Rockshots Records announces their latest signing of NAHAYA (ft. members of Oceans of Slumber, Vesperian Sorrow, ex-Kingdom Collapse, Painting The Massacre, Cerebral Desecration). The Texan band is an amalgamation of American melodic groove thrash, Gothenburg sounds, and Middle Eastern influences. The band was founded in 2013 by Ryan Peters with Semir Ozerkan, who immigrated to the US from Istanbul, Turkey to pursue career opportunities in metal, one being with Oceans of Slumber.

The new album, entitled “Vital Alchemy” due out on May 21, 2021 follows NAHAYA‘s well-received EPs “Transcendence Pt. II” (2020) and “Transcendence” (2018). Since the band’s conception, they have been working hard to make a name for themselves independently, performing over 50 shows year-round in Texas and neighboring states including Austin’s SXSW festival and becoming national finalists for the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle USA competition.

The band comments on their signing: “We are extremely excited to release our new album “Vital Alchemy” with our newest label Rockshots Records. This was a longtime coming for Nahaya to reach its target around the world. We totally believe that every track in this album we put all of our emotions into. We see this release as a milestone for the band.‘

NAHAYA‘s new album “Vital Alchemy“, mastered by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, Scale the Summit), are seven tracks that will take fans through a wide range of emotions. There is something on this record for every kind of music lover. From the melody to the groove to the speed and unlike its predecessors that were focused on themes of science fiction, this new record takes on more personal interest, spirituality, and metaphysics along with it being more musically dynamic and experimental, incorporating progressive, acoustic, melancholic sounds with thrashing elements.

Overall, “Vital Alchemy” also signifies a rebirth for NAHAYA as the new tracks featured on the recording are the next step in the band’s evolution when it comes to their musical direction.

“We’ve now reached a point where the future seems very bright and many different paths can and will be followed when it comes to future musical endeavors. We’ve surpassed our own expectations when it comes to this album. We couldn’t be more proud.” adds Semir Ozerkan.

“Vital Alchemy” is due out May 21, 2021 via Rockshots Records.

Album pre-order and singles to be announced in the coming weeks.

1. Madness of Maenads (1:22)

Cuba Metal Invasion: A Documentary For Charity

Ken Burke

The stereotype of the harsh, insensitive, antisocial metalhead-being still exists – but it won’t be part of the reality of director Ken Burke’s latest charity project. Instead, an army of metal maniacs went to battle the poverty and misery in the Latin American country of Cuba.

This is the heartwarming story that director Ken Burke tells in his documentary “Cuba Metal Invasion”. In March 2019, he went to Cuba alongside 11 heavy metal bands from Germany, Australia, Mexico and the United States and created a 38-minute documentary, that looks at heavy metal music and the softer side of an often stigmatized music culture, as the group visits and performs at different children’s hospitals around Cuba.

Two years later, the Cuban economy is struggling more than it already did before, as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to decimate the tourist industry, one of the most important factors for the local economy. In order to once again gather attention for all those who suffer in silence due to their vulnerability, the documentary is now available for streaming by donation online here. All the money raised by this will be used to help the Cuban children.

“If you are able to help in any way it would make a difference in people’s lives who are really struggling for basic needs.” – Ken Burke, Burkeville Productions, Cuba Metal Invasion

Bands featured in the documentary are:

All Will Know (Darmstadt, Germany)
Coatl (Los Angeles, USA)
IRA (Mexico City, Mexico / USA)
Jeremy Harris (Perth, Australia)
Mephisto (Holguín, Cuba)
Precipitation (Babenhausen, Germany)
Pro-Fe-Cia (Los Angeles, USA / Mexico)
Savanth (San Luis Potosí, Mexico)
Tendencia (Pinar Del Rio, Cuba)

BEWITCHER Release Video Clip For “Valley of the Ravens”

In keeping with the tradition of throwing curveballs and shattering expectations of who BEWITCHER is, Portland’s speed metal heathens offer up their most dynamic tale of revenge and death yet. Paired with a music video inspired by 70’s Hammer Horror through a Tarantino/Lynch lens, “Valley of the Ravens” is a menacing funeral dirge encapsulating the entire BEWITCHER sound:

Von Bewitcher (vox & guitars) comments: “In the burning times… Tried and convicted for her crimes of black magic, a witch is sent to her demise in the dreaded wastelands where the scavenger birds make their home. Awash in atmosphere and dark bluesy energy, ‘Valley of the Ravens’ is a tale of death, rebirth and eternal vengeance.”

“Valley Of The Ravens” is the 3rd song taken from BEWITCHER’s upcoming 3rd studio album, “Cursed Be Thy Kingdom”, that is set for a release on April 16th, 2021. The various formats are available with first preorders already up under the following link: https://bewitcher.lnk.to/CursedBeThyKingdomID

When one finds themselves at the proverbial crossroads – face to face with the Devil himself – who wouldn’t choose the left hand path? Honestly, evil is too enticing, too strong, and Hell has the best music anyway. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, heavy metal mongrels BEWITCHER made their pact with Lucifer years ago, and have been walking the dark path ever since.

Recorded at The Captain’s Quarters in Ventura, California by Armand John Anthony (Night Demon), and mixed by Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Megadeth), “Cursed Be Thy Kingdom” is a powerhouse, heavy-metal-rock-’n’-roll record forged in the white hot fires of Hell. The front cover was done by Paolo Girardi (Power Trip and many more).

SUMO CYCO Reveal Striking New Anthem “No Surrender”

Canadian alt-metal/hard rock crossover stars SUMO CYCO recently announced the highly anticipated release of their upcoming full-length album, Initiation, out May 7, 2021 via Napalm Records. Interlaced with infectious heavy metal grooves, pop-perfected hooks, electronic undertones and a dose of punk flavor, Initiation breaks all the rules while delivering a cohesive yet purely unbridled sonic adventure.

SUMO CYCO’s explosive first single/video, “Bystander”, burst with attention upon its release in mid-February, garnering over 100,000 YouTube views in just four days! Now, the multi-faceted musical powerhouse has returned with another single – the chaotic, sauntering “No Surrender”. Packing a punch with pop star-turned-rock frontwoman Skye “Sever” Sweetnam’s dynamic vocal delivery and an impassioned, riffy chorus, the track coincides with an introspective music video.

Skye “Sever” Sweetnam says about “No Surrender” and its video:
“’No Surrender’ is about the struggle to be your authentic self, living your truth and battling inner demons. The music video depicts four characterized versions of myself representing different sides of my personality and how I see myself. They’re lurking in the darkness over my shoulder, always questioning each other’s decisions.

The song is written from the perspective of the voice or voices in my head. Telling me to run one moment and another to hold my ground and another to fight back. In between some epic rocking out with the band, I wanted the viewers to visualize the colorful juxtaposition that goes on in my mind.”

Watch the intense new music video for “No Surrender” HERE

SUMO CYCO’s Initiation invites a mass of new followers into their warped, dystopian-like world of “Cyco City”! As with its predecessors Lost In Cyco City (2014), Opus Mar (2017) and countless singles, Initiation is based in the imaginative conceptual location of “Cyco City”. But unlike most concept albums, the lyrical content is inspired by the band’s real-time environment – featuring timely, personal themes of love, sacrifice, anxiety, empowerment and more that all listeners can relate to.

Sweetnam adds about the album:
The album’s title, Initiation, stems from wanting to invite the audience to be “initiated” into our world. There are usually two congruent themes to each of our albums – one is real-world inspiration, and the other is “Cyco City”, a comic book-esque alternate universe where all our music videos take place. With Initiation, we introduce four gangs or clubs. Our music videos for Initiation all include a theme of these clubs – whether it’s gang vs. gang, a forbidden love between opposing sides, or the idea of having to choose where you belong.

Outside of the story, the lyrics relate to the polarization of the world we live in now. We all have a longing to belong, but what makes one feel accepted or ostracized from a group? To be INITIATED, would you be willing to try to understand another point of view? I have always written lyrics about internal struggle, the war within oneself. Throughout the album, we bounce back and forth between struggle and overcoming. It reflects the times, and there are moments that seem a bit dark.”

Pre-order Initiation HERE

At the album’s start, SUMO CYCO lights a spark with the seductively hooked track “Love You Wrong”, connecting like a punch and setting the stage for the vigor to come. The blitz continues with standouts like lethal room-mover “Bystander” and electronic-infused, in-your-face rock anthem “Vertigo” – the latter standing tall with its airtight, gritty pop sensibility and featuring the production mastery of Juno Award-winning producer Kane Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, In This Moment, Papa Roach). Swiftly followed by erratic, addictive nod-to-the-times “Bad News” and heavy, creeping success “No Surrender”, Initiation proves not even halfway through that the band’s songwriting ability and the commanding performance prowess frontwoman Skye “Sever” Sweetnam, guitarist Matt “MD13” Drake, bassist Oscar Anesetti and drummer Matt “Trozzi” blend a recipe for greatness. The album continues winding through a mastery of heavy-meets-pop execution before ending with the full-throttle, sugar n’ salt packed album closer “This Dance Is Doomed” (while various editions cap off with sultry, confident “Awakened”).

By the end of Initiation, listeners will wonder just what exactly SUMO CYCO can’t do, proving them as a band on the rise, and that unconventionality always stands out from the pack.

Initiation tracklisting:*
1) Love You Wrong
2) Bystander
3) Vertigo
4) Bad News
5) No Surrender
6) M.I.A.
7) Cyclone
8) Run with the Giants
