Danish rockers H.E.R.O. have released their third and most hard hitting album ‘Alternate Realities’, which has just charted as #2 on the international album chart in Japan. Simultaneously, the quartet shares a high energy music video for the album track ‘Monster’ – a duet with the charismatic Melissa Bonny, who is the lead singer in the Swiss symphonic metal band Ad Infinitum.

And stream the album HERE

H.E.R.O.’s front man Christoffer Stjerne has this to say in connection with the album release:

“It feels amazing to finally release an album that shows a harder and, at the same time, more vulnerable side of H.E.R.O. Especially after 2 years of Covid lockdowns. On a personal level, it has been a much needed healing process for me to tell my very personal and tragic story through the lyrics.”

And Melissa Bonny adds:

“H.E.R.O did an amazing job with this third album and I am really happy that they invited me to sing on “Monster”. This band is incredibly talented and I hope that people will enjoy “Monster” as well as the album “Alternate Realities”!”

One can experience H.E.R.O. and the songs from ‘Alternate Realities’, when the band performs at When Freezes Over at VEGA in Copenhagen on April 16th and in addition, more shows will be announced in near future.

Also, watch:

Since H.E.R.O.’s inception as a trio in 2014, they have made a name of themselves as one of Denmark’s most uncompromising bands insisting on their own brand of hard, hyper melodic and hugely sounding rock music. H.E.R.O.’s singular sound reached the world on the 2019 debut album ‘HUMANIC’, from which the single ‘Superpowers’ was no 1. in four weeks on the Japanese international chart. Here the band toured with the legendary Slash and played its first headliner shows in Japan and Denmark.

In 2020, singer/guitarist Christoffer Stjerne, guitarist Søren Itenov and drummer Anders Kirkegaard was joined by one of Denmark’s most prominent bass players Johan Wohlert, and together they released H.E.R.O.’s second album ‘Bad Blood’ to great international attention.

The heavy sound on H.E.R.O.’s third album ‘Alternate Realities’ is balanced by the band’s catchy melodies, the grand production and a personal theme based on singer, guitarist and songwriter Christoffer Stjerne’s own experiences with a trauma and breach in his family relations. ‘Alternate Realities’ is produced by H.E.R.O. and Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe a.o.) and is released today March 18th 2022 through Mermaid Records.

‘Alternate Realities’ Track list:

  1. Gravity
  2. Lead The Blind
  3. Never Be The Same
  4. Oxygen
  5. Made To Be Broken
  6. Personal
  7. Cynical
  8. Monster
  9. Bring Me Back To Life
  10. Heavy Heart

LAZY QUEEN Release New EP “A Human Reaction”

Oslo-based LAZY QUEEN have released their brand new EP ‘A Human Reaction’ via Swedish label, Icons Creating Evil Art. Featuring the highly-acclaimed singles ‘Bed/Head’, ‘Alcohol’ and new single ‘Detached, Together’, Lazy Queen’s latest instalment is both an insurmountable emotional maelstrom and the exhausted, tattered calm that follows.

It seems there is no topic too sensitive for the Oslo-based four piece, they delight in weaving bouncy pop melodies around the darkest lyrical sentiments, caught up in a howl of guitars and newly explored electronic elements. With a run time of just over 18 minutes, ‘A Human Reaction’ is packed full of comforting and danceable future favourites from Lazy Queen.

‘A Human Reaction’ was first pieced together within the confines of Henrik García Søberg’s home studio. Melodies were mapped out from the same desk as the band’s most nuanced yet still edgy lyrics were being scrawled. Like almost every artist in the world in 2020, Lazy Queen were negotiating lockdowns and semi-lockdowns, and it is this combination of pressure and frustration that has led to their most honest and developed work to date.

“A Human Reaction” Tracklist:

  1. Bed/Head
  2. Â
  3. Alcohol
  4. Hūmäń
  5. Detached, Together
  6. Rėāçtįöń
  7. Leech
  8. Forget It (Outro)

Produced by Morten Øby at Taakenheimen Lydriket in Oslo, Lazy Queen band members would head into the studio in fragmented slots, unable to exact their vexation in ways they had on previous releases. In spite of this, ‘A Human Reaction’ is an expansive record that integrates itself in the psyche of its listeners, leaving a sense of heart-warming riff-heavy recognition.Vocalist/guitarist  Henrik García Søberg (they/them) explains “As a whole, I would describe the mood of this record as one of isolation, but writing about feeling lonely, it’s not to make other people feel alone or isolated, it’s rather the opposite. There’s always the option of letting yourself sit and get lost in those emotions, but making the choice of saying something, whether that be to write a song about it, picking up a phone to call a friend – you’re making a choice to prove those overwhelming feelings wrong.”

Persistent in their pursuit of experimentation, ‘A Human Reaction’ kicks off with the vibrant first single ‘Bed/Head’ which opens with a deviation from previous work –  a bubbling electronic intro. “We included a lot of new elements into our sonic palette on these recordings. Rock is very rigid and traditional, the bands that are interesting to us are the ones standing with feet in several genres. Opening the EP with the “Bed/Head” intro we wanted to make it really clear that we don’t really give a fuck about genre rules – but then we kick into a straight, punk thing on ‘Alcohol”, so it’s still very much us”. Tracks like new single ‘Detached Together’ and ‘Leech’ serve as guitar-charged, electro-tinged little glimmers of hope in the face of overwhelming devastation, loss of identity and substance abuse. “You’re trying to make something out of a feeling that feels very hopeless,” Henrik says of their experience. Woven into ‘A Human Reaction’s broad bouncy sweep are interlude tracks that spell out the EP’s title – a deeply personal late addition that was originally only meant for the ears of Lazy Queen’s inner operating circle, distorted and abstracted by electronic musician Brage Sanner (of the Oslo-based band j00). Explaining further, “I knew I wanted to include some transitional parts when we were writing the record”. Henrik continues, ”I was going through a rough patch and nothing made sense. The recording used for those transitions was this thing that was supposed to be only heard by a very few people, but in the end it felt really fitting to put it into the record. It felt like it needed to be there.”

In summing up ‘A Human Reaction’, Henrik offers a contemplative remark. “At the moment, like a lot of things, it’s hard to get a hold of – it’s hard to see the shape of this and what impact it’ll make.” They continue on, “We were really able to say what we wanted to say, even though I have no idea what that is. And it needed to come out like it has, in this moody, time capsule  but I’m still learning about how I was feeling”.

J.B.O. Share New Music Video ‘Einhorn’

For over 30 years, J.B.O. are the specialists for vociferous escapism at the highest stage. Gold albums, frenetically acclaimed live appearances and top ten chart positions pave their way. Their new album, Planet Pink, makes no exception. Especially in a world we are currently living in on planet earth, with pandemics, insane dictators, ecological disasters, surging prices for beer. Mankind’s only chance is escapism, so let’s enter the orbital glider and head for the stars when Planet Pink, the upcoming album by iconic J.B.O., starts to make its rounds on April 15, 2022 via the metal powerhouse mothership AFM Records!

After previously-released singles, “Metal Was My First Love”, the album title track and just recently, “Nicht Doof” (“Not Stupid“), today the charismatic German-based collective released a new, official music video for “Einhorn” (in engl: “unicorn”).

For obvious reasons, Planet Pink was created under very special circumstances. Usually the band bosses Vito C. and Hannes „G.Laber“ Holzmann sit together on a couch and exchange ideas. This time they jammed through the phone. It worked out, because Vito and Hannes know each other better than identical twins.

Planet Pink was recorded with producer Christoph Beyerlein at Sound and Groove studio, Nuremberg. Beyerlein is part of the J.B.O. family since 1994 and the fifth band member in the studio. Supervised by the observing ears of Beyerlein, the rest of the crew sorted and refined a lot of demo recordings for only one reason: in the end there will be just one planet glow in the brassiest colours. “It’s Planet Pink”!

Pre-Order the new J.B.O. album HERE!

Tracklist:

  1. Planet Pink
  2. Rockmusik Hat Mich Versaut
  3. Metal Was My First Love
  4. Immer Noch Am Leben

  8. Nicht Doof
  9. Mi-Ma-Metal
  10. Glaub Mir Lieber Nicht
  11. Wir Kommen Alle In Die Hölle

WAR ORPHAN Debut New Single ‘Perpetual Motion’, To Release Second Full-Length Album in June 2022

Thrash/hardcore collective WAR ORPHAN is currently wrapping up work on their 2nd full-length album, titled “Unite,” that’s due out in June 2022. As revealed by NewNoiseMagazine.com, the band has released a new track, “Perpetual Motion,” from the forthcoming sophomore record, which finds the band shifting focus from the fast, political protest hardcore of their debut release to a more uplifting, inspirational subject matter.

Commenting on the new music, vocalist David Bason states:

“’Perpetual Motion’ is meant to be the ultimate motivating song. It’s about never giving up. Never stopping. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to accomplish something, as long as you see it through. The fight is only over when you stop. You’ve got to keep your head down and do your work, visualize your goal and it will come. My mother taught me a trick she uses when hiking in the mountains. She puts her head down, focuses on the ground and doesn’t look up. She puts one foot in front of the other and doesn’t look around until she conquers her hill. She told me she is always surprised how quickly the top comes when she is focused on the ground in front of her. I try to take that lesson to my work and personal life. I set goals, I put my head down and I aim to accomplish the task. You’ll be surprised how far you get when you’re simply focussed on your task.”

WAR ORPHAN made their debut in 2020 with a seething thrash punk EP Closer To Death Than Life. Their initial offering was a fearless protest record that delivered a much needed shot of angst into the hardcore scene and swift throat-punch to rightwing extremists during the volatile and tumultuous Trump presidency. Bason summoned the furious rage that people across the country felt during the time, channeling it into songs about systematic racism (“Autonomous Zone”) and a deceitful president (“Prop Up The Polls”) among other topics. The EP led to the band’s 2021 debut full-length album “Bonkers in Yonkers.”

On their first full length outing WAR ORPHAN was playlisted on Spotify’s Political Punk, Noisy, All New Punk, The Punk List among others, was covered by numerous media outlets and garnered a strong reaction from fans around the world. The record was a terse reaction to the political tension of the times in which it was recorded.

Now five singles into the release of their second record in less that 18 months, the band has settled into a groove that reflects the positive mindset of their members.

EDGAR WINTER Releases ‘Lone Star Blues’ Johnny Winter Tribute Single Feat. Keb’ Mo’

Quarto Valley Records releases “Lone Star Blues” today, the third single off the upcoming new album “Brother Johnny,” an all-star tribute to Johnny Winter organized by his brother Edgar Winter. Listen to the single HERE.

The album “Brother Johnny” is now available for PRE-ORDER.

“Lone Star Blues” features Edgar Winter and Keb’ Mo’, a perfect pairing for this personal and biographical song Edgar penned especially for this tribute. Edgar’s gritty singing and Keb’s impeccable guitar works to transport the listener to a small smoky backroom club and the lonesome dirt road that leads there.

“Well, I was born in Beaumont left when I was in my teens…
I was playing music, searching for just what life means…”

“I don’t think this album would be complete without at least one, heartfelt, personal tribute from me to my brother–in the form of a song,” Edgar wrote in the album’s liner notes. “So I wrote this about something I know Johnny felt deep in his heart…The idea of being a star yet feeling all alone…
and then the perfect title, ‘Lone Star Blues’ came to me” which as a native Texan carries a double meaning.

“When it came to a special guest artist for this one, there was one and only one person I wanted to do it, and that is Keb’ Mo’. Keb’ Mo’ is a real blues man who feels it heart and soul. He has his own unique style that is absolutely perfect for this song.”

Brother Johnny is a powerful sonic journey, traveling the course of Johnny’s musical life, impeccably directed, as only his brother Edgar could. The guitar-driven album celebrates the expansive styles Johnny was known for – the 17 tracks were carefully curated by Edgar and producer Ross Hogarth to represent Johnny’s evolution as an artist, honouring his great legacy while also incorporating a personal tribute from brother to brother, and for which Edgar penned two new songs.

Joining Edgar on the inclusive project is an impressive array of renowned musicians who knew, or were inspired by Johnny, including Joe Bonamassa, Doyle Bramhall II, Robben Ford, Billy Gibbons, David Grissom, Taylor Hawkins, Warren Haynes, Steve Lukather, Michael McDonald, John McFee, Keb’ Mo’, Doug Rappoport, Bobby Rush, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Ringo Starr, Derek Trucks, Waddy Wachtel, Joe Walsh, Phil X, Bob Glaub and Sean Hurley (bass), and Gregg Bissonette (drums), plusmusical contributions from Kenny Aronoff, Tim Pierce, Billy Payne, Doc Kupka, and David Campbell.

“Brother Johnny” will be available on CD and digitally across all platforms on April 15, 2022. Double 180-gram vinyl will be available in mid-June 2022. The album is now available to pre-order from https://lnk.to/BrotherJohnny.

The album’s first single, “Johnny B. Goode”, released on January 7, 2022, features Edgar, Joe Walsh, David Grissom, Bob Glaub, Gregg Bissonette and Phil X. Listen to it HERE.

The second single, “Mean Town Blues,” was released February 18, 2022, just before February 23, what would have been Johnny’s 78th birthday. It features Edgar Winter (vocals), Joe Bonamassa (slide guitar), Sean Hurley (bass) & Gregg Bissonette (drums). Listen to it HERE.

Lone Star Blues, from Edgar Winter’s liner notes for Brother Johnny:

“One more thing. I don’t think this album would be complete without at least one, heartfelt, personal tribute–from me to my brother–in the form of a song. So, I wrote this about something I know Johnny felt deep in his heart at one time, though it may have changed in later years. It’s a thing I have to explain in order for you to understand it.

When we were kids, we both loved music, but Johnny had this drive and determination. He had The Dream, that burning ambition. He wanted to be a star!

I loved music in and of itself, just for the beauty of harmony, melody, and rhythm. It was a deeply personal and private world for me, but Johnny wanted to be famous.

He watched “Bandstand” and read all the magazines. He was Johnny “Cool Daddy” Winter, with the guitar, the pompadour, the shades, and the girls. I was the quiet kid who played all the instruments.

Now here’s the odd thing, the irony of it all. Johnny worked relentlessly–all his life–to attain this goal. And when he finally achieved it, the success, the money, the fame and fortune, the adoring fans, the recognition so hard won, the dream come true, everything he had ever wanted in life – He Hated It!

He used to say – I never thought it would be like this. I feel so alone and cut off, from everybody and everything. I don’t know who I can trust, or even talk to. Certainly not the business people, who are supposed to be on my side; they’re just trying to sell me and whatever I’ve got. They don’t know who I am, or what I’ve been through. To them, it might as well be dog food.

And the people, the fans, the girls – they Sure don’t know who I am. They’ve got some kind of crazy, fantasy idea of a superstar all made up in their heads. None of it’s real. Nothing is real! Anymore.

So, he hated it—but he Loved it too. Be careful what you wish for, the paradox of life. It was quite a shock, at first. Johnny became very disillusioned and went through an extremely difficult period. But as time went on and the years rolled by, I think he eventually came to accept and even appreciate all he had gone through and accomplished in life. He said he was happy and satisfied near the end, and I’d like to believe it’s true. In a way, we went through this together, and though I tried to write this as I think Johnny would have written it, from his point of view, it comes from both our hearts. The idea of being a star yet feeling all alone must have jelled subliminally in my subconscious to give me the perfect title, “Lone Star Blues”. When it came to me I thought—and we’re from Texas to boot. Now you can’t beat that!

When it came to a special guest artist for this one, there was one and only one person I wanted to do it, and that is Keb’ Mo’. I didn’t know him at all, but Ross did the TajMo album that won the Grammy. So he knew and worked closely with both Taj and Kevin. I asked Ross to ask him, and Ross set up a get acquainted phone call. I explained all about why I was doing the album, how much it meant to me, and about the specific song and the idea behind it. He was very nice, straight from the heart, and real. He seemed open to the possibility and said he would like to hear the song.

All we had to send was a simulated slide guitar I played on keyboard in a typical Johnny style, a vocal, and drums. In this case, less was more. What we were hoping was for Kevin to make it into a Keb’ Mo’ song, and that’s exactly what happened.

I was totally over the moon when he agreed to do it. He broke the whole thing down and started over from scratch, putting all the instruments on himself—all the guitars, bass, and some great vocal lines. Keb’ Mo’ is a real blues man who feels it heart and soul. He has his own unique style that is absolutely perfect far this song.

I had done a typical Johnny kind of vocal (very intense and gravelly), but everybody thought it was just too much and over the top. After hearing the lines that Keb’ Mo’ sang I got it. His voice was so cool and laid back, every time he sang a line the song just seemed to come to life. My lines sounded edgy, stressed, and almost angry. So I redid my entire vocal in a more natural storytelling style. I sent it to Ross, who sent it on to Keb’ Mo’. What he said, I took as a real compliment.

“Does Edgar like Mose Allison? It kind of sounds a little like Mose.” Keb’ Mo’ had a completely different feel and approach that absolutely transformed the song. Kevin, thank you from my heart. I Love you for being Keb’ Mo’ and doing what you did.”
