Bay Area thrash legends DEATH ANGEL have announced plans to release a new live record titled “The Bastard Tracks” on Black Friday, November 26th with Nuclear Blast. Recorded live at The Great American Music Hall in their hometown of San Francisco on May 22nd, 2021, and streamed live soon after, “The Bastard Tracks” is a deep cuts collection of rarely and never performed songs from the band’s celebrated catalog that will be released digitally and on CD, Vinyl and Blu-Ray.

Commenting on the record, vocalist Mark Osegueda states:
“When we performed and filmed the songs for ‘The Bastard Tracks’ it was such a crazy time and having missed being able to perform live for so long was taking it’s toll on me to a certain degree as I have been a live performer for the majority of my life..

I must say…It was a pretty dark time. I know it was for so many of us…But! Music once again helped to pull us through it…It was a bit odd performing to no crowd…But! It felt great re-learning some deep tracks and getting on stage with the guys and unleashing this pent up aggression! And the response from everyone who tuned into it suggesting that we release it as an album was overwhelming! Well…Thanks to them here it is! I hope you enjoy it!”

Adding to that, guitarist Rob Cavestany says:
“Choosing and sequencing the songs for ‘The Bastard Tracks’ set list was quite a different trip. All of them had rarely (and in some instances never) been played live. We hadn’t performed in front of a live audience for over a year, the longest ever for this band. It was to be filmed live at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and then broadcast worldwide on the good ol’ inter-web! I could get into that…

From basically re-learning most of these songs to getting them as tight as they should be, we put our energy together and made it happen! I’m thankful for having had this goal to focus on during those (still) crazy earth crisis days. It gave us an important reason to get together at DA Studio and JAM! Literally the only time I’ve felt “normal” since 2020 was while we were jamming! Fortunately we’ve been able to do it a lot. Now, we proudly present the audio and visual recordings of those sessions. Turn it up!
P.S. – We cannot wait to exchange live energy with you as soon as possible!!”

Today, the band has revealed the record’s first single and live music video for “Where They Lay.”

Osegueda says of the new track:
“‘Where They Lay’ is a prime example of a DEATH ANGEL Bastard track! We have rarely played this song live and I’m guessing the last time we did was 2010! I love the release I get singing this song. Namely because the screaming bits I do are so cathartic!!! And I need a release during these crazy times! And screaming is one of my favorite ways to get frustration out of my system!! I look forward to screaming in front of a live audience again soon!”

Cavestany adds:
“Rise! This empowering message echoes thru the entire song from the first note to the last.  Where They Lay is one of our pure thrash cuts with those chugging riffs, pounding grooves and vicious lyrics that incites head banging and thrashing!  It’s so fun to play on guitar, I love the percussive, rhythmic attack and the solos are so twangy.  I’m stoked to include it in the set and to launch it as the first single from our upcoming release ‘The Bastard Tracks.'”

RÏCÏNN Unveils Stunning Animated Video ‘Doris’ Feat. Travis Ryan

Experimental French vocalist / composer RÏCÏNN (Laure Le Prunenec) has unveiled the stunning new video to the single ‘Doris’, which features guest vocals from Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation. The animated video, which was entirely digitally hand-drawn by German artist Marius. M. Muench, marks the one year anniversary of Rïcïnn‘s ground-breaking new album Nereïd, out now via Blood Music.

Marius commented on the video and his creative process: “Drawing gives me the ability to create my own unique worlds, to tell stories from distant lands defined by my pen, but expanded by any viewer’s imagination and therefore hold secrets that not even I may know, even though I have drawn the fundamentals of it.

“Laure does the same with her music, voice and language, so it was quite exciting to see what happens when we combine both our ways and create a third realm that consists of both her musical universe and the universe of my drawings.

“Together with the tribal drums of Sylvain Bouvier, the apocalyptic scream of Travis Ryan textured by the guitars of Eran Segal, and conducted by the strings of cellist, Raphael Verguin, mixed and mastered by Déhá Amsg and now accompanied by my drawings, Rïcïnn created a child holding parts of all our imaginations, a child named Doris.

“Or how the creator of both our favourite series would put it “There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge.’ (Rodman Edward Serling, The Twilight Zone)

“It is an area which we call ‘The Doris Zone’.”

Purchase Nereïd here: http://www.blood-music.com/store

In a world of appearances, Rïcïnn was born from the desire to remain true to her instrument, the voice.
As a child, she cooked remedies, formulas, and prayers to serve them to the world. An expression of ‘The Now’. Fire & water, whales & birds, sounds emanating from the mist, blown by the windy shore, spitting the scrambling wreckage of a damaged arch, vestige from an ancient and forgotten civilisation, flooded into the oversights of time.

Rïcïnn appears as the lonely survivor of a pre-post apocalyptic universe, a new world in which she bereaves the loss of her unknown culture.

Nereïd is a concoction of many cultures, assimilated and included with her own language. The experience of an incarnation in the material world, falling into the living, as the nymphs of Poseidon move the ocean, making choices, harmonising the rhythms of nature.

Known for her work as female vocalist for breakcore outfit Igorrr, experimental gothic funeral metal band Öxxö Xööx, and experimental trip-hop unit Corpo-Mente; Rïcïnn‘sbeautiful, solo work lies in the realm of funeral opera – with nearly all composition, instrumentation, and imagery created by the artist herself.

The result is a celestial dance, moving into unexpected explosions of terror, each sacred in their own right.

For fans of Diamanda Galás, Chelsea Wolfe, Klaus Nomi and Bjork.

HEAVY WATER Release Single And Lyric Video ‘Tree In The Wind’

Father/son power-house HEAVY WATER release the heartfelt single ‘Tree In The Wind’ today, which is taken from their debut album, Red Brick City, out now via Silver Lining Music.

‘Tree In The Wind’ is evocative, delicate, yet delivers a powerful uplifting message. The track is completely different to that of both Byford’s previous musical endeavours, clearly displaying the multi-faceted talents of the duo.

“We wrote this about surviving through these hard times it’s a song of hope and survival” reflects Biff and Seb Byford.

Heavy Water’s debut album Red Brick City is the result of a lockdown 2020 project between Saxon’s Biff Byford and his son Seb Byford, ten songs which bring you on an irrepressible raw blues-backed journey through influences and invention, a journey which has you hooked from the first note.

The foundations for Heavy Water’s sound are set in both that incredible father/son chemistry and a lifetime of know-how and experiences. Take the title track -and first single- ‘Red Brick City’: all steam and smoulder wrapped around a riff Soundgarden would’ve been proud of, and then there’s the sun-soaked smile of ‘Follow This Moment’ with harmonies evoking the Beach Boys relayed through Led Zeppelin, a gorgeous ‘70s trip right down to the fade out. Indeed, from the taut, elastic swing of the ‘Solution’ riff to the rich, layered balladic strains of ‘Tree in the Wind’, Red Brick City moves with the class and cadence of a cracking journey uniting vintage Rock ‘n’ Roll sensibilities with the crackle and excitement of a fresh, youthful perspective.

Seb Byford recorded and engineered Red Brick City at the Big Silver Barn in York, UK, while the drums were recorded by Ben Hammond at Reel Recording Studio in York. Seb produced the album with Biff, and Jacky Lehmann mastered. Red Brick City sees Seb take the reins on guitar and vocals, with Biff taking up the bass and vocal mantle. Tom Witts plays the drums, while Dave Kemp rounds out the Heavy Water line-up on keyboards and saxophone. A rich, lustrous ride through profoundly rewarding rock waters. To cap off this family affair, the packaging photos were taken by Steph Byford.

Red Brick City is out now, via Silver Lining Music. Available as a CD Digipak, Coloured Vinyl Album, digital formats and special D2C bundles. To order, go to THIS LOCATION

STAHLMANN Release New Single ‘Wollust’

Advertised for months, eagerly awaited by fans and already on everyone`s lips with the pre-release singles/videos ‘Sünder’, ‘Gottmaschine’ and ‘Krähen der Nacht’: On Desember, 10th 2021 the Göttingen NDH/German rock formation  STAHLMANN will release their latest studio album “Quarz“. As announced, it is the band`s most varied and sophisticated work to date. With his bandmates Mario Sobotka (guitar) and Dimitrios ‘Tacki’ Gatsios (drums), frontman Martin ‘Mart’ Soer (vocals, programming) has recorded ten powerful and multi-layered songs that skillfully bring the typical Stahlmann style into focus. Mart: “We’ve deliberately returned to our roots this time to revive the old-school NDH directives of our first three albums. Naturally, these influences have been combined with current, contemporary ideas. The result is a balanced, well-rounded album, catchy but still with all the raw edges Stahlmann is known for.”

Martin Soer is referring to songs like ‘Gegen den Strom’, ‘Tobsucht’ or their current club focus single ‘Wollust’, but also to their dance-style song ‘Herz und Tränen’, their pre-release track ‘Gottmaschine’ mentioned above, or their brashly powerful ‘Willst Du’. And then, there is their groovy ‘Sonnenreich’ with a skillful mixture of NDH influences and German rock, as well as their ballad ‘Der Sturm’, that comes with its own symphonic string accompaniment and a decidedly sensual love story.

By the way: “Quarz”, too, is bursting with eloquent lyrics, the underlying meaning of which Martin Soer has deliberately laced with double entendres. He says: “As diverse as our topics are – from the ever-popular sex and eroticism in ‘Der Sturm’ or ‘Willst Du’, to the critical evaluation of the glorification of alleged deities in ‘Sonnenreich’, to our appeal in ‘Krähen der Nacht’ to boldly keep taking on new challenges, without forgetting your own roots – it’s basically an ironic wink, along with our wish to our fans to not rack their brains too much over seemingly heavy subjects.”

Participate in GUS G.’s Virtuoso World of Guitar Sounds

One of the best guitarists of our time makes a quantum leap and lets his fans participate in his virtuoso world of guitar sounds. The result: GUS G.‘s latest album “Quantum Leap”.

The instrumental album relies on symmetry and brevity. Gus G. manages in an impressive way to center his guitar and replaces with her the role of the singer.

In addition, “Quantum Leap” does not simply tie in with older projects by the artist. Rather, it’s a mix of older heavy metal tricks, that are reminiscent of FIREWIND, enriched with more power, new creative ideas and very own melodies. See for yourselfe :

I didn’t make Quantum Leap with the intention of it being the next one in the cycle of solo albums,” Gus admits. “It was more of a case of, ‘What else is there?’ I needed the creative outlet.”

Already the first track “Into The Unknown” presents itself in a new way, compared to older solo works of Gus G. In many parts the song is reminiscent of fast progressive rock, which invites you to groove along with its many nuances. The same applies to the single “Exosphere” and the focus track “Quantum Leap”.
The relaxed ballad “Enigma Of Life”, on the other hand, is completely detached of the prog-wave and leads the listener further into a varied and stylistically memorable work.

Wilder tracks like “Fierce” or “Judgment Day” flank the typical Metal that Gus G. fans love so much. And they are not the only fans of the Greek talent: “This album […] is overflowing with red hot smoking guitar work and unrelenting metal spirit,” enthuses Marty Friedman, himself a gifted guitarist.

“Quantum Leap” is crowned by “Force Majeure”, which, with the support of guitar star Vinnie Moor, fully expresses the elaborate handwork of Gus G.
If you can’t get enough after the 11 short but crisp tracks, you can look forward to the bonus CD: It is a collection of live performances from the last tour and again provides the complicated guitar gymnastics that Gus G. is capable of.

Steve Morese (Deep Purble) also admits the talent without envy:
“Gus can play the very difficult, intense passages with no problem … but what makes the album easy to listen to is that melodic themes are in every song, which allows the technical parts to be more striking.”

The mixture of progressive rock elements, synth waves, new melodies and hard metal parts, makes “Quantum Leap” a real quantum leap in the scene.
The exceptional guitarist proves: “As an artist nowadays, you can basically do whatever you like and there’s an audience out there for it. Instrumental music might not be a big seller, but everybody and can listen to anything, and there are no limits to what I can do.”

Gus G. made a name for himself with Firewind, the band he initially launched as a solo project in 1998 that made its official debut in 2002. In that time the band has released nine albums, while Gus has also recorded and toured with Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil and Ozzy Osbourne. He has also made inroads as a solo artist, having released three albums under his own name: I Am The Fire (2014), Brand New Revolution (2015), and Fearless (2018). He closes 2021 with a new instrumental solo effort, Quantum Leap, featuring 10 tracks that both showcase the playing style Gus is known for and takes fans into new territory.
