand proud as two of the greatest progressive achievements of this century thus far, there is a palatable excitement surrounding Birth and the group has been pegged as one to watch in underground circles, an excitement which kicked into a new gear once a now-deleted demo ep was unleashed, on a pay-what-you-will basis, on the Bandcamp platform in 2021, which marked the spark of creation for the Birth universe and delivered a blast of vibrant progressive rock rich in cinematic scope and psychedelic intensity and laid the groundwork for what was to come.

“Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world” . So wrote Mary Shelley in Frankenstein, arguably the first science fiction tale. A full 204 years later, the quest remains – how best to elucidate our daily lives with some form of inspiration that moves the spirit beyond its earthly shackles?

On ‘Born‘, Birth musically and creatively constructs a science-fiction-inspired sound-world in which bleak tumult and skybound rapture co-exist. The result is an intoxicating album haunted by earthly concerns while its sonics aim simultaneously for the stars. “I’m a scientist by trade and I read a lot of dystopian sci-fi, which I believe is relevant to many of the events that have been occurring lately,” notes Riley. “These views feed a dark, spiritual and mystical relationship that I have with scientific thought“.

Track listing:
01. Born
02. Descending Us
03. For Yesterday
04. Cosmic Tears
05. Another Time
06. Long Way Down

Birth features Conor Riley (vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar), Brian Ellis (lead guitar, keyboards), Trevor Mast (bass), and Thomas DiBenedetto (drums). Drums on ‘Born‘ performed by Paul Marrone.

DEAD CITY RUINS Announce “Shockwave” Album & Premiere Music Video For New Single ‘Speed Machine’

Following their much acclaimed, third album Never Say Die (2018), Melbourne-based hard rock act DEAD CITY RUINS has announced the first hotly anticipated details about their forthcoming record!  Shockwave will be released on August 19, 2022 with AFM Records. Today, the band has shared a music video for second single, “Speed Machine”.

Formed in 2012, the Australians sold their belongings and went all-in when it comes to rock ’n’ roll. Tirelessly touring the planet, the band has managed to capture the hearts of its audience gig by gig – much like Rival Sons, Monster Truck, and similar trailblazers of their generation have. They also share a list of influences with these acts, namely Deep Purple, Guns N’ Roses, Zeppelin. Their goal: bring rock ’n’ roll back to the people!

Following the previously-released high voltage appetizer “Preacher”, which also marks the debut for new vocalist Steve Welsh, the band has just premiered a new song taken of their upcoming Shockwave! Before joining DEAD CITY RUINS, Welsh was mostly active on YouTube, where he dedicated himself to imitating a plethora of singers. There’s one clip of him singing the twelve songs from Alice In Chains’ “Dirt“ in twelve (!) different styles; ranging from James Hetfield to Ronnie James Dio.

“Steve is out there giving our typical sound a fresh new edge, which is pretty exciting“, guitarist Sean Blanchard muses. Welsh himself elaborates: “These guys have given me the warmest welcome; I couldn’t have wished for better bandmates. They took me in and let me be part of something they
had been building for such a long time, all the while giving me everything I need.“

Get the song on all digital platforms HERE!

“What began as a rough demo, quickly became one of our favourite tracks on the album. Speed Machine is written from the hearts of true Aussie rev-heads,” says Welsh. “You got the power, now it’s time to go FAST. Crank it up and spin the wheels, Speed Machine will put your pedal to the metal!!”

As the first single releases of Shockwave prove, DEAD CITY RUINS don’t just have a penchant for songwriting, but also arrangements and the right energy. There’s no doubt that these Australians absolutely LIVE Rock ’n’ Roll and Shockwave will open plenty of doors. At least that’s what Tommy Cain sees in the band’s future after the pandemic: „We want to tour as soon as we possibly can. When the world re-opens, we will be there to give the best Rock ’n’ Roll show that Europe has seen since the lockdown and you better believe it! The determination we have for our fans and music has never been so bold. The situation might have live music by the throat, but we will overcome it and live as we once rocked!”

Shockwave
was mixed by US-producer Gene Freeman aka Machine, who has already worked with the likes of Lamb Of God, Clutch, and Crobot. “That was a lot of fun,“ Blanchard reminisces. “We spent a full week doing pre-production. Once we had the demos down and knew where we wanted it to go, Machine picked everything apart and put it back together while keeping our ideas intact. There were a few intense moments, but when it comes to pushing the band and turning the songs into the best versions of themselves, no one does a better job.“

Slated for a release on August 19, 2022 via AFM Records, the pre-sale of Shockwave is now available at THIS LOCATION!
