Finnish melancholic metal band MARRASKUUN LAPSET released their first single Laatupoikkeama. The track is taken from the yet unnamed upcoming EP which is set to be released later next year via Inverse Records.
“The main reason for existence of this band is to challenge both Tero Hautamäki, (Hellyysagrrressio, Burning Mindfields, Wasteland) and Janne Partanen (Hautajaisyö, Uhriristi) to create something new while combining their musical backgrounds. The band has a solid working method where Partanen is responsible for dark lyrics and grunts while Hautamäki concentrates on composing the tracks and stringed instruments.
Laatupoikkeama tells a love story about a person who thinks he/she doesn’t deserve to be loved. Clean vocals are sung by Hanna Ingo (Wasteland, Palifornia Blaze, Puli & Veivarit). Teemu Koski (Vaasa Palaa) played the drums and recording is done by Sami Pulkkinen.
Florentine alternative metal band VIOLET BLEND have just revealed a music video for their new single “Rock DJ“, as well as announcing the availability of pre-orders for their upcoming sophomore album Demons. “Rock DJ” is the first single from the band’s new album which is set to drop worldwide on April 1, 2022. The music video was directed by Angelo Mura. Watch it right now at this location.
“Rock DJ speaks about a carefree dream where music appears only as a fun, primordial sense of joy and freedom, free from the constraints of the music business” says lead vocalist & composer Giada Celeste Chelli. “The video was shot in a real house and we set up all the scenes and instruments in every room for every shot. We had to be careful to not move objects and to keep the same position for musicians while shooting, to obtain the effect that people appeared and disappeared magically. This effect is very important for the meaning of the video. It symbolizes the struggle that everyone must go through to affirm their own identities and desires (represented by the musicians and the music), during the flow of daily life (represented by the rooms of the house and the different phases of life). Drummer Michel Agostini adds, “In the video, Giada goes through all the phases of a woman’s life while she’s trying to free herself from stereotypes and social constraints. She is living her normal life of everyday and she’s fighting for the music. During this trip called life, you may have doubts, obstacles, and defeats. You’ll have to fight for every little conquest you make, but it is worth it!”
Demons contains thirteen hauntingly glorious musical portraits that personify beauty, discontent, passion, and rage. The subject matter of the album explores the human soul by investigating its ambitions and contradictions. The album was produced by Alessandro Del Vecchio (Quiet Riot, LA Guns, Nanowar of Steel). Demons will be released worldwide via Eclipse Records on April 1, 2022. Singles from the album include the powerful debut “Rock DJ” which describes the primordial sense of joy and freedom that music transmits. “Among All These Fools” is about asking the music to guide you through some wicked people that try to surround you and prevent you from reaching your goals. The third single “Need” is about a situation of great uncertainty, where you have to decide if you should abandon the old life for a new one. The last single “La Donna Mobile” is part of a prominent social campaign to raise awareness against discrimination and gender-based violence, featuring AIDOS (Italian Association of Women for Development) and the Municipality of Florence, Italy. Altogether, Demons is an exciting record with something for everyone, from the superlative vocal to the rhythm-chops which seem to echo the true pulse of the world. Get ready to rock!
PORT NOIR return with a glorious slice of progressive dark pop/alt-rock on new single ‘All Class’ Taken from their upcoming new album, the band once again push the envelope with a track that blends the electro/rock influences of Enter Shikari with direct pop suss of recent Royal Blood. Driven by a powerful percussive backing, elevated by wonderful vocals and an unforgettable hook, ‘All Class’ is Port Noir 3.0 in technicolour perfection!
The band says: “All class” is a bold, captivating and a different kind of track that crosses a lot of genres. Unlike many of our songs this one came together quite fast and rather late in the album process, it had a vibe and feel that we just fell for instantly. We knew from the start that we wanted to have it as a single.” // Port Noir
Port Noir is one of those rare bands that, try as you might, are impossible to fit into a neat box. Mixing edgy, contemporary dark pop, R&B, and rock into a sound that is both unique and refreshing. Hailing from Sweden, the band have released three critically acclaimed albums (the brand-new album is imminent) and toured extensively, including support shows with the likes of Karnivool, Leprous, Kaiser Chiefs, In Flames, Vola, Pain of Salvation, as well as prestigious festival appearances including Eurosonic ESNS.
The band’s previous album (‘The New Routine’) saw a significant increase in listeners/streams, pushing the band’s support of over 7 million streams, as well as garnering fantastic support across the press and radio. They have been reviewed by Distorted Sound Magazine, Lounder Sound, Gaffa, Metal.de, Everything is Noise, Time For Metal, World of Metal to name a few. Like everyone else, everything came to grinding halt with Covid for the band, but, undeterred, they utilized their down time and began working on new songs and new ideas, all which culminated in some of the band’s most diverse, eclectic, and powerful new material to date. As you’ll witness when the new album arrives in 2022.

About four years ago, the paths of Behemoth mastermind Adam Nergal Darski and guitarist & rock musician John Porter fatefully crossed. In great contrast to his previous career, Nergal joined forces with Porter to bring a whole new project to life: ME AND THAT MAN. After the first album, the two founding fathers parted ways, and Nergal went on to continue ME AND THAT MAN as a solo project featuring various prominent guest artists.
Only a few days after the release of the new ME AND THAT MAN album, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2 – and an incredible four years since the duo released their last track together – a brand new, standalone ME AND THAT MAN single, “Fight”, has surfaced featuring the nostalgic vocal contributions of John Porter!
Right from the very beginning, “Fight” takes no detours and promises groovy melodies, deep basslines, dirty guitars and snare hits that shoot straight into the listener’s mind. The spotlight shines on John Porter’s raspy, spitting lead vocals that summon up the old spirits of ME AND THAT MAN‘s origins. Both new fans and especially those who have been following along from the beginning can look forward to this collaboration!
Nergal on the collaboration: “FIGHT”! Is a last minute endeavour ME AND THAT MAN committed with John Porter. This spontaneous collaboration was a reaction to the great vibes that were shared during our recent tour in Poland. While the lyrics themselves may not be positive and vital it captures John’s frustration towards all the bullshit we, the human race have been fed in the recent decade… It’s a straight up protest song! I love it!”

Adam Nergal Darski recently returned with dark folk/blues/Americana influenced solo project ME AND THAT MAN’s third full-length studio album, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2. After the enticing debut, Songs of Love And Death (2017), and sophomore release, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.1, its sequel once again mirrors Nergal in a completely different light and provides a tremendous contrast to the extreme metal sounds of Behemoth.
Following the chart-topping part one of the album, ME AND THAT MAN now present whole new facets: Opening track “Black Hearse Cadillac”, featuring the vocals of Hank von Hell and guitar sorcery by Anders Odden, marks a sinister beginning to this infernal journey through dark desert soundscapes and evil lyricism. Driving “Under The Spell” (feat. Mary Goore) lives up to its title, at times evoking a spaghetti western-esque ambience. Songs like wicked “Witches Don’t Fall in Love” (feat. Kristoffer Rygg/Ulver), straight-to-the-head rocking “Blues & Cocaine” (feat. Michale Graves) and mysterious “Goodbye” – with a haunting yet powerful vocal attack by Alissa White-Gluz – showcase the record’s extensive variety and that there’s something unexpected lurking all throughout. This is further evident on songs like the soulful blues-rock ballad “Angel of Light” featuring the compelling voice of Myrkur, or insanely dynamic, uptempo outburst of “Got Your Tongue” feat. Chris Georgiadis (Turbowolf).
