Gothic Metallers MALACODA released their new EP Crawling Chaos on April 2nd, independently. Today the band has unleashed a guitar playthrough for “Deadlights” via Terra Relicta, performed by guitarist Wes MacDonald.
Wes adds: “Deadlights was written from a drum beat, which gives the overall vibe and great flow between sections. I love how the melody and dark vibe of this song shines in the keys while the guitars and drums keep it moving forward.”
With music described as “dark, foreboding and with lyrics to enjoy as well as unsettle.” (Powerplay Mag UK) being a constant in the band’s sound, the next step would be to write a follow up to Restless Dreams. While looking for a drummer, the band recorded throughout the rest of 2019/2020 with friends behind the drum kit.
Malacoda adds – “The song is based on the movie, It’s one of the better horror movie remakes that’s come out recently. We really tried to capture the emotion from the film with this one.” – Lucas Di Mascio

Two years after the release of their second album “Pale Season”, Swedish Prog-Rockers THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT proudly unveil and release the new stand-alone track ‘Merkurius‘.
Fredrik Norrmann comments on the background of this new composition:
“My first thought, since we have a pandemic going on, was to release a song instead of playing live. A lot of bands have made live-streams, but we did not have the feeling it was something for us. So, we decided to release a stand-alone single. But this way of working is also something, I have been thinking for a while. Instead of releasing an album every third year, release singles a few times every year. It would be interesting to try and see how people would react.”
‘Merkurius‘ is now available on all digital platforms. Also, a video directed by Dronicon Films can be viewed below.
Consisting of the famous Norrman brothers (ex-KATATONIA) as well as Jonas Sköld and Alexander Backlund (both LETTERS FROM THE COLONY), THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT creates music transcending the borders between different styles. This new composition is no different. ‘Merkurius‘ combines touching simplicity à la ANTIMATTER‘s early works with the best genre-breaking bands like GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR have to offer. Altogether, ‘Merkurius‘ is nothing less than a unique blend of Nordic nostalgia.
Singer and guitarist Alexander Backlund narrates about the development in THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT‘s art:
“THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT started as an avenue for Fredrik to explore a different side of his song writing, and I think that mentality is starting to rub off on the rest of us. “Pale Season” felt like an evolution of the self-titled debut, whereas this feels more like a tangent. It was not an experiment — we’ve always had a very ad hoc way of working — but it wasn’t planned out either. The pitfall of electronic music and being genre-independent is that you can keep on adding things ad absurdum, so the challenge was twofold — trying to push the envelope without compromising the DNA of the band and knowing when the damn thing is done. I had to suppress my inner YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. More is more, but more is not always better.”
The title ‘Merkurius‘ was chosen on incident, while Alexander Backlund was focusing on the atmosphere of the song:
“‘Merkurius‘ is the Swedish name for the planet Mercury. The why of it eludes me, but for whatever reason it was the first thing that came to mind when I heard the demo — being lost and alone on some desolate planet. I do not know if you’ve seen the latest photos from the Perseverance rover, but that’s what my mind has felt like lately. A world of thought past its prime, riddled with clues of better days.“
2010 – 2016: Not straying far from his most notable roots, Fredrik “North” Norrman founded THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT – a pleasantly nostalgic road for those more familiar with his work in KATATONIA. Joined by Tobias Netzell of IN MOURNING fame, along with Nicklas Hjertton, formerly of MANDYLON, their self-titled debut album is released in January 2016. The album receives standing ovations from the press, and with a mix of Rock, Metal, Progressive, Doom, Post-Rock and psychedelic elements it is indeed an interesting ride for the listener.
2017: The band releases the single ‘Anti Meridian‘. Mattias Norrman (OCTOBER TIDE) joins the band on bass. Later this year Tobias and Nicklas decide to leave the band due to lack of time.
2018: Joined by Jonas Sköld (OCTOBER TIDE, LETTERS FROM THE COLONY) on drums and vocalist Alexander Backlund (LETTERS FROM THE COLONY) the band works on the follow up to the debut album as well as rehearsing for live shows.
2019: “Pale Season”, the successor to the self-titled debut, sees the light of the day and receives praise from fans and press alike. Additionally, the band crafts their first video clip for the song ‘Final Light’ in cooperation with Bloudengaztia Wolfgang of Dronicon Films.
2021: THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT announces the coming of a new standalone track ‘Merkurius’. A calm and gentle tune which is nothing less than a unique blend of Nordic nostalgia.
Luxembourgish Extreme Progressive Metallers MINDPATROL have released ‘Stainless White’, the first single of their new album “Ikaria”. The video clip was recorded by local film-maker Cindy Santos in a quite unique 24-hour-shooting-day. Next to the mandatory band performance, the band added a narrative to the video, which summarizes parts of the album’s story. Given how “Ikaria” is accompanied by a self-written novel, Mindpatrol found themselves in a joking mood: Similar to how legendary German film-maker Uwe Boll once invited his harshest critics to a boxing match – and beat them to a pulp, being an experienced fighter after all –, Mindpatrol invited local literature critic Jérôme Jaminet to appear in their clip. Together with Ana Carina Marinheiro Neto, he offers an insight in the problems that hold the city of Ikaria hostage. ‘Stainless White’ is a special song for the band, written in a fully collaborative manner after the recent line-up changes. All members added their share in order to show what Mindpatrol stands for in 2021: everything at once! Be it a mighty groove, be it an uplifting lead melody, be it a moody, introspective moment, as long as it fits the mood, Mindpatrol incorporate it into their music.
“Ikaria” is released on June 4th via Green Zone Music.
After the success of their second album ‘Regenerate’, the hard-hitting UK quartet SKARLETT RIOT reinforced their interest from far and wide. With ‘Regenerated’ the band introduced their listeners to a harder, heavier and faster sound, but still driven by the anthemic hooks that have kept SKARLETT RIOT at the forefront of the UK modern metal scene. The band have constantly developed and honed their craft; and the band are in comfortable in their darker and heavier guise, with elements of Asking Alexandria, In This Moment and Bullet for My Valentine shining through; opening up all new possibilities for the band.
The follow-up their Despotz Records release ‘Regenerate’, the album was recorded throughout a time of global uncertainty and confusion but despite what was going on in the world, ‘Invicta‘ is the most focussed and forthright release of the band’s career. Built around the spectacular vocals of Skarlett and a powerful musical landscape unique to the band, ‘Invicta‘ is a melodic, intense, and packed with anthems. Skarlett has broadened her vocals this time out, adding some harsh elements to proceedings, giving the songs and the band and aggressive edge. The first three singles from the album (‘Human‘, ‘Gravity‘ and ‘Stronger‘) introduced the new sound to great acclaim and set the tone for what to expect from the album and from Skarlett Riot in 2021.
The band comments; ‘We are so excited to finally release our brand-new album ‘INVICTA’! This album has been three years in the making and we can’t wait for you to hear the results of the huge amount of work that’s gone into this. We’ve overcome so much together as a band throughout the years and ‘Invicta’ represents the physical and mental struggles we’ve experienced together and individually, making us who we are today – Invicta.” – Skarlett Riot.
Skarlett Riot have taken the scene by storm with their powerful, riff-led songs blending melody and grit with a muscular backbone. Add to that an ear for infectious hooks, a singer blessed with a huge voice, and you have a band that not only has bags of attitude but the songs to back them up! Having wowed audiences at Download Festival, earning a 4KKKK live review from KERRANG!, Leeds and Reading Festival, Metal Female Voices Festival, Bloodstock, Hard Rock Hell, Camden Rocks, Steelhouse, Takedown, Giants Of Rock, S.O.S and a host of other festivals, Skarlett Riot have also shared stages with the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Butcher Babies, Deaf Havana, The Darkness, Wednesday 13, Heaven’s Basement, Kamelot, Gus G, Devilskin, Hammerfall, Glamour Of The Kill, Leaves’ Eyes, Symo Cyco, Black Spiders, plus many more.
New album ‘Invicta‘ is set to be released on May 7th via Despotz Music.
After taking over Instagram and YouTube with his insane guitar skills, reaching millions of viewers and over 280.000 subscribers in just one year, BERNTH has officially released a studio version of Paganini’s “Caprice No. 24” as the first single from his upcoming album, Elevation, available May 14. Watch the awe-inspiring playthrough now below.
BERNTH’s new adaption of Paganini‘s final “Caprice” (widely considered to be one of the most difficult pieces ever written for solo violin) showcases all of his signature breathtaking guitar techniques and a stunning light show. “This is the only song on the album I did not write myself, but there might be the strongest personal connection and story behind it,” says BERNTH. “I wanted to play this piece since my teenage years when I first picked up a guitar. I was fascinated with all the techniques and melodies but couldn’t make it past the first measures! I brought this piece to many guitar teachers in my early years and they all couldn’t really help me… that’s when I realized that I had to do this on my own. I promised myself that someday, I would be able to write a full arrangement and a killer metal guitar version of ‘Caprice No. 24’ by Niccolò Paganini!”
After becoming a double honor student of the acclaimed Vienna Music Institute, gathering experience on tour and in the studio working for highly praised multi-platinum productions and exploring the limits of the guitar through his weekly shred videos over the last years, BERNTH is finally ready to cross this achievement off his bucket list.
Guitar enthusiasts can download the tabs and guitar pro files for this Paganini arrangement on BERNTH’s Patreon page (along with 160+ guitar technique and theory lessons) at https://www.patreon.com/bernth.
Elevation, the first instrumental album full of BERNTH’s signature high-adrenaline shredding, took years to finish and embodies the absolute dedication and perfectionism his viewership is already accustomed to.
“I couldn’t be happier with these new songs and the album in general,” BERNTH says. “My biggest goal was writing fresh, challenging instrumental music that is also easy and entertaining to listen to. All songs were insanely challenging to record but emotion, feeling and melody always had priority. You can find odd meters, exotic scales, unique guitar techniques, the weirdest effect, and many more details all over the album – but always in a way that serves the songs and the emotions they are supposed to portray.”
Pre-orders for Elevation are available now at https://bernth.myshopify.com/. Limited bundles sold out within hours of their announcement.
Just recently The Zach Moonshine Show conducted an interview with Venezuelan NOCTURNAL HOLLOW:
‘Nocturnal Hollow’ joins The Zach Moonshine Show to to talk about the new album “Triumphantly Evil”! We played new tracks from the record, as well as many brand new releases from Bark, Inhuman Condition, Misanthropik Torment, Capra, Midnight, Temple of Void, Midnight Dice, Cannibal Corpse, MONSTER MAGNET, Bongzilla, Bloody Hammers, Empress, Extinguish, Luna’s Call, Ad Meliora, MORBID SAINT, Solus Ex Inferis, Green Lung, Sombre, WIZARDTHRONE, THE OBSESSED, WINTER ETERNAL, PESTILENCE, Siderean, Paradox Community, CADAVERIC INCUBATOR, and Michael Fulkerson! We also played some classics by request from Death Angel, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, and Obituary!
Nocturnal Hollow, one of the most prolific and consistent groups in Venezuelan metal, returns with its new studio album Triumphantly Evil.
After six acclaimed record labels, both at a Latin American and global level, the distinguished extreme metal ensemble premieres its seventh full-length release, which arrives to definitively consolidate its position as standard bearers of the Swedish Death Metal style in the region.
“We always try to experiment by getting to a level above our abilities,” states the band. “The sound approach is the same, always faithful to the roots of Swedish Death Metal. However, we tried to add certain elements of our musical tastes so that the result of this album was different.”
The album Triumphantly Evil was released on February 21, 2021. This seventh record of the band is presented as a faster and more aggressive one. Those are the elements that the musicians sought to capture in this record work.
The lyrics of the album deal with Satanist themes, but not from the most literal and diabolical aspect of the concept, quite the opposite. Nocturnal Hollow immerses the listener in the dark and recondite aspects of the human being.
We all have a very dark part within us, side that Triumphantly Evil will help us to wake up. It is time to surface our inner demons.
