LYCHGATE Premiere New Track ‘Renunciation’ from Upcoming Album

“Rise, the chainless!
For they whose sight was not relinquished
Rise, the insurgents!
Contrary to the spirit of the age
For we dare to see the stars
as our ancestors did.” (‘Renunciation‘)

On December 19th, LYCHGATE will unveil their meticulously crafted fourth album, “Precipice“. In anticipation, the UK avant–Black/Death Metal ensemble now presents a second preview track, ‘Renunciation.’ Steeped in oppressive grandeur and apocalyptic fervour, the piece evokes a profound spiritual unease and piercing, cerebral intensity.

Interweaving literary, philosophical, and cinematic influences, “Precipice” is conceptually based on E. M. Forster‘s “The Machine Stops” (1909) – a story of humanity’s underground existence and total dependence on a god-like machine – and also draws from Plato‘s ‘allegory of the cave’, H. G. Wells‘ “A Story of the Days to Come“, and T. S. Eliot‘s “The Waste Land.”

Main composer Vortigern reflects on the lyrical conception of ‘Renunciation‘ and its significance to the album’s overarching thematics:

“‘Renunciation‘ refers to the longing of the novella’s main character, Kuno, to escape the underground prison of hexagonal cells, his musings on the open landscapes as they were in times before, and his awareness that such landscapes now consist of exiles, who have been expelled from the machine. ‘Renunciation‘ precedes the track ‘The Meeting of Orion and Scorpio‘ in the album’s track-listing, in which he does escape, but is captured by a giant worm, which pulls him down below again. The succeeding track is therefore a direct link to the cover art, in which a snake is depicted, illustrating essentially the same meaning.“

“Precipice” will be released on CD, vinyl – including an exclusive DMP variant – and digital on December 19th. A special t-shirt design will accompany the launch. Pre-orders are possible via DMP’s EU, US and Bandcamp shops.

LYCHGATE was formed in 2011 by Vortigern (guitars) with the collaboration of Greg Chandler (vocals and guitars), Aran (Bass) and T. J. F. Vallely (drums). In 2012, the self-titled debut was recorded and then released in the first quarter of 2013 through Mordgrimm and Gilead Media. The material on this album was partly inspired by demo material from a pre-LYCHGATE project known as ARCHAICUS; demos that would later be released through Cult Never Dies and entitled, “The Early Years – ‘Beneath the Horizon’ and Other Demos, 2002-06“.

Between January 2012 and December 2013, Vortigern wrote material for the second album entitled “An Antidote for the Glass Pill“, which was thematically inspired by Bentham‘s concept of the Panopticon. It was recorded almost entirely at Priory Studios intermittently in the second half of 2014. It was then released through the Finnish label Blood Music in August 2015. The album was a significant step in the development of LYCHGATE‘s sound, with the utilisation of organ as a compositional backbone to all tracks, along with influences from late 19th century/early 20th century art music, Rock in Opposition, musique concréte and 1940s-70s cinema. Besides the core line-up and addition of Alan Webb on bass, the band invited Kevin Bowyer to perform all organ parts.

The press received “An Antidote” highly, with praise given to its uniqueness and forward-thinking approach. It has been featured in lists for the top metal albums of the 2010s, from Angry Metal Guy and Invisible Oranges. Shortly after the release date, a European tour was conducted with NIGHTBRINGER in November 2015. The following year, the band performed the entire album with real organ at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

In August 2017, LYCHGATE entered Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez (ULVER, PARADISE LOST, ORANSSI PAZUZU) to record the third album for Blood Music, entitled “The Contagion In Nine Steps“, in which the band adopted generally slower tempos, and psychedelic atmospheres. The album was inspired by the Stanisław Lem novel “The Invincible (Niezwyciężony)” and variations on the theme of group-think and crowd psychology.

During August/September 2019, an EP entitled “Also sprach Futura” was recorded at Priory Studios, inspired by the film “Metropolis” (1925/1927), and Lem‘s “Golem XIV” (1981). The work was quicker paced, and more similar to “An Antidote” than its predecessor. It was released on Debemur Morti Productions in March 2020. A subsequent European tour with WHITE WARD was regrettably cancelled due to the global pandemic at the time.

In 2025, LYCHGATE entered Priory Studios to record “Precipice“. It is due to be released in the winter of 2025 through Debemur Morti Productions.

LYCHGATE 2025 are:

J.C. Young “Vortigern” – Guitars, Organ, Piano, Orchestration
Greg Chandler – Vocals
S.D. Lindsley – Guitar
Tom McLean – Bass
T. J. F. Vallely – Drums

A limited collection of Celtic Frost fine art and jewellery, overseen and approved by Tom G. Warrior, is set to be unleashed via Down With The Most High Productions. The items are now available for pre-order, with non-bespoke items shipping from 10 December, and bespoke items (such as the bronze sculpture) shipping from 10 January 2026. The collection pays homage to the dark spirit of the extreme metal pioneers and their influential debut EP “Morbid Tales”.

The collection features nine items in total, encompassing both bespoke fine art and premium accessories produced in Spain and the EU. The focus is on authentic materials and high-quality production. The centrepiece is an awe-inspiring Bronze Sculpture (made-to-order), representing the ultimate expression of Celtic Frost’s visual aesthetic. Each sculpture is hand-cast, guaranteeing a collector-grade finish that transcends typical merchandise.

The premium accessories include Silver Jewellery (Ring and Pendant) and a heavy Belt Buckle, crafted from precious metal to an exceptional level of detail, and are also produced on demand.

The collection is completed by a T-shirt that combines flat and 3D screen printing, a detailed embroidered Back Patch on synthetic leather, a Banner, a Sticker and a Button Badge.

The collection is the result of years of devoted development, focusing on high manufacturing standards and supreme craftsmanship. It transforms the uncompromising dark aesthetic and immense creative richness of “Morbid Tales”, an EP first released in 1984, and pivotal in the evolution of extreme metal, into durable, investment-grade objects.

Preview events showcasing the craftsmanship are scheduled for London, UK (Helgi’s, 7 December), Madrid, Spain (The Rock Temple, 13 December) and Winds of Agony Festival, Barcelona, Spain (17-18 April 2026), with more to come in 2026.

Daniel Dabadan Gayoso, Founder of Down With The Most High Productions and Curator of the Celtic Frost collection, said: “This project was born out of a decades-long devotion to Celtic Frost and the Morbid Tales album. This is not simply merchandise; every piece, from the silver jewellery to the bronze sculpture, adheres to a fine art production standard. We aimed to create official collectables that reflect the gravity and artistic commitment of the music itself, ensuring this legacy is preserved through objects of genuine quality.”

SHANE LENTZ Introduces Breathtaking ‘Liminal’ Visualizer

SHANE LENTZ presents the stunning visualizer for the track “LIMINAL”, a track taken from APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL EP, out via Wormholedeath.

For the visualizer, Shane captured footage while traveling through the landscapes of Norway—vast, remote, and hauntingly beautiful. The stark scenery becomes a mirror to the music: heavy, textured, and emotionally unrelenting. The screams, the layers, the intensity—they all seem to echo through Norway’s endless mountains and valleys, flowing across the surface of the sea.

The track “LIMINAL” is part of a larger vision: APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL, a deeply personal and atmospheric release where Shane performs everything himself. From drums to guitar, from composition to final mix, this is his sonic world, built piece by piece.

Based in Philadelphia, Shane Lentz is a bassist-turned-multi-instrumentalist known for combining technical precision with dark, atmospheric depth. His solo catalog includes The Hollowing Abyss (2024), The Solitude of Discovery (2021), and Reverse Horizons (2014).

He’s played bass for Kamikabe, Ys, and Cabaret Runaway, and appeared as a session musician on Jeff Loomis’ Plains of Oblivion, which charted across five U.S. Billboard categories.

With APHOTIC | LIMINAL | NIHIL, Shane takes full creative control, delivering a heavy, immersive experience from start to finish.

TENEBRO Unleash New Single + Video ‘Jennifer’ from Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on November 19, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: TENEBRO. Leave a comment

Italian death metal act TENEBRO are now premiering their new single “Jennifer”, the latest glimpse from their upcoming album “Una Lama D’Argento”, set for release on December 12th, 2025 via Time To Kill Records.

With its sharp, brooding approach, the track captures a sense of tension and dread, translating horror-inspired imagery into pure sonic impact.

Stream: https://ffm.to/tenebro-jennifer

The band commented:

“‘Jennifer,’ reveals a different side of Tenebro. Taking inspiration from Argento’s ‘Phenomena’, where a young girl forges a psychic connection with insects to uncover murders and mysteries, this song drifts into slower, more melancholic territory. With heavy atmospheres and a sense of dark foreboding, ‘Jennifer’ stands apart in the Tenebro catalog: a brooding, cadenced track that mirrors the film’s oppressive aura, where the supernatural becomes the key to unveiling hidden evil”.

With their horrific and claustrophobic death metal, TENEBRO reaffirm themselves as one of the most uncompromising and distinctive acts in the Italian extreme underground, ready to push even further with this new work.

With “Una Lama D’Argento”, TENEBRO take their most extreme and visionary step yet: an entire album conceived as a tribute to Dario Argento, the undisputed master of horror, giallo, and thriller cinema.
Eleven tracks that are not just songs, but episodes of a single nightmare, a journey through the dark and obsessive atmospheres of the films that shaped cinema history: Deep Red (1975), Suspiria (1977), Inferno (1980), Tenebre (1982), Phenomena (1985), and Opera (1987).

TENEBRO translate Argento’s universe into sound: riffs sharp as blades, guttural vocals emerging from the darkness, relentless drumming, and atmospheres shifting between pure violence and suffocating tension. Iconic scenes such as the mirror revealing the killer in Deep Red, the brutal mutilation in Tenebre, or the larva-filled bathtub finale in Phenomena are transformed into brutal, immersive sonic attacks, capturing the full horror and tension of the films.

As with every album, TENEBRO continue to evolve, introducing new symphonies, styles, and melodies, while remaining distinctly separate from the wider underground scene. Their music explores new horizons without ever betraying the pulsating heart that has always defined their sound: extreme, theatrical, and viscerally horror-driven.

In “Una Lama D’Argento”, TENEBRO do not merely evoke Argento’s universe: they embody it, rewriting his obsessions in Giallo Metal. It is an album that cuts, tears, and leaves no room for respite.
“Una Lama D’Argento” is not just an album: it is a sonic nightmare, a visceral tribute to the cinema that taught us to love fear.

As they prepare to follow up their latest list-topping, Billboard-busting album, Horrendous are kicking off 2026 by celebrating the record that has come to define the band’s steady upward trajectory.

Come January, Philadelphia’s finest death metal band will perform two special shows in New York City and Baltimore to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Anareta, which Decibel Magazine named the best album of 2015. During both shows, the band will play the album in full.

“This album was forged during a period of intense inspiration and drive”, Horrendous says about Anareta. “We were honing our sound while exploring new territory, and felt like we were truly becoming ourselves”.

“We are excited to reanimate these songs, many of which have not been performed in years, and to breathe new life into this record that propelled the band down our current trajectory”, the band continues. “We hope you’ll join us to toast Anareta! We will shortly be entering hibernation to focus our efforts on writing our sixth album”.

“Surprises always come up during writing — spontaneous ideas pull you into new territory and enable the realization of novel possibilities that previously were inaccessible.”

Such are the words from Horrendous drummer Jamie Knox when discussing the creation of the band’s fifth full-length, the highly anticipated ‘Ontological Mysterium’. Knox’s quote also encapsulates Horrendous’s approach to extreme metal. Since 2009, the band has capably tapped into the inaccessible by providing a fresh, unconventional take on death metal that harnesses technical brilliance with elaborate, mind-melding melodies, frothy, spewing vocals and labyrinthine song structures. This combination has made each Horrendous long play a clinic in the gratifyingly unorthodox. The trend continues on Ontological Mysterium.

The follow-up to 2018’s Idol was recorded, mixed and mastered at Subterranean Watchtower Studios in Virginia, which doubles as the homestead of guitarist/vocalist Damian Herring. While the band (completed by guitarist/vocalist Matt Knox and bassist Alex Kulick) finished much of the songwriting for Ontological Mysterium in 2019, its recording was delayed by the 2020 global pandemic and various life events. Horrendous eventually finished recording in early 2022 and mastered the album before the start of 2023.

The album upholds Horrendous’s position as one of the underground’s best outside-of-the-box extreme metal bands. Having long abandoned concern whether people would appreciate their “uniqueness,” Horrendous has embraced its role as a band willing to veer far from death metal conventions, intentionally stretching and breaking norms. To wit, the band primarily views its music as filtered through a death metal lens. This may be Horrendous’s defining trait: By not accepting parameters, nothing is off-limits.

Lineup:
Damian Herring – Guitar, Vocals
Matt Knox – Guitar, Vocals
Alex Kulick – Bass
Jamie Knox – Drums

Final SARCOFAGUS Concert Released After 15 Years — Limited 10-Copy Vinyl Edition + First Announcement of Kimmo Kuusniemi’s Ancient Streaming Assembly (ASA) “Quantum Variations” Project

Finnish metal pioneers SARCOFAGUS announce the release of LIVE FOR THE LAST TIME, the long-awaited document of the band’s final concert, recorded at Dante’s, Helsinki, in 2010. After 15 years, this historic performance is now available in an extremely limited double vinyl first edition (only 10 copies), alongside a combined CD/DVD release.

The album and CD/DVD are released by Metal Warning (Henry Juvonen) — the same man who arranged the 2010 Sarcofagus comeback tour that led to this final performance.

A Note from Kimmo Kuusniemi:
“Releasing this final Sarcofagus recording feels both emotional and complete. It closes a journey that began in 1977 and ends with the last notes played on the Dante’s stage in 2010. Sarcofagus was always about pushing boundaries, combining metal with progressive ideas and experimental impulses — and this release marks the true end of that cycle.

“But that same restless creativity didn’t stop. It simply moved into a new form.

“I let go of traditional guitar playing a long time ago — it stopped inspiring me. With the upcoming ASA Quantum Variations, I pushed that evolution much further. I use percussive attacks, harsh textures, microtonal scales, and even sounds that feel like creatures or birds.

“For me, this is the most adventurous and personal music I’ve made — a real turning point between cycles.
I approached the guitar anew trying to communicate through gesture, atmosphere, and movement rather than melody, and blended metal, progressive structure, and experimental sound-shaping in ways I hadn’t explored before.

“ASA: Quantum Variations continues the environmental, societal, and philosophical themes that have guided my work for decades, now approached through a far more experimental instrumental form.
One cycle ends. Another begins.”

The next release from Kimmo Kuusniemi’s Ancient Streaming Assembly (ASA) “Quantum Variations”, is scheduled for 2026 — the opening chapter of this new cycle.

THE FINAL PERFORMANCE — RAW, REAL, AND UNTOUCHED

The audio of the concert is preserved exactly as it happened.

The sound is a direct blend of:
–the straight feed from the sound mixer, and
–the ambient audio captured by the fixed camera placed on top of the mixer
–No overdubs.
–No fixes.
–This is the exact sound of the last Sarcofagus gig.

THE VIDEO — A LIVE PERFORMANCE ENHANCED WITH ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE

The full Sarcofagus “Live for the Last Time” video can now be viewed on YouTube:

The video was created using:
–the fixed camera mounted on the sound mixer
–a second audience-shot video (used only for visuals)
–classic Sarcofagus music video clips
–Egyptian imagery tied to the band’s mythology
–additional archival and symbolic visual elements

The final result is a live performance video, enriched with thematic and historical material that reflects the full legacy of Sarcofagus.

CREATED WITH THE MEMORY OF ESA KOTILAINEN AT ITS HEART

This entire project carries the memory of Esa Kotilainen, whose visionary keyboard work shaped the identity of Sarcofagus.
His presence resonates through the performance and through the visual material woven into this release.

LIMITED FIRST EDITION — ONLY 10 VINYL COPIES

The first vinyl pressing of LIVE FOR THE LAST TIME consists of only 10 copies.
These are the rarest Sarcofagus vinyls ever created — true collector artifacts marking the end of the band’s journey.

FORMATS AVAILABLE
–Double Vinyl (First Edition: 10 copies)
–Combined CD/DVD release featuring the full edited performance + additional visual material
