SILENT SKIES Announce New Album “Nectar”, Out February 4th

Swedish-American ambient duo SILENT SKIES drifts off into Scandinavian melancholy and cinematic soundscapes with the release of their luminescent label debut, Nectar, out February 4, 2022 via Napalm Records. In 2017, the paths of the Swedish progressive band EVERGREY’s vocalist Tom S. Englund and multi-instrumentalist Vikram Shankar crossed fatefully. Both artists set themselves free from limitations to captivate their listener with a soulful ten-track offering, produced by Englund and Shankar themselves and mixed/mastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios.

Infinite, heartfelt Nectar enchants with sounds like pure poetry lifting off the page and wrapping around its listener with a gentle glow as it combines the reminiscence of the likes of producers and composers such as Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm and Ludovico Einaudi, and bands ranging from Sigur Rós to Anathema. The balance between haunting instrumentals and vocal intensity that complement each other in perfect harmony walks a delicate line where listeners are treated to the best of both worlds.

With the release of their first single, “Taper“, SILENT SKIES present an intense composition that blends a unique, charismatic voice and strong melodic sensibility into a profound musical soundscape resembling film music, alongside a captivating music video. “Taper” evokes both a tender embrace and isolation, with the duo’s intertwined melodies standing strong against the setting sun of a human’s broken heart.

SILENT SKIES on “Taper”:
“Come take a step into the universe of Nectar with ‘Taper’ – a universal statement on the journey of the human experience through time. This is one of our favorites on the album, so allow yourself to get lost in our world as you have a first taste of Nectar.“

Watch the new music video for “Taper” HERE:

With Gothenburg’s EVERGREY known as one of the most prolific bands in progressive metal, Englund is by far no stranger to the scene. After partnering with North Carolina, USA-based piano player Vikram Shankar – who had already worked with greats like Anneke van Giersbergen – this fateful encounter, now known as SILENT SKIES, set its first milestone with the release of their spine-tingling debut Satellites back in 2020. Two years later, this fruitful collaboration returns with Nectar, marking the sequel of something that’s far more than just a side project of Englund’s. Rather, it’s the brainchild of two highly talented individual artists with deep knowledge and many years of experience, whose creativity and spirit culminates in an exceptional form of musical expression. Shankar’s sensitive yet intense piano tunes merge with the poignant vocal interpretation of Tom S. Englund to take the listener on a touching, melancholic ride that wanders through the darkest facets of life, while always leaving a spark of hope to hold on to. This otherworldly sonic collaboration is graced by the outstanding contributions of Leprous‘ cello player Raphael Weinroth-Browne, who appears on nearly every track of the album to spice up the stirring sound even more.

SILENT SKIES’ sophomore full-length sets off with the soulful, ethereal “Fallen From Heart”, immediately creating a tapestry of sound to get lost in. Tracks like delicate “Taper” and shimmering “Neverending” are dominated by the yearning vocals of Englund, but never fail to give Shankar’s instrumental virtuosity the well-deserved space to shine bright like the first sunray welcoming the day. Beautifully honest “Let It Hurt” addicts with its remarkable chorus hitting on point, blending cinematic strings and piano with hooky modern vocals. Darker realms lure with heart-breaking “Leaving”, combining gloomy ambient and infectious pop influences, and dramatically accented, heart-beating “Cold”, with its lingering electronic elements that build a tangible, gripping maelstrom of emotions. Instrumental title track “Nectar” closes this new chapter of SILENT SKIES but leaves its audience with a long-lasting impact and the key to a door that’s worth entering over and over again.

SILENT SKIES on the new album:
“We are tremendously proud to announce our second record, Nectar, will be released on February 4th, 2022. Nectar represents an expansion and an elevation of all things that make us who we are; simultaneously grander and more intimate, more futuristic yet more organic and thoughtful. This record represents who we are, and it means so much to both of us, that we cannot wait for you to experience it.”

Drummer Ali Richardson about the signing:
“I’m happy to finally announce that Bleed From Within have signed to Nuclear Blast Records. Their enthusiasm was obvious from our first conversation back in 2020 but as negotiations continued, the team proved that they possess the passion, drive and knowledge to take this band to the next level. It’s also an honour to join such a prolific roster – something that we do not take lightly. I Am Damnation is the first step in a new chapter for us; a sonic development and a true taste of the music that has still to come as part of this new deal. “After numerous meetings with the band and discussing everything they’d like to achieve over the next stage of their career, it was immediately apparent that there was a huge synergy and ambition from all parties involved.
Bleed From Within is the absolute embodiment of what a modern Metal band should be and I am positively elated to welcome the guys to the NB family and work directly with them in the years ahead. LFG.”

After recently revealing “Balboa”, the first single since their break-through performance at the Eurovision song contest, Finland´s hottest rock act impresses with yet another striking single.

The band comments:

“After our recent breakthrough, we faced a lot of demands from the music industry, the people around us and even from the government. All eyes on us, and not everybody’s happy with us shaking cages – musically or otherwise. Some people want us to be something we’re not in order to fit the concept of role models – national heroes. This song is our answer to those demands. We are a lot of things, but we are no saints.”

Accompanied by another stunning music video produced by No-Office films, “We Are No Saints” is another impressive step in the triumphant progress of Blind Channel and their very own brand of violent pop.

WILDERUN Release Music Video for New Single ‘Distraction I’

Boston-bred aural imaginauts WILDERUN have released a brand new single, titled “Distraction I”, from their upcoming studio album. The new track is the second single off the band’s fourth studio full-length, ‘Epigone’, which will see a January 7th, 2022 release via Century Media ! To promote the new single, Wilderun have unveiled an immersive 3D video directed by Miles Skarin and visuals inspired by ‘Epigone’ album cover artist Kim Keever.

“Distraction I is the first movement in the 4-part suite that closes the album. Musically, Distraction I is far more straightforward than a typical Wilderun song and relies more heavily on atmosphere as a means of creating momentum throughout the track. It also is one of the more synth-heavy tracks on the record, utilizing dense tapestries of largely atonal sounds to develop a unique sonic space that is both surreal and expansive. It is the calm before the storm and the sign of things to come.” – Dan

PRE-ORDER ‘Epigone’ HERE

About Wilderun’s ‘Epigone’:

On Epigone , Boston-bred aural imaginauts WILDERUN take a deeper and darker step beyond their expansive, prog-leaning metal scores that so skillfully came together on 2019’s Veil of Imagination. The result is a record that is at once grandiose, complex, sophisticated, and unexpectedly human. “This is certainly a “meta” record for me,” states guitarist and vocalist Evan Berry. “It’s the record that has the most to do with the artistic process.” Indeed, the nine-track-long offering: beginning with the haunting acoustic prelude, “Exhaler” and ending with a twenty-minute, four-part epic composition, “Distraction I-IV”, Epigone is nothing short of a journey into expression and ambition. It has all the earmarks that have made WILDERUN a revelation unto themselves.

“This record has a different kind of inner turmoil than Veil,” says bassist and composer Dan Muller. “So much of that album was focused on the past and reminiscing on the progression from childhood to adulthood, and had a brighter, more flowery texture to it. This one is darker, and to me feels more introspective.” Admittedly, the universal pause and the frustration that came with the onset of a global pandemic of 2020 weighed heavily on the writing. “It was a frustrating time,” says Dan. “Things were starting to move in a direction that we had wanted them to for a while. We had signed to Century Media and were playing bigger shows like the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. Then, suddenly, it felt like everything was ripped away from us. For me, that made it the hardest record we’ve ever had to write.”

Berry describes the arrangement process for Epigone as “solitary”, largely due to the Covid-restricted universe the band found itself in. Ideas were shuttled back and forth between members, and the band frustratingly never had the opportunity to meet as a whole before tracking commenced in early 2021.  And with traveling being too risky at the time, Wayne had to do all of his recording and orchestrating out of his home studio in California, while the rest of the band tracked in Syracuse, NY. In spite of that isolation, tracks like the driving “Passenger” speak volumes of WILDERUN’s increasingly canny sonic reach as soaring, cinematic orchestrations flirt with Berry’s death metalized inclinations. According to Berry, even WILDERUN’s flawlessly integrated orchestrations were pushed in new directions. Guitarist and composer Wayne Ingram (who has worked for noted film composer Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers Company) focused on innovative and challenging compositions while Muller pushed his synth work to create a sense of atmosphere the band’s prior work only hinted at. The album’s mix by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Arch Enemy) sets the album’s standard to masterpiece proportions.

“There’s always a deep appreciation for the vibe and the atmosphere of folk and the heaviness of metal,” says Dan, “I think for us it comes down to this organic, esoteric atmosphere that incorporates a lot of different things.” That aesthetic is most pronounced when it comes to some of the album’s actual instrumentation. “This is probably the biggest number of folk instruments we’ve ever had on a record,” notes Dan.  “Sometimes it’s prominent. Sometimes it’s layered. There’s fewer keys and more acoustic passages. It’s a little more earthy and a little less theater.”

When it comes to scoring soundtracks for the theater of the mind, WILDERUN isn’t merely pushing boundaries, they’re writing sublime symphonies and setting the standard in the process. “At its core, WILDERUN is escapist, transformative,” says Dan. “Our criteria is very simple: As a listener, does it put me in a place that’s better than where I am now? Even though the music and lyrics are very introspective, this could be anyone’s story.”

WALTARI Release New Single And Video ‘Helsinki 2021’ Feat. APRIL ART

Finnish crossover pioneers WALTARI today release “Helsinki 2021” feat. APRIL ART, the next single from their anniversary album “3rd Decade – Anniversary Edition”, which will be released on 26 November via Metalville Records.

Kärtsy Hatakka about the new version of the WALTARI classic:

“Helsinki has been our most famous song on Spotify. It’s a kind of “love song” about Waltaris headquarter in Finland, filled with romantic phrases in Finnish about the local atmosphere (“Atmosfear”). The German April Art wanted to create their vision about the song and we helped with the basic tracks and the basic programming. Very notable is the awesome vocal performance by Lisa-Marie, also her Finnish!”

April Art comments:

“We were super excited when being asked by Waltari to contribute to this album… Frankly, there’s very little opportunities (maybe none?) to ever work with the Finnish genre pioneers, so we took the chance the minute we could. Once we chose “Helsinki” as the song, it was quite a challenge for Lisa to sing in Finnish for her very first time. Still – it was super fun to do this production and we are proud to be a part of this anniversary album!”

“3rd Decade – Anniversary Edition” will be available from these suppliers: https://waltari.lnk.to/3rdDecadeAnniversaryEdition
