Critically acclaimed British guitarist and singer songwriter, Joanne Shaw Taylor, universally hailed as the UK’s premiere blues rock guitarist, is announcing the release of her sixth studio full-length record The Blues Album on Friday September 24th, 2021. Today she also shares a new single, Let Me Down Easy along with a companion music video.

The album will be released via Joe Bonamassa’s independent blues label KTBA Records. It was produced and recorded by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.

The hotly tipped 11-track album features Joanne’s personalised covers of eleven rare blues classics originally recorded by Albert King, Peter Green, Little Richard, Magic Sam, Aretha Franklin, Little Milton, and many more.

The Blues Album, the follow up to 2019’s critically acclaimed album Reckless Heart, features Josh Smith (guitar), Reese Wynans (keyboards), Greg Morrow (drums), Steve Mackey (bass), Steve Patrick (trumpet), Mark Douthit (sax), Barry Green (trombone). Joe Bonamassa plays guitar and sings on the track Don’t Go Away Mad.

Mike Farris also joins as a special guest on I Don’t Know What You’ve Got.

“I’d known from the beginning of my recording career that one day I wanted to record an album of blues covers, I just wasn’t sure when the right time to do that would be,” says Joanne. “I’ve always found it far easier to write my own material than come up with creative ways to make other artists’ material my own.”

When the pandemic put the brakes on from musicians from touring during 2020 and most of 2021, Joanne thought it was the right time to head into the studio to record The Blues Album.

“I mentioned my new project idea to Joe Bonamassa,” recalls Joanne. “He asked me for my song choices. Immediately he began sending me notes and was texting me song suggestions.” Joanne and Joe have been best friends and fans of each other’s music for many years. Joanne always wanted to work with Joe if the right project or collaboration came about.

“He was already acting as a mentor as well as an unofficial producer on The Blues Album, so I asked him if he’d fancy the job, officially,” says Joanne. “Thankfully, he accepted. The Blues Album has been everything I hoped it would be. It’s been a labour of love, overseen by an artist, producer, and friend who I trust beyond measure.”

“We wanted to make a tough vocal centric straight blues record that showcases Joanne’s amazing talent but in a slightly different light,” explains Bonamassa. “Joanne is a dear friend and a superstar. Josh and I focused on testing her limits and pushing boundaries that might not have occurred before. It’s all about making a statement and having the listener want to play the music repeatedly.”

Joanne’s covers album pays tribute to artists and bands that are not obvious choices including Little Village, Little Milton, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Ray, but, at the same time, she covers seminal blues icons including Albert King, Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green and Magic Sam. Some of the songs covered are B-sides of singles.

“We try not to live in the well-worn trails of the blues,” explains Bonamassa. “Each song has to has to stand on its own while paying tribute to the original masters.”

“Joe made it known from the get-go that his main objective for this album was to push me as a singer,” recalls Joanne. “Obviously, Joe has seen me perform many times over the years and knows my voice well. I think he felt that he could my vocal performance more, and get more out of it, especially since I’d had over a year to rest my vocal cords.”

As a musician and a recording and performing artist, Joe Bonamassa has always been a fan of Joanne’s music. Ultimately, what did Bonamassa set out to achieve by co-producing this magnificent, rich, and beautifully recorded and performed album for Joanne? Joe explains, “If you focus on what people might not associate with an artist and work hard on those areas it allows her fans to discover things and sets her up in a different light. Joanne’s a great singer and always has been. The guitar unfortunately has over-shadowed it until now. A lot of us in the business have the same problem. “

“On the new album, I mostly played my own guitar, my 1966 Esquire ‘Junior’,” says Joanne. “I tried to use a few of Joes Tele’s, but they’re set up for much bigger hands than mine. I did use Joe’s vintage amps – I believe one of his 60’s Vibroverbs mixed with a fumble overdrive for pretty much all of it. We didn’t use any pedals.”

It goes without saying that the production team of Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith are at the top of their game.  They recently produced new albums for Joanna Connor, Jimmy Hall, and Eric Gales. Joanna Connor’s album, 4801 South Indiana Avenue, met with great critical acclaim worldwide, was the second album released on Bonamassa’s independent label KTBA Records and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart.

“Joe and Josh make a fantastic team,” insists Joanne. “Both bring something different to the table that the other maybe couldn’t. I loved working with them. I was worried about working with Joe for obvious reasons, (we are very close friends), but you never know how that will translate into a working relationship. It was cool to work with two guys not much older than me. Most of the producers I’ve worked with so far haven’t been so close to me in age, plus Joe and Josh have the added benefit of understanding what it is to tour on the same scene as me and what me touring this album will look like. All in all, it was a very relaxed fun session and hang.”

Jim Matheos’ TUESDAY THE SKY Launch Video for New Single “The Blurred Horizon”

On September 3rd, TUESDAY THE SKY will release their new album, The Blurred Horizon, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of the record, a new video for the title track can be viewed below:

The previously released single, “Hypneurotic”, can be heard at: metalblade.com/tuesdaythesky, where The Blurred Horizon can also be pre-ordered in various formats.

Tuesday The Sky‘s origins could almost be considered accidental. Guitarist Jim Matheos, famed for his work with progressive metal giants Fates Warning alongside projects such as OSI and his collaboration with John Arch, Arch/Matheos, penned a few songs that did not fit in with any of his established outlets, and intrigued by this, decided to write more and see where this took him. The result was 2017’s Drift, a record that drew influence from the likes of Brian Eno, Sigur Ros, Boards Of Canada and Explosions In The Sky, and now he returns with its successor, The Blurred Horizon. A mixture of ambient, electronica, post-rock and more, The Blurred Horizon is perhaps best described as a beautiful record, having a natural grace to it. While predominantly the work of Matheos, he is not the sole performer on the record, enlisting the help of other musicians where necessary. “It’s primarily a solo project, but with the idea of having different guests on each record to help fill it out and, hopefully, give each one a slightly different sound. With the first record, there was Anna Lynne Williams on vocals for a couple of songs, and Lloyd Hanney of God Is An Astronaut on drums. For this one, the live drums on five tracks were handled by Gavin Harrison of The Pineapple Thief, King Crimson, and Porcupine Tree. He’s my absolute favorite drummer, so he was the first person I thought of when I decided that some of the songs could benefit from real drums. I originally was thinking of just one or two songs, but once I heard how good he made them sound, I kept asking him do more, which, thankfully, he agreed to. His playing added a whole new dimension to the songs, particularly on ‘Hypneurotic’, where he plays two different full drum kit takes, panned left and right, to achieve a kind of ‘double drummer’ effect.”

“Everything Is Free” – the closing track and only one on the record to include vocals – is a cover of a Gillian Welch and David Rawlings song from 2001. “Fates Warning were thinking about doing some cover tunes as bonus tracks for ‘Long Day Good Night’ (2020), and when that didn’t happen, I kept this one in mind for a future project. It seemed to fit nicely here, even though it’s an otherwise instrumental album, and the vocals are by Tim Bowness. Like Gavin, Tim is someone I’ve worked with in the past, with OSI and several other projects. He’s got a beautiful voice and his gentle delivery is just what I wanted for this one.”

The Blurred Horizon track-listing
1. Half Remembered
2. Near Light
3. Cwmwl
4. Where the Enemy Sleeps
5. Laudanum Dream
6. Hypneurotic
7. Later, Then Now

CRADLE OF FILTH will return to American shores this fall for the Lustmord and Tourgasm tour, featuring an epic full performance of the British band’s classic 1998 concept album Cruelty and the Beast for the first time ever, as well as an encore of other CRADLE OF FILTH fan favorites.

“It’s been far too long America, but soon we will return to haunt your shores again,” says vocalist Dani Filth. “We, as a band, are very much looking forward to coming back to the States and performing ‘Cruelty and the Beast’ in its entirety (plus some firm fan favourites), which was our earlier intention before the Pandemic reared its ugly head.”

Joining CRADLE OF FILTH will be 3Teeth and Once Human. “To say we’re very excited about this, plus the support of 3Teeth and Once Human is an overwhelming understatement!” Filth says.Says Once Human guitarist Logan Mader, “After nearly two years of being pent up, it’s time to let loose! We are beyond ready to hit the road and destroy stages this October supporting the mighty CRADLE OF FILTH and in support or our new single, ‘Deadlock,’ featuring Robb Flynn. Once Human’s new album will be out early ‘22, more singles to come!”

Released in 1998, the monumental Cruelty and the Beast is based on the legend of the Hungarian “blood countess” Elizabeth Báthory. Born into a prominent Hungarian family in 1560, Bathory went on to torture and kill an unknown number of women and girls – reportedly up to 650 – between 1590 and 1610. Despite evidence against her, Bathory was spared a death sentence by her family’s prominence and was sentenced to imprisonment at Čachtice Castle in Hungary (now Slovakia) until her death in 1614. Bathory is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most prolific female killer in history.

This harrowing tale was brought to life musically on Cruelty and the Beast, a grandiose endeavor that introduced a more gothic influence to the extreme metal band’s sound, with vocal choirs and string elements working in synch with CRADLE OF FILTH’s trademark guitar riffs and blast beats. To complete the vision, the band included guest narration by actress Ingrid Pitt, who played the role of Bathory in the 1971 Hammer cult classic Countess Dracula. The album also served as CRADLE OF FILTH’s formal introduction to North American, after already catching the ears of fans across the pond with their The Principle of Evil Made Flesh and Dusk and Her Embrace albums.

MAYHEM Release Visual Masterpiece for “Black Glass Communion”

Last month, MAYHEM released their already highly praised new EP “Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando”, which showcases the bands influences in the best possible way!

Now the most fearsome black metal band has teamed up with renowned filmmaker Zev Deans to create a visual masterpiece for the song “Black Glass Communion”.

The video premiere is set for 18.00pm CET today and can be screened HERE!

Zev Deans comments on the collaboration with MAYHEM as follows:

“When approaching a metal music video, some might roll their eyes and think to themselves ‘how many times do I have to watch a satanic ritual sacrifice before I see something new?’

But for any true Satanist, ritual is an essential part of life that you must repeat again and again with the same sincerity and enthusiasm that you brought to your first time. The very nature of ritual is that it is repetitive, a mantra, a drone that is echoed through different bodies and different times.

In my approach to BLACK GLASS COMMUNION, this truth was unwavering. Now, you must look deep into the depths of the black glass and see what emerges before you.”

The EP features cover versions of bands like DISCHARGE, DEAD KENNEDYS, RUDIMENTARY PENI and RAMONES.

The band also recruited BILLY MESSIAH and MANIAC, who took over vocal performances on two songs!

In addition to the cover versions, a previously unreleased track called “Voces Ab Alta” is featured on the EP, which continues the musical journey alongside “Black Glass Communion” and “Everlasting Dying Flame”, which were used as bonus tracks for the 2019 album “Daemon”.

The EP thus closes the capital, which was opened with the release of “Daemon” back in 2019 and illuminates the band once again in typical unusual and surprising-sounding way.

The US-street date for the physical formats is set for September 10th, 2021!

“Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando” (EP) can be ordered HERE and is available in various formats.

INTERNAL BLEEDING Premiere New Hyper-Violent Single ‘Overthrow Creation’

New York slam pioneers INTERNAL BLEEDING have premiered a hyper-violent new single, ‘Overthrow Creation’, available now via Unique Leader Records.

On the single, guitarist and founding member Chris Pervelis states: “For close to 30 years, we’ve tried to expand our sound without losing the core of who we are, and with ‘Overthrow Creation,’ I think we’ve achieved the ideal balance we’ve been striving towards. The song hits you hard as hell, but there are also moments of nuance and melody that keep things interesting.”

Stream ‘Overthrow Creation’ here: https://orcd.co/overthrowcreation

The new track comes as the first to feature new vocalist Steve Worley, whose ferocious vocal performance combines both an old-school Internal Bleeding feel and his aggressive style. He comments: “I pushed in a few different directions with this one, and I hope it does justice to both the song and our fans. I can’t wait to lay down tracks for the next album.”

Formed in 1991, Internal Bleeding spearheaded the formation of the slam genre, and ‘Overthrow Creation’ is a testament to that claim. It’s not just a non-stop assault of Internal Bleeding‘s often imitated hyper-violent slam groove. Instead, it’s much more than what fans come to expect from the band.

Riffs are forever, violence is forever, and Internal Bleeding reigns eternally. The band can’t wait to break necks every night on their US tour with Deicide, Kataklysm, and Begat the Nephilim.
