NWOBHM heroes, SATAN, have released their sixth full length album Earth Infernal. The album has been lauded by press with Last Rites calling it “razor-sharp, intelligent, and passionate heavy metal of the highest order” and Angry Metal Guy exclaiming “[it] is the best metal I’ve heard thus far in 2022.” Listen and watch to hear what all the fuss is about with the video for track #9, “The Blood Ran Deep,” on YouTube below.
Earth Infernal track listing: 01. Ascendancy 02. Burning Portrait 03. Twelve Infernal Lords 04. Mercury’s Shadow 05. A Sorrow Unspent 06. Luciferic 07. From Second Sight 08. Poison Elegy 09. The Blood Ran Deep 10. Earth We Bequeath
Earth Infernal is a product of the times that birthed it, and could only be the work of SATAN. Having churned out cutting edge heavy metal throughout the 80s – and reunited in 2011 – their sixth full-length maintains the high standard they long ago set, and it is perhaps their timeliest release. “For two years the world has been preoccupied with politics and pandemics and while we were all looking the other way our planet has continued to get hotter,” says guitarist Russ Tippins. “Our Earth is now infernally hot. Almost irreversibly so. We are on a one-way trip to Hell and dragging our children along with us. Yes, SATAN has something to say about global warming.“
Over three years of development went into Earth Infernal, describing the record succinctly as ‘brutal, up tempo, loud guitars’, it is classic SATAN but sounds fresh and new, the band experimenting a little. “Steve (Ramsey, guitar) and I had been talking for a while about playing some of our dual leads in unison rather than in harmony – which is our normal method. And sure enough, the trusted twin harmonies are still in abundance on this record, but two of the songs have us playing lead in unison, like Rossington and Collins’ solo in “Free Bird.“
“I believe that our current writing and subject matter are only too relevant to what is going on in the world today,” concludes Tippins. With touring plans in the works, SATAN fans will get a chance to hear Earth Infernal live in the not-too-distant future, and perhaps more importantly SATAN will continue to spread the important message at the heart of the album.
Dark folk singer-songwriter THE DEVIL’S TRADE is now releasing a brand new live video for the track “Dreams for the Rot!” The video was shot during a live performance at the prestigious Roadburn Redux festival that took place in 2021 and celebrates the artist’s upcoming live performances, which are scheduled for April throughout Europe! The video can now be viewed at THIS LOCATION.
The full performance of the show will be released on all digital platforms on April 15, 2022.
Mastermind Dávid Makó comments on the video: “Roadburn Redux got me in a period when you could not really complain as everyone was hurt in a way and we all had to face the same or similar struggles and losses. It happened to be the lowest period of my life so far where dark and sad meant nothing anymore I just got completely empty and hopeless and finally I got to a point where I had to find professional support to be able to get up and move on. Roadburn Redux was one of the very few things that could give me a reason to try to act like everything was normal while inside I was completely dead. I am so grateful for this opportunity and so glad to be able to share this concert with you all! Keep on going!“
THE DEVIL’S TRADE is supporting their 2020 release, ‘The Call of the Iron Peak,’ which can be streamed, downloaded, and ordered HERE.

ALBUM TRACK BY TRACK
‘Into the Depths I Ride’ A fast-paced track with a complex riff in the verse and a catchy chorus section in contrast. Very synthesizer-driven, powerful and melodic.
‘Cast in Gold’ This song has a nostalgic Gothenburg influence, with very melodic guitars, synths that took days to complete and a rich bridge with vocals and a string quartet.
‘Our Last Eclipse’ The title track; deeply guitar oriented, eminently cold and slow-paced, making the listener feel as though they’re watching stars collide in outer space in slow motion. Highly technical solo section between the synthesizer and guitars.
‘Cerements’ The lyrics on this track are very sentimental; compelling the sadness we all have felt for departed ones. An expressive and fast solo section invites the listener to feel the emotions implied in the song.
‘Jotnar Magick’ This track pays homage to Norse Mythology, telling the tale of a Jotnar (giant) that lured a goddess into his clutches. It’s a powerful, fast and drum-oriented song that matches the rapid pace of the story being told. The contrasting rhythms at the end of the song symbolizes the death of the goddess.
‘Library of Tears’ The first single from the album, this song goes back to basics with the strong, in your face metal sound and haunting background effects, reminding the listener of the despair that comes with living on a dying planet.
‘Silent December’ Taking inspiration from the cult film ‘Blade Runner,’ this track starts off with an 80’s synth-wave vibe and eerie vocal passage. From a lyrical standpoint, the song talks us through a path of vengeance that finally comes to its fruition.
‘Memories’ This is a song about the experiences of people that are forced to leave their motherland to face the odds of the unknown in a different soil; an ode to all the outcasts, the broken yet the hopeful. For the first time in the album, this track features sections of layered shouting vocals, providing a sense of unity and symbolizing that despite the adversities, we are all walking this path together.
‘The Black Rainbow’ This track is down-tempo and melodic, starting with an acoustic guitar that emphasizes the emotion and message that the song conveys – the never-ending mystery of death, and what, if anything, comes next.
‘Peregrination’ Closing the album out with a statement, the band flew into this one all guns blazing and unleashed the power that Ancient Settlers has to offer. The end of the track changes pace, essentially rolling the credits on the journey this album has been.
ANCIENT SETTLERS were founded in 2020 by Carlos Chiesa-Estomba & Herman Riera (Ex- Haboryn), Rene González (Ex- Aesthesis), Emmy Reyes (Blackbeer, Ex- Gamalyel), and Antony Hämäläinen (Meridian Dawn, Ex- Nightrage & Armageddon), a group of musicians with more than fifteen-years of experience in the European and American metal circuit.
The band started their journey with the intention to explore the frontiers of modern melodic death metal, including catchy guitar riffs, the use of synths & keyboards, and a variety of different sounds and rhythms, trying to develop their own music personality.
From a lyrical point, the band gets inspired by the recent tragedies that affect the earth and human race. They try to spread their message over all those who want to listen.
Despite this, the band needed to modify their starting plans, due to the pandemic outbreak. They pushed ahead and in January of 2021, the band released their first digital single ‘Diamond Eyes’, along-side a limited edition 7″ vinyl. The following February, the band released their debut EP ‘Autumnus’. Both were recorded in Portugal, France, Spain and the USA, and requested the service of Daniel Cardoso (Anathema, Anneke Van Grisbergen) to mix & master the album, as well as Gus “Perkele” Sazes (Angra, Kamelot, Gus G, Firewind, Arch Enemy) to design the artworks.
In April 2021, Miguel Herrera joined the band as a full-time bass player. The band started to develop a live-session tour, including venues throughout Portugal, France and Spain.

Sognametal veterans VREID are now premiering their brand new cover of the Rolling Stones classic, ‘Paint it Black!’ The song, along with a music video that features videography from Håvard Nesbø and artwork from Kim Holm, can be heard at THIS LOCATION.
VREID comments:
“In 2020 we were invited by the Norwegian Nobel Peace Center and the Inferno Festival to choose and perform a cover song as a part of the “Songs that change the world” series. Unfortunately, this event was swiped off the earth by the plague that have pestered the world the last years. Nevertheless, we decided to continue this creative path started and recorded the song.
“When the song was recorded, we made video for it. We used our wizard brothers Håvard Nesbø and Kim Holm to create a homage to the crazy world of rock n´ roll. Håvard who produced our Wild North West movie produced the music video and Kim who did the artwork for our Solverv and Welcome Farewell albums did the art. The song we decided to interpret in our Vreid universe is the rock anthem Paint it Black by the The Rolling Stones. This one of the most important pioneer songs for rock n´ roll, and a blueprint from where this tree of heavy music culture has grown into a many headed beast for 7 decades now.
“This song and video are a celebration of the fantastic creativity that started in the 1960ies and have been developed by so many great artists and bands ever since. We have incorporated our humble respect to many of our leading stars in this video, and it was fascinating to see how naturally this song transformed into our own universe. Remember, It´s Only Rock n´ Roll.”

Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the UK underground. But not content with spawning an entire subgenre with early death/doom masterpiece „Gothic“ nor with conquering the metal mainstream with the balls-out power of 1995’s „Draconian Times“, they have subsequently traversed multiple genre boundaries with skill and grace, evolving through the pitch-black alt-rock mastery of ‘90s classics „One Second“ and „Host“ to the muscular but ornate grandeur of 2009’s „Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us“ and „Tragic Idol“ (2012), with the nonchalant finesse of grand masters. The band’s last two albums – „The Plague Within“ (2015) and „Medusa“ (2017) – saw a much celebrated return to brutal, old school thinking, via two crushing monoliths to slow-motion death and spiritual defeat. Consistently hailed as one of metal’s most charismatic live bands, PARADISE LOST arrive in this new decade as veterans, legends and revered figureheads for several generations of gloomy metalheads. In keeping with their unerring refusal to deliver the expected, 2020 brings one of the band’s most diverse and devastating creations to date.
