One of the most renowned guitarists in the world, ALEXI LAIHO, has passed away. The musician, most notably known as the front man of Children of Bodom, died in his home in Helsinki, Finland, last week. Laiho had suffered from long-term health issues during his last years.

Alexi Laiho and drummer Jaska Raatikainen founded Children of Bodom in 1993, and the band was one of the most internationally acclaimed metal acts in Finland up until their very last farewell concert in December of 2019. Last year Alexi Laiho put together Bodom After Midnight, who recorded three songs and shot one music video, which will be released later on posthumously.
Besides Children of Bodom, Laiho was known for acts such as Warmen, Sinergy, Kylähullut and The Local Band. Awarded with a Metal Hammer Golden Gods and several other international prizes, the guitarist was also the main star, leading a group of one hundred guitar players at Helsinki Festival in 2015 in “100 Guitars From Hel” – a massive concert piece he composed.
“We are crushed by the sudden passing of our dear friend and band member. Words cannot describe this shock and the profound sadness that we feel”, Daniel Freyberg, Mitja Toivonen and Waltteri Väyrynen from Bodom After Midnight state.
The talented guitarist and musician relished his roles as stepdad in his patchwork family, and as uncle and godfather. Especially during the last years, the important family ties brought a welcomed balance to his life and the active touring. Laiho was particularly close with his big sister, parents and his sister’s daughter. Laiho’s sister says:
“We are all absolutely shocked and devastated. We ask for privacy and understanding during these hard times. My little brother’s funeral will take place privately.”
Alexi Laiho will also be deeply missed by his family in Australia.
“Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken”, Kelli Wright-Laiho says.
On New Year’s Day, SAINTED SINNERS ushered in the new year with another video from the current album “Unlocked & Reloaded”. Directed & edited by Volker Thiele, who was responsible for the videos on the first two albums:
“Stone Cold Sober” is the story on reality and (another) fantasy. It’s about the pub scene how it has been until this year and how we have to deal with it in recent times. It’s the story about real life and a sobering couchpotato existence.“
SAINTED SINNERS celebrated on New Year’s Day via an online Meet & Greet with their fans, who then experienced the premiere together.
There are bands who do things by the book…and then there is Louisville, KY’s own BELUSHI SPEED BALL, who have successfully thumbed their collective nose at conformism since 2013. Belushi Speed Ball nominally play an aggressive brand of crossover thrash, but their focus on absurdity and unorthodox aesthetics allows them to stand in a category of their own creation.
Notorious for thrashing (and trashing) venues with their eccentric theatrical performances, every Belushi Speed Ball live experience is deliberately very different from the one prior. Their most recent performance, to paint a vivid picture, was a post-pandemic show where the band played from a moving van, visiting socially distanced bar patios while dressed in apocalyptic Mad Max attire. Each unique live experience is documented on the band’s official youtube channel, “The Señor Diablo Show.” In the words of Leo Weekly, “Watching a Belushi Speed Ball show is a lot like going to a pro wrestling event. There are costumes, outlandish characters and antics, raw energy and the key ingredient: an involved audience.”
To date, the band has released their music on notably obscure media. Prior releases include an album on a comic book, a working album for Gameboy Advance, and a single housed within the bowels of a Furby. Keeping with non-conformist tradition, their newest album will be released on (literal!) tapestry, which includes an informational VHS tape.
Stella 1 and Stella 2 is a double EP set to release January 21st, 2021 via sonaBLAST! Records on CD, digital streaming, and tapestry. Alongside a veritable bevy of crossover bangers, this release features the brand new single “We Are Not Thrashers, We are Hipster Posers,” which was written in response to a harsh youtube comment left in regards to Belushi Speed Ball‘s physical appearance. Says vocalist Senor Diablo in regards to this latest opus: “We are super excited to have worked with Joel Grind and Chase Bensing in producing our new double EP. Keeping with the theme of obscure media release, we are proud to present our new album with informational VHS on literal wall tapestry, in addition to CD and all streaming platforms.”
Stella 1 and Stella 2 was mastered by Joel Grind (of Toxic Holocaust) and recorded and mixed by Chase Bensing. Album art created by Mxtro Catpiss.

RAGE IN MY EYES is a heavy metal band from Brazil. For 17 years the band went under the name SCELERATA, that had a huge history in the Brazilian heavy metal scenario. The band had three albums released worldwide, including the acclaimed album “The Sniper”, feat. guest appearances from Paul DiAnno (former Iron Maiden) and Andi Deris (Helloween). Scelerata was also Paul DiAnno’s official Brazilian backing band from 2009 to 2014, playing 50+ shows with this heavy metal icon. On October 9th, 2019, RAGE IN MY EYES joined IRON MAIDEN in Porto Alegre, Brazil, at Gremio Stadium. With this huge background, the musicians are now aiming for the future.
RAGE IN MY EYES’ latest album, entitled “Ice Cell”, is available on all digital platforms. The album was recorded between 2017 and 2018 in the cities of Los Angeles (USA) and Porto Alegre (Brazil) and was produced by Magnus Wichmann at Magneto Studio (Brazil) and Daufembach Studio (USA). It was mixed and mastered in Los Angeles by the renowned Brazilian producer Adair Daufembach. The cover was designed by Tiago Masseti, who has worked with Hibria, Luis Kalil and Daydream XI. According to the band, the graphic art seeks to show the mascot Sage in a darker mood: “We wanted to present a more realistic Sage, with a strong expression and at the same time that seemed marked by life; we brought him closer to us.”
Italian Death Metal band CREPUSCOLO have released a new music video “My Scars Tell A Story” from the second full-lenght studio album “You Tomb”.
“You Tomb” is the second full-lenght studio album by CREPUSCOLO. 10 songs of pure and granitic Old School Death Metal, with the sound typical to Swedish over-gain and crunchy style – heavy guitars, like-a-tank bass, powerful and speedy drums, deep and intensive growls.
American Thrash/Death style has driven Crepuscolo’s style too. The 10 songs are the summa of Crepuscolo way of composing and intending Death Metal, nothing is left to chance, every note of every riff has been thought to be conseguence of the first one and the motor-breath of the following one, amalgamated by passion e feeling.
Lyrics are about many stuff: “My Scars Tell A Story” is a deep thought about how much hard sometimes life is; “Unzen” talks about a Japanese vulcano; “Under the Oak’s Shadow” is about our souls and the feeling with nature; “You Tomb” is an angry scream against apathetic people who prefer to stay in front of a computer instead of living a real life; “The Fate That Life Gives” is a reflection about destiny; “Not for the Mass” talks about the fact that Death Metal is not for everyone, but just for who live in that way; “Shock” is a shout against the earthquake that destroyed people lives 2 years ago; “Monomania” is inspired by a E.A. Poe’s novel; “Reflected Soul” is an istrumental song, dedicated to a friend who passed away; “Memento” is taken and translated from an Italian poet Iginio Ugo Tarchetti.
“You Tomb” recommended for fans of Dismember, Entombed, At The Gates, Grave, Sepultura, Obituary and more…
Polish death metal legends VADER have issued their Happy New Year 2021 message for their fans, read below.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021 !!! THX for ALL of YOU Vadermaniax, for Your endless support – even in those hard times of global pandemia, which grounded all live activity in 2020. We were – and we WILL trying to give You as much VADER as possible so we all together can survive those hard times.
How was 2020 for the band? Not that bad tho… We were forced to cancel so many shows, festivals and other events, that were in plans BUT we still made total 48 shows (and 4 tours) in 14 countries and… we released long awaited new album “Solitude in Madness” with Nuclear Blast in May \m/ We also focused little more on our official online store and started some projects like limited live record “Wings Over Hong Kong”. VADER also ended 2020 with very special streaming show just few days ago – pretty weird but kinda interesting experience in these “no-touring” days.
We have so many new ideas and plans for the upcoming months in 2021….but , of course, we all hope to see YOU on real shows AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Stay well, Stay Metal and…STAY VADERIZED !!!!!!
December 30th, VADER streamed their extraordinary Toruń show, as a special Christmas gift for their fans, carried out thanks to the support from the COVID-19 pandemic fundraising. The show is now available on Massive Music’s Youtube Channel.
