Following up on their 2018 their “Ascension” album, A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS return with ‘Say You Love Me’, the lead single from their new album, the second installment of their Orchestral Hits opus. ‘String Theory’ includes 11 new recordings of some of their classic hits and fan favorites.

The ‘Say You Love Me’ single comes with a eight different versions, remixes and a music video. The track is full to the brim of soaring strings, uplifting grooves and widescreen scope. Mikes positive message in the vocals knitting the new recording together with aplomb. Remixes are both of the 80s style “extended” variety and also newly reproduced versions, with Soda Pimps offering a electronic diversion on the track.

A Flock Of Seagulls may well be known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as much as their hit single “I Ran”. A Flock Of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the 80’s new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement. Hairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards) formed A Flock Of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later.. “Telecommunication” became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The band signed a major-label contract with Jive by the end of the year, and their eponymous debut album appeared in the spring of 1982. “I Ran (So Far Away)” was released as the first single from the album, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video, which featured long shots of Mike Score and his distinctive, cascading hair. The single climbed into the American Top Ten, taking the album along with it. In the UK, “I Ran” didn’t make the Top 40, but “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” reached number ten later that year; in America, that single became a Top 40 hit in 1983, after “Space Age Love Song” peaked at number 30. “Wishing” was taken from the group’s second album “Listen” in 1983. The band released 1984’s “The Story of A Young Heart” which fielded the hit “The More You Live, The More You Love”.

A Flock Of Seagulls are famous for their music but also famous for their references in popular culture from TV (Ross’s Haircut in Friends), Computer Games (“I Ran” was the standout track on Grand Theft Auto Radio), Film (The band and haircut are referenced in Pulp Fiction, X-Men and The Wedding Singer) . This cemented the bands reputation and brought the band to a whole new legion of fans.

In 2003, the original line-up of Mike, Ali, Frank and Paul reunited for a one-off performance on the VH1 series Bands Reunited. In September 2004, they reformed again and did a brief tour in the United States. From 2004 to 2021 Mike was as busy as ever touring the band around the world. In 2018 the band appeared on record together for their “Ascension” album. The original members all appear on record together for ‘String Theory’.

Get the party started with the hottest metal tribute to The Bee Gees and beyond! New York based cover song reinventors TRAGEDY sweat glitter with their heavy metal induced interpretation of all time disco, soft-rock and pop favorites on their remastered “best-of” album, Disco Balls to the Wall (out July 30 via Napalm Records), and fuel the party feeling even more with the new single “Sweet Caroline”!

Dive into TRAGEDY’s mind-blowing interpretation of the Neil Diamond anthem, including heavy riffs and organ, and follow the band deep into the woods of their music video. But beware, you might get lost, as you’ll never imagine what happened there…

Watch the story of when TRAGEDY met “Sweet Caroline”HERE:

[Shot in the woods and at the Church of Satan, in Kenvil NJ – Directed by Peter Kohl – Director of Photography: Eric Giovan]

Did TRAGEDY get turned into vampires? And what does Neil Diamond have to do with this?

TRAGEDY says:
“This is the true story of when we went into the woods to shoot a music video, then things turned all Blair Witch and True Blood on us. An unlikely scenario, for sure. But no more unlikely than a metal tribute to the Bee Gees doing a King Neil Diamond song! The chilling tale of when “sweet” Caroline and her creatures set their sights on a group of innocent, handsome, muscular musicians, luring them to their untimely undeaths.”

Pre-Order Disco Balls to the Wall NOW

It doesn’t matter if you love or hate disco or metal – you will unabashedly love TRAGEDY and their bombastic, crazy mix of disco, metal, glitter and revelry! The band’s first offering with Napalm Records will include TRAGEDY’s unique twist on hits such as Abba’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” and “Dancing Queen”, Toto’s “Africa”, Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” and Adele’s intense super-hymn ”Skyfall”, just to name a few. These fearsome brothers drop the perfect selection of all-time favorite disco, soft-rock and pop favorites – completely reimagining them as glorious, red-hot heavy metal treatments.

Get your body shaking when TRAGEDY start to rock out with The Bee Gee’s “How Deep Is Your Love”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “Tragedy”, and headbang to the tunes of Slayer’s heavy riffing thrash thunder “Raining Blood” combined with “It’s Raining Men” from American duo The Weather Girls in a way absolutely never heard before. Disco Balls to the Wall is finally topped by a smashing live version of Donna Summer’s fabulous “Hot Stuff”, featuring Alex Skolnick of Testament on lead guitar.

TRAGEDY adds:
“Disco Balls to the Wall is the biggest, sexiest collection of hits we’ve ever released. It’s as if the Bee Gees turned into werewolves, ate some teens, then bred with the local dog population; thus creating the world’s most beastly recordings of disco and soft-rock songs ever made. Sharing this album with your friends and lovers will make you 500% more desirable.”

Back in 2015, TRAGEDY broke the internet with the viral video for their energetic take on the Grease soundtrack classic, “You’re the One That I Want”.

Modern progressive metal band OBSIDIOUS is now releasing a behind the scenes look at the making of their latest music video for the song “Iconic.” The track is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album, which will be released via the label in early 2022. The video is available for watching via the official Season of Mist YouTube channel HERE!

OBSIDIOUS bassist Linus Klausenitzer comments: “The ‘Iconic’ music video reflects the different musical aspects and the intensity of the song perfectly. It was quite a challenge to shoot it with a singer that we still haven’t met because of corona restrictions. But in the end we were able to create a concept without making any unsatisfying compromises.”

June 30th, EUGE VALOVIRTA (Cyhra, Red Wolf) released his second solo album ‘Shooting From The Hip’, including 10 songs of guitar driven instrumentals from Van Halen – style 80’s rock, “Hillbilly” – chicken pickin’ fireworks to groovy metal and one ballad dedicated to all our absent friends.

Available on all major digital platforms.
Listen / download the album: https://bit.ly/3u69oo0

Watch the playthrough music video of ‘Pasadena ’78’:

“All songs from the album are based on the song ideas I’ve written for a particular video about a certain amp, effect pedal etc. for my YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/c/EugeValovirta230V ) except ‘A Song For An Absent Friend’ which I wrote to my grandpa and to my friend Alexi after they passed away. “

“I just love to play guitar and I hope this album brings good vibes & comfort to people like playing guitar always brings to me.”

“Pasadena ‘78 is my tribute to the late great Eddie Van Halen. Van Halen was founded in Pasadena and their first album came out in 1978 so the title comes from that. I tried to capture the mood of the carefree days of youth and the vibe of the classic 80s glam rock / hair metal and those endless Californian summers which we all just dreamed during the long & cold winters in Finland :-). Long live King Edward and his fantastic music.”

‘Shooting From The Hip’ tracklist:

  1. Scary Frankie
  2. Bogrenious
  3. Pasadena ’78
  4. The Bad Boy
  5. This Box Is Too Small
  6. The Flame Is Burning
  7. Three-Legged Chicken
  8. Uncle Joe
  9. Young Forever
  10. A Song For An Absent Friend

Finnish ALASE Release Beautiful Single And Music Video ‘Ajan Kysymys’

Finnish ALASE have released an atmospheric single “Ajan kysymys”, after which the band will switch their lyrical language to English. The single will be released together with a music video made by Vesa Ranta‘s Kaira Films.

“Ajan kysymys” combines Alase’s main musical elements such as melancholy, modern atmospheric soundscapes, progressiveness and heavy riffs. The band will continue to work with guest vocalists, however this is singer Juha Tretjakov‘s third song with Alase.

Guitarist Janne Lunnas describes: “Working with Juha is fun and it involves creativity which clearly enhances the song through the vocal arrangements.” The song was recorded with session drummer Ville Aatsinki and it was a very straightforward process.

Janne describes the session with Ville: “Before the studio, Ville and I worked on the drum arrangements remotely and it went really smoothly. After less than two weeks, we went to studio in Tampere, and Ville nailed the song with just a few takes.”

Alase has the composition of the next song ready and its recordings will start soon. There are plans to release a single called “Unburden” in the fall.

SYLVAINE Enters Studio to Record Fourth Full-Length Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on July 1, 2021

Scandinavian multi-instrumentalist SYLVAINE has entered the studio to record the follow up full-length to 2018’s Norwegian Grammy nominated ‘Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone!’ The album will be released early 2022 by Season of Mist.

SYLVAINE comments: “You could definitely say that the creation of this 4th Sylvaine album has taken an unconventional path in many ways. After the realization of ‘Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone,’ I knew that making the next record was going to take a lot out of me. Little did I know just how much though, with 2020 bringing forth some of the most challenging times I have experienced so far in my life. It took me a while to gather everything and channel it into songs that would express all of these emotions I had been carrying around with me for some time.

“One thing was completely certain from the beginning of the process; Benoît Roux at Drudenhaus was going to be the person I brought the record to life with. It’s so important to work with people who just get what you are trying to communicate with your art, even without having to say a single word. That for me is Benoît. He just understands. Not to mention the human side, which is fantastic as well, something that becomes extremely important when spending so much time together for 2 months straight! I almost felt like a part of his family by the end, haha.

“The recording process was heavily prolonged compared to what we initially planned. Between the travel restrictions, everyone contracting Covid during the first weeks of the recording process and personal circumstances related to Benoît, we were forced to extend our time spent recording this album. If it wasn’t one obstacle making things complicated, there was another one just around the corner, waiting for us, haha…. But that didn’t faze me to be honest. I was just so grateful to finally be back in the studio, doing what I love the most once again. We spent just over 2 months in the end, recording and starting the mixing for this fourth album. It was an incredibly intense time, even more so being completely on my own for most of it. My drummer for the album, Dorian Mansiaux, also my on-stage drummer, was with me for the first days of the session, laying down his parts. I also have two guests on the album, that I’ll be revealing later on. I feel privileged to have all of these talented people involved with this record, making it even more special to me. Can’t tell you how excited I am to share this album with everyone – I put every piece of my soul into it. “

Last year, SYLVAINE was nominated for a Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Award, for the 2018 full-length ‘Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone.’ SYLVAINE is the very first woman ever to be nominated in the Metal category of the award since the Spellemannprisen’s inception in 1972.

‘Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone’ can be streamed, downloaded, and ordered HERE.

A strong duality between worlds. A balance between the beautiful and the harsh, serenity and chaos, between an outside and an inner world, between our human life and the spiritual origins.

Norwegian multi-instrumentalist SYLVAINE deals with the extreme range of emotions this human existence has to offer, as a result of being in constant conflict with oneself and struggling to adapt to this place we call our own. The project serves as an emotional catharsis for the artist, revealing the eternal longing for something more residing within its melodies, capturing the feeling of being trapped and restraint by the human form.

After a year of playing selected, successful concerts around Europe together with her live band, like the European tour with Austrian post-metal outfit HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY and a headlining tour in Russia/Ukraine tour, SYLVAINE once again entered the renown Drudenhaus Studio in France during autumn 2017 to start the recording of her new creation, “Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone”. Together with recording and mixing engineer Benoît Roux and her two session musicians, Stephen Shepard and Stéphane “Neige” Paut (ALCEST), SYLVAINE pushes the duality between beautiful and extreme even further on her third album, bringing the concept behind the project to new heights. The album mastered by Jack Shirley (DEAFHEAVEN, OATHBREAKER) at Atomic Garden in San Francisco (US).

Still serving as the sole composer of both music and lyrics, producer and musician of most instruments herself, SYLVAINE takes the sound of her sophomore album “Wistful” (2016) and develops it into a more mature and contrasted form on “Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone”, all while trying to communicate the essence of her project, which remains the same as always before.

Now enter the cold and icy world of “Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone”, and let yourself be enveloped by its pressing despair.
