THE OCEAN Release New Live Video ‘Eocene’

THE OCEAN have released the third video from their upcoming live album Phanerozoic Live (November 26th). The live album is a showcase of two live events performed by THE OCEAN – Live In Bremen (Part I) and Live At Roadburn Redux (Part II), and will be released by Metal Blade Records digitally worldwide. Fans eager for physical copies can pre-order the album in various formats at Pelagic Records.

Watch “Eocene” Now:

The band recently release a pair of live clips, “Jurassic / Cretaceous” (Live at Roadburn) and “Devonian” (Live in Bremen), as featured on the album as the first taste from Phanerozoic Live.

In early 2021 with no end of lockdowns in sight, THE OCEAN decided to thank their fans for the support with two streaming concerts, performing both Phanerozoic albums in their entirety: Phanerozoic I was streamed live from Pier 2, a big hall in the port of Bremen, Germany on March 25, 2021. With more than 1,500 tickets sold, it was the most successful show of the popular “Club 100” streaming events series thus far.

The day after this event, the band rehearsed and recorded Phanerozoic II in its entirety. This performance aired on April 16th as part of the digital edition of Roadburn Festival (this year aptly named Roadburn Redux). Both shows couldn’t have been more different: where the first part boasts with a pompous, mesmerizing lighting production on a big stage, the second part is quite the opposite: intimate, almost cozy, focused on musicianship rather than performance. “We wanted to give people two totally different experiences“, says band leader Robin Staps. “In Bremen, we had the chance to record a proper live show, the way people know us. We played facing towards the front of the stage, to an invisible crowd, essentially to a huge empty room… but we knew people were watching, even if we didn’t see them. There was the same rush of adrenaline right before going on stage as you get before going on any stage, maybe with a little extra anxiety added, because knowing that so many people are watching you without being able to see them yourself was super weird.“

The fans response to these special events was another testimony to how much THE OCEAN connect with their crowd at home in this very intense way was an experience that was “oddly beautiful and frustrating in equal measure,” according to Staps. Now as restrictions begin to lift worldwide, THE OCEAN are more than ready to show fans in-person the power of Phanerozoic Live, with select shows starting this January.

Heavy, groovy, and always melodic is how we know the sound of Halcyon Days. The aggressive attitude of their sound takes the best out of metalcore’s breakdown affinity and atmospheric layers that might remind you of genre leaders like Architects, While She Sleeps, and Our Hollow, Our Home!

Based out of Oslo, Norway, Halcyon Days have released two EP’s, and two albums since their beginning in 2012.
Their debut album ‘.ELEVATE’ was frequently playlisted and recommended on Norway’s national radio, NRK P3. Two years after their debut album, they released their self-titled EP in 2016, scoring more than 350k total streams on digital platforms.

The EP was met with an amazing response worldwide, putting the band on the map outside of Norway. The band signed with Indie Recordings and released their second full-length album, with the title “Rain Soaked Pavements & Fresh Cut Grass” June 15 2018. Metal Trenches (US) stated that the album is “one of the better metalcore releases of the year”, while PureGrainAudio (CAN) defined it as “a superb example of melodic metal/hardcore.”

The release hit 1 Million streams on Spotify and landed the band their first big shows outside of Norway at festivals like Summer Breeze Open Air, Reeperbahn Festival and High Five Summerfest. The band have been working with legendary names in Metal as Daniel Bergstrand, Fredrik Thordendal and Henrik Udd for their  third full-length album – “Keep Myself From Sinking” out now via Indie Recordings.

SOCIAL DISORDER Share Brand New Lyric Video ‘Raise A Glass’

This summer – June 18, 2021 – seen Anders “LA” Rönnblom, best known as the founder / songwriter for Killer Bee, X-Romance and a member of Wolfpakk, introduce his new solo- project SOCIAL DISORDER with the release of its critically acclaimed debut, Love 2 Be Hated, through AFM Records.

Call it a labour of love, as on the album Rönnblom has opened up his heart and soul: Love 2 Be Hated takes the listener on a journey through his life, a battle with alcoholism, personal demons, and his way out of it, all set to a backdrop of music inspired by his earliest influences.

But Rönnblom didn’t take this journey on his own, however, chosing to enlist the help of a who’s-who of rock and metal greats, many of whom he has a personal connection to including Tracii Guns (Guns ‘n’ Roses, L.A. Guns), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake), Jeff Duncan (Armored Saint), Dave Stone (Rainbow), Snowy Shaw (King Diamond, Dream Evil, Mercyful Fate), Shawn Duncan (DC4) and Leif Ehlin (Perfect Plan). SOCIAL DISORDER‘s voice is provided by Thomas Nordin, a previously undiscovered Swedish singer who delivers Rönnblom’s songs with power and grit that perfectly captures the era of classic no-nonsense rock!

In support of Love 2 Be Hated, which was lauded by both fans and the international music press alike, today SOCIAL DISORDER shared a brand new lyric video for “Raise A Glass”! Says Rönnblom: “A celebration to life.. a salute to your loved ones so RAISE A GLASS and live your life to the fullest!”

Add the song to your playlists via your favorite digital platform at THIS LOCATION – and Raise A Glass while checking out the new video clip right here:

Love 2 Be Hated was produced by Anders LA Rönnblom and mixed by Mårten Eriksson at Fanclub Production in Stockholm, Sweden. The album was mastered by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers Audio Mastering in Finland (Rammstein, Entombed, Volbeat, Amaranthe).

According to Rönnblom, SOCIAL DISORDER was never planned to be what it turned out to be. As he got deeper into the songwriting he contacted Tracii Guns, Rudy Sarzo and Killer Bee bandmate Shawn Duncan about taking part in the recordings. Even though they are his songs and it’s his story, Love 2 Be Hated is a team effort, with everyone involved adding their own touch and spice to the songs. In fact, it was important for Rönnblom that everyone involved put themselves into each song.

While Rönnblom also wrote the lyrics to capture the events of his life in music, Love 2 Be Hated is not and should not be regarded as a concept album. The goal was to have his story touch people and give the listener something they can relate to.

“The lyrics are open to interpretation,” Rönnblom recently stated. “This is my story, sure, but if that story draws people in and makes them say ‘Hey, this could be me…’ and they take away something inspirational or positive from these songs I couldn’t be happier.”

Love 2 Be Hated is out on AFM Records, and belongs into every well-sorted classic and hard rock record collection, get your album copy at THIS LOCATION!

Progressive rock legend CYNIC will be releasing highly anticipated new full-length ‘Ascension Codes’ November 26 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing the brand new single, “In a Multiverse Where Atoms Sing.” The song is available in the form of a drum-playthrough performed by Matt Lynch! The song and video can be found at THIS LOCATION.

“In a Multiverse Where Atoms Sing” can be pre-saved to streaming services HERE.

Cynic’s Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work, and if nothing else, a clear indication that they have landed in a place of mastery. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. The band has recently released the mind-bending first single, “Mythical Serpents,” which can be heard at THIS LOCATION.

Pre-orders for ‘Ascension Codes’ are now live at the Season of Mist E-Shop, the CYNIC Bandcamp, and official CYNIC shop.

Masvidal recently shared a touching tribute to late bassist Sean Malone, who died on December 7, 2020. To commemorate Malone’s legacy, CYNIC has released a never-before-heard recorded performance of the song “Integral,” in which Malone performs fretless bass.  “Integral” was originally released as a solo guitar and vocal track on Cynic’s ‘Re-Traced’ EP. The emotional tribute can be found at THIS LOCATION.
As an act of support, CYNIC is inviting fans to donate as you wish for the “Integral” song download, which comes with a guitar/bass transcription of the song and an instrumental (no bass mix) to play along with. 50 percent of proceeds will be shared with suicide prevention organizations: To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) and The Trevor Project. The remaining will go towards funding a documentary about the lives and artistry of Sean Malone and Sean Reinert.

THE GOODBYE SUMMER Release ‘Rocket’ Lyric Video

Canadian Pop-punk band THE GOODBYE SUMMER release their new lyric video for “Rocket” and premiere via Ghost Cult Magazine! The video can be viewed here.

The Goodbye Summer adds – “Rocket is the last song on The Goodbye Summer’s Self Titled Album and is about coming to the realization that it is up to you to take control of your life in order to chase your dreams. Even if it means leaving everything behind. ”

The video has also been released on the band’s Youtube channel and can be found here:

A place can carry memory, visceral reactions that evoke a sense of time and space. Like ghosts in the fog or passing ships in the night, returning to an area with an emotional connection retracts a long veiled tether between the self and a former life.

That is the case with Kentville, Nova Scotia’s The Goodbye Summer and their debut self-titled album, a love-letter to home, and a kaleidoscope of emotions that come with leaving it.

Founded by band architect and vocalist/guitarist Daniel Hornell – with self-described drum nerd Alex Heibein and wildly adaptable bassist Brad Dodge – The Goodbye Summer are a genre hybrid that serve as a loving throwback to the turn of the century changes in pop-punk and the rise in emo in the mid 2000s.

Tips of the proverbial hat to trend-setters Blink 182, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, New found Glory and Ten Second Epic can be found across the ten-song debut LP.

Formerly of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador, Hornell’s love of music came fast and furious from a young age from the moment he picked up an electric guitar at the age of 12. He’s been the driving force of bands and musical projects across Atlantic Canada ranging from pop punk, to techno and screamo. But in 2020 Hornell decided that it was time to cement his own path, without limitations.

“When I first landed here back in 2011, it was all about deejay, techno and rap. I was doing that for artists and rappers in the area and eventually did a bit of my own. But it just wasn’t my vibe,” he recalled. “It came to the point where it was like, OK, I’ve been writing songs for 15 years. I’ve got all these songs and they all had this leaving home, crying about girls vibe. I’m going to package this. I’m going to make this my band.”

Recruiting London, Ontario native Alex Heibein and former session-mate Brad Dodge, Hornell carved out the bones of what would become the debut LP of The Goodbye Summer, a concept record of sorts reflecting the emotional highs and lows that came from leaving his home province a decade prior.

“We made The Goodbye Summer, which is all about the summer I left home from Newfoundland and the emotions in that. That longing of wanting to be back home. And it had a lot of emo vibes and a real good source of lyrics for the album and for the band. I’ve got a fountain of this. There’s going to be more longing for home songs.”

Not content to ride out the COVID-19 pandemic resting on the laurels of their critically praised debut, the trio quickly set to work releasing, as Hornell put it, a “rough and ready” EP Sad Boy Buzz Words, mere months after the release of their debut LP.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by the trio, the EP presents a live off the floor quality, and a renewed grit and bite to the band, trading in some of the melancholy of their self-titled for the sweat infused hysteria of their live performance.

“We were so dragged out by the end of that first record, it took so long to do it, that with the Sad Boys record we just said f**k it. I’m going to show up at seven o’clock and by midnight the song is completely recorded and done. I think you can really hear that on the EP. It’s live off the floor. It’s kind of sketchy and it lands.”

Fast, raw and full of heart, Sad Boy Buzz Words is the perfect compliment to the introspective journey of their sad-boy-summer debut, though a return to those roots and tug-on-the-heartstrings youth in revolt angst could be in order in 2022.

“While we were doing Sad Boys we also recorded an acoustic EP with all new songs, five songs. And LP two is totally in the works,” Hornell teased, sharing that the TBA record has ’10-12 songs’ which are ‘pretty much ready to go.’

“If that first one’s a concept album, this one is an extension of it reflecting back. I think we’re going to try to do it more like Sad Boys, with that rough and ready energy in there. That’s definitely what we’re going for. It’s fast, angry letters to your high school girlfriend.”

Pop-punk fans won’t be saying that long farewell to The Goodbye Summer anytime soon.
