Columbus, Ohio, Alt Rock band, AEIR, have signed on to Stephen Perkins’ (Janes Addiction) label Perkins Palace Records. The band released their new single “SMOKE ‘EM IF YOU GOT ‘EM” to all major platforms today.
“I spent 18 months looking for the right band. The first time I heard the band I wanted to know their story and let the world hear their story and their music. I am excited to tell the world about the band” says Stephen Perkins.
“We wrote ‘Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em’ during the midst of the pandemic. The song is a take on the smoking guns of American politics; big pharma, the oil industries and big corporations, as well as the collective feeling of defeat experienced by a majority of Americans at the time. We shot the video with Paul Cunningham at the Ohio HD location, tracked it with Jacob Mooney and had it mastered with Mazen Murrat. All with the intent of capturing the angst of the climate at the time and also the raw energy of our live set. We are all super happy with its outcome,” says the band.

AEIR is made up of three local Columbus, Ohio, bands; Coya Hill, The Turbos and Personal Public . Before COVID-19 hit, the drummer and singer of The Turbos toured 160 self-booked shows in 2019. When the pandemic hit, The Turbos and friends Coya Hill and Personal Public came to an end, but the bands were still able to connect and form something great together. Even with the world facing so much uncertainty regarding the global outbreak, the newly formed group did not sit idly by but instead got straight to work. During the major lock-downs across the world the band wrote over 40+ songs. Out of the many songs they wrote, they decided on 8 of their favorites for an upcoming release in the future. Their new single “Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em” was tracked and mixed by Jakob Mooney and mastered by Mazen Murrat at Katara Studios.
When talking about his label Stephen Perkins says, “Why now? I think with all my experience and hunger to help bands and artists grow, it is a perfect time to cross the bridge to plant the seeds for new artists. I am a label for artists! Artist first!”
The band is in the process of booking live shows in 2022.
MALACODA have released their blistering Lizzy Borden cover “Me Against the World” which premiered via Metal-Rules and can be heard here.
Malacoda adds – “Me Against the World is the first cover song we’ve ever released. Ever since we saw the B-horror film Black Roses we knew we’d have to cover it some day. While our version of the song isn’t as hair metal sounding, we still have that 80’s edge by having Shane Provstgaard from Sonic Prophecy providing guest vocals on the track. We’ve been wanting to work with Shane for years, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so!”
The track can also be found at the bands YouTube channel here:
Originally a recording project of multi-instrumentalist and music producer Lucas Di Mascio, Malacoda has persevered and grown throughout the years. Now a trio, the band is ready to unleash the conclusion to their trilogy of EP’s that was written and recorded before the pandemic.
EP Details:
The Year Walk is the third EP Malacoda will release in 2021. Four more songs which build upon the band’s symphonic sound first explored on 2016’s Ritualis Aeterna.
Long time collaborator Michael Farina returns to play drums on select tracks, as well as Ryan Claxton (Tulip, Living Dead Girl) and Andrew Suarez (ex-The Slyde). The haunting album cover was made by the extremely talented Stefan Skjoedt.
Featuring Gabriel Guardiola (Immortal Guardian) on the track Beaten Path as well as a stellar mixing and mastering job by Jeramie Kling (The Absence, Inhuman Condition, Venom Inc.), The Year Walk encompasses everything the band sought to achieve with this direction and closes a long, arduous chapter in Malacoda’s history.
Frontman Lucas Di Mascio had this to say about The Year Walk:
“The majority of the songs that have been released this year were written around 2017 – before the release of our last full length, Restless Dreams. I didn’t really know what to do with these songs because they were so different from Restless Dreams but still were aligned with the sound we had developed on the EP, Ritualis Aeterna. I shelved them for a bit and then decided to rework them when working with an artist who was endorsed by a big guitar brand.
The artist in question wanted to have some metal material to help promote themselves, so we built a new band for the material. I was actually supposed to be the rhythm guitarist for this project- we had a different singer involved. Unfortunately that project never got off the ground after almost a year of working on it and the songs were shelved yet again. In mid 2019 I revisited the songs and wrote a few more after Zak had joined. We were excited with the material and felt it should be a Malacoda release.
We finished drum tracking right as 2019 was ending. While our initial plans drastically changed because of the pandemic, I decided that we should still release this material but just break it into EP’s so we can keep busy in a time without touring.”
This new EP will be made available as digital only and the band has no intentions to tour in support of this release as they continue to observe COVID-19 restrictions in Canada.

“Love ‘em all! Go Orange Goblin go!” Philip H. Anselmo (Down, Superjoint Ritual, Ex-Pantera)
ORANGE GOBLIN have, over the last 25 years, more than earned the right to be considered among the greats of British heavy music, revered and respected by their legion of fans worldwide, the media and their musical peers, they are a band with the future firmly in their sights and Orange Goblin are now, ushering in a new era of heavy metal chaos. Following the departure of bassist Martyn Millard, the Londoners have regrouped, recruiting old comrade Harry Armstrong (ex-Hangnail/Earls Of Mars/End Of Level Boss) for their new studio opus and impending live shows, and have signed a new deal with Peaceville Records.
“25 years of showing us how it’s done, how to rock this world hard .. I’ve never been in a band twenty five years, you guys did it you rocked hard and I hope you continue to go on and on” – Scott Reader (Kyuss, Goatsnake)
Orange Goblin’s singer Ben Ward comments“When we first started the band back in 1995, Peaceville was a label we admired so much due to the number of amazing bands they were releasing and building careers for at the time. To join a roster that released albums by the likes of Autopsy, Darkthrone, Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Pentagram, At The Gates, Aura Noir and many more is an absolute honour and we look forward to continuing that amazing bloodline of talent, alongside the killer bands that they currently have on their books. We spoke to a few labels when our last deal ended and the enthusiasm, vision and passion for the music that Peaceville showed made this a really easy decision for all of us. We can’t wait to start work on what will be the 10th Orange Goblin studio album. With a new bass player in place we are now writing new material and expect to have this released sometime in 2022. Cheers! “
“Great band, great guys” – Kirk Windstein (Down, Crowbar)
Paul Groundwell Peaceville’ label manager says “As trailblazers of the UK heavy metal scene for well over two decades now, and a band which has remained consistent in their attitude and with unwavering integrity towards their art, we’re delighted to now welcome Orange Goblin to the Peaceville family for more top class doom-fuelled shenanigans to come”.
Formed under the name Our Haunted Kingdom, way back in 1995, Orange Goblin entered the world of heavy music as wide-eyed enthusiasts, eager to channel the fire and fury of their favourite bands. Emerging amid the exhilarating melee of the mid-‘90s stoner rock and doom explosion, the Londoners immediately endeared themselves to a whole generation of metal fans.
Orange Goblin’s debut album Frequencies From Planet Ten was released via esteemed underground imprint Rise Above Records in October 1997. From that moment on, their rabid dedication to playing live and always rocking people to within an inch of their lives earned them a formidable reputation and numerous opportunities to tour the world. A steady stream of critically acclaimed and widely revered studio albums has also added to Orange Goblin’s substantial legacy, from early classics like Time Travelling Blues and The Big Black through to more recent triumphs like 2012’s universally praised A Eulogy For The Damned and 2018’s equally hailed The Wolf Bites Back.
Now, with a new deal in place, the band are planning on 2022 bringing a new studio album, more explosive, celebratory live performances that the band’s ever-expanding fan base have come to expect.

Norwegian prog trio ADDIKTIO have released their highly anticipated second full-length “Anthem for the Year 2020”! Being influenced by fellow Norwegians like Motorpsycho, Shining and Elephant Nine to international artists as Mutemath, Mew and Led Zeppelin, Addiktio create a stellar sonic experience and deliver a unique blend of modern instrumental prog music.
The talented trio members are all active as session musicians for several Norwegian acts, where the most known internationally are Shining and Ina Wroldsen, and the most known nationally are Gabrielle, Darling West, Marit Larsen, Odd Nordstoga, Ida Maria, Lido ++.
With this record, Addiktio deliver a unique soundtrack and leave us with plenty of possibilities for different interpretations. While it seems to be a middle finger to the year of the pandemic, it was already done before the pandemic hit in. “Its title took on a whole new meaning for us as the year took its toll”, says Ruben. Besides that, 2020 was a difficult year for the Norwegians as well. Postponed gigs and releases made it hard to get out on stages, however, there was room for geeking out in the studio and creating content. Addiktio’s result is their strongest material to date, underlining their thrive to write iconic music outside the box, while always cherishing their musical integrity and constantly delivering their strong vibes of energy, majesty, and melancholy.
Southern New Hampshire based blackened melodic death metallers BEGAT THE NEPHILIM release their full length Noble Demon debut “II: The Grand Procession” today! With a blend of heavy riffs, ripping solos and soaring guitar melodies, the band’s sophomore album is a fast & relentless blizzard of intensity and a true testament to powerful modern metal.
To celebrate “II: The Grand Procession” finally being available worldwide, the band has released a brand new lyric video for the album’s title track, streaming here:
“The title track of this album reflects exactly that. The overall concept of the album, being death and dealing with it. This perfectly encapsulates the raw emotion of the album and the essence of its lyrical themes. This album is an ode to not only my father, but to all the family, friends and loved ones we, as a band and you, as a listener, have lost over the years.” vocalist Tyler Smith states.
Formed in 2012, BEGAT THE NEPHILIM have shared stages with high profile acts such as DEICIDE, KATAKLYSM, SOULFLY, SUICIDE SILENCE, NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, MORBID ANGEL and many more, as well as participating in tours/festivals across the US, such as Summer Slaughter and the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. With their heavy yet melodic, anthemic and technically impressive sound, as well as their frenetic & chaotic live performances, the band successfully established a lasting impression on crowds across the US.

The 2021 re-recording of “Below Zero” by Finnish crossover pioneers Waltari is premiering today and features none other than the band´s countrymate Marko Hietala – a rock legend in his own right, known from symphonic metal masters Nighwish and hard rock stalwarts Tarot. With their friendship going back as far as 1991, “Marko himself chose the song” according to Waltari mastermind Kärtsy Hatakka. “He had a vision about how the new version should sound, and we then – in a very good common spirit – wanted to definitely fulfill his wishes as best as we could. I think this turned out more than okay!” ´Below Zero´ (originally the title track of the band´s 2009 studio album) is going to be featured in Waltari´s 30th anniversary album “3rd Decade – Anniversary Edition” (Metalville Records – released date 26.11.).

You can watch the official documentary video below.
Marko Hietala comments:
“Kärtsy, the mainman of Waltari, asked me about a year ago if I’d be interested in guesting on their tribute album project. Their funky metallic crossover was one of the very first to break the international barrier from Finland, and they helped to pave the way for a lot of us. ”Below Zero” was chosen as the song to work on and the new chorus sounds way massive! I agreed to do it with the guys of course. We met already in a prehistoric sweaty haze of a finnish rock club in the early nineties. We’re dinosaurian brothers and you need a piece of the sky to kill us off!”
Kärtsy Hatakka comments:
“Marko and I are very old friends, far from the last century. With Roope Latvala, who was our common guitarist friend (Children Of Bodom, Waltari, Stone), they had a band together called Sinergy. This was before Marko joined Nightwish. At that band’s gigs we were hanging around together, and in fact I remember meeting Marko already in 1991 in Kuopio, Finland, when Waltari was playing there for the first time. After the departure from Nightwish we were happy to get him onboard to interpret our “Below Zero” song from 2009. Marko himself chose the song and had a preliminary vision about it, how he wanted it to be sounded.and we then, in a very good common spirit, wanted definitely to fulfill his productional vision as we ever could.”
