BEFORE THE DAWN Unleash Brand New Music Video ‘Final Storm’, “Deadlight” To Be Re-Released

Combining the heaviness of melodic death metal, the gloom of dark metal and the frostbitten cold of finnish winters with beautiful melodies and epic hymnody like no other band out there, BEFORE THE DAWN have paved their way to uniqueness. Founded in 1999 by Death and Gothic Doom Metal icon Tuomas Saukkonen as his solo project and with a back catalogue of 7 studio albums and several EP & single releases to date, Before the Dawn became Finland’s ultimate flagship of melodic death metal. With countless live shows around the globe, chart positions and award nominations, the band was laid to rest on January 10th 2013 through a press statement by Tuomas Saukkonen and in order to concentrate on his new project “Wolfheart“, which he has been pushing higher and higher in the metal scene ladders with 5 albums and heavy touring in Asia, North America, South America and Europe.

With an ongoing busy schedule and a complete focus on Wolfheart (except for the release of “Waves” by Dawn of Solace, the long awaited 2nd album after 14years), out of nothing the world and its live shows got turned upside down in the the year of 2020, which became the perfect opportunity for Saukkonen to take a trip on the memory lane and to reach out to old friends and to do something special and unexpected. As emails turned into studio days, Before the Dawn suddenly wrote a brand new song, with the original line-up from 2007, and announced the re-release of their most successful album and timeless masterpiece, “Deadlight”, on July 9th via Finnish label Stay Heavy Records.

“Definitely one of the best things of 2020 was joining forces with my old friends and brothers in arms Lars and Juho, the line-up behind BTD Deadlight album that saw the light of the day 2007. Years have gone by but the same magic is still there” Tuomas Saukkonen comments.

Encompassing all of the elements the band is known for, Before the Dawn‘s first single in 9 long years is once again a track full of memorability, ambition and top-notch musicianship, and one that will most likely make every fan’s heart beat faster.

CODE Debut New Track ‘Rat King’ From Upcoming Album

As the release date of CODE‘s fifth full-length album “Flyblown Prince” edges closer, Dark Essence Records have today revealed a second track from the album.

Titled “Rat King”, the track can be downloaded or streamed from a number of platforms at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/CODE_RatKing

Unlike the previously released track “The Mad White Hair” (which is available at  https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Code_TheMadWhiteHair), “Rat King” is perhaps more familiar territory for CODE’s fans, as the band explains:

After the wide scope of ‘The Mad White Hair’, we felt it was appropriate to next show the more traditional side of the album.  ‘Rat King’ is a brutish and uncompromising track highlighting the focused metallic edge we have brought to these songs.  We feel that ‘Flyblown Prince’ is perhaps the most ‘metal’ album we have made and ‘Rat King’s thuggish malice shows this as well as any other on the album.

With their much anticipated new opus, CODE have created what is possibly the most intense and extreme album of their long and respected career, which started out in London in 2002, and which has seen the band plough their own individual furrow. One that eschews categorisation, and which has led to CODE gaining a large, and dedicated, world-wide following.

“Flyblown Prince” is very much a progressive album, both musically and technically, and one the likes of which hasn’t been heard in years.  It is perverse fairy tale of an album that guides its listeners through the twists and turns of a dark and ghoulish nightmare fantasy of cinematic proportions via an  ever-shifting soundscape of moods and violent aggression.

With cover art by Kristina Pavleska, layout by Costin Chioreanu and photography by Julie Cottrell, track listing for “Flyblown Prince” is as follows:

1. Flyblown Prince
2. Clemency & Atropy
3. By the Charred Stile
4. Rat King
5. From the Next Room
6. Dread Stridulate Lodge
7. Scold’s Bride
8. The Mad White Hair

The lineup on “Flyblown Prince” consists of of Aort on Guitars, Lordt on Drums, Syhr on Bass and Wacian on Vocals, with guitarist Andras providing support on the recordings, and the band recently had this to say about it:

We are thrilled to finally be unleashing our new album ‘Flyblown Prince’ with our friends at Dark Essence Records.  This album is the result of three years of work and it is wonderful to be able to let it loose in all its mad, brutal and grandiose glory.  Every detail has been meticulously poured over and we think this is our richest release to date.  We hope you enjoy our 45-minute, darkness filled and anxiety ridden offering.

“Flyblown Prince” will hit the streets on the 4th June  in CD and Digital formats, with the Vinyl version following on the 2nd July. All formats are now available to pre-order from the following:

Norwegian GÅTE Release Second Single “Rideboll og Gullborg”

“Rideboll og Gullborg” is GÅTE’s second single from their upcoming EP “Til Nord” and is a deep dive into the versed tradition of Norwegian folk songs.

You can listen to it here: https://orcd.co/RidebollogGullborg

The single is a modern take on a medieval ballade which has been song in Norway for centuries.

In the ballade of Rideboll and Gullborg the King is informed that his daughter has escaped with a suitor named Rideboll, and the King gathers his men to pursue them. As they catch up with Rideboll a battle commence in which Rideboll kills both the King, the man Gullborg was promised to, and seven of the King’s sons.

At the end of the battle Gullborg calls Rideboll’s name, causing Rideboll to suffer a fatal hit. Severely wounded, Rideboll travel home with Gullborg and they both die shortly afterwards. Rideboll by his injuries and Gullborg by sorrow.

The implication that Rideboll dies because Gullborg shouts his name, is fundamental to the narrative and categorizes the ballad as one of the supernatural folk songs conveying the old Norse belief that names bear great meaning and mythical powers.

The upcoming EP Til Nord feature a cleaner and more traditional sound from Gåte.

The band, who had a national breakthrough in the early 2000 with their captivating performances and groundbreaking mix of traditional folk and modern rock, has chosen to go back to their roots and dive into the vast traditional music history Norway has to offer. The result is painstakingly beautiful.

With an immense respect for folk music and unparalleled talent Gåte manages to interpret and convey traditional folk songs to a whole new generation of listeners. Proving yet again that great music and great art endures.
