ALKALOID Break with Metal Tradition on Faithful Performance of New Single ‘Agnus Dei’

They’ve already redefined the very composition of progressive death metal, but on their upcoming live album, Alkaloid conduct a one-of-a-kind experiment that only a true maestro can perform. Joined on stage by an award-winning ensemble, on Bach Out of Bounds, the supergroup bring the revered classical composer in conversation with the heaviest of underground arts.

Today, Alkaloid are releasing the second advanced single from Bach Out of Bounds. While honoring the otherworldly power of Bach’s original offering, the band’s performance of “Agnus Dei” breaks from metal’s traditions.

“This is the most faithful interpretation of Bach on our new live album”, vocalist, guitarist and primary composer Morean says. “It’s a serene, fragile sound world hitherto unexplored by Alkaloid”.

Bach Out of Bounds – Live in the Netherlands comes out January 23, 2026 on Season of Mist.

Across three studio albums, Alkaloid have experimented with worldly polyrhythms, brutally technical riffing, infectious choruses and sci-fi concepts built in honor of Lovecraftian entities. The band remain curious as ever on Bach Out Of Bounds, though even the brains behind their first-ever live album is shocked by its latest creation. “Agnus Dei” began life as a prayer back in the 5th century before Johann Sebastian Bach arranged it as the fourth movement of “Mass in B minor”, his final masterpiece.

“It’s quite the departure”, says Morean, who the Bachfestival in Dordrecht invited for this performance. “Bach Out of Bounds is very different from what other metal bands – or even Alkaloid – normally do”.

While it stems from a place of worship that’s far removed from metal’s underground crypts, Alkaloid’s performance of “Agnus Dei” is a stroke of divine inspiration. The guitars wisely bow to the quiet command of the string section, ceding the spotlight to soprano Rianne Wilbers. Blessed with grace and gravitas, her voice transcends to a higher realm that’s not of any genre nor this Earth.

“Like all of the guests who accompanied Alkaloid for Bach Out Of Bounds, Rianne is a true wanderer between worlds”, Morean says. “After a youth in metal, she acquired an impeccable pedigree in the Netherlands as a performer of traditional and contemporary classical music. She sings ‘Agnus Dei’ so beautifully. She really knows how to sing Bach”.

The video for “Agnus Dei” was compiled from footage filmed live during performances at the 2024 Bachfestival in Dordrecht, Netherlands, Paard van Troject in The Hague and November Music in Den Bosch. It was created by Thomas Niehof / Creative Headroom & Lindy Balduk Photography.

Tracklist
1. Allegro (BWV 1052-I) (8:28)
2. Adagio – All Is Vanity (BWV 1052-II) (6:56)
3. Beneath the Sea (7:25)
4. Cthulhu (5:59)
5. Haunter of the Void (10:11) [WATCH]
6. A Fool’s Desire (8:54)
7. Agnus Dei (BWV 232) (6:24) [WATCH]
8. The Fungi from Yuggoth (7:47)

Alkaloid know no bounds. Morean, Hannes Grossmann, Linus Klausenitzer and Christian Münzner had already defied the laws of the metalverse as members of Obscura, Triptykon and Dark Fortress, but since banding together as a supergroup in 2013, they have rearranged the very composition of progressive death metal. Their three studio albums fuse everything from worldly polyrhythms and sci-fi concepts to monstrous growls, brutally technical riffs and infectious choruses.

“German collective Alkaloid bucks the trend often associated with bands fitted with the ‘supergroup’ tag”, Angry Metal Guy wrote in praise of their last LP Numen. “Alkaloid established a unique sound from the onset, their cosmic, science fiction-infused technical and progressive death metal formula featuring a futuristic, otherworldly vibe and melodic, experimental flair”.

Despite their already impressive discography, during the summer of 2024, Alkaloid conducted a boundary-pushing performance that, once and for all, proved their alchemical mastery. With their new live album Bach Out of Bounds, the band build fascinating parallels between their unmatched compositions and revered composer Johann Sebastien Bach. Joined by an award-winning ensemble of vocalists, accordion and string players, the metal maestros prove that Bach’s music is as relevant today as it’s always been by projecting his Baroque style through a lens that’s radically different – and way heavier.

Bach Out of Bounds brings three of the composer’s classics in conversation with the underground arts. “I didn’t change any notes of Bach’s scores”, Morean says, “but I took maximum liberty in how I arranged them”. Sacred aria “Agnus Dei” is performed faithfully, graced by soprano Rianne Wilbers. Of course, as metal’s mad scientists, Alkaloid inject plenty of their own virtuoso. The band’s new guitarists Max Blok and Justin Hombach shred harmoniously with violinists Julija Hartig and Oene van Geel through the monumental “Allegro”. Marieke Hopman’s mourning accordion lights the way during the slow and sorrowful procession of “Adagio – All Is Vanity”.

“The original ‘Adagio’ is super quiet and very slow. It’s a piece with just a few notes. What I did is the opposite of that”, Morean says with a pleased grin. “Our version turns it into a heavy doom metal song”.

In a feat of reverse engineering, Bach Out of Bounds also transfuses the soul of Bach into Alkaloid’s own creations. “The idea behind this performance wasn’t necessarily for us to try and write a Bach song”, Morean explains. “We wanted to use Bach’s techniques to write an Alkaloid song”. The album includes extended renditions of recent fan favorites in “A Fool’s Desire” and “The Fungi from Yuggoth”, not to mention two brand new songs. As if summoned by a siren’s call, led by Chrysa Tsaltampasi’s dreamy lilt, “Beneath the Sea” reveals itself as a speaker-shaking precursor to the band’s monster hit “Cthulhu”, whereas “Haunter of the Void” goes where no metalhead has gone before. Commissioned by the Dutch Performing Arts Fund (FPK) and written especially for this performance, the 10-minute epic follows a severed, digitized brain that’s been shot into space from a long-dead Earth. Amidst a crushing cosmic void, this spec of hope clings to life, creating a new habitat one riff at a time.

“Cell by cell starts to unfurl / And I come into my own”, Morean growls as their fresh tale swirls into a headbanging symphony.

Alkaloid performed Bach Out of Bounds during three separate shows in the Netherlands – at the Bachfestival in Dordrecht, Paard van Troject in The Hague and on November Music in Den Bosch. The performances drew people from around the world along with interest from Dutch national radio and TV. Now, fans everywhere can experience this truly one-of-a-kind performance on limited-edition CD and vinyl.

“The audience who came and saw these performances went crazy for it”, Morean remembers. “I’m so happy that we can now share them with people everywhere. People aren’t going to know what hit them. Bach Out of Bounds is very different from what other metal bands – or even Alkaloid – normally do”.

With Bach Out of Bounds, Alkaloid deliver a classically innovative performance as only a true maestro can.

TRANSATLANTIC RADIO Announce Debut Album “Midnight Transmission”, Out February 20th

Transatlantic Radio, the international AOR supergroup based in Los Angeles, are pleased to announce the release of their debut album “Midnight Transmission”, out on February 20, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl.

The band also share the first single, “Wide Awake”, along with an official video, available below. It is by far the heaviest song on the record, with lyrics about reclaiming one’s confidence after a toxic relationship. The song was written by Victor Brodén and Mattias Osbäck and it features a blazing guest guitar solo by Steve Brown (Trixter, Tokyo Motor Fist).

Victor Brodén commented: “We couldn’t be more excited for people to hear the first single, a serious swift kick to the rear in the hard rock vein with a much less serious video we had so much fun making. It shows the heavier side of the band, and it balances out other songs on our album like “Fever Dream”, which comes more from a synthwave place. We can’t wait for all AOR lovers to hear all of it!”

Pre-Order “Midnight Transmission” HERE

Brodén stated: “The completion of this album is a love letter to the music that shaped my life, musically and otherwise. The guys in this band took what was a casual idea and turned it into something beyond my wildest dreams. Mattias Osbäck is truly one of the greatest rock voices of this generation with a rough edge that brings our big, sweeping melodies to life and gives them attitude”.

“RJ Ronquillo, on lead guitar, is a legend in his own right and a role model for guitarists around the world as well as one of the world’s most watched six-string heroes with his YouTube channel”, he continued. “His work on this album makes me grin ear to ear. Chris Reeve on drums is one of the most sought-after touring drummers in the world right now, and a bass player’s dream come true. Him agreeing to join this project is still mind boggling to me. Fred Kron on keyboards, my partner in production for this project, is nothing short of a wizard. There would be no Transatlantic Radio without his invaluable input, otherworldly mixes, and his ability to sprinkle magic dust on all of these songs. This is the band I could never have imagined being in growing up, and this is the record I always dreamed of making”.

An inspired celebration of classic AOR with a fresh, modern pulse, “Midnight Transmission” marks the official album debut of Transatlantic Radio, a truly international band founded by Victor Brodén, a Swedish-born bassist and producer now based in Los Angeles.

Conceived during the isolation of the 2020 lockdown, the project was born out of a desire to bring timeless melodic rock back into the spotlight – with a lineup as global as their sound.
Fronted by powerhouse Swedish vocalist Mattias Osbäck and featuring American guitarist R.J. Ronquillo (known for his work with Ricky Martin, Santana, Stevie Wonder, and Stone Sour), the band blends European sensibility with American fire.

The lush keyboards of Fred Kron – who had his work featured in Anchorman 2 and High School Musical 2, and longtime member of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! band – add cinematic depth and vintage flair. Behind the kit is Chris Reeve, drummer for Filter and Avril Lavigne, whose dynamic style gives the album its drive and precision. At the center of it all is Brodén himself, anchoring the songs with groove, vision, and a deep understanding of the genre’s melodic soul.

Following a string of well-received singles and video releases, Transatlantic Radio made their live debut at the Malmö Melodic Festival 2024, where their sound and presence confirmed that this is more than just a studio project – it’s a band with heart, muscle, and chemistry.

Musically, “Midnight Transmission” is a love letter to the 80’s giants of the genre – Foreigner, Toto, Danger Danger, Starship – but it’s no nostalgia act. Each track balances polish with punch, fusing massive choruses, slick arrangements, and emotionally charged performances with crisp, contemporary production.

Packed with arena-ready anthems, the album showcases a band fully aware of their influences, yet unafraid to carve their own path forward. “Midnight Transmission” is more than a debut – it’s a statement: melodic rock is alive, and Transatlantic Radio is here to carry the signal.

“Midnight Transmission” Tracklist:

1.    That’s What You Get (For Falling In Love)
2.    City Of Angels
3.    Wide Awake

AOR/Melodic rockers Streetlight share today the new single, the acoustic version of “Learn To Love Again”, taken from the upcoming deluxe edition of their latest studio album “Night Vision”, available digitally on January 16th, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl.

Johannes Häger said: “Learn To Love Again (Acoustic)” offers a more intimate take on a song that has quickly become a fan favourite, and we think it suits the song perfectly”.

Pre-Order “Night Vision” (Deluxe Edition) HERE

Johannes Häger commented on the new album, by saying: “It’s been such a joy for us to record our sophomore album “Night Vision”. One could say that the stakes are higher now compared to the debut “Ignition”, but we felt there are still many untrodden paths for Streetlight, both musically but of course also career wise. We’re still looking back at the AOR heydays, but we’re not going back.”

Streetlight is an AOR/melodic rock band from Jonkoping, Sweden. The band is staying true to the genre, delivering distinctive melodies, punchy choruses and strong hooks, all in the likeness of bands like Journey, Toto and Kansas.

The debut album “Ignition” was released in 2023 by Frontiers Music, digitally and on CD. The music video of their single “Hit The Ground” has got over 140k views on YouTube. Since the release of “Ignition”, Streetlight have gained fans from over the world, and the album reviews have been stellar.

Streetlight is meant to be experienced live, and the band is taking their music on the road, playing both in clubs and on festivals, among others the Swedish AOR festival Malmö Melodic.

The music of Streetlight is melodic and guitar driven, with a sound that reminds you of the
times when AOR was at its peak. And Streetlight wants to mediate music that is fun to listen to, as well as fun to play.

The debut album showed the world that Streetlight is a band to reckon with, and with “Night Vision” they continue with their distinctive melodies and punchy choruses. The sound still has elements of the melodic rock heydays, wrapped in their own 2025 twist.

“Night Vision” – Deluxe Edition – Tracklist:

RIKET Launch New Single + Music Video for ‘1868 Sommar vid Vinterviken’

Swedish Death Metallers RIKET have launched their new single 1868 Sommar vid Vinterviken, taken from their upcoming album, 2026, out April 10th 2026 via Black Lion Records.

Tragedy at the Nobel Factory: Explosion Rocks Vinterviken Stockholm, 1868 – A devastating explosion at the Nobel factory in Vinterviken, just on the outskirts of Stockholm, has plunged the city into grief, leaving many dead and injured. The industrial site, known for its production of explosives under the direction of Alfred Nobel, became the scene of a harrowing disaster yesterday afternoon. The explosion occurred during routine operations when a mishap in the handling of volatile materials triggered a catastrophic blast. The force of the explosion was felt miles away, shattering windows and sending shockwaves through surrounding neighborhoods. Fire engulfed the factory, with plumes of smoke rising ominously over the bay. Rescue efforts commenced immediately, with workers and local residents rushing to the scene. Despite their bravery, the aftermath was grim. Authorities have confirmed the deaths of at least fourteen individuals, with many more severely injured. Eyewitnesses described scenes of utter devastation.

“The ground shook as if struck by thunder,” recounted one survivor. “When the smoke cleared, all that remained was ruin and silence.” Each track on 2026 unfolds like a bruised chapter pulled from the archives of a country wrestling with its own ghosts. The album channels these stories with unflinching intensity, merging punishing heaviness with moments of eerie restraint.

This wall of sound is not only aggressive but deeply reflective, inviting listeners, Swedish speakers, and newcomers alike to step inside a world where the past refuses to stay silent. 2026 challenges its audience to confront uncomfortable truths, both personal and societal. It doesn’t offer solace or smooth conclusions; instead, it confronts history head-on, reminding us how the choices of yesterday continue to shape the world we inhabit today. The result is an album that lingers long after the final note fades, a stark, resonant journey through memory, identity and the lingering shadows of time.

BLACK LUNG Release First Single + Visualizer ‘Traveler’ from Forthcoming Album “Forever Beyond”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on December 10, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: BLACK LUNG. Leave a comment

BLACK LUNG drop the opening track ‘Traveler‘ as the first single taken from the American heavy psych rockers’ forthcoming new full-length “Forever Beyond“. The fifth album from the Baltimore, Maryland outfit is scheduled for release on March 6, 2026, via Magnetic Eye Records.

Pre-order the album here: https://spkr.store/collections/black-lung

BLACK LUNG comment on ‘Traveler’: “This song is about relying on one’s anxiety and depression -almost like a super power“, vocalist and guitarist David Cavalier writes. “You think, its the things that are going to keep you safe and sharp. In reality, it’s the complete opposite. The song also touches on the idea of living in a blameless world. Radical acceptance of people and who they are. Musically, this is one of my favorite tracks. We made it as dynamic as possible and each section feels like its own moment.”

Tracklist:

  1. Traveler
  2. Death & Co.
  3. Savior
  4. Follow
  5. Forever Beyond Me
  6. Border Hoarder
  7. Scum

When you find yourself adrift at zero gravity with a dreamy smile on your face, you’ve probably booked a flight into space on BLACK LUNG‘s latest inter-dimensional transport “Forever Beyond”.

The veteran trio from Baltimore, Maryland have fine-tuned the recipe of their musical rocket fuel, distilled from stoner doom, psychedelic rock, and other fiery ingredients. BLACK LUNG‘s unique concoction drives every track with captivating tunes, melodic riffing, pumping rhythms, and the inimitable vocal cords of Dave Cavalier taking it home. Every single song on “Forever Beyond” hits its mark perfectly.

On their fifth album “Forever Beyond”, BLACK LUNG complete the hyper jump initiated on their fourth album “Dark Waves”, which was already venturing into new sonic galaxies. Undertones of anger and defiance manifest as many of the songs are artistic reactions to the historic political upheaval in the USA, dealing lyrically with the lure of fascism, blind nationalism, and corporate oligarchy.

BLACK LUNG came into being when two founding members of Baltimore’s well-established psych rock band THE FLYING EYES, guitarist and organ player Adam Bufano and drummer Elias Schutzman, teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Dave Cavalier in early 2014. The three set themselves apart from the crowded field of psych doom and heavy blues with a sonic interchange of fuzzed-drenched guitars, deep driving drumbeats, and Cavalier’s raw, blues-tinged vocals.

Their self-titled debut “Black Lung” appeared in 2014 and was not just celebrated locally, with the title “Best New Band” awarded by the Baltimore City Paper, but BLACK LUNG also crossed the Atlantic to embark on their first European tour. This was capped with a performance at the prestigious Rockpalast Crossroads Festival, broadcast on German national television.

BLACK LUNG released their sophomore album “See the Enemy” in 2016, building on the strengths of their debut while at times pushing into garage psych territory. The album paved the way for a headlining European tour, notably appearing at Freak Valley Festival and DesertFest Belgium.

In 2019, BLACK LUNG returned with “Ancients”. The third full-length channeled years of experience, touring, and songwriting into a more adventurous course, venturing further from familiar doom and psych rock tropes. During the pandemic years, BLACK LUNG managed to push forward with new guitarist Dave Fullerton, which resulted in fourth album “Dark Waves”. It was a milestone in the band’s career, as they abandoned some of their pet ideas such as eschewing bass guitar live in favour of guitars through bass amps, along with the black and white aesthetics that had dominated their artwork of their first three full-lengths.

BLACK LUNG are openly anti-Trump and anti-fascist to the core and make no secret of it. They have no intention to become dogmatically boring but rather aim for live performances that are both cathartic and fun.

With “Forever Beyond”, BLACK LUNG prove that it is possible to rage against injustice with an utmost joyful defiance!

ANCIENT SETTLERS Release New Live Video for ‘Die Around Me’

Ancient Settlers has released a video for “Die Around Me”, taken from the new digital EP “Autumnus (Revisited)” released on November 28 by Scarlet Records.

“Die Around Me” was recorded live at Laurus Nobilis Music Fest 2025 (Famalicão, Portugal).

video concept: G-Media

“Autumnus (Revisited)” is the first Ancient Settlers release featuring the new singers Nia Creak and Noelia Fernández Jiménez, which joined the band earlier this year and already made their live debut.

With “Autumnus (Revisited)”, Ancient Settlers return to the origins of their musical journey to forge a new chapter in modern melodic death metal. Revisiting their 2021 debut EP, the band delivers a powerful reinterpretation that transcends nostalgia and stands as a bold artistic statement – heavier, more refined, and emotionally deeper than ever.

This new edition features five tracks, framed by an instrumental acoustic intro and outro that set a dramatic atmosphere before unleashing a wave of intensity. Ancient Settlers breathe new life into three of their cornerstone songs – “A Monument Restored”, “Die Around Me” and “Diamond Eyes” – reworking them with evolved arrangements, new sonic textures, and a stronger emotional impact. These updated versions blend melodic architecture with epic tension, aggressive rhythmic drive, and a powerful vocal interplay of guttural and clean voices.

Lyrically, the EP explores themes of decay, betrayal, rebirth, and inner struggle – reflecting the band’s signature emotional weight and introspective depth. The full lyrics are included to invite listeners into the conceptual layers of the release.

Visually, “Autumnus (Revisited)” is crowned by a striking new cover artwork by Khalipse, capturing the dramatic duality of vulnerability and strength that defines the sound and spirit of the record.

More than a re-recording, “Autumnus (Revisited)” is a statement of identity – an evolution that honors Ancient Settlers’ past while powerfully asserting who they are today.
