JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA Release New Single And Video “Nothing Will Last”

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA are back! “Spirit Of Alchemy” (Metalville Records) will be released on April 9th and will be their hardest album yet. The new single “Nothing Will Last” impressively shows what fans can expect from this extraordinary album.

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA is the brainchild of Stockholm born drummer Johan Kihlberg, who formed the band in 2011 after having worked in the music business for over 30 years, performing with members from legendary acts such as KISS, THIN LIZZY, EUROPE, RAINBOW and MÖTLEY CRUE.

Every album leading up to Spirit of Alchemy has been unique in the how Kihlberg has invited his noted friends from the international rock and metal community to add their magic to the songs. This time, the stellar musicianship comes courtesy of no less than bassist John Levén (who has been with Swedish hard rock titans EUROPE since its formation) and renowned drummer Snowy Shaw (who has a history with KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE and SABATON). The soaring vocals are brought to you by power house Jonny Lindkvist of NOCTURNAL RITES, while the stellar guitar wizardry once again is handled by Lars Chriss from LION’S SHARE.

Spirit of Alchemy is an album full of focus and determination. The metal riffing in songs like the up-tempo rocker “All About You” and the guitar picking that starts off the haunting “When Souls Collide” manage to sound both classic and futuristic at the same time. Even though JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA’s new effort is rooted in the harder realms of rock, Kihlberg’s lifelong passion for atmospheric movie soundtracks once again shines through in the epic finale that is “Battle”.

Spirit of Alchemy is sure to please both older and newer fans and push JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA’s career to the next level. (Text: Carl Linnaeus).

India’s ROLLING STONE Premiere Crushing New Song ‘Abandoned Rooms Of Misspelled Agony’

India’s ROLLING STONE have just unveiled a brand new “molten rage” of a single, Abandoned Rooms Of Misspelled Agony, off of Moral Collapse‘s upcoming debut full-length album. The track features some masterful lead guitar playing by Bobby Koelble (Death, Nader Sadek) along with some insane saxophone parts by Julius Gabriel, a veteran free-jazz musician from Germany. Speaking to senior writer Anurag Tagat, Natarajan adds about the song, “Some of the tracks on the album are mid-paced and may be hint on a more modern, progressive kind of vibe. Abandoned Rooms Of Misspelled Agony is one such track, and it’s probably the best song on the album that one could listen to as an introduction to Moral Collapse. It’s the second time I’m experimenting with saxophone and I’m very happy with how it’s come about. Both Bobby and Julius have done a stellar job on the song.” Along with the track premiere, the article is also accompanied by a short interview wherein Natarajan speaks about the stacked list of collaborations on the album, a special black and white splatter heavyweight vinyl release and future plans with Moral Collapse.

Stream/listen to the song [HERE].

Moral Collapse is the brainchild of Arun Natarajan (Eccentric Pendulum), Sudarshan Mankad (Infamy) and the inimitable Hannes Grossman (Obscura, Necrophagist, Blotted Science). The project came about during the early days of the pandemic-induced lock-down in the two countries with a dead-set intention of writing forward-thinking death metal music that perfectly blended the ferocity of the old-school sound with the eccentricity of modern jazz and free-wheeling, avant-garde music. Previously pegged for a late 2020 release, the group had to rework its release schedule given the unfortunate continuance of the pandemic.

While the record was written and recorded only in 2020, the ideas for some of the set-pieces that appear on the record have been around since 2003 when Natarajan first tried to put the band together; at the time with a completely different line-up. A considerable portion of the oddball, free-wheeling music is purely improvised and played with utmost spontaneity. The 36-min long record was completely mixed and mastered by Hannes Grossmann at his studio in Germany, Mordor Sounds with most of the recording & engineering (sans drums) done at Natarajan’s own studio in Bangalore, India.

Moral Collapse’s s/t record is releasing worldwide on LP/CD/DD via Subcontinental Records on the 2nd April, 2021.  Pre-orders for the release and all merch are now available on the label’s Bandcamp, [HERE]. The album will be available on all streaming services including YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music. Meanwhile, the album lead single ‘Suspension Of Belief‘ is available to stream across all streaming platforms.

BALA Release Spectacular Video For New Single “X”

An outstanding song – needs an outstanding video and the visual concept is just as important as the song itself.

BALA proof that they understood this approach and deliver and intense visual clip for their new single “X” that makes you hungry for their upcoming release “Maleza”, which drops on May 14th, 2021!

The band’s comment on their new single and video:

“The letter ‘X’ is a universal and recognizable symbol. It’s full of layers and meanings. It’s also the ‘taboo’ or ‘the prohibited’. It represents the carnal union, the conjunction of souls and bodies. It talks about the passion that dominates us when we become intimate with the person we like and how much we would like that moment to never end. It talks about love but also about detachment. It talks about possessing and it talks about releasing. About illusions and realities, about comings and goings, about beginnings and endings. It talks about resistance and vulnerability and ultimately, about the transience of the best moments in life and our obsession with them.

Inside the cube, also represented by the set where we are playing, we keep our privacy but also our prejudices, our insecurities and our limits.

Each couple shares the cube in a different way, because each person lives it its own way and ‘X’ represents, after all, DIVERSITY, TOLERANCE and RESPECT.”

In 2021, the Greek/Swedish melodic death metal stars NIGHTRAGE return with the final part in their trilogy of albums (‘The Venomous‘, ‘Wolf to Man‘) and now complete with their upcoming album ‘Abyss Rising‘. An album that is the band’s vision of mankind living in its own hell – a hell it has created through the destruction of the planet. Inspired in part by Dante’s ‘inferno’, the album explores man’s continual destruction of the world we live in until the abyss opens up to consume all before it. The abyss has risen from the depths, and hell has now turned outside in to be able to rise to earth to claim us. The album captures Nightrage in a spectacular form; incisive, brutal, uncompromising, and unforgettable. Musically the band have embraced a harder, faster, and brutal approach, still rich in melodic intent but characteristically heavy and aggressive. Mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordstrom at Studio Fredman (Architects, In Flames, Opeth, etc.) ‘Abyss Rising‘ is a formidable sonic masterpiece. The album will be released in fall 2021.

First out is the single and title track of the album; ‘Abyss Rising‘ is all about how we as humans already are living in our own hell and expresses Nightrage’s visionwhere mankind has finally reached their own hell on Earth. The abyss has risen from the depths, and hell has now turned outside in to be able to rise to earth to claim us.The single will be released March 26th via Despotz Records.

Marios about the new single;
“Abyss Rising is one of the last songs that we have written for the new album me and Magnus, and we wanted to create a fast song with really strong melodies and catchy riffs. I feel we have really great chemistry when we sit down and write new songs together, plus with the addition of Ronnie he did some really great vocals that lifted the song a lot, especially on the chorus he added a lot of layers of clean vox harmonies that gives the song another dimension! We are blown away from the amazing art that Jon Tousas did from Graphic No Jutsu, you see 7 arrows that symbolizes the 7 deadly sins that is killing the 3 birds of innocence, so that shows us clearly the downfall of the humankind and the rising of the unfortunate Abyss. Beware Of The Abyss!” // Marios Iliopoulos

DRACONIAN To Release Monumental Full-Length “Under A Godless Veil” On Picture Vinyl

Almost five years after the release of their long-player Sovran, DRACONIAN unveiled their highly acclaimed epos and seventh full-length, Under A Godless Veil, in October 2020 via Napalm Records. Entering the charts in several countries, this prodigious album marks the unit’s most successful record to date and delivers a captivating mélange of dreary doom and contrasting vocals, and mixes Heike Langhans’ angelic voice with Anders Jakobsson’s death growls. Now, this intoxicating piece of art will be released as an atmosphericly conceptualized picture vinyl, out April 23rd 2021.

DRACONIAN on Under A Godless Veil:
“To DRACONIAN, Under a Godless Veil is by far the most diverse album we have created. Inspired by some of the music closest to Johan’s heart; everything from traditional Doom to scaled-down, Gothic rock-inspired pieces and more. Some will perhaps describe the songs as more refined and meditative. Some ambient elements have been added to the mix without overshadowing the traditional characteristics that are DRACONIAN.

Resonating with the compositions, Anders’s lyrical direction is ambiguous and a progression of the first two-three albums, yet more subtle while embracing the Gnostic philosophy more directly. One could say Under a Godless Veil is an act of contemplation; About living and dying and remembering who we are in a strange, abrasive world far from home.”

[cover artwork by Natalia Drepina]

The one-hour long album, graced  with a haunting cover artwork by Natalia Drepina, carries the legacy of gothic doom metal à la My Dying Bride or Trees Of Eternity into the new decade and will drag the listener into a sorrowful cosmos with the very first notes of spellbinding opener “Sorrow Of Sophia“, interweaving beauty with crippling depression.

After crushing slow rhythms and the fragile “Sleepwalkers” that leads through barren soundscapes, the band – founded in Säffle / Sweden in 1994 – rises up to their best in the nine-minute long “Ascend Into Darkness“, which will echo in the listener’s ears long after the final chord has died away.

Under A Godless Veil tracklisting:
1. Sorrow of Sophia
2. The Sacrificial Flame
3. Lustrous Heart
4. Sleepwalkers
5. Moon Over Sabaoth
6. Burial Fields
7. The Sethian
8. Claw Marks On The Throne
9. Night Visitor
10. Ascend Into Darkness
