STIFF LITTLE FINGERS Release Archival CD/DVD Set, ‘Live At Rockpalast 1980/1989’

The longest-tenured Irish punk band is undoubtedly STIFF LITTLE FINGERS – who have been bashing and thrashing since 1977. And the double-disc set, Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989 – released on June 25, 2021 – shows that the band remained a vital live band (and also, stayed true to their roots) throughout the ‘80s, despite a five-year hiatus smack dab in the middle of the decade.

And you can view/hear samples via these links:

Trailer:

“Barbed Wire Love”:

“Alternative Ulster”:

Singer/guitarist Jake Burns has been the band’s leader since their inception – with bassist Ali McMordie standing right alongside Jake most of the time – which saw Stiff Little Fingers being a part of the first-wave of Euro punk bands, which included the lofty likes of the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and the Damned, the Buzzcocks, the Jam, etc. And in the process, Stiff Little Fingers issued such classic punk LP’s as Inflammable Material, Nobody’s Heroes, and Go for It, plus the punk anthems “Alternative Ulster,” “Suspect Device,” and “At the Edge.”

Comprised of a total of three discs, Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989 will certainly satisfy both your audio and visual needs – the first two discs are audio-only, featuring the 1980 and 1989 performances, while the third disc is a DVD of the group’s classic 1980 appearance on Germany’s long-running music show.

And the performance remains memorable all these years later for the band, as Jake recalls:

“We were all well aware of what a great show Rockpalast was, having seen quite a few while touring in Europe, so we were delighted to be asked to appear. We got there a day early and went to the venue as our friends, UFO, were playing. It was a great insight into the audience’s perspective. And a little bit daunting as we hadn’t realized how big the auditorium was! However, we needn’t have worried as the next evening the place was packed and the audience were with us from the first note. They were wonderful, singing and bouncing along. It really felt like a “home game” to use a football analogy. I thought we played really well too, apart from a slight timing mistake during “Back to Front”, a new song we were still learning. (See if you can spot my giving Jim the “look of death” at that point! LOL!)We rounded the night off in our hotel bar with another bunch of friends, The Jam, who were also on the bill. It’s a show and audience I remember with great affection. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be a part of the Rockpalast story.”

With Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989, Stiff Little Fingers fans now have the ultimate live document of the band at their in-concert peak.

Melbourne’s THE UGLY KINGS Premiere New Song “The Devil Comes With A Smile”

August 13, 2021 will see Australia based alternative rockers THE UGLY KINGS release their new and hotly anticipated album, Strange, Strange Times, via Napalm Records.

Following 2018’s Darkness Is My Home, which was lauded by the likes of Classic Rock Magazine and Loud Mag upon release, with Strange, Strange Times, the four- piece is poised to turn heads and continues to infuse their foreboding alt-rock with blackened blues and gritty punk edge! THE UGLY KINGS may channel the flavor of groups like Queens Of The Stone Age and Danzig, but their revitalizing infusion of dark energy is evident while preserving razor sharp, daringly introspective control with clever lyricism, addictive riffage, catchy melodies and a heavy power blues flavor.

After THE UGLY KINGS just recently shared a first song, the punk-infused single “Technodrone”, today the band released a second appetizer taken from Strange, Strange Times! On smoldering blues rock standout “The Devil Comes With A Smile”, THE UGLY KINGS flex their musical muscles, taking you on a dusty road trip to the outback with the bitter taste of nicotine and whiskey in your mouth. Once more, the Melbourne powerhouse showcases their ability to distort hard blues rock into dark, unique territories. Watch the brand new video clip for “The Devil Comes With A Smile”here:

Beware of false promises and easy answers,“ says vocalist Russell Clark about the band’s new single. “The Devil Comes With A Smile is about powerful people that exploit our weaknesses and manipulate us with their charm; twisting the world in their own image.”

Each song on their new album is about a different state of mind in this strange, strange time. Both lyrically and musically, THE UGLY KINGS have created a captivating and enthralling ride, and in a scene in which gimmick-free, angsty, inspired rock n’ roll is becoming increasingly difficult to come by, Strange, Strange Times is a breath of welcomed, yet strange, strange air.

Coming out in LP, CD and Digital formats on August 13, 2021 via Napalm Records, the album pre-sale is available at THIS LOCATION!

Strange, Strange Times Tracklisting:

  1. Strange, Strange Times
  2. Technodrone
  3. Do You Feel Like You’re Paranoid?
  4. In The Shadows
  5. Last Man Left Alive
  6. Lawman
  7. Electric Lady (My Kryptonite)
  8. The Devil Comes With A Smile
  9. Mr. Hyde
  10. Another Fucking Day

DEFIANT Release New EP ‘The Rent In Hell Is Free’, Out July 16th

DEFIANT are set to release their second EP The Rent In Hell Is Free on July 16, 2021 via Curtain Call Records. The EP features guest appearances by Ace Von Johnson (L.A. Guns/Faster Pussycat), Richard Reilly (The Bo Deadlys/The Victims) and Jim Taylor (Lenne).

The first single and music video “Free for A Price” is currently impacting airwaves. The band describes the new EP as cut throat, no nonsense intensity emoting apathy, anger, sorrow and fear mixed with a tablespoon of sugar to help it go down. We pulled no punches and left no risk untaken over the two- year period of writing and recording this EP and we are extremely proud to finally release it to the world.

Boldly resisting authority…like the definition of its name, Curtain Call Records recording artist Defiant has set out to ignore any rules or standards in hard rock music. The 4-piece band from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania infuses elements of punk, alternative, classic rock and heavy metal to form its own unique brand of music.

Formed in 2018, Defiant has built a reputation with their high octane live shows playing on bills throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia with the likes of From Ashes to New, The Texas Hippie Coalition, Kix, L.A. Guns, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Tantric and Otep among others.

The band is comprised of Albert Halterman (vocals and guitar), Joe Defiant (guitar) Paul Barlowski (bass) and Paul Cochran (drums).

Defiant 2021 Tour Dates:
July 17 – Harrisburg, PA XL Live (CD Release Show)
August 21 – Strausstown, PA Pat Garrett Amphitheater (w/ Puddle of Mudd)
August 28 – Pipestem, WV Metal In The Mountains Festival
September 9 – Harrisburg, PA HMAC (Fozzy Pre and After Party)
October 9 – Lebanon, PA The Church

“ELEGANCE OF IRONY” STREAM

GROZA’s “Elegance of Irony” follows their previously released title track “The Redemptive End.” Listen to it here: https://youtu.be/hUhHKuAY2cE

As the world stands still, paralyzed and numb with fear, German black metal collective GROZA breaks the deafening silence to unveil their second full length album “The Redemptive End” – capturing the current times devastating atmosphere of utmost hopelessness and resignation.

Founded as a one-man project by singer / guitarist P.G. in 2016, the band grew towards a full band in the following two years, culminating in the birth of their first effort – “Unified In Void” (2018). With its revelation through AOP Records, a storm was spawned to consume everything and everyone crossing its path, relentlessly raging with passion and wrath during many live rituals on tours and festivals all over Europe.

Although the familiar rumble and chants of raw anger and despair continue to drone unabated on the successor, GROZA’s sound also explores new frontiers on the band’s latest album. For the first time, clean, even post-rock inspired passages shine deceptive rays of light through the dark, only to be devoured by searing melodies, drenched in sorrow and hopelessness and devastated by raging storms of blast beats, in the very next moments.

“The Redemptive End” was recorded during the summer / autumn of 2020. Recorded and mixed by P.G. and mastered with the help of Michael Kraxenberger (Sick Of Sound), the six tracks of the album encapsulate the prevailing state of numbing isolation and desperation in sonic format.

“The Redemptive End” Tracklisting:
1. Sunken In Styx – Part 1: Submersion
2. Sunken In Styx – Part II: Descent
3. Elegance of Irony
4. The Redemptive End
5. Nil
6. Homewards

EYEHATEGOD released A History Of Nomadic Behavior in March via Century Media Records. The record followed a period that saw the band on the road for three years, preceded by vocalist Mike IX Williams suffering liver failure and a transplant. The album was produced by Eyehategod, Sanford Parker (Yob, Voivod), and James Whitten (Thou, High On Fire), with mixing by Whitten. The band recorded at HighTower Recording and Hypercube Studios.

EYEHATEGOD is the snarling, bilious sound of dead-end America. Since 1988, they’ve been a soundtrack for the troubled masses. Pitchfork dubbed them the, “quintessential Southern sludge band,” Rolling Stone crowned them one of, “America’s great live bands,” while Thrasher called them, “true musical pioneers in every sense of the word.” Anyone familiar with EYEHATEGOD’s trajectory knows this is survivor’s music, a sound unto itself where Sabbathian riffs are meted out with a caustic anger that goes beyond punk. That’s been the blueprint since guitarist Jimmy Bower (also of NOLA supergroup, Down) founded the band in 1988 with vocalist Mike IX Williams joining not long after. With a discography including sludge-punk mainstays like In The Name Of Suffering (1990), Take As Needed For Pain (1993) Dopesick (1996), Confederacy Of Ruined Lives (2000) and 2014’s eponymous LP, released in the US through Housecore Records, EYEHATEGOD laid the cracked foundation for their infamous and influential sound. The band is rounded out by bassist Gary Mader and drummer Aaron Hill.
