THE DOGS Release Video For Latest Single ‘Under The Coast’ Feat. Frank Meyer

Underground punk legends THE DOGS have unleashed a video for their new single ‘Under The Coast’ that was co-written with and features fellow rock ‘n’ roller Frank Meyer (The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs, James Williamson & The Pink Hearts) on guest vocals and guitar. The socially conscious, topical song is available now through Chicanery Chick Records/Die Laughing Records on all digital formats and the video compliments the song itself. The track deals with the chaos and dissonance of modern times.

“Somebody call for help cuz there’s panic in the air
A troubled sense of unease that is tangible and there,
So real you think you can taste it so loud it rings a bell,
Your 2020 vision can’t prepare you for this hell.”

“Frank and I go way back,” says THE DOGS front man Loren Molinare. “His band The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs and THE DOGS have been in the trenches of the rock ‘n’ roll wars for years together, playing cutthroat gigs side by side. We had always talked about collaborating on a song one day. Then right at the beginning of the pandemic, Frank texted me and asked if I was recording at home at all. I told him just had a few riffs in my phone, but I’d send them over. Next thig I knew he took them into GarageBand and wrote a full realized song around all my parts! And it was a really strong song.”

‘’Tension runs like ripples in the sea of your demise,
Creating waves of dissonance that shadow like the tides,
The eyes in back of skulls keep the watcher on his board,
But he is watching who when the visitors on shore and he wants a little more?”

“Loren sent me these killer riffs that had a punk thing going on but also had this power-pop meets surf rock twang to ‘em,” adds Meyer, “and since society was just starting to fall apart with the pandemic and riots, I started writing about that. But I wanted the vibe to be kind of happy like ‘Hey, the world’s falling apart around us and the apocalypse is near, so let’s head to the beach and surf!’ Sort of a west coast punk rock take on Prince’s ‘1999’ in a way.”

“Let’s raise a glass and make a toast,
Let’s celebrate and prepare the roast,
With the waves that come crashing down
You think you’re lost but then you’re found,
Can you hear the sound?
Under the coast”

So Molinare took the demo to THE DOGS — bassist Mary Kay and drummer Tony Matteucci – to work it up and all the trio gathered at Pawnshop Studios with producer Richard Duguay to cut the tracks, sending Meyer the mixes to record his vocals from his home studio since Southern California was on lockdown at the time.

Bassist Mary Kay says, “it’s a strange time and Loren and Frank did a great job of capturing the tension and hypocrisy in the air these days.”

“This feeling overtakes you like the writing on the wall,
Tragedy masks the humor of your imminent downfall,
The pretty things will fade away like your slowly turning looks,
The words you say won’t be forgotten like pages in a book.”

“As soon as Loren mentioned doing a video, I had this idea of project images over the band members, sort of like a ‘60s go-go dancing’ flick meets David Lynch-style art film. The images needed to move along fast and match the song too, so they needed to reference both the SoCal happy-sunny beach vibe plus the violent underbelly of modern city life and the politics that keep us all paranoid. So basically, it’s a sunshine apocalypse!”

Front man Loren said we booked a soundstage to shoot the video but then I tested positive for COVID-19 and went into a 14-day self-isolation. We asked Frank with his film directing background if there was a way to shoot the video under the COVID restrictions and he knocked it out of the park with his concept.

Formed in Lansing, Michigan in 1968, THE DOGS started as proto-punk band playing alongside The Stooges, MC5, and KISS before eventually moving to Los Angeles in 1976 and joining the ranks of the emerging west coast punk scene. The trio’s appeared on the Killed By Death compilation and the notorious “Slash Your Face” 7” single cemented the band’s way-ahead-of-it’s-time status. After a breakup, the band reformed to release the 2000 Compilation Fed Up album Suburban Nightmare on Dionysus Records and have been going strong ever since.

Die Laughing Records will also issue ‘Under The Coast’ on vinyl later this year as the B-side to The Dogs’ previous digi-single ‘Welcome to the Revolution.’

RICHIE KOTZEN Talks Writing & Recording w/ IRON MAIDEN’s Adrian Smith On Debut Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on March 17, 2021

Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to Richie Kotzen (Mr. Big, Poison, The Winery Dogs), who is promoting the debut album from his collaborative project with IRON MAIDEN’s Adrian Smith. Smith/Kotzen, will release their self-titled debut album on March 26 2021 via BMG.

Excepts from the interview
When asked how the two met and whose idea it was to work together.
“I met Natalie his wife first and that’s how I met Adrian. We were out one night meeting a friend and my friend’s talking to her and said I play guitar and then she said her husband played the guitar in a band. Then she (Natalie) said he was Adrian Smith in Iron Maiden and I got all excited cause I’m a huge Maiden fan. That was one of my first concerts when I was a kid. I saw them in Pennsylvania on the Piece of Mind tour. “Natalie and Adrian would have these holiday parties in L.A. not too far from where I live and we would have these get-togethers and there was a room where guitars were and the amps and it would turn into a jam session. In one of the most recent times Natalie said you and Adrian should try and write something together. We got together, one thing led to another and we thought let’s go make a record.”

When asked about the musical direction of the album
“It reminds me of one of those classic rock albums I would have had back in the day. I would be playing my Ozzy record and my Scorpions record then pop this on. It kind of brings me back to an era when people made records and actually played real instruments and guitar driven rock albums. Classic rock but a little on the heavier side and blues driven. “

When asked if Smith/Kotzen plays live will it include any Iron Maiden songs in the set list, since you have only one album
“That’s a good question and something we have to think about cause we only have 9 songs on the album. I would imagine we would play the entire album, maybe add in one or two covers. Then maybe we do one of Adrian’s songs from Maiden, maybe pick one of my songs from one of my records? It is something we got to think about. “

Smith/Kotzen Recorded on the Turks & Caicos Islands in February 2020, produced by Richie and Adrian and mixed by Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, this nine-track opus is a consummate collaboration between these two highly respected musicians who co-wrote all the songs and also share lead vocals and trade off on guitar and bass duties throughout the record.

MYLES KENNEDY Releases Title Track & Video From Upcoming Solo Album ‘The Ides Of March’

Building upon the excitement from the announcement of his sophomore album, The Ides Of March, last month, MYLES KENNEDY is releasing its title track to the masses. “The Ides Of March” is the longest song on the album, clocking in at 7:39, and showcases the musicianship of Kennedy and cohorts – longtime friend and drummer Zia Uddin and bassist/manager Tim Tournier. The band stretch out musically as Kennedy sings an ominous warning “beware the ides of March.”

MYLES KENNEDY says about “The Ides Of March”:
“Written quickly one night after having a few drinks, it was an attempt to sum up what so many of us felt during the beginning of the pandemic. We were bored, frustrated and self-medicating to avoid going stir crazy. What I like about the narrative, is it pushes the idea that if everything is going to hell, at least try and do it in a celebratory fashion.”

Watch the official video for “The Ides Of March” HERE:

Never a musician to waste any precious time, Alter Bridge and Slash and the Conspirators vocalist MYLES KENNEDY used the recent pandemic to finalize his sophomore solo album. During his time at home due to all touring being canceled, Myles created the framework for the song ideas that would make up The Ides Of March. From the slide guitar riffs of the album opener “Get Along” to the pensive blues style of closer “Worried Mind,” it is clear that Myles has crafted a formidable follow up to his debut solo album. While Year Of The Tiger was more of an acoustic exploration through Myles’ mind, The Ides Of March finds him strapping on his electric guitar and pushing himself as a guitarist/songwriter. Tracks like “A Thousand Words,” “Wake Me When It’s Over” and “Moonshot” showcase the diverse musical arrangements that have garnered Myles fans globally across all of his projects. The Ides Of March was produced by longtime collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette and is slated for release on May 14 via Napalm Records.

The first single “In Stride” opens with Myles showcasing his slide playing before delivering a lyrical message to “take it all in stride.” The song is currently seeing heavy rotation at rock radio stations around the world, leading to a Top 15 placement in the German Rock Radio Airplay Charts and rising in the Top 30 at US Active Rock, and has received massive response from fans alike. The video for “In Stride” marks a return by Stefano Bertelli (who created the “Native Son” video for Alter Bridge) and shows an animated Myles as he takes the end of the world in stride. The video for the song can be seen HERE.

St. Louis synth metal trio THE LION’S DAUGHTER is now sharing the nightmarish and intense music video for their new single, “Curtains,” which is taken from the band’s upcoming opus, ‘Skin Show.’ The clip, which was directed by Guilherme Henrqiues, is a disturbing look at obsession turned deadly. Watch the video at THIS LOCATION.

The band comments: ‘”Curtains’ is about the way that obsession and paranoia can lead to destruction. And how sometimes when you try to kill that thing that waits in the dark, you actually only hurt yourself.”

Director Guilherme Henriques adds, “As a director, you truly live for these type of clips where everybody around you is as invested technically and emotionally on the project as you are from the very beginning. The Lion’s Daughter is one of the most cinematic and disturbing bands I ever worked with and ideas flow so well and so organically. This clip brings you a devastating episode where control and despair collide, where sadness takes you away on a journey through the depths of a broken spirit.”

Moreover, THE LION’S DAUGHTER will be celebrating the April 9 release of their upcoming full-length, ‘Skin Show,’ with brand new live stream! The stream is part of a four night event by Sinkhole and will air on Sunday, April 11 @ 8:00 P.M. EST. The band will also be joined by HELL NIGHT for a double feature! Tickets and merch bundles are available at THIS LOCATION.

‘Skin Show’ could serve as the soundtrack to Times Square in the 1970s – the epicenter of sin and salacious misdeeds; a haven for sex, drugs, and crime beneath the inviting glow of neon signs from sleazy adult video stores; a place one would not dare walk alone after midnight unless tempted by devil himself. Its deviant, raw, nasty, disturbing, and yet, the most lively, evolved, and polished version of the trio yet.

‘Skin Show’ is available now for pre-orders HERE.

The album artwork was once again created by Mothmeister

‘Skin Show’ Tracklist:
01. Become the Night (4:26)
02. Curtains (4:17)
03. Neon Teeth (4:19)
04. Dead in Dreams (3:30)
05. Werewolf Hospital (3:22)
06. Sex Trap (4:06)

BENTHOS Explore Kaleidoscopic Imagination With New ‘Cartesio’ Music Video & Single

Experimental progressive metallers BENTHOS have revealed a new music video and single for the song “Cartesio“. The video was directed by Stefano Galli. Watch it right now at this location.

Watch the new music video ‘Cartesio’ via YouTube, stream the single on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Deezer, and Amazon Music

“Cartesio” is the second single from the band’s debut full-length album II which is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 23, 2021 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced by Matteo Magni (Anewrage, Deep As Ocean) at Magnitude Recordings.

“Cartesio represents the beginning of a journey through inner consiousness” says guitarist Gabriele Papagni. “Through the compositional elements of the song, we tried to focus on the reflection of this journey by materializing the beauty of ideas created through imagination.” Vocalist Gabriele Landillo adds “One of the funny things that happened to us during the video shoot was everyone getting to throw paint on my face, we couldn’t stop laughing! All jokes aside though, filming this video has been a unique experience for us because it is the first music video we actually shot together, and the performance footage was filmed in our rehearsal room at the Papagni’s garage.”

II by Benthos is a stunning debut of experimental progressive metal. Featuring seven tracks showcasing the band’s technical prowess, II quickly catapults the band onto the global metal scene alongside the likes of Periphery, Between The Buried And Me, TesseracT, Sikth, and Meshuggah. The album tells a first-person story about the opposing forces of dualism such as life vs death, intuition vs rationality, and finite vs infinite concepts. The first single “Debris // Essence” is an immersion through consciousness represented with a dive into the deepest part of the abyss.  “Cartesio” is the second single off the album which represents the beginning of the inner journey described throughout the album. The third single “Talk To Me Dragonfly!” is a fast-paced jazz-infused staccato of progressive metal which brings the listener on a confrontation with one’s negativity resulting in awareness, acceptance, and improvement towards positivity. On II by Benthos there is a lot to digest on this amazing album, but one thing is certain… after you are done digesting this sensory feast you’ll be wanting more!
