MISERERE LUMINIS Unleash New Album “Sidera”, Out Now

Montreal’s MISERERE LUMINIS have explored a stridently emotive and richly-layered strand of anguished Black Metal since their 2008 formation. Extraordinary new album “Sidera” finds the band completing the journey set by 2023 predecessor (“Ordalie“). Embracing a pristine production with just enough grit in the machine, the band utilise soaring leads and hypnotic arpeggiated guitar patterns – redolent of both lush post-rock and stark DSBM – rhythmic ingenuity, dynamic piano passages and sweeping strings to bolster an all-pervading vocal performance of heart-on-sleeve poignancy, bursting with tragedy and rage.

The cover artwork for “Sidera“, painted by Adam Burke, is an important conceptual summation of the album’s narrative – and that of predecessor “Ordalie” – as Neptune from MISERERE LUMINIS relays:

“The cover art for “Sidera” comes from a very specific inspiration. The idea of fire comes up a lot in the conceptual and symbolic realm of MISERERE LUMINIS. To me it represents some sort of ambiguity, a wild force whose purpose can be altered or moulded through intention; for example, inflicting pain or warming oneself. It can also symbolise trial or transformation. A similar ambiguity can be seen in the cover art of “Sidera“; a silhouette falling and engulfed in flames or being uplifted by celestial fire. This shift in potential and perspective is the core thematic content of the album.

Personally, I like having some sort of consistency from album to album, I love when parallels can be made between different works of Art, and since “Ordalie” and “Sidera” form a single poetic arc (lyrically at least), it made perfect sense for us to work with Adam again for “Sidera“. For both albums, we gave Adam very clear inspirations and references.“

“Sidera” is now officially released and can be consumed in its entirety via Bandcamp and YouTube:

“Sidera” continues to receive high praise from the metal press and beyond:

“Some albums impress. Some albums move you. Very few envelop you entirely, demanding you surrender to their world. “Sidera” belongs firmly in that last category. It is not merely another entry in the discography of the band — it is a defining statement.” (Metal Epidemic)

“So don’t let this one pass you by … or you’ll be missing out on one of the most captivating albums of the year.” (No Clean Singing)

“With “Ordalie“, MISERERE LUMINIS had already revealed the full extent of their potential, yet “Sidera” unquestionably represents an unexpected leap in quality.” (Metalitalia)

“Sidera” is available on CD and vinyl – including a special t-shirt design – via DMP’s EU, US and Bandcamp shops.

MISERERE LUMINIS are an unorthodox, atmospheric Black Metal band who hail from Montreal and are born from the minds behind GRIS and SOMBRES FORÊTS, two prime-movers in the Québécois underground Black Metal scene. The band’s eponymous debut album was released in late 2009 on Sepulchral Productions, after which the band returned to the shadows. MISERERE LUMINIS was resurrected in 2018 for the creation of acclaimed second opus, “Ordalie“, which was unleashed in June 2023. Various live gigs – including an expansive Autumn 2024 tour through Europe with GIVRE – followed and demonstrated the band’s move towards a more luminous presence in future.

UK Rocker DAN BYRNE Unveils ‘Praise Hell’ Video Single from Upcoming Debut LP

Hotly-tipped UK rocker Dan Byrne has unveiled his new single ‘Praise Hell’, a tantalising peek at his highly-anticipated debut record This Is Where the Show Begins (22nd May, Frontiers).

Dan comments: “Praise Hell brings a new flavour to my upcoming debut album. It’s a funky, blues-driven track with a laid-back swagger. I built this song around a killer bass line and quite a soulful, rhythmic pulse. It’s still unmistakably me, but this time through a more emotional and groove-based lens.

‘Praise Hell’ is true to being ironic in both its title and style, playing with stereotypes and spinning it in a lighter, more celebratory tone. The phrase “Praise Hell” came from the tongue-in-cheek idea of turning something viewed inherently negative into a triumph, in this instance, celebrating the freedom of escaping a toxic situation. It’s about finding gratitude in the chaos and dancing your way out of the fire, so to speak.

“The hook came from the idea of flipping the phrase “Praise Hell” into something positive, like being thankful I got out of a situation that wasn’t good for me. I liked the thought of celebrating that escape instead of mourning it. It’s bluesy, soulful and I wrote it as a reminder that you can rise above something heavy and still have fun doing it.

It’s the first song I’ve written in this style, and I love that it surprises people. The journey of writing this album has been a reminder that I can move between worlds and still sound like myself. My voice is the thread that ties it all together, and this track proves that you can be unapologetic and playful at the same time as being authentic.”

Dan Byrne swept in off the Mersey, announcing himself as a solo artist in 2023 with his debut EP, Beginnings. His powerhouse, soul-inflected vocal and deftly-executed, yet hugely accessible songcraft has quickly marked him out as an artist on the rise. Blending contemporary edge with classic influence, Byrne’s music is powerful, honest, and deeply emotive – widescreen in scope yet intimate at its core. It rocks, without question, but what truly sets him apart is the courage to weave sensitivity and vulnerability through the intensity. This isn’t just rock music – it has the heart and authenticity to connect with an audience beyond any one genre.

In just two years Dan has toured the UK three times, delivered standout performances at multiple festivals and found overwhelming support from Planet Rock – the UK’s leading rock station – where his first four singles amassed an impressive 25 weeks on the playlist. With that foundation firmly in place, Byrne now turns his focus to the release of his long-awaited debut solo album, marking the next powerful step in his evolution as an artist.

This Is Where The Show Begins – Dan’s debut album – is full of joy and confidence. There’s a swagger alongside the sensitivity, a further broadening of musical scope. But at the centre of it, is that voice –  as powerful as it is vulnerable, as emotive as it is strong.

The lead single, ‘Saviour’ – the perfect album opener – bursts to life with attention-grabbing hard-rock stabs and pile-driving riffs. Its verses simmer with drama before the tension breaks in a chorus that makes it clear we’re in for one hell of a ride. It struts, it shimmies and it absolutely rocks. “Light ’em up,” indeed. There’s no let up as we barrel headlong into ‘She’s the Devil’ – Dan weighing in with a colossal vocal punctured by gonzo guitar gymnastics, the sheer euphoria spilling forth here is palpable.

Elsewhere, we’re taken to church with ‘Praise Hell’, and ‘Sober’ is stained with regret. We even perhaps get a glimpse of where Byrne is heading next with album closer ‘Home’ – a sprawling, soaring, shapeshifting piece of alt-rock which essentially is never in danger of losing its soul. It’s what Glenn Hughes and 30 Seconds To Mars might come up if they ever combined their superpowers.
This Is Where The Show Begins is the culmination of what has been an incredible journey so far. It’s a marker for what can happen when you back yourself, a calling card for following your gut. Bursting with ambition, diversity and authenticity, this is where it may truly begin for Dan, the exciting thing for us to ponder is where it should lead to next.

LIMINAL SKY Announce Debut Album “All Tomorrow’s Darkness”, First Single + Video ‘Some Other Time’ Out Now

Liminal Sky is the rebirth of the creative partnership behind progressive post rock band Messenger, brought to life by producer Jaime Gomez Arellano and Daniel Knight. Their debut album All Tomorrow’s Darkness, featuring Mat McNerney (Hexvessel/Grave Pleasures), Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver) and members of Årabrot, Ulver and Jaga Jazzist will be released on 19th June, via Karisma Records.

Liminal Sky are proud to release a their first single ‘Some Other Time’, expressing their beautifully bleak and vivid exploration of grief and illumination.

Stream and pre-order https://orcd.co/some-other-time

Liminal Sky comment that the single is: “Written in the shadow of sudden and slow loss, Gomez losing a close family member to Covid, and Mat‘s mother slowly disappearing through Alzheimer’s. Grief reshapes memory, not as an ending, but something that persists and evolves. This song is about the endurance of grief, and the pain of love without saying goodbye.“

Liminal Sky is the meeting point of two musicians searching for a way out of the darkness. Continuing their work from their previous band Messenger, Jaime Gomez Arellano and Daniel Knight channel sadness and loss into a shared musical language. The borderland between despondency and tear-stained hope has a name: Liminal Sky.

Progressive, widescreen guitars chime out, stark yet luminous, barren yet revealing as Liminal Sky layers and climaxes each song to a heady reverberating crescendo. The instrumentation on All Tomorrow’s Darkness is seamlessly eclectic, and spirited by a constellation of guest musicians and voices who appear throughout. Mat McNerney’s vocals and lyrics on six of the album’s nine tracks form the backbone of the record. Crafting the lyrics and vocal arrangements together with Gomez and Knight in Finland to establish the soul of their debut album, McNerney’s words articulate the album’s terrain. Having recently lost his mother, McNerney brought a profound personal resonance with songs like ‘In Some Secret Universe’ and ‘Algebra of Unknowing’ expanding the album’s honesty and depth.

Other voices move through All Tomorrow’s Darkness like spectral presences: Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver) brings a fragile, shimmering intensity to two tracks, while Karin Park (Årabrot) adds raw emotional gravity to ‘Penance,’ and Daniel O’Sullivan (Ulver, Æthenor, Grumbling Fur, Årabrot collaborator) provides a haunting vocal invocation on the title track. Around them, instrumental colours bloom across the record’s expanse with Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist, The National Bank) threading saxophone, synths and lap steel, while Alicia Nurho (violinist/violist in contemporary classical & experimental music) paints the album with pale, trembling strings. Anders Møller (Kåre & The Cavemen / Euroboys, Ulver live percussionist) deepens the rhythmic pulse with ritualistic percussion, Tore Ylwizaker (Ulver) in one of his last recorded performances contributes a ghostly piano refrain, and Ole Alexander Halstensgård (Ulver) shadows the soundscape with dissolving electronic textures. Finally, Matt Rozeik (Necro Deathmort) (multi-instrumentalist/producer known for atmospheric electronic and alternative rock work) adds subtle, smouldering synth tones. Every collaborator adds texture without altering direction, held together by Gomez’s careful production and cohesive sonic identity for clarity and atmosphere.

Set to be released worldwide by Karisma Records on 19th June, All Tomorrow’s Darkness introduces Liminal Sky as a music of fearless vulnerability. It is melancholic post-rock scraped down to bone, grief and beauty without resolution. For fans of Messenger, (old) Opeth,Jeff Buckley, Ulver, The Mars Volta, Anathema, Radiohead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Rós, and Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden era.

All Tomorrow’s Darkness marks both an ending and a beginning: a final chapter in a long, difficult period for its creators, and the opening of a new path for Liminal Sky. Gomez has already begun writing the next Liminal Sky album. Whether out of necessity or instinct, the world of Liminal Sky continues to expand, bleakly, beautifully and lit by the faint glow that appears when all other lights have gone out.

Tracklist:
1. Some Other Time
2. A Solitary Future
3. In Some Secret Universe
4. Forget Me Not
5. Penance
6. The Weight of Heaven
7. Algebra of Unknowing
8. Oar on the Mooring
9. All Tomorrow’s Darkness

KALERIAN WARCRY’s New Album “Veripellot” Out Now — a Study of War, Grief & the Dark Sides of Humanity

Finnish blackened death metal band Karelian Warcry released their third album “Veripellot” on March 6th. The work with the album album took shape over the years 2010–2024, nearly coming to a halt following the death of the band’s founding member, vocalist-guitarist M.I. Mikkonen. Veripellot became a composite, uniting Karelian Warcry’s two different line-ups and the pandemonium of the entire timespan.

Veripellot is a study of war, grief, and the dark sides of humanity. The themes rise from the band members’ personal experiences, collective traumas, and a shared interest in the events of their home region and its war history. The album is, on one hand, a memorial writing for fallen friends, and on the other, a glimpse into the horrors of the Finnish Civil War. On Veripellot, the rough thunder of war resounds — and at times an oppressive stillness.

Veripellot consists of nine distinct tracks. Musically, the album is a step forward for the band — groovier, yet straightforwardly uncompromising. Progressive elements have also been brought into the mix.

Five Years After Their Latest Album VREID Return with “The Skies Turn Black”, Out Now

On March 6th, 2026, Vreid released The Skies Turn Black, their first studio album in five years and a powerful statement from one of Norway’s most enduring metal bands. The album marks a renewed creative chapter, shaped through a challenging but ultimately transformative process in which the band reconnected with the essence of their Sognametal roots while exploring new dimensions of their sound.

Listen to the album here: https://ffm.to/theskiesturnblack

Throughout the album’s eleven tracks, Vreid merges fragments of their past with a revitalized artistic drive. The early breakthrough came with From These Woods, written during a late-night session in a remote mountain cabin. The song captured the emotional core of the album and helped steer the band back toward the heart of their identity.

The title track The Skies Turn Black also holds a central place on the album. Written by bassist and songwriter Jarle Kvåle as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and the music that has shaped his life, the song carries a deeply personal foundation. Kvåle’s experience attending Black Sabbath’s farewell concert in Birmingham, after previously helping to organize the band’s final Norwegian shows along with Ozzy’s, left a profound mark and sparked the creative energy that shaped the song’s weight and atmosphere.

The album also highlights Vreid’s cinematic side. Kraken was composed for a major upcoming film project and carries a personal dimension, as the film’s producer was the band’s first music teacher and helped them record their earliest demos more than thirty years ago. In contrast, Loving the Dead expands Vreid’s musical territory with a striking guest performance from Agnete Kjølsrud of Djerv, adding intensity and emotional depth that pushes the track into new terrain.

With hand-drawn artwork by Kim Holm and a powerful production shaped together with producer Anders Nordengen, The Skies Turn Black stands as one of Vreid’s most focused and expressive works to date. It reflects pride, resilience and a renewed creative fire that defines the next era of the band.

The Skies Turn Black will be released on March 6th 2026, with pre-orders opening on December 10th. The release aligns with Vreid’s return to European stages as they join Hypocrisy, Abbath and Vomitory on a major tour in 2026.

Vreid remains one of Norway’s most resilient and forward-driven metal bands, shaped by history, strengthened by adversity and still driven by an unshakable creative fire.
