Helsinki-based POST PULSE have released an aggressive new song titled, ‘Fresh Start’. The band decided mid-2020 to take a new, “No Fucks Given” approach to their music, and that decision comes across clearly in the new song. Similarly, ‘Fresh Start’ talks about Mother Nature’s no fucks given approach to cleansing humans from the earth.

Along with the song, Post Pulse has released a fun, animated music video. The video’s concept was developed by long-time friend of the band Susanna Heiskanen, and executed by Post Pulse guitarist, Antti Karhu.

TIMO ELLIS Releases New Single “Vampire Rodeo”

As New York City-based multi-instrumentalist TIMO ELLIS prepares to release his latest solo EP, Death Is Everywhere, at the end of February, the lead single “Vampire Rodeo” is now playing.

TIMO ELLIS is widely known as the vocalist/frontman for Netherlands, as well as his extensive catalog of recordings with countless international mainstream artists. Death Is Everywhere sees him handling all songwriting and instrumentation including drums, bass, guitars, vocals, and keyboards. Over four dense and intense tracks, elements of a wide array of genres, styles, and instrumentation are seamlessly mutated into a white-knuckled ride that stampedes straight through the confines of any sort of genre boundaries. Buoyant, rampant, and incessantly imaginative, the tracks bob and weave across a range of tempos and textures and keep the listener curiously hooked. Highly recommended for fans of the Melvins, Curtis Mayfield, Queens Of The Stone Age, Nomeansno, and The Beach Boys.

TIMO ELLIS is a musician, composer, and producer. He lives and works in New York City, where he was born and raised. A vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, ELLIS has appeared on almost one hundred albums in total over the past twenty years. He has recorded and toured with such artists as Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Cibo Matto, Joan As Police Woman, and Spacehog, and has variously performed and collaborated with Mark Ronson, John Zorn, The Melvins, Ween, The Lemonheads, Money Mark, and Gibby Haynes.

ELLIS‘ extreme versatility has placed him in the company of musical greats of several genres – within his solo work exists an equally vast range of styles. Since the early ’90s, he has composed and recorded more than twenty-five solo albums under his own name and with his main band, Netherlands. Traversing the realms of rock, punk, metal, soul, lo-fi, folk/country, electronics, and beyond, ELLIS‘ diverse music is unified by a few constants: impeccable songcraft, blazing technique, quirky experimentalism, and sheer intensity. His solo works have been described with phrases like “an absolute, burning blur of a song” (CMJ), “overridden-in-the-red propulsion” (Noisey), and “gritty, high energy… rambunctious” (BrooklynVegan).

BUTCHER BABIES Release New Track + Video ‘Yorktown’

Just when you thought you knew what to expect from BUTCHER BABIES, they release their most innovative work to date. A smooth combination of melodic and metallic vocals, with hard charging rock, “Yorktown” features a guitar solo from Andy James (FFDP). The single is out today and the music video will premiere on Monday, February 15^th.

Produced by and co-written with Matt Good, the track has sparked questions about its name. “What the hell is Yorktown you ask? Well it’s our very own little Gotham, a world we’ve created wherein two vamps patrol the city at night while stalking each other like prey! The magic happens when our two anti-heroines form an alliance to defeat the seedy Yorktown underbelly. It’s one of my favorite butcher babies songs that we’ve written as of late; a true nod to our love for building characters and storytelling over heavy riffs. We scream, we sing…we save Yorktown from impending doom,” explains co-vocalist Carla Harvey. The band posted a pre-save campaign with the opportunity to win a $500 Yorktown Merch Bundle.

The video features a nod to Nirvana and to Adam West’s Batman in equal measure. The band asked fans to name their super-heroines on their socials. The names Gravemaker (Harvey) and Igniter (Shepherd) were the winning choices! Co-vocalist, Heidi Shepherd explains of the video “When writing the song “Yorktown”, it was fairly obvious as to what the video was going to look like. A superhero with 9 lives! But, this is Butcher Babies and what is better than one super hero? TWO SUPER HEROES! Offering a nod to female empowerment, when strong females unite, we can take over the world. Our two characters form a bond and promise to defend the residents of Yorktown together. From concept to edit, we had a hand in all aspects of our very own ‘Gotham’. This video was filmed in Orem, UT at my parent’s film studio, Shepherd Grip & Lighting, where the entire family joined forces to bring this idea to life. You can definitely say that this was a family affair. Both of my parents and all of my 5 siblings created the set design, lighting design, ran all the equipment, and took on many roles in front of and behind the camera. We were lucky to snag my brother-in-law, famed VFX artist, Aaron Sorensen as our director. From the all of stunts to the performances, we are so excited to show the world the silly, comic side of Butcher Babies. After all, we all have a little super hero in us waiting to break free!”

January 2021 brought us “Sleeping With The Enemy.” In 2020, Butcher Babies released “Bottom of A Bottle” and celebrated 10 years as a band by creating and releasing their own signature wine called “Butcher Burgundy”. The new wine is available for purchase at butcherbabiesmerch.com.

“Yorktown” marks the third release from Butcher Babies’ forthcoming EP, which is set for release in mid-2021.

RIOGHAN Releases New Single + Music Video ‘Wither’ From Upcoming Debut EP

Finnish songstress RIOGHAN is set to release her debut EP Blackened Sky on March 10th 2021 via Inverse Records.

Rioghan Darcy comments:“This song was supposed to become a love song, but somehow it (too) ended up being a sad story. We started making this instruments first and picked a lyric after some of the instrumental visions had already been recorded to the demo. In the lyric the love is obviously present, but also strong feelings about fear of rejection and looking up from depths before surrendering to completely new phases in life. This was also the only lyric where the original poem ended up completely unedited, just a little repetition here and there.”

Rioghan is a solo project performed by singer Rioghan Darcy. Rioghan was founded in 2019 and is based on Lapua, Finland. Rooted deeply in both gothic and progressive metal scenes, she sure should bring something interesting on the table. She started off in 2010 as a poetry and lyric writer, but in 2019 she finally wanted to add some more to the mix and decided to fleshen up some of her words with music. She teamed up with a few skilled songwriters and together they came up with a 4 song EP “Blackened Sky”, which will be released in early 2021. Live lineup is still in the making, but live shows will hopefully start in 2021 with the EP release.

GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT Release New Video ‘Adrift’, New Album Out Now

Reigning as one of the most well-known and highly critically acclaimed experimental instrumental groups out there with a respected musical legacy spanning nearly 20 years, Irish four-piece GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT reaches a career benchmark with the release of their 10th studio album, Ghost Tapes #10.

Album opener “Adrift” serves as a perfect introduction to Ghost Tapes #10. GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT is celebrating their album release by unveiling a moving music video for the track, capturing the listener with challenging time signatures, a punk-esque bass line and an organic, raw sound that will draw them under the spell of the new album. After hearing introductory “Adrift”, Ghost Tapes #10 becomes immediately unstoppable until its last note.

“Adrift” stands as a signature for the whole album, by unveiling many musical elements that can be found in multiple places throughout the whole album. The song was written in January 2020 and with the lack of touring ahead, opened up the possibility to experiment with pedals and amps, instead of using its digital equivalent. Movement is the overall theme, while raw guitar tones play a big part in the song.

Ghost Tapes #10 is certainly the most ferocious GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT full-length to date – it still retains all the rich musical and emotive elements the band is known for by wheeling around luminance, but offers harsh and deep reminiscences as well. Works of art like “Burial”, “In Flux” and “Barren Trees”, with additional guitars by Jimmy Scanlan, amongst others, are proof of these creations of sound. The album’s closer, the atmospheric “Luminous Waves”, captivates in a trance-like mindset – putting one deeply in touch with their inner self, drifting away to stirring tunes of guest cello virtuoso Jo Quail.
The artwork was illustrated by David Rooney, who has worked with the band in the past, and plays into the sense of the foreboding and uncertain times we live in. Ghost Tapes #10 is available as a four-page digipack as well as in multiple limited LP options.
