THE MIGHTY ONE To Release “Torch Of Rock And Roll” Album, First Single + Video Available

Canadian heavy rock and metal steamroller THE MIGHTY ONE are set to release their brand new record Torch Of Rock And Roll early this spring. Time to share the first song Coming On as a lyric video and single that happens to set the mark for the perfect album opener!

Being the latest song written for the new album and in light of the ongoing pandemic, Coming On kicks it all off with lighting a beacon of hope that is fueled by true gratitude, as mastermind Tim Steinruck states: “This song is inspired by the teachers I have had the opportunity to work with, who have committed to being in service to their fellow humans at all cost. I’m doffing my hat to all of them for their commitment and their ability to cut through the darkness in order to expose the light of truth and pass it to others.”

The song starts with a gloomy intro as a depiction of the universal obscurity that surrounds us until it gets stripped away piece by piece and replaced by knowledge and wisdom as we grow up and learn. A beefy, almost aggressive riff takes its punches at the intro like the exploding power and energy of youth. Sweeping vocal lines get injected into the instrumental staccato, taking it by the hand and shaping it into a true power beast of a rock song. It feels as if a strained valve had just been opened to let the pressure out in a controlled, relieving fashion:

Torch Of Rock And Roll, while being a brutally straight and honest album, is The Mighty One’s most complex and refined output so far. Reflecting upon a life dedicated to heavy music with all the highs and lows, the awe-inspiring moments, the power trips and the heartfelt losses that such a commitment brings, it already hauls the load for a dramatic rock and metal opera. But receiving most songs and the tone-setting final touches in the year 2020, that left us feeling like beaten animals in their cages, borderlining between depression and the will to just break out and follow our damn purposes once again and forever, really made the difference, as there clearly was no room left for clichés.

What started from a dark setting quickly begins to enthuse by the unveiling of the hope and purpose that – seen or unseen – are somewhere inside each and every one of us. The images that Tim Steinruck and his band are painting can best be outlined in his own words: “Sometimes we only find our purpose by looking at the wrongs and shortcomings of our own character, the darker sides, foul and rotten places in the garden, in order to refrain from them and start off again from a state where we feel lighter, kind of unchained and open for a better life, just in the mood to have a party without any cynical touches. The energetic, classic riffs and power-driven hooks are ultimately connected to better times and the jauntiness that we all started off with when we were young. Yet, just as our voice, they are shaped and tuned by the characters that we are today, as we have found our purpose that drives us and keeps us from mentally drowning. Handing over the torch of rock’n’roll feels great as it’s fueled by that fire of purpose.”

Aspirated, refined, thoughtful, energetic and as dynamic as the accumulation of decades of rock can be: This isn’t just a new The Mighty One record, it’s a new The Mighty One.

KAYAK Announce New Studio Album ‘Out Of This World’

Legendary Dutch progressive rockers KAYAK are pleased to announce they will return with their 18th studio album ‘Out Of This World’ on the 7th May 2021. Following the bands return in 2018 with a new line-up, new record label and first new album since 2014 in ‘Seventeen’, the band are excited to reveal its eagerly awaited successor.

Founding member Ton Scherpenzeel comments: “Many people seem to consider the past year as a lost year, due to Covid. I don’t. I am not saying it was great, but it made me realize, once more, how fragile we all are. How connected everything and everyone is, with actions and consequences that touch us all. And that, on a smaller scale, and much closer to home, the new Kayak album could only have turned out the way it did. More than ever, it is clear that working with each other on this level can never be taken for granted. It requires dedication, and respect for each other’s talents and input. That’s the foundation upon which Kayak in 2021 is built.”

Watch a short teaser for the new album here:

The first single from ‘Out of This World’ and the album pre-order will launch 19th February.

‘Out Of This World’, the band’s eighteenth studio album, with 15 new tracks, spanning 70 minutes of energetic and incredibly diverse material- though still very much recognizable as Kayak. It is clear that the new found energy has gained even more momentum since Hans Eijkenaar rejoined the group. Although they were forced to cancel all tours because Ton Scherpenzeel suffered a heart attack at the end of 2019, and immediately after that because of the Covid pandemic, we’re hearing a band that, since the demise of Pim Koopman in 2009, has not sounded more together, balanced and motivated. The current line-up of the band is as follows:

Ton Scherpenzeel – Keyboards, lead and backing vocals
Bart Schwertmann – Lead and backing vocals
Marcel Singor – Guitar, lead and backing vocals
Kristoffer Gildenlöw – Bass, lead and backing vocals
Hans Eijkenaar- Drums

INTERLOPER Release Drum Play Through For “Glasshouse”

Two weeks ago, progressive heavy metal vehicle, INTERLOPER released their debut EP, A REVENANT LEGACY. Today, the band releases the drum play through for “Glasshouse” which can be seen here:

Aaron Stechauner comments, “This is probably my favorite track to both play and listen to on the record. It has such a strange structure – no real chorus, no hook repeats – yet is so compositionally sound. There are a lot of callbacks, as well as some big developments throughout the song that make you feel ‘at home,’ even without those traditional (and rather necessary) song elements… for example, uhm, a fucking chorus! [laughs] In a way this song feels very much like one of those half-hour long ‘prog epics,’ all in the span of four and a half minutes.”

A REVENANT LEGACY was recorded and produced in house at Sewn Shut Sounds by the band themselves, with mixing and production from producer, friend, and honorary ‘4th member’ Joey Virrueta.

With a full length album completed and set for release in the near future, this EP serves as a stepping stone in the development of INTERLOPER as a whole.

US Sludge Metal Giants BONGZILLA Sign Worldwide Deal With Heavy Psych Sounds For Release Of New Album In Sixteen Years

On the fringe of chaos, in the Year of the Pandemic, the Cannabeast has awoken: 16 years since their last record, Wisconsin Sludge Metal giants BONGZILLA are back with a new full length album!

The pioneers of Weed Metal have signed a worldwide record deal with Heavy Psych Sounds, who will proudly release BONGZILLA’s forthcoming, fifth studio album entitled “Weedsconsin“. The band has also announced to join the HPS Booking roster for Europe.

Six brand new, mindblowing tracks written by the three long standing original band members – Muleboy (bass, vocals), Spanky (guitar), and Magma (drums) – will immediatly contaminate you by the classic Weed-infected sound the band is known for, while also finding new elements mixed into the bowl. “Weedsconsin” delivers some heavy doses of crushing Stoner Doom and Psychedelic Space Rock that sets it apart from earlier material, but travels down a path of heavy riffs, mind-expanding jams, sonic tones, and stomping beats in the band’s first release as a thunderous three piece.

BONGZILLA’s upcoming album was recorded and mixed by the late John Hopkins at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rock Island, Illinois in October 2020, and was mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago, Illinois. “Weedsconsin” is dedicated to the memory of John Hopkins, and will see the light of day through Heavy Psych Sounds, with many more details and album tunes to be revealed, soon. The album pre-sale and a first single release has been announced for February 2, 2021.

BONGZILLA formed in 1995 in Wisconsin. As their name suggests, most of their material is related to marijuana and promotes its legalization. Over the next three years they recorded and released a dozen songs on EPs and split singles, until they signed to Relapse Records in 1998, and have since released four studio albums and a live album through the label. Since the seeds were planted in the mid-90s, BONGZILLA have been sowing Madison, Wisconsin’s rich soil with their homegrown, psychedelic sludge. Following the release of their fourth studio album “Amerijuanican” in 2005, the band toured and remained active until 2009 when the group quietly took a hiatus.

In April 2015 it was announced BONGZILLA was reforming with the Gateway lineup, first announcing a tour of Europe. The band followed up with a four-date tour of the West Coast USA, a tour of the east coast USA and an appearance at Desertfest Belgium. The band began 2017 with a local show in Wisconsin before embarking on another European tour, playing the likes of Roadburn Festival, DesertFest Berlin, DesertFest London, KristonFest and have begun working on material for a new album.

In early 2020, BONGZILLA started their own label Gungeon Records and released a re-issue of their classic album “Apogee”. However, in March of 2020 it would be announced that Cooter Brown would retire from the band due to health and family reasons, with Bongzilla choosing to continue as a thunderous three-piece.

A few months into the pandemic, BONGZILLA began rehearsing and recording for several different record projects – A limited Wake Brewing 7 inch, a full length album titled Weedsconsin, an LP split with the band Tons, and a 7 Inch Split with Boris, the first of a 7 inch Split Series released on Gungeon Records. All projects were recorded at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rockford, Illinois in October of 2020 by the legendary John Hopkins before his sudden and unexpected passing in the late fall of 2020.

On 21st January 2021, the band announces its signing to Italian label Heavy Psych Sounds, for the release of their fifth studio album “Weedsconsin” later in 2021.
