VOLA Release “Live From the Pool” on 1st April

VOLA nnounce the first live release, ‘Live From The Pool’ Out 1 April 2022 Via Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group.

In September 2021, Danish-Swedish quartet VOLA performed an intimate show in a stunning live setting. ‘Live From The Pool’ took place at the swimming pool of the abandoned Auderød military camp in North Zealand near Copenhagen, Denmark. Designed by the world-famous architect Henning Larsen this defunct building has become part of the Auderød nature park. A place where nature encounters the mysteries of a once existing military base, ready to be explored.

Creating a unique experience, the bands’ genre-melding music collaborates with visionary Danish audio-visual artist collective Vertigo, where light, nature, music, and concrete meet.

Talking about the show, Nicolai Mogensen says, “The idea for ‘Live From The Pool’ was conceived at a time where it was particularly hard to be a band with an international fanbase. Due to the Covid-19-pandemic making live shows and touring practically impossible, we were forced to think carefully and creatively about how to reach our listeners in new ways. We wanted to do something spectacular that didn’t seem like a compromise – and with loads of help from talented people, we think we succeeded in creating an online concert experience out of the ordinary.”

He continues, “‘Live From The Pool’ is the biggest production we have ever made as a band, and it was very exciting for us to work with such an extensive set-up. We filmed the entire concert, featuring both new and old material, at an abandoned indoor swimming pool with five cameras and a drone, the scenery lit up by a beautiful light installation, custom-made for this show by the Danish audio-visual artist collective Vertigo.”

The show features incredible performances from their back catalogue, including “Alien Shivers,” “Stray The Skies,” “Whaler,” “Ghosts”, as well as songs from their latest album Witness. Fans outside Denmark can hearnew songs such as “Straight Lines,” “These Black Claws,” Head Mounted Sideways”, and more live for the first time.

This first taste of Thorns sees the legendary BLACK SABBATH singer at the top of his game, a wicked wizard weaving his spell with seductive sonic mastery.” — Metal Tim Henderson, BraveWords.com

Talking about the new album Tony had this to say, “This new album is probably the most “Tony Martin” a Tony Martin album has ever sounded!! It’s got several surprises that will lift people’s eyebrows I am sure. Largely, but not entirely based around the riffs of Scott McClellan, new to the world scene he has proved to be a worthy partner in crime for this release… I was able to make some great songs out of the riffs he was coming up with which is very similar in the writing sense to that which I experienced with Tony Iommi. Different sound and style but the riffing talent that someone like Scott has is very cool.

It is diverse, melodic, powerful, thought provoking and of a standard high as ever i have worked on. I believe there are stories still to tell, songs still to be sung and with this album I feel it’s achieved everything I could have wished for.

Grateful to the people who have given their extra talents in appearances on this recording, it’s been a challenge in COVID lockdown, getting everyone’s performances from across the world, but in another way it was a perfect opportunity to get it done.”

Tony Martin, is an English heavy metal vocalist, best known for his time fronting Black Sabbath, initially from 1987 to 1991 and again from 1993 to 1996. Martin was the band’s second longest serving vocalist after Ozzy Osbourne. Eternal Idol and Headless Cross are among the best known Black Sabbath albums featuring Tony Martin as well as Scream his solo album from 2005.

The new album features Danny Needham (Venom), Magnus Rosen (HammerFall), Scott McClellan (who helped co-write the album) and Greg Smith who performed with Alice Cooper, Rainbow, Blue Öyster Cult, and many more!

SOUTH OF EDEN Rework VAN HALEN’s ‘Drop Dead Legs’

Columbus, OH based Rockers SOUTH OF EDEN have released their newest single, a cover of the 1984 VAN HALEN track “Drop Dead Legs,” off of their breakout album, 1984. Directed by front-man Ehab Omran and edited by John Payne, “Drop Dead Legs” is only streamable from the band’s YouTube and Facebook.

“‘Drop Dead Legs’ is one of many VH songs where the riff, lyrics, and groove come together to form a sound signature to those 4 dudes jamming in a room. Although we have played ‘Unchained’, ‘Running With the Devil’, ‘Beautiful Girls’ and more of their other tunes live, ‘Drop Dead Legs’ felt like the best choice to encapsulate everything we love about Van Halen! RIP to a legend” — Ehab Omran (Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar)

We’re a band that writes, records, and plays like the pioneers of rock before us. We aren’t looking to bring anything back, but instead to remind people what rock n roll means. No rules. This music represents what we believe is real, raw music.

South of Eden (formerly Black Coffee) are: Ehab Omran [lead vocals, acoustic guitar], Justin Young [lead guitar, vocals], Tom McCullough [drums], and Nick Fratianne [bass]. The Columbus, OH quartet have already performed alongside everyone from the Foo Fighters to System of a Down, and invite you to join them on their journey of looking at rock ‘n’ roll through a modern lens.

“Our goal is to help open the doors for rock in the modern era. We want to sound the way we hear rock n roll in our heads; vintage with a sprinkle of today. The objective is to give listeners the feeling of discovering the genre for the first time. We think now is the moment to be a rock band.”

LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT Releases New Video for ‘Twin Flame’

Juno nominated singer/Songwriter LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT has released a haunting video for her track “Twin Flame”. The video was originally released on her Patreon to celebrate the creative community she has grown there.

“If you know about the Twin Flame phenomenon it is because you’ve experienced it yourself. You meet someone that you feel you’ve known forever. Everything changes around you: your life, your thoughts, your path and purpose. Intensely romantic or intensely painful, they are the mirror of your soul and ignite you to “wake up” to who you truly are.

This song came to me over the summer of 2021 and was recorded and released on my Patreon not long after. Some songs you can sit on for a while, but this one was on loop every night in my head, constantly reminding me that it wanted to be birthed. Once I had connected with Phantasma Photography over Twitter, the music video followed not long after and with so much ease. It’s like it was all meant to be.

After deep diving into Twin Flame experiences shared all over the globe, Chris (Phantasma) and I started drawing up the visuals for the music video. Along with Chris’s unique visual style and what resources we had available, we were able to create a smokey dreamland where the two halves of the Twin Flame long to find each other again.

While I’m usually known for releasing Gothic Metal tracks, it’s abundantly clear that this song, while Ethereal and Gothic, is a bit of a departure from metal. While I have plans to release more metal tracks in 2022, on Patreon I’m exploring other avenues of dark music. I am a huge fan of electronic and Trip-Hop artists like Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, and VAST and that influence shines through here.

Creating Twin Flame was a new journey with sharing the whole creative process over Patreon. It took a bit of discipline to get out of my head, slow down, and document and share every step, but my Patrons truly appreciated it and because of that I know they feel a special connection to this track too.”

ENDSEEKER Release New Video for ‘Merciless Tide’

In April 2021, ENDSEEKER released their latest full-length, Mount Carcass, via Metal Blade Records – which debuted at #22 on the German charts! Now, the band has launched a new video for the track, “Merciless Tide”, which can be viewed below.

Ben Liepelt (guitars) comments: “Merciless Tide deals with a bunch of so called conspiracy theories which are still a big thing and seem to have even massively grown over the past 2 years. It’s one of the first songs we’ve written for “Mount Carcass” and with its heavy midtempo groove we thought it would be a great choice to put out as the 6th video from that record while it’s lyrically more up to date than ever. The video was shot on a cold Sunday afternoon in December of 2021 and we wanted to keep it super simple with a strong DIY vibe. No fancy stuff, just the 5 of us shredding out in our rehearsal room. What you see is what you get.“

Having become one of the premier German death metal bands – and rapidly rising the ranks of the genre as a whole – Endseeker storm back into the fray with Mount Carcass. Building on the groundwork laid down on 2017’s Flesh Hammer Prophecy and having the difficult task of besting 2019’s stunning The Harvest, they have returned with a streamlined, powerful collection that further raises the bar.

Like both of its predecessors, Mount Carcass was recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by Eike Freese at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg, Germany. Going into the record, Endseeker knew they wanted something rawer and more organic than The Harvest, and while Covid was causing global havoc, the band embraced the time they would have otherwise spent touring, using it to rehearse and discuss what they wanted the record to be. From this process they knew they wanted the songs to be quite straightforward and even have something of a “punkish / crust feel, so to speak. The songs are pretty reduced to the core with all the ballast removed. Every part and every riff has a meaning and isn’t just there for no other reason than extending the song. The album is also very melodic. There are a bunch of very strong guitar hooks and vocal compositions that really stick in your ears for days. It’s way simpler and probably more easy to listen to compared to ‘The Harvest’ or ‘Flesh Hammer Prophecy’, but at the same time, it has a very spontaneous and lively attitude with a big chunk of personality.” To keep the genre sounding fresh in 2021, they focused on the production, having just a touch of the old school vibe to remain rooted, and they did not limit themselves too hard to the Swedish death metal style of songwriting they previously embraced, but also let other influences into their songs. “You can hear all kinds of stuff that is inspired by bands like Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Slayer, Dissection, Gorefest, etc. We listen to so many different bands, and somehow, a bit from all of this keeps adding to our music.“
