INTERLOPER Release Drum Play Through For “Glasshouse”

Two weeks ago, progressive heavy metal vehicle, INTERLOPER released their debut EP, A REVENANT LEGACY. Today, the band releases the drum play through for “Glasshouse” which can be seen here:

Aaron Stechauner comments, “This is probably my favorite track to both play and listen to on the record. It has such a strange structure – no real chorus, no hook repeats – yet is so compositionally sound. There are a lot of callbacks, as well as some big developments throughout the song that make you feel ‘at home,’ even without those traditional (and rather necessary) song elements… for example, uhm, a fucking chorus! [laughs] In a way this song feels very much like one of those half-hour long ‘prog epics,’ all in the span of four and a half minutes.”

A REVENANT LEGACY was recorded and produced in house at Sewn Shut Sounds by the band themselves, with mixing and production from producer, friend, and honorary ‘4th member’ Joey Virrueta.

With a full length album completed and set for release in the near future, this EP serves as a stepping stone in the development of INTERLOPER as a whole.

US Sludge Metal Giants BONGZILLA Sign Worldwide Deal With Heavy Psych Sounds For Release Of New Album In Sixteen Years

On the fringe of chaos, in the Year of the Pandemic, the Cannabeast has awoken: 16 years since their last record, Wisconsin Sludge Metal giants BONGZILLA are back with a new full length album!

The pioneers of Weed Metal have signed a worldwide record deal with Heavy Psych Sounds, who will proudly release BONGZILLA’s forthcoming, fifth studio album entitled “Weedsconsin“. The band has also announced to join the HPS Booking roster for Europe.

Six brand new, mindblowing tracks written by the three long standing original band members – Muleboy (bass, vocals), Spanky (guitar), and Magma (drums) – will immediatly contaminate you by the classic Weed-infected sound the band is known for, while also finding new elements mixed into the bowl. “Weedsconsin” delivers some heavy doses of crushing Stoner Doom and Psychedelic Space Rock that sets it apart from earlier material, but travels down a path of heavy riffs, mind-expanding jams, sonic tones, and stomping beats in the band’s first release as a thunderous three piece.

BONGZILLA’s upcoming album was recorded and mixed by the late John Hopkins at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rock Island, Illinois in October 2020, and was mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago, Illinois. “Weedsconsin” is dedicated to the memory of John Hopkins, and will see the light of day through Heavy Psych Sounds, with many more details and album tunes to be revealed, soon. The album pre-sale and a first single release has been announced for February 2, 2021.

BONGZILLA formed in 1995 in Wisconsin. As their name suggests, most of their material is related to marijuana and promotes its legalization. Over the next three years they recorded and released a dozen songs on EPs and split singles, until they signed to Relapse Records in 1998, and have since released four studio albums and a live album through the label. Since the seeds were planted in the mid-90s, BONGZILLA have been sowing Madison, Wisconsin’s rich soil with their homegrown, psychedelic sludge. Following the release of their fourth studio album “Amerijuanican” in 2005, the band toured and remained active until 2009 when the group quietly took a hiatus.

In April 2015 it was announced BONGZILLA was reforming with the Gateway lineup, first announcing a tour of Europe. The band followed up with a four-date tour of the West Coast USA, a tour of the east coast USA and an appearance at Desertfest Belgium. The band began 2017 with a local show in Wisconsin before embarking on another European tour, playing the likes of Roadburn Festival, DesertFest Berlin, DesertFest London, KristonFest and have begun working on material for a new album.

In early 2020, BONGZILLA started their own label Gungeon Records and released a re-issue of their classic album “Apogee”. However, in March of 2020 it would be announced that Cooter Brown would retire from the band due to health and family reasons, with Bongzilla choosing to continue as a thunderous three-piece.

A few months into the pandemic, BONGZILLA began rehearsing and recording for several different record projects – A limited Wake Brewing 7 inch, a full length album titled Weedsconsin, an LP split with the band Tons, and a 7 Inch Split with Boris, the first of a 7 inch Split Series released on Gungeon Records. All projects were recorded at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rockford, Illinois in October of 2020 by the legendary John Hopkins before his sudden and unexpected passing in the late fall of 2020.

On 21st January 2021, the band announces its signing to Italian label Heavy Psych Sounds, for the release of their fifth studio album “Weedsconsin” later in 2021.

In early 2016 Ricardo Escobar (lead guitar) and Antonio Valdés (bass) arrived in Finland, finally realising their dream of moving to Finland to make metal music. By this point they had been working on a band project that would become ULTHIMA for 6 years, first in Mexico and then a couple years in France. In Finland they went through several candidates, before finally establishing a stable lineup in late 2018 with Jon Welti on rhythm guitar, Niko Sutinen on keys, Ville Nummisalo on drums and Tuomas Antila on vocals. Last year Ulthima recorded their debut album out of material that has been in the making since the early days of the band in Mexico.

Listen to the “Tears of Fire”:

Ricardo’s greatest source of inspiration when writing music for Ulthima has been Finnish death metal of the early 2000’s like Children of Bodom and Kalmah. They have been said to sound a lot like Norther. Ulthima’s music is all about epic melodies, rough vocals and fast riffs.

“Tears of Fire marked the beginning of Ulthima as one of the first songs made for the band while we still performed in Mexico. In my mind it’s perhaps the most iconic song of the band, combining epic melodies with some more aggressive riffing.” -Ricardo

FORHIST Unveil Second Single ‘II’

Debemur Morti Productions are thrilled to unveil FORHIST’s second single, simply entitled ‘II‘, taken from the comingdebut “Forhist“. While the album opener and firstly unleashed composition ‘I‘ focused more on the dreamy and atmospheric side, ‘II‘ sees mastermind Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD) embark in colder and more sinister realms. Without denying the firm rooting in the Norwegian Black Metal scene of the 90ies, ‘II‘ is, once again, proof of Vindsval’s unique take on the genre.

Nevertheless, “Forhist” aims at reawakening the mysterious and vibrant feeling of the first years of the Black Metal scene – a time when there was an almost fanatic drive behind the artists and bands:

Black Metal “corresponds to a time, very strange by the way, when we were almost all possessed by the genre, nothing else really existed outside of that and the universe totally cut us off from the “real” world, propelled us very far from our daily adolescent life“, narrates Vindsval in a long interview with the French webzine Le Scribe Du Rock.

”II‘ is now streaming on the YouTube channel of Debemur Morti Productions. “Forhist” will be released on CD, vinyl, tape and digitally on February 26th 2021. Pre-orders are possible now via the label’s EU shop, Bandcamp and US shop.

Unveiling as little as possible about the self-titled debut and exerting a minimalist approach to “Forhist” forces the listener to focus fully on the musical art as well as on the subtle and hypnotizing cover artwork done by enigmatic graphic artist Dehn Sora (THROANE, CHURCH OF RA). Having lost all need for pretentiousness, FORHIST aim at creating a haunted dreamworld of harmonious yet savage riffs, deftly melodic leads, vocal malevolence, mystical choirs, escapist acoustics, perfectly-judged drumming and neo-gothic synth in eight compositions:

01. I
02. II
03. III
04. IV
05. V
06. VI
07. VII
08. VIII

BEYOND GRACE Sign To Prosthetic Records; New Single + Video ‘Fearmonger’ Unleashed

BEYOND GRACE are starting 2021 as the latest band to be signed to the Prosthetic Records roster, with the promise of an abundance of new music to come this year. The first taste of what this British death metal five-piece have in store can be found on their blistering Bandcamp-only single, Fearmonger, accompanied by a politically charged music video from ERD Visual Media.

Of the single, the band comments: “Musically it’s very representative of the direction of the next record – bigger riffs, heavier hooks, tighter, punchier writing – there’s no filler, and everything is just more focussed and fluid. And then, obviously, the speech from Edward R. Murrow serves to reinforce how everything the song is talking about – the cultivation of discord and division, the weaponisation of ignorance and paranoia – isn’t new, and reminds us that we can’t allow ourselves to give in and be driven by fear.”

Fearmonger lays the foundations for an album later this year – if you’re not already on board with BEYOND GRACE, the time is now. Primed to deliver blow after blow of audio violence, BEYOND GRACE are at once cerebral, crushing and cathartic.

Of their signing to Prosthetic the band says: “Signing with Prosthetic isn’t just a validation of our bloody-minded perseverance over the years, it’s an opportunity, and a responsibility, to showcase what we can do, what we’re really capable of, and prove that we’re a band worth listening to. And we’re going to take that opportunity and run with it as far as we can.”

Prosthetic Records’ EJ Johantgen adds: “BEYOND GRACE mark the dawn of a new era in British death metal.”

Fearmonger is available via Bandcamp now. Stay tuned for more from BEYOND GRACE in the coming months.
