In all the silence, Finnish death doom masters, SWALLOW THE SUN, have written, recorded and mixed a new album called “Moonflowers”. It is done and ready and will be released on November 19th , 2021.

Along with some of the album formats, there will also come a full bonus album featuring very special instrumental versions of all the regular album tracks. This instrumental album has been composed for strings and recorded at Sipoo Church in Finland. The strings were performed by the group called “Trio NOX” from Finland.

Starting today, all these instrumental songs will be launched as animated videos, which were created by Dronicon Films. One by one every week, leading up to the first single release of the main album.

Watch the first video HERE!

Juha Raivio comments:

“I know well that I should not say this, but I deeply hate this album. I hate where it takes me, how it makes me feel and what it stands for me personally. I wish it wouldn’t. But for all its honesty I got no option than also love it. That is all that matters to me with the music anyway and it doesn’t matter how it makes me feel, as long as it does. For me this album is like a mirror of a deep self-disappointment. Even I still want to believe that there is and could be more than this in me. But I don’t need or want to talk more about it. After all music means so different things to each one of us by how we have walked our own paths, and that is a beautiful thing about music. There is no right or wrong.

After I had finished writing all the music for this record in the fall of 2020 I started to write these small instrumental versions of the album songs for the violin, viola, cello and piano. Mostly because I was wondering how it would feel like to hear all these songs first as these intimate versions instead of a full band album. It was really beautiful to see and hear these songs come alive in this way and form, recorded live in this big church in Finland. To be able to hear the echoes of this music reflecting from the church walls and feel the very soul of these old wooden instruments played by real people in this sacred place. Something about hearing the strings breathe this fragile beauty into these songs that carry so much pain otherwise. Now looking back, maybe I wrote these versions just for myself to be able to hear and feel at least some kind of a beauty and solace in these songs, maybe…

I wanted to create the cover art of this album myself this time, so it would stand as brutally honest for me as the music is. So I painted the moon on the ‘Moonflowers‘ cover with my own blood and I decorated it with the flowers I picked up and dried on the spring of 2016. Maybe it isn’t the most outstanding looking piece of art ever made in this world, but for me it is everything. I wasn’t going to write any new music before I would have moved towards the right direction in my life, but finally all this music just forced itself out of me during the long nights of this hope crushing and neverending lockdown prison. Something grew out from that void eventually and writing these songs made me think a lot about moonflowers that bloom at the darkest hour of the night, so that name felt right to call the album also.

All my love to you, take care.

-Juha Raivio-“

“Moonflowers” tracklist:

  1. Moonflowers Bloom In Misery
  2. Enemy
  3. Woven Into Sorrow
  4. Keep Your Heart Safe From Me
  5. All Hallows’ Grieve (Featuring Cammie Gilbert)
  6. The Void
  7. The Fight Of Your Life
  8. This House Has No Home

Raivio further states, “In other news, unfortunately our busy brother Jaani will step aside from the band at least for this new album cycle, but we are happy to tell that you can hear Jaani’s backing vocals on the new album anyway.”

Jaani Peuhu adds, “Sadly, Corona virus messed up everything including the release schedules of my bands. Both the Mercury Circle and Swallow The Sun albums are being released at the same time, making it impossible for me to tour with both bands. For this reason, I decided that it’d be better for me to solely focus on MC for this release cycle.

That being said, the upcoming Swallow The Sun album will be amazing, and

I am so happy we could still do it together. I wish the best of luck to

StS on their tour with it!

See you in the audience!

LOVE,

-Jaani”

Hungarian SHELL BEACH Release Video For ‘Hero’

Budapest’s Heavy Hitters SHELL BEACH have released Hero, the first new music in five years!

The track is the first to feature the band’s new vocalist Zoltán Bodóczy, a well recognised figure in the Hungarian underground scene and formerly of Grand Mexican Warlock. Hero also sees the return of original guitarist Viktor Sági. Bodóczy has played a major role in co-writing the band’s forthcoming new the record and his involvement has led them to expand their style dramatically. Dancing between post-hardcore, alternative and experimental rock genres, Shell Beach are almost impossible to categorise and  put into one box.

The music video for Hero was filmed on location at Tarnók Mine (Tárnoki Kőfejtö) in Hungary which was also a prominent filming location for Bladerunner 2049.

Zoltán Bodóczy comments on Hero: “This was the first track that was born out of the band’s new line-up. The lyrics follow the suffering of a man, but with a twist. Because of things we cannot resolve, we’re unable to move forward, carrying with ourselves the kind of baggage that makes it impossible to start over again.”

Recorded at Supersize Recording Studios and produced and mixed by founding member Attila Horváth, ’’Hero’ is the first taste of Shell Beach’s new album which will be announced soon and will be supported with a full European tour.

Founded by long-time friends, Shell Beach are no strangers to the European touring circuit with 6 European tours under their belt as well as appearances at several major European festivals. The band has toured Europe supporting ENTER SHIKARI and a handful of their own headline tours. Shell Beach has also graced the festival stages of GROEZROCK Festival (BE), SZIGET Festival (HU), ROCK FOR PEOPLE Festival (CZ), ELECTRIC CASTLE  (RO),  VOLT  Festival (HU), and many others. Touring helped mature the band’s sound and helped Shell Beach get further established as the most prominent band of the Hungarian and Budapest post-hardcore scenes leaving the band’s fanbase eagerly awaiting their forthcoming record.

Guitar player / Singer Masi Hukari backgrounds the song: “Deicidal Tendencies was the last song we wrote together for our upcoming debut release. (Never Meant to Save Us 20.8.2021) The song came together really quickly once our bassist Pekka Johansson showed us such a killer opening riff that we instantly went in to a collective windmill mosh mode!

Even though the title is tongue in cheek wordplay of two bands that are influential to us the topic of the song is pretty serious. I grew up in the Middle East in a very religiously charged situation and got to see how crazy and dangerous things can get when some one believes that they are more right than everybody else and justify atrocities with faith. Experiencing war is a great way to turn a young man in to a sceptic.”

APRIL 21ST Break Vicious Cycle with New “Decision” Music Video & Single

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 2, 2021

Brazil’s fast-rising metalcore band APRIL 21ST have just revealed a new music video and single for the song “Decision“. The video was produced by Lucas Akira. “Decision” is the second single from the band’s new EP entitled Courage Is Born from Fear which is scheduled for a worldwide release on September 10, 2021 via Eclipse Records. Watch it right now on YouTube:

“Decision is my favorite song from the new EP” says guitarist Herbert. “The morale of the song is that there is a solution for everything, but that solution cannot be realized unless a decision is made to change the future. Sometimes it is easy to make these decisions, and sometimes it is very difficult. For the video, we wanted to show people with a variety of emotions such as anger, despair, or sadness. They all have something in common which is the need to make a big decision in their lives. They don’t know if the result will be good or bad, bring pleasure or pain, victory or defeat. They are stuck in a cycle of uncertainty. Eventually, they must all decide, if they should ignore the decision and continue their struggle with uncertainty, or if they should break this vicious cycle of indecision in their lives and take a chance on improving their lives.“

The band’s new EP album Courage Is Born from Fear consists of five intense and honest songs. The EP was produced by Bruno Barros at the renowned Sonasterio studios in the beautiful mountains of Minas Gerais, Brazil, mixed by Arthur Damasio, and mastered by Joseph McQueen at Sparrow Sound (As I Lay Dying, Bad Wolves, Light the Torch). The cover art for the album was designed by Lucas Akira.

The first single “Healing my Wounds” contains a harmony element that redefines what a verse riff might be, while the second single “Decision”, spotlights the fastest and tightest bass drum hummingbird 16ths in a blast beat that we ever might have the pleasure of hearing (and feeling right down to the marrow). “Struggling to Break This Cycle” explodes through our headphones with enough drive and funk to satisfy the most serious of metal freaks, and “Stand up and Scream” features a platform guitar solo that is the epitome of melody and speed in a glorious hybrid.
