Metal Blade Records have announced their ‘Metal Massacre XV’ Compilation, curated by Decibel Magazine’s Albert Mudrian – available digitally and on vinyl; song previews now streaming online.

In 1982, Metal Blade Records put out its first release: Metal Massacre, a compilation album that included Metallica, Ratt, and many other influential artists. Now, Metal Blade will be releasing Metal Massacre XV on May 21st – and continuing the legacy of the first album – the collection will once again contain a sampling of contemporary heavy metal, curated by Decibel Magazine‘s Albert Mudrian.

Ryan Williams (Metal Blade Records A&R), who coordinated this installment of Metal Massacre, comments: “The legend of the ‘Metal Massacre‘ series is the first thing many people think of when they hear ‘Metal Blade Records’. Famously, it’s how Brian Slagel introduced the world to Metallica – not to mention many up-and-coming bands throughout the 80s, 90s and 2000s. When Metal Blade’s President Tracy Vera suggested I organize the next volume, I was honored to pick up the baton and run with it. While brainstorming about the direction to take, Nikki Law (our Head of Publicity) suggested partnering with Albert at Decibel Magazine, who is legendary in his own right for having a perpetual ear-to-the-ground of the deepest corners of the underground metal scene. Luckily it didn’t take any arm twisting for Albert to be a part of the team on this the 15th edition, so we went to work looking for awesome bands to work with, and I think we have put together a distinct collection of bands and songs. We tried to stay true to the old school mentality of making a compilation tape for your friends, featuring bands you really just want other people to check out. This edition includes a diverse collection of metal acts, heavy hitters, modern, and old school tunes – so hopefully there is something for everyone here! Turn it up and enjoy!”

Albert Mudrian (Decibel Magazine Editor in Chief) adds: “It was an extreme honor to be called upon to help curate an installment of the truly transformative ‘Metal Massacre‘ series. Rather than concentrate on one particular era or style, I dutifully attempted to bring the best sub-genres metal has produced over the past 40 years into a cohesive portrait of what today’s underground metal scene faithfully represents. May it and ‘Metal Massacre‘ forever reign.”

UFOMAMMUT Return, Announcing New Drummer; New Plans And Recordings In The Works

Following a year-and-a-half of hiatus and regrouping, Italy’s reigning champions of immersive, heavy, psychedelic metal UFOMAMMUT announces their return, with a revamped lineup.

UFOMAMMUT spent several years of heavy touring across Europe and the United States supporting their eighth LP, 8, which saw release through Neurosis’ Neurot Recordings in 2017, resulting in their most successful live ventures in their two-decades-long history. In 2019, the band celebrated their twentieth anniversary, releasing the mammoth XX box set, commemorating their extensive discography. Shortly thereafter, the members experienced some differences on where the band was headed, and in January of 2020, longtime drummer Vita parted ways with the outfit and the band announced an indefinite hiatus. Weeks later, the world would find itself consumed by the worldwide outbreak of the still-ongoing pandemic.

During this ominous past year of outbreaks, lockdowns, cancellations, and severe angst, UFOMAMMUT’s guitarist Poia and bassist/vocalist Urlo channeled their energy into positive action, and silently reorganized the band. Now, they proudly welcome their new drummer, Levre, and the band’s return in 2021.

The band proudly announces, “After celebrating twenty years as a band, UFOMAMMUT reached a point of no return. As a result of an intense and difficult period, our paths divided. At the beginning of January 2020 Vita left the band and UFOMAMMUT announced that it was time to stop for an indefinite period of time. Shortly thereafter, the whole world was overwhelmed by the pandemic, which would have profoundly changed our lives. In this suspended time, we have had time to think, recover the lost energy and plan a new beginning. Now we are ready. It’s time to turn on the amps again.”

While no official plans have been announced, the revamped UFOMAMMUT is already putting projects into action, and new material is under construction. Stand by for further announcements on the band’s upcoming activities in 2021 and beyond over the months ahead.

See more and stay tuned at UFOMAMMUT’s official website HERE, through their own Supernatural Cat label HERE, and through Neurot Recordings HERE.

In related news, UFOMAMMUT’s Urlo has been hard at work on new material for his solo project, The Mon, which debuted in 2018, with new material on the way this year. He also launched a new online video series during the pandemic, Para(In)Phernalia, with discussions on the gear, equipment, and techniques he and the other members of the band use to produce their sonic and visual creations. The installments have gained a healthy following from the band’s diehard fanbase, which reacts with notes and inquires, making for a very interactive experience.

The Malleus Rock Art Lab collective, which is also directly operated by members of UFOMAMMUT and Supernatural Cat, has also just launched their own new clothing line! Featuring bold prints and artwork created by the cooperative outfit, from the cotton used to the label applied to each garment, up to the shipping packaging, the group paid great attention to every detail of the new project. The entire printing and production process is 100% created in Italy and it’s carried out by Turin-based lab Sericraft.

The new Brazilian metallers, THE DAMNNATION, have released the live video for the single “Apocalypse”. The track is part of the EP ‘Parasite’, and was one of the singles released to promote the album. “Apocalypse” brings a new and extremely heavy sound, a different style within the extreme metal being difficult to classify in just one specific genre. The single is available on all digital platforms.

‘Parasite’ was released in November 2020 by Xaninho Discos, leading the band to achieve great prominence in the national and international media, being one of the great revelations of the brazilian metal. The EP ‘Parasite’ scored 9th place for the best EP’s released in 2020, on the Metal Injection website. The track ‘Parasite’ entered the official Spotify playlist, “Thrashers”.

The Damnnation is in the studio for the recording of the expected debut album, which is being produced by the renowned Rogério Oliveira (worked on the EP ‘Parasite’) and Martin Furia (Nervosa, Eskröta and BARK) and will be released this year by a European label that will be announced soon.

“The only horrible thing in the world is ennui… That is the one sin for which there is no forgiveness.” – Oscar Wilde

Shrouded in a veil of mystery and death, Belarussian black metal act KHANDRA will soon unleash their new offering, ‘All occupied by sole Death,’ upon mankind. Characterized by aggressiveness, dissonance and by creating a strong sense of atmosphere, the band’s third assault seamlessly fits in with the wave of black metal fronted by MGŁA and BLAZE OF PERDITION.

KHANDRA’s first revelations were perpetrated in October 2017 under the banner ‘All is of no avail,’ which subsequently merged with its successor ‘There’s no division outside existence’ in October 2018. These seeds sprouted even more fatal progression of metastases which transformed into ‘All occupied by sole Death.’

“Khandra” [xɐnˈdra] is a term that describes the feeling of crippling listlessness or melancholy that takes one over when in a state of boredom. However, the band’s overarching concept challenges this notion of ennui, attempting to exceed the limits of the imagination, utilizing music as a vessel of expression that has no emotional or logical confines.

Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan Era VENOM Albums To Be Reissued

Long awaited vinyl re-issues of the Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan era VENOM albums, “Prime Evil”, “Tear Your Soul Apart”, “Temples Of Ice”, and “The Wastelands” (feat. original members, Mantas and Abaddon), will be available in July via Rock Mark.

“It’s been a long road and one of persistent work, but finally the road ended and we can present these recordings again. “Prime Evil”, “Tear Your Soul Apart”, “Temples Of Ice” and “The Wastelands” with original art, full lyrics, some nice bonus extras too. First time on vinyl – “Kissing The Beast” and extra surprises. This was never about money but about this important part of the history of a band, and the recordings that went with that period finally being re-released, so those who couldn’t find them or didn’t get the chance to own them, or even hear them properly, can now do that with these remastered but not remixed pieces of history. Music is to be heard and to have fought so hard to free these recordings for you finally, is the ALL to me. Enjoy!” says Tony Dolan.

The albums have been remastered for vinyl from original masters, and except seperate album releases, Rock Mark also announced the release of a special limited edition box set, limited to 166 copies, incl.:
– 5 x 12″ 180 gr splatter in different colors in gatefold covers with lyrics: “Prime Evil”, “Tear Your Soul Apart”, “Temples Of Ice”, “Kissing The Beast” and “The Waste Lands”
– bonus vinyl “Pentagram” – transparent UV print with inlay, with 4 songs: “If You Want A War” and “Surgery” (both recorded during “Prime Evil” session in 1989), and two live bootleg tracks: “Black Metal” and “Witching Hour”.
– exclusive 30 x 30 cm 16 page booklet with Tony Dolan’s notes and stories of those days in Venom and some rare photos.
