The violent pop is back on track! Finland´s hottest rock act BLIND CHANNEL share their highly anticipated new single “We Are No Saints”. After recently revealing “Balboa”, the first single since their break-through performance at the Eurovision song contest, Finland´s hottest rock act impresses with yet another striking single.

The band comments:

“After our recent breakthrough, we faced a lot of demands from the music industry, the people around us and even from the government. All eyes on us, and not everybody’s happy with us shaking cages – musically or otherwise. Some people want us to be something we’re not in order to fit the concept of role models – national heroes. This song is our answer to those demands. We are a lot of things, but we are no saints.”

Accompanied by another stunning music video produced by No-Office films, “We Are No Saints” is another impressive step in the triumphant progress of Blind Channel and their very own brand of violent pop.

Make sure to check out “We Are No Saints” and join the exclusive video premiere at 7PM CET/1PM ET HERE

The band also confirmed that they are going to share the stage with German metalcore band ESKIMO CALLBOY and join their 2022 Hypa Hypa tour. Get your tickets HERE

WILDERUN Release Music Video for New Single ‘Distraction I’

Boston-bred aural imaginauts WILDERUN have released a brand new single, titled “Distraction I”, from their upcoming studio album. The new track is the second single off the band’s fourth studio full-length, ‘Epigone’, which will see a January 7th, 2022 release via Century Media ! To promote the new single, Wilderun have unveiled an immersive 3D video directed by Miles Skarin and visuals inspired by ‘Epigone’ album cover artist Kim Keever.

“Distraction I is the first movement in the 4-part suite that closes the album. Musically, Distraction I is far more straightforward than a typical Wilderun song and relies more heavily on atmosphere as a means of creating momentum throughout the track. It also is one of the more synth-heavy tracks on the record, utilizing dense tapestries of largely atonal sounds to develop a unique sonic space that is both surreal and expansive. It is the calm before the storm and the sign of things to come.” – Dan

About Wilderun’s ‘Epigone’:

On Epigone , Boston-bred aural imaginauts WILDERUN take a deeper and darker step beyond their expansive, prog-leaning metal scores that so skillfully came together on 2019’s Veil of Imagination. The result is a record that is at once grandiose, complex, sophisticated, and unexpectedly human. “This is certainly a “meta” record for me,” states guitarist and vocalist Evan Berry. “It’s the record that has the most to do with the artistic process.” Indeed, the nine-track-long offering: beginning with the haunting acoustic prelude, “Exhaler” and ending with a twenty-minute, four-part epic composition, “Distraction I-IV”, Epigone is nothing short of a journey into expression and ambition. It has all the earmarks that have made WILDERUN a revelation unto themselves.

“This record has a different kind of inner turmoil than Veil,” says bassist and composer Dan Muller. “So much of that album was focused on the past and reminiscing on the progression from childhood to adulthood, and had a brighter, more flowery texture to it. This one is darker, and to me feels more introspective.” Admittedly, the universal pause and the frustration that came with the onset of a global pandemic of 2020 weighed heavily on the writing. “It was a frustrating time,” says Dan. “Things were starting to move in a direction that we had wanted them to for a while. We had signed to Century Media and were playing bigger shows like the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. Then, suddenly, it felt like everything was ripped away from us. For me, that made it the hardest record we’ve ever had to write.”

Berry describes the arrangement process for Epigone as “solitary”, largely due to the Covid-restricted universe the band found itself in. Ideas were shuttled back and forth between members, and the band frustratingly never had the opportunity to meet as a whole before tracking commenced in early 2021.  And with traveling being too risky at the time, Wayne had to do all of his recording and orchestrating out of his home studio in California, while the rest of the band tracked in Syracuse, NY. In spite of that isolation, tracks like the driving “Passenger” speak volumes of WILDERUN’s increasingly canny sonic reach as soaring, cinematic orchestrations flirt with Berry’s death metalized inclinations. According to Berry, even WILDERUN’s flawlessly integrated orchestrations were pushed in new directions. Guitarist and composer Wayne Ingram (who has worked for noted film composer Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers Company) focused on innovative and challenging compositions while Muller pushed his synth work to create a sense of atmosphere the band’s prior work only hinted at. The album’s mix by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Arch Enemy) sets the album’s standard to masterpiece proportions.

“There’s always a deep appreciation for the vibe and the atmosphere of folk and the heaviness of metal,” says Dan, “I think for us it comes down to this organic, esoteric atmosphere that incorporates a lot of different things.” That aesthetic is most pronounced when it comes to some of the album’s actual instrumentation. “This is probably the biggest number of folk instruments we’ve ever had on a record,” notes Dan.  “Sometimes it’s prominent. Sometimes it’s layered. There’s fewer keys and more acoustic passages. It’s a little more earthy and a little less theater.”

When it comes to scoring soundtracks for the theater of the mind, WILDERUN isn’t merely pushing boundaries, they’re writing sublime symphonies and setting the standard in the process. “At its core, WILDERUN is escapist, transformative,” says Dan. “Our criteria is very simple: As a listener, does it put me in a place that’s better than where I am now? Even though the music and lyrics are very introspective, this could be anyone’s story.”

WALTARI Release New Single And Video ‘Helsinki 2021’ Feat. APRIL ART

Finnish crossover pioneers WALTARI today release “Helsinki 2021” feat. APRIL ART, the next single from their anniversary album “3rd Decade – Anniversary Edition”, which will be released on 26 November via Metalville Records.

Kärtsy Hatakka about the new version of the WALTARI classic:

“Helsinki has been our most famous song on Spotify. It’s a kind of “love song” about Waltaris headquarter in Finland, filled with romantic phrases in Finnish about the local atmosphere (“Atmosfear”). The German April Art wanted to create their vision about the song and we helped with the basic tracks and the basic programming. Very notable is the awesome vocal performance by Lisa-Marie, also her Finnish!”

April Art comments:

“We were super excited when being asked by Waltari to contribute to this album… Frankly, there’s very little opportunities (maybe none?) to ever work with the Finnish genre pioneers, so we took the chance the minute we could. Once we chose “Helsinki” as the song, it was quite a challenge for Lisa to sing in Finnish for her very first time. Still – it was super fun to do this production and we are proud to be a part of this anniversary album!”

PAUL GILBERT Releases New Single ‘I Saw Three Ships’ from Upcoming Christmas Album

PAUL GILBERT has released a new single ‘I Saw Three Ships’ from his upcoming Christmas album ‘Twas’, coming out November 26th via The Players Club/Mascot Label Group.

Paul Gilbert:
“It was 104°F in Portland, Oregon, on August 12th, when the band and I recorded “I Saw Three Ships.” I was trying to get extra sounds from my A/DA Flanger by attaching a foot-operated, mechanical knob-turning device. But the device kept coming loose, and I kept getting angrier and angrier at it. I finally decided to give up on the knob-turning, and convert my frustration into pure guitar playing energy. The result was a slightly worried band, subtle flanging, and a good take! Thanks to Nat King Cole and George Thorogood for the arrangement inspiration. And thanks to England for the song.”

Check out I Saw Three Ships here:

Just recently, Paul Gilbert and The Players Club / Mascot Label Group have announced the release of a new seasonal offering titled ‘TWAS. Gilbert’s 17th solo album features a dozen recordings, two of which are new, original compositions. The global release date for digital and CD is November 26. The LP will follow on December 10.

The track listing features “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!,” “Frosty The Snowman,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “The Christmas Song,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “I Saw Three Ships,” “Every Christmas Has Love” (original), “Three Stings For Christmas” (original), “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” and “Winter Wonderland.” On the Japanese release of TWAS, there will be a bonus track titled “Down the Chimney Blues” (original).

Gilbert offers, “Ten of the songs are classics. I was inspired by the Christmas recordings of Nat King Cole, Loretta Lynn, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Ella Fitzgerald, and The Ventures. And of course, inspiration came from my guitar heroes, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Lifeson, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, Frank Marino, Pat Travers, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page, to name a few. I also wrote some of my own new Christmas songs. As I have been doing recently, I begin with lyrics and a melody. Then I let my guitar take over, as it sings better than I do.”

Track list
1 Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
2 Frosty the Snowman
3 Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
4 The Christmas Song
5 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
6 I Saw Three Ships
7 Every Christmas Has Love
8 Three Strings for Christmas
9 Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
10 We Wish You a Merry Christmas
11 Silver Bells
12 Winter Wonderland

Norwegian Alternative Folk Outfit GÅTE Release Captivating New Single & Music Video ‘Svik’

Norwegian alternative folk outfit GÅTE release their new single and music video “Svik” today! Listen to the single here https://orcd.co/svik, or watch the music video HERE!

“Svik” is a beautiful and bold tune that features Gåte at their boldest and most daring, unafraid to play with tempo, composition, and expression. The result is one hell of a track that ties all of Gåte’s strengths into one uncompromising tune. It is the story of a man, who tormented by his past becomes his own worst enemy. Of how the intoxicating path of revenge often leads to the devastating ruins of remorse, of how our anxieties and traumas hunt us, and in many ways also shape who we are.

The music video following the single is directed by Gunnhild Sundli herself. As she states: “Through the work with the music video, I have been able to give life to the atmosphere and the images I have in my head when I sing ‘Svik'”.

The music video for “Svik” has been exclusively premiered via Metal Hammer UK!

“Svik”
is the second single off their upcoming album “Nord”, to be released on Dec 3 via Indie Recordings.

“Nord” is the full-length follow up of their critically acclaimed EP Til Nord (April 2021) and marks the conclusion of Gåte as an acoustic outfit. On “Nord”, the band has really taken a step back to fully explore their musical potential and expression through a more traditional and acoustic perspective. And though there definitely is something simple and clean about Nord, the power in the courageously heartfelt, raw, and epic soundscape Gåte manages to create seems even more present and complex than ever before.

Nord will be released through Indie Recordings December 3rd 2021.

Gåte had a national breakthrough in the early 2000s with their captivating performances and groundbreaking mix of traditional folk and modern rock. With an immense respect for folk music and unparalleled talent, Gåte managed to interpret and convey traditional folk songs to a whole new generation of listeners. In 2020, the band chose to go back to their roots and dive into the vast traditional music history Norway has to offer. The result is painstakingly beautiful and emotive collection of songs delving deep into the musical past of their country, with a contemporary approach.

Proving yet again that great music and great art endures.

Gunnhild Sundli: Vocals and violin
Magnus Børmark: Guitar, vocals, percussion
