The new, dramatic “fight sequence” music video for the track, “Lift Me Up,” from California based alternative metal band, MOTIVE BLACK (AFM Records) has just been premiered. Produced by Grammy-winner Nick Rowe (Lamb Of God, Vampire Weekend), the track showcases the talents of frontwoman Elana Justin, and features special guest Carla Harvey of Butcher Babies, on vocals.

The powerful music video for “Lift Me Up” features the red hot synergy of Justin performing together with Butcher Babies’ Carla Harvey in a street fighting sequence fans will want to view on repeat. Elana Justin explains: “I wanted the video to focus on female strength. The director and I worked together to come up with an idea that spoke to that. It was also fun to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I’ve never done anything combat related so it seemed like it would be a fun avenue to explore. The director, Dale Resteghini, also directed the video for “Broken”.

I’m a Butcher Babies fan, so when the song was played for Carla and she agreed to perform on it I was super excited.  Carla is a great example of a badass woman killing it in the music  industry. I think her vibe fits the song perfectly. She really added something special to “Lift Me Up.” Working together really brought the song up to a new level.

I think it’s really important for people to see women working together to create music and art.  We keep seeing It more and more and it’s so exciting. It’s essential for women in this industry to stick together and support each other. There is so much more female visibility in this kind of music than there was even just a few years ago.”

Carla Harvey (Butcher Babies) concurs stating “I love collaborating with strong women on projects so when I was asked to add my vocals to “Lift Me Up,” I happily obliged. The result…an infectious tune, a new found friendship and a ride through Compton in the sickest 1968 Firebird…the stuff dreams are made of!”

Motive Black will appeal to fans of Evanescence, Delain, Follow The Cypher, The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, In This Moment, Shinedown.

“Lift Me Up” was produced at the legendary NRG Studios in North Hollywood, Calif. by Grammy-winning Nick Rowe (Vampire Weekend, Lamb Of God, Madonna, Snoop Dogg) and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Korn, Papa Roach). “It’s been a real treat working with Elana,” Nick Rowe explains. “She is a diamond in the rough—unafraid to explore new musical territory and put her soul on the page lyrically.  I can’t wait for everybody to hear what we’ve been working on!”

Alternative hard rock/metal band BREAKING IN A SEQUENCE released their long awaited new EP Defy the Algorithm to all major platforms. They will release their newest single “Leave Me Be” on April 27, 2022.

Defy The Algorithm can be streamed/downloaded at: Spotify – Itunes – YouTube Music

Breaking In A Sequence is based out of Huntington Beach, California and features drummer David Silveria, bassist Chris Dorame, guitarists Joe Taback and Mike Martin. The band formed after a worldwide vocalist search led them to recruit Rich Nguyen. The band’s diverse musicality is backed by Silveria’s signature groove and neatly wrapped together by captivating vocal melodies.

The band’s debut singles “Pity” and “Change Your Mind”, released on January 4, 2019, were met with tremendous fanfare. “Pity”, the edgier track of the two, has helped grow the band’s following exponentially in both the U.S. and abroad. “Change Your Mind”, showcases the band’s softer, melodic side. The two singles were released as a SIDE A/B as a throwback to the 80’s and 90’s single releases. “Pity” peaked in the TOP 25 (#23) on the Billboard (BDS) Indicator Chart and TOP 10 (#9) on the Foundations (SMR) Chart. It has reached over 264,000 streams on Spotify and 54,000 views on YouTube.

A third single “Hesitation”, was released on July 16, 2019 to radio with an accompanying music video. The song is the exact middle ground between the first two singles. It peaked in the TOP 25 (#24) on the Billboard (BDS) Indicator Chart and TOP 10 (#6) on the Foundations (SMR) Chart. It has reached over 26,000 streams on Spotify and over 72,000 views on YouTube.

The band released their debut EP Acronym in January of 2021. It has reached over 560,000 streams on Spotify. The video for the final single “Anything But Right” was released on August 13, 2021.

Ukraine’s WHITE WARD Announce “False Light” Album, Out June 17th

Despite the tragic events happening in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion, WHITE WARD unwaveringly herald the coming of their third album, “False Light“, on June 17th. Their new long player is a grand work of exploratory depth and a remarkable expansion upon all that made 2019’s acclaimed “Love Exchange Failure” such a triumph.

WHITE WARD composed eight dystopian tracks rooted in a melodic Black and Death fundament, while flawlessly interweaving brass-led darkjazz and stately post-rock, gothic Americana/post-punk influences as well as integrating virtuosic guitar leads, textural electronics and atmospheric sample-work.

Tracklist:

01. Leviathan
02. Salt Paradise
03. Phoenix
04. Silence Circles
05. Echoes In Eternity
06. Cronus
07. False Light
08. Downfall

Conceptually, “False Light” is influenced by Mykhailo Kotsubinsky, a Ukrainian author and poet of the early 20th century, and his impressionistic novel “Intermezzo“. The story of urban angst and the search for inner and outer peace did not only inspire the lyrics, but also the cover artwork of the album.

Composer & guitarist Yurii Kazarian narrates:

“The idea behind the cover artwork is symbolic metaphor. The main character of the album is searching for a better life and believes he can find it outside the big city. But after his journey, he realizes that something like a better place does not exist. Instead of a cozy hut he found a ruined, half-rotten house.“

The title “False Light“, moreover, is a direct reference to the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. Vocalist Andrii Pechatkin comments:

“The title is linked to Plato’s Cave, namely concerning the following phrase: ‘it would hurt his eyes, and he would escape by turning away to the things which he was able to look at.’ We look at certain things and perceive them distortedly because we are biased by our previous experience. If one, however, would look at the real thing, the real light, so to speak, this light would hurt the observer’s eyes. Thus, the false light is the veil of Maya — the easier way to look at the inner and outer worlds.“

“False Light” was recorded at Jenny Records, LipkyZvukoZyps and WHITE WARD‘s home studios. It was mixed and mastered by Alex Sedin of Ghostalgy Productions. The cover artwork shows a photography by Lucas DeShazer, while the band photo was shot by Serhii Kovalo. Design and layout by El Chulito.

To premiere a first song of the new album, Debemur Morti Productions teamed up with Metal Injection. With over thirteen minutes length, ‘Leviathan‘ is a monumental composition unifying nearly all different influences and elements present on WHITE WARD‘s new album into a coherent composition. Listen to the track below:

Yurii comments on ‘Leviathan‘:

“It was one of the first songs we started to work on for our third album. This track set the mood and style for the rest of the album. I cannot remember exactly how long it took to complete this song, but I can say that its creation went through a dozen phases, a lot of variants and fixes, because we are always trying to achieve the best possible result. The compositional process, however, remained the same as always: at first, I created most of the riffs, the structure & rhythm of the song, and then, together as a band, we focused on the details and introduced new ideas into different parts of the song. For me it was easy to decide that this song is the opener of the album. When I create music, I already feel and know the exact place a specific song should have on the tracklist of the album. Therefore, it is almost always a spontaneous process, much more than a coherent planning.“

“False Light” will be released on CD (digipack & limited digibook), tape, vinyl and digitally on June 17th. Different merch designs will accompany the album as t-shirt (men/women), long sleeves and hooded sweatshirt. Pre-orders for the album and merch are possible via the label’s EU, US (no merchandising) and Bandcamp shops.

WHITE WARD, from Odessa, Ukraine performs intensely deviant music of a noir shade.

Formed in 2012 and taking root in raw depressive Black Metal, the band rapidly shed all boundaries, taking inspiration from an array of dark atmospheres including the writings of H.P. Lovecraft and I.M. Banks. The band’s excellent early recordings were compiled into the “Origins” compilation released in 2016.

First full-length “Futility Report” was released in 2017 by Debemur Morti Productions to instant critical acclaim. Exploring themes of borderline death states, aberrant afterlife worlds, and strange mental disorders, the WHITE WARD sound had evolved into a unique mix of Post-Black Metal, deeply emotive soundscapes and expansive dark-Jazz atmospheres utilising perfectly fitting saxophone motifs.

WHITE WARD continued to evolve in distinctive directions with 2019’s much-admired “Love Exchange Failure“: the dark-Jazz aesthetics more vibrant and deeper than before, the elements of blackened Death, Progressive and Black Metal – propelled by new drummer Noctum – now more furiously intense and complex. Lyrically the record explored more universal, less-abstract dimensions, diving into the abyss of the human psyche atop the band’s most lush and professional sound to date.

In 2021, WHITE WARD composed and recorded two new songs to celebrate the 200th release of their label Debemur Morti Productions. A continuation of the band’s progressive Black Metal experimentalism, the new EP “Debemur Morti” features Lars Nedland (BORKNAGAR, SOLEFALD) on additional vocals.

Just one year later, in June 2022, the Ukrainian Black Metal innovators are prepared to unleash their third album, “False Light“, incorporating and intertwining various influences into a potent and dystopian mix. “False Light” is an indispensable record from a stunning band at the top of their game, skillfully giving form to urban angst and the writings of Mykhailo Kotsubinsky, a famous Ukrainian writer of the early 20th century.

ANVIL Share New Song & Video ‘Take A Lesson’ Of Upcoming Album

May 20, 2022 will see iconic speed and heavy metal titans ANVIL release their brand new studio album, entitled Impact Is Imminent, via AFM Records. To shorten your wait, the Canadian trio has just shared a second song taken of their upcoming, nineteenth record!

On Impact Is Imminent, ANVIL fires off merciless riff attacks, relentlessly driving drums and impressive bass grooves, complemented by vocal melodies and lyrics that inevitably drill themselves into the listener’s aural tract. As always, Lips Kudlow and founding member and drummer Robb Reiner, are at the epicentre of this heavy metal extravaganza. For the past eight years, they have been supported by bassist Chris Robertson, who not only complements the ANVIL fold on a personal level, but also enhances the tracks with his powerful low frequency bass parts and backing vocals.

After the previously-released, first single, ‘Ghost Shadow’, the band has just unleashed another blistering new track. Watch the new ANVIL lyric video clip for “Take A Lesson” right here:

“None of our previous albums blends music and lyrics into as tight a unit as ‘Impact Is Imminent’,” enthuses charismatic frontman Lips on the fourteen songs on the group’s new album. “Everything comes together homogeneously. As a result, the new material sounds monolithic, right down to the very last details, both in terms of rhythm and harmonies. In the past, our studio sessions were sometimes like a little like jumping in at the deep end, with us having to improvise a lot and making decisions at short notice. Working on ‘Impact Is Imminent’, not only was there plenty of time for the songwriting process in the run-up to the recordings, but I also had the leisure to put all my ideas to the acid test and work on them until they were perfect.”

After 40 years in the music industry, touring the world in sold-out venues, and garnering critically acclaim for Anvil! The Story Of Anvil – the number #1 music documentary of every metalhead – ANVIL belongs to one of the most distinctive bands of their genre, often cited as having influenced notable metal acts such as Slayer, Megadeath, Metallica or Anthrax.

Like its three predecessors ‘Anvil Is Anvil’ (2016), ‘Pounding The Pavement’ (2018) and ‘Legal At Last’ (2019), Impact Is Imminent was produced by Martin ‘Mattes’ Pfeiffer (U.D.O., among others) and Jörg Uken at Uken’s Soundlodge studios, so the successful combination consisting of Anvil/Pfeiffer/Uken has struck again.

Slated for a release on May 20th as CD, Vinyl and Digital formats, the album pre-sale of Impact Is Imminent is available at THIS LOCATION!
