THE ABSENCE Guitarist Taylor Nordberg Releases Play-Through of “Choirs Of Sickness”

Florida-based melodic death metal quartet, THE ABSENCE have released a play-through video from guitarist Taylor Nordberg (also of INHUMAN CONDITION, GOREGÄNG, FORE) for their latest single, “Choirs Of Sickness”, which will be on their upcoming album “Coffinized” out June 25th on M-Theory Audio.

Nordberg says, “Check it out, guys! Here’s a play-through video I did for our new tune, “Choirs Of Sickness”.  Rather than playing along to the song, I figured it would be more fun to jam with the rhythm section, and to re-record the guitar tracks in rock and roll live takes for the video, warts and all!  Of course, let’s be honest, most of you really just want to see puppy videos, so we got the Kling’s dog, Rooster June to make a guest appearance.”

THE ABSENCE first burst onto the scene in 2005 with their crushing, Erik Rutan-produced Metal Blade debut, “From Your Grave.” The album and its two follow-ups, 2007’s “Riders of the Plague” and 2010’s “Enemy Unbound,” showcased a perfect mixture of heart-wrenching melodies and skull-pounding aggression, truly making them one of the premiere bands of the melodic death metal scene. THE ABSENCE further cemented their reputation via numerous tours supporting some of the biggest names in metal, including Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, Sabaton, Goatwhore, Evergrey, Malevolent Creation, Kataklysm and Destruction. Following a lengthy hiatus, the band regrouped in 2016 with a new lineup uniting founding members Stewart and Kling with longtime bassist Leon and guitarists Nordberg and Joey Concepcion for “A Gift for The Obsessed.” (Concepcion appears on four tracks on “Coffinized.”)

Track List:
Coffinized
Future Terminal
Choirs of Sickness
Radiant Devestation
Cathedral Dawn
Black Providence
Discordia
Treacherous
This Consuming Nocturne
Aperture Expands
Faith in Uncreation

MOONLIGHT HAZE Release Video for ‘Enigma’

MOONLIGHT HAZE have released a video for the song ‘Enigma’, the new single taken from their latest album ‘Lunaris’ (2020).

This is how singer Chiara Tricarico commented: “‘Enigma’ is the most mysterious song by Moonlight Haze. I really think that the video suits the misty atmosphere of the song very well: it includes many symbols, metaphors, and a nice kicker at the end of it. I’m sure it will take the audience on an interesting, introspective journey in the depths of the sub-consciousness, featured by Latin quotes and wordplays in our native language.”

‘Lunaris’ has been mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (DGM) at Domination Studios and includes a guest appearance by Fabio Lethien Polo (Elvenking). The stunning cover artwork was made by Beatrice Demori (as on ‘De Rerum Natura’, the 2019 Moonlight Haze debut album).

CVLT OV THE SVN Release Final Single ‘We Are The Dragon’ From Upcoming Album

Finally, there’s a cvlt worth joining: May 7, 2021 will see mysterious Finnish dark occult rock act CVLT OV THE SVN release its grim and addictive first full length, We Are The Dragon, on Napalm Records. Embodying a reverberating sense of eeriness, danger and fear, enriched with a pinch of gothic romanticism and pitch-black seduction, CVLT OV THE SVN’s enthralling debut feels dangerously unsettling, lacing its churning heaviness with catchy melodies that travel right through your ears to your central nervous system!

With the unveiling of previously-released goth-boppers like “Twilight”, “The Pit”, “Whore Of Babylon”, “Luna In The Sky Forever”, “My Venom” and just recently, the heavy dark rock anthem “Hellbound”, CVLT OV THE SVN have already proven how to successfully merge seething heaviness and sweet pop melodies. Today, the band has released a final single for the album opener and title track! “We Are The Dragon” paves the way for a dangerous yet intriguing journey into the frenetic vortex of CVLT OV THE SVN. Like a captivating horror film, the song’s creepy mood takes your breath away, drawing your attention to every note and detail. Get lost in this occult rock and dark pop maelstrom, and watch the brand new video clip here:

“’We Are The Dragon’ was one of the first COTS songs ever to see the light of day and earned the role of ‘title track’ immediately,” the anonymous visionary behind CVLT OV THE SVN reveals. “Also, as the opener for the album, the first lyrics that people would eventually hear when giving it a spin were very important to me. ‘We are the darkness and decay’ is a proper line to begin the album with. A straightforward rock n’ roll anthem depicting the darkness itself.”

Inspired by movies like The Exorcist and the all devouring darkness itself, CVLT OV THE SVN draws inspiration not only from the heavy rock genre and greats like Type O Negative, Ghost and Turbonegro, but the nostalgic influences of mainstream artists like Roxette as well.
Conceptually conveying a variety of extreme emotions, each of the album’s twelve enthralling tracks cut through the noise of society like a razorblade, leaving a long-lasting impression on the listener that’ll have them clamoring for more.

In addition to the macabre thrills of their music, there’s also the character the band’s mysterious frontman takes on stage, twisting the dagger of perception even further like your favorite horror flick and making for a combined experience that cuts deep and close to the bone.

“It’s easier to tell those grim stories through another identity, another character,” the creative cvlt leader recently said. “Black cloaks just go with it, obviously. I’m a big fan of suspense and this kind of content is all about the surprises. I find it is an intriguing realm to explore. Whatever lies ahead, CVLT OV THE SVN will adapt and thrive.”

We Are The Dragon Tracklisting:
01. We Are The Dragon
02. My Venom
03. Don’t Be Tender Love Me Cruel
04. Hellbound

Blackened industrial doom collective CULTED is now sharing the official music video for their faithful cover of Godflesh’s iconic song, “Crush My Soul.” The video, which was created entirely by the band, can be found at THIS LOCATION.

The band comments, “We are longtime admirers of Godflesh’s body of sound and have attempted to respectfully interpret and do justice to an incredible song. ‘Crush My Soul’ was the first music we recorded for the album ‘Nous’ and in many ways laid the emotive foundation for its modus operandi. We heartily agree with Decibel Magazine who eloquently stated, ‘In a parallel universe, [Crush My Soul] would be the name of the album.”

Split Screen Management has a pleasure to announce the signing of Tokyo based “Samurais from Hell” SURVIVE – active in the world for over 20 years!

SURVIVE’s frontman Nemo on the signing:
“We have signed a management contract with Split Screen, and that means we will be active from Japan to Europe in the future. I am confident that I will use the experience of the European tour and Split Screen staff to realize a very unique idea. I would like to overcome this pandemic with the primary goal of releasing a new sound source in Europe.”

Furthermore SURVIVE have announced their first special performance stream “SURVIVE LIVE AT DEATH VALLEY” taking place on June 12th! More information below.

With numerous gigs home and abroad under their belt, SURVIVE continued to expand their base in spite of the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Last summer they released their first digital single “The Road to Hell is Paved by Goodwill”. In addition, on YouTube, they have streamed live talk sessions of all members, as well as playthrough videos of guitar and drums.

And finally, they are streaming a live performance! Entitled “SURVIVE LIVE AT DEATH VALLEY”, the event will showcase the band at a magnificent setting of a 50-meter precipitous cliff. With the beauty constantly next do death, the location radiates the energy of wild nature, precisely creating the atmosphere of “death valley”.

Instead of “live streaming”, the performance will be pre-recorded, edited and go through production before getting streamed. The band is right in the making of the video right now. NEMO on vocal/guitar says:
“In the current circumstances where is has become difficult to actually experience our sound live at venues, we decided to do this because we wanted to offer a special experience for our fans, something different from our usual gigs, by streaming a thoroughly produced visual and audio work of art.”

The performance will feature eight songs including “HUMAN MISERY” from 2015 and the latest single “The Road to Hell is Paved by Goodwill”, along with the behind-the-scenes documentary footage of the dress rehearsal and an interview with the band.

The EP includes also a re-recorded new version for “Rules of Lies” from “Human Misery” album (2015).

Tokyo’s Thrash Heroes SURVIVE – active in the world for over 20 years – have forged their own indelible path within the jmetal scene. It was back in 1998, when former Death File guitarist and mastermind Nemo decided to form a thrash metal band of his own which soon became the juggernaut known as SURVIVE. Over the next two decades the band have played many big festivals (Loud Park, Beast Fest, Multiplex-motorbike event, Korean Live Rock, Formoz Festival, Asia Metal Festival, Dongducheon Rock Festival, Trendkill Extreme Feast, etc) and toured all over the world with acts such as Behemoth, United, Killswitch Engage, Dope, Pulling Teeth, Testament, Outrage, Anthrax, Hatebleed, Napalm Death, Amon Amarth, Venom Inc, At The Gates, to name just a few, cementing their place in Japanese metal history. Still going strong, SURVIVE‘s latest album “Immortal Warriors” was released to the Japanese market on September 12th, 2018 and a year later, on September 24th 2019, the album is out worldwide via Sliptrick Records. SURVIVE have lost none of their verve and “Immortal Warriors” is an absolute must for fans of this fantastic, often overlooked band.

Interview: DREGEN Enters The Beer Industry Launching RIFF

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 3, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Dregen, RIFF. Leave a comment

Interview by Jesper Lindgren

Swedish musician DREGEN is best known as the guitarist of The Hellacopters and Backyard Babies. Now he’s entered the beer industry with his RIFF. Just recently Jesper Lindgren from Velvet Insane conducted an interview with Dregen, talking about his beer, RIFF.

Jesper Lindgren:
“We have previously reported and written about Dregen and his path in the brewing industry with the beer RIFF. He is now up to date with more drinks, and soon more music. I had a chat with Dregen to talk about beer, but also about entrepreneurship & art.”

How did the project start with Riff?

It started with Motörhead releasing their beer a few years ago, many had probably released drinks before but it was the first band I saw releasing alcohol products. I have received many inquiries over the years but the time has not been right, and so I want to go into the project 100% – in everything from the design of the bottles to taste etc. Then came the pandemic and then the schedule opened up and I got a request from a brewery and jumped on, a fun project. Riff was released last summer and went very well right away, growing a bit out of the shoes of the then brewery. I always want to develop, always see how far you can take things so when I ran at Nyckelbryggerier it felt right. They seem to be passionate about the product and do not want it to be one in the crowd, it is a good situation for RIFF now.

Tell us more about the beers, why just an IPA, Lager and Alcohol-free?

When I changed brewery, I wanted a fresh start and expand the family. Make a package, a bit like when you release a record when you have a single and video as well. Beer is so big that you can do different projects and limited editions; Christmas beer and summer beer etc. There is a lot of creative you can do and it suits me as a musician and artist as well.
I still buy vinyl because I love the aesthetic and if I had to choose between two LPs, I always buy the one that looks best. If the record looks really good, the music will be better and it’s the same think with beer, except that here it’s bubbles instead of dist.

Tell us about the name RIFF?

My son’s name is RIFF in second name and the name is really good.

What do the RIFF beverage projects mean to you and what are the goals?

I think it’s damn fun but I have no plans to re-saddle but drive small goals now. The first step is to get the “family” out and then, when you get out and tour again, you will see fans drinking RIFF in, for example, Spain at a bar after a gig. Getting the beer out for export would be a dream.

How involved have you been in the process of the beers?

I have been involved in almost everything from labels to taste. I wanted a brown longneck bottle and the inspiration is a retro feeling. A bit like a pilsner movie or like an old medicine jar type from the time when the pharmacy once started. I have worked with Björn Rallare with the labels and he understands me and my ideas. The stock was more “special” in taste when we made it at the previous brewery and now it is more traditional and classic. The IPA is incredibly good and I am not an IPA lover, but this one is less floral. Then you want a good beer but be able to take the car afterwards, so we chose to make it alcohol-free. You want to see RIFF on the shelves in all stores.
