AIRBAG Reveal Details Of Upcoming Acoustic Album And DVD Release

When Karisma Records released AIRBAG‘s fifth full-length album “A Day at the Beach” in June 2020, neither band nor label, or indeed the fans themselves, realised that the Pandemic would soon rage throughout the world, putting paid to any plans bands may have had to play live in front of an audience.

Eager to showcase their songs and show fans that they had not been abandoned by the band, AIRBAG came up with the idea of not just recording an acoustic set, but also of filming the recording process itself, which resulted in the band  entering  the Subsonic Society Studio in Oslo to set the process in motion.

As AIRBAG explained:

2020 had been a difficult year for us all. With our new album, “A Day at the Beach”, released in June of that year we had planned to tour and play live for all our fans and friends but it was not to be. Still, we wanted to do something special that would keep us connected to our fans and also to say thanks for everyone’s support in these trying times. Doing this acoustic session allowed us to revisit songs from the new album and a few old ones as well. A new challenge for sure but a fun and inspiring experience.

Having successfully streamed a portion of the studio set last Autumn, the full acoustic album, appropriately titled “A Day in the Studio” is now ready to hit the streets in December of this year.  As well as the three tracks from “A Day at the Beach”, the new album will feature two classic tracks, “Colours” and “Sounds That I Hear” from AIRBAG’s 2009 album “Identity”, plus  a previously unreleased track “Come on In”.

Both the CD and Vinyl versions come with a DVD of the original streamed session which shows AIRBAG in an intimate setting, away from the usual festival stages, which is where fans are most used to seeing them.

As to the decision to make “A Day in the Studio” an acoustic album, AIRBAG had this to say:

Most of our songs start out on an acoustic guitar and it’s always been about the melodies that go into making a great song. Since we never got to tour our latest album, “A Day at the Beach”  due to the pandemic, going  back into the studio with just acoustic guitars gave us the chance to revisit those songs.

We really didn’t intend for it to be more than a lockdown session, which everyone was doing at the time, but it sounded really good, with slightly different arrangements and all three of us singing. So we ended up with two sessions and digging deep into our catalogue to find songs that fit really well with the new stuff.

Mixed by Vegard Kleftås Sleipnes and filmed by Eirik Stordrange, tracklisting for “A Day in the Studio” is as follows:

  1. Machines and Men (A Day at the Beach)
  2. Sunsets (A Day at the Beach)
  3. Into the Unknown (A Day at the Beach)
  4. Come on In (previously unreleased)
  5. Colours (Identity – cd/vinyl only)
  6. Sounds That I Hear (Identity – cd/vinyl only)

“A Day in the Studio” will be released on Karisma Records on the 3rd of December,  is now available to pre-order from:

Adept at blending diverse musical styles and sounds with a strong narrative listening experience, AIRBAG has been  hailed as one of the most important bands to emerge from the Norwegian prog scene over the past decades. Formed  in the mid 2000’s with a lineup that comprised five high school class mates, two of whom,  Asle Tostrup on vocals and Bjørn Riis on guitars, have been joined by  Henrik Bergan Fossum on drums and form today’s incarnation of AIRBAG as a trio.

IMARI TONES Release New Official Video For ‘Jidai’

Christian metal group IMARI TONES have released a new official video ‘Jidai’ taken from their recent double album Nabeshima. Here’s the bands statement that goes along with the video; “Shinryu, our drummer, is also a professional martial artist. In this video he appears as a Samurai who travels through deep woods, seeking strength and spiritual truth. (Ah, yes, Samurai with shades). He shows his sword moves as well as his drumming skills. The highlight of this movie is where Shinryu does his Karate training near a big waterfall, which is nothing but a spectacular sight.

The song Jidai has mysterious mood from ancient Japan. We like to call it a “Mysterious Ninja Progressive tune”. The lyrics is about the ephemeral nature of time. Changing nature of existence through time. Jidai means time, or era in Japanese (時代). We also meant Jidaigeki (時代劇) which is a word for old Samurai movies.

Jidai is not a Christian song. It’s more like a progressive song based on Japanese ancient spirit. Probably this song is standing on the line between Japanese Pagan Metal and Christian Rock. But that’s one of the themes we worked on Nabeshima album. The song has a unique character and rhythm structure and we hope you can feel the mystery and awesomeness.”

Imari Tones – Nabeshima
Nabeshima is a double album consisting of 24 songs. While people may be amazed at the volume, it certainly takes listeners to a mysterious journey through ancient Japan. Unknown fantasy world where Japanese traditional culture and Christianity meet. The songs are sung both in English and Japanese. 11 songs are sung in English while 11 songs are in Japanese. The other 2 tracks are instrumental. The musical style is very diverse. It has some of the heaviest songs from Imari Tones, as well as some of the most outlandish progressive songs. At the same time it has straightforward pop songs and beautiful ballads. Read more …here

Coming off the heels of this monumental event, the band is announcing their rescheduled tour dates for Europe and the UK, which will take place in 2022 and 2023. The correct and re-scheduled dates can be found below. Ticket sales are now live HERE and are expected to run low very fast. Last year, HEILUNG shared their first ever music video for the Independent Music Award-winning song “Norupo,” which is taken from 2019’s critically-acclaimed release, ‘Futha!’ The video was shot at the Neolithic standing stones at Les Menhirs de Monteneuf in France. You can watch the stunning video at THIS LOCATION.

“Norupo” is composed around the ancient runic poem with the name ”The Norwegian Rune Poem”. The poem was preserved in a 17th-century copy of a now lost 13th-century manuscript and gives a complete description of all sixteen runes of the younger Futhark.During 2020’s Game Awards, HEILUNG announced that they will be working with U.K.-based gaming company Ninja Theory on the soundtrack for their upcoming game, ‘Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.’ The announcement trailer for the new game features HEILUNG‘s song ‘In Maidjan,’ which is taken from their debut album, ‘Ofnir.’ Watch the trailer HERE.

In addition, they secured another video game collaboration with MY.GAMES and Booming Tech for the new season of the ‘Conqueror’s Blade’ video game, ‘VII: “Wolves of Ragnarok.” The trailer for the game, featuring the track “Galgaldr,” can be found HERE.

With lyrics recorded in Old Norse and inspired by Völuspá – a prophecy of Ragnarok from the Poetic Edda – HEILUNG’s atmospheric sound will immerse players in a dark new era for ‘Conqueror’s Blade.’ HEILUNG will also see their name being eternalized in one of the new combat map locations, which is now officially called ‘Heilung Fjord,’ and serves as a place for healing. More info on the game can be found HERE.

The band’s music was featured in a trailer for the final season of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ series. It can be viewed HERE.

HEILUNG’s music was also previously featured in season 10 of the television show ‘Vikings’. Episode 10 of Season 6 features multiple fragments of the tracks ‘Fylgija Ear’, ‘Hamrer Hippyer’ and ‘Alfadhirhaiti’. A snippet of the music use in one of the ‘Rus Army’ scenes can be found HERE.

REAPING ASMODEIA have released their new album, Darkened Infinity, via Prosthetic Records. The Minneapolis trio’s third album sees REAPING ASMODEIA fuse together expansive and progressive technical death metal with conceptual themes of transcendentalism, the afterlife and dream logic. Alongside Darkened Infinity‘s release the band have also shared a new music video for Oneironautic Oblivion.

Speaking on the album release, the band comments: “The last year and a half to 2 years has been somewhat of a blur to a lot of us. When we completed Darkened Infinity at the onset of the pandemic, we were uncertain about a lot of things. For quite some time, we did not know when this body of work would be resting in your hands/ears – but that day has finally come! Words fall short to explain how pleased we are that you can endure Darkened Infinity, as we hoped it would be, from start to finish.

Expect to see us pouring our energy and souls into our live show in a city near you very soon. If you are near our hometown area of the Twin Cities, we trust you will share the night of Saturday October 16th with us. Come celebrate the unleashing of Darkened Infinity together at the Amsterdam in St. Paul, MN.”

Produced and engineered by the band themselves in Minneapolis before being mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Machine Head, All Shall Perish, Carnifex) at Castle Ultimate and Sharkbite Studios, Darkened Infinity’s intricate lead melodies unfurl with a menacing clarity when set against the album’s more abrasive tones.

Darkened Infinity’s concept begins steeped in tragedy as the album’s protagonist loses his family at the hands of humanity’s destructive force, with his own life hanging in the balance. As the tale unfolds, Lane’s lyrics thread together a story of immortality, malevolent entities and realms of dream logic – all the while exploring humankind’s inherent duality. Darkened Infinity’s thematic quest for transcendence is adroitly tied together in the opening and closing moments, suggesting enlightenment is not something to be obtained, but merely ‘the consequence of being’.

In the four years since their 2017 effort, Impuritize, REAPING ASMODEIA have relentlessly pursued the US live circuit, playing shows alongside the likes of Slaughter To Prevail, Rivers of Nihil, The Faceless and many more – refining their craft with a perseverance and determination akin to few others. Discontent with resting on their laurels, REAPING ASMODEIA in 2021 are a far more seasoned beast, ready and willing to obliterate all notions of time mellowing their appetite and musical ambitions.

Immersive, immense and infinitely satisfying – Darkened Infinity deftly places REAPING ASMODEIA amongst the genre’s most promising and consistently intriguing groups.

Upcoming REAPING ASMODEIA show:
29 October – Ed’s No Name Bar – Winona, MN – Winona Metalfest 2

QUINN SULLIVAN Releases Live Video for ‘All Around The World’

As his recent single “All Around The World” surpasses more than 4 million streams, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist QUINN SULLIVAN has just released a new live take on the song, filmed at Building Records this summer. “Matured and owning his words,” wrote American Songwriter in an exclusive premiere of the single, “Sullivan returns more as a singer-songwriter than just a prodigy guitarist with “All Around the World.” Sullivan is continuing to tour the US in support of his new album ‘Wide Awake’ this fall. For a full list of tour dates and to purchase tickets, click HERE.

Just 22-years-old, Sullivan has already toured the world, collaborated with rock’s biggest legends, and developed genuinely jaw-dropping skills as a guitar player. But now, Sullivan’s more recent work has been with pen and paper, as he lets the abundant skills of his youth blossom and steer him into new directions of artistry and creativity. Written prior to 2020, Sullivan says “All Around the World” took on a whole new meaning within the past year’s pandemic and protests. “It still has the same meaning as the day we wrote it, but it’s taking on more of a broader meaning,” shares Sullivan. “It’s almost like an anthem of what 2020 was, and what 2021 will probably be.”

Recorded in Los Angeles with producer/collaborator Oliver Leiber, ‘Wide Awake’ adds potent new arrows to a quiver already brimming with sure-shots, and it showcases the kind of forward motion that separates the artists from the mere players. “I want people to understand who I am as an artist,” explains Quinn. “I think my audience will appreciate the fact that the guitar is still a huge part of who I am, and I can truthfully say all the songs are coming from a very honest place.”

A rare artist who’s always sounded older than his years, Sullivan has been touring the world since he was 11-years-old, playing storied venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and RFK Stadium in Washington D.C., as well as India’s Mahindra Blues Festival, Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, and three Montreux Jazz Festivals. Quinn has shared the stage with his hero and mentor Buddy Guy, as well as Carlos Santana on several occasions. Quinn’s performance experience includes appearances on leading national television programs Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and CBS This Morning, to name a few.

As he moves into this new chapter, Sullivan’s constant credo has been growth and learning. “I want to stay true to where I come from, and go from there,” says Sullivan. “The artists that inspire me to do that are always hungry for the new. They never repeat themselves. They just grow and become more unique — and that’s what I aim to do as an artist.”
