Brazilian band BAIXO CALÃO releases the single with a music video for the song “Pódio de entrada”, featuring the famous singer of the band Ratos de Porão, João Gordo. The song is released by the label Xaninho Discos and brings all the energy of Brazilian Grindcore, mixed with the punk rock of Ratos de Porão, known all over the world.
Formed in mid-1996 in the city of Belém do Pará, Baixo Calão made a hardcore punk sound. The band’s first demo, from 2003 ‘Homo Postumus’, features more Crust-Grind rhythms. In the debut album ‘Atmo Mediokra’ (2012) the band was already doing Grindcore oldschool and won a European tour in July 2012, passing through eight countries, a tour that featured participation in the festival OBSCENE EXTREME FESTIVAL (2012) that takes place in Czech Republic, sharing the stage with bands like Yacopsae, Discharge, Nasum, Gutalax and Sakata.
After some changes in formation and releases in several European countries, Baixo Calão was invited to perform some shows in 2020, due to the pandemic some were canceled and others postponed. Then, the band focused on studio work during the pandemic, generating several new compositions, including participation in splits with bands from Latin America and the release of the single with the participation of João Gordo.
Baixo Calão continues to promote his new studio album, entitled ‘Necrology’, which in 2021 will gain its LP format.
DAN WEISS STAREBABY, the NYC-based avant-jazz supergroup led by drummer DAN WEISS, presents an engaging new official video for “Head Wreck.” The collective sees WEISS joined by Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantômas) on bass, Ben Monder on guitar, and the twin-attack of Matt Mitchell and Craig Taborn on keyboards, pianos, and electronics.
“Head Wreck” is found on the outfit’s acclaimed second LP, Natural Selection, which saw release in September via jazz label Pi Recordings. The intriguing and intense album was expertly captured by veteran recording engineer Ron Saint Germain (Soundgarden, Living Colour, Bad Brains, Sonic Youth) and mastered by Joe Gastwirt. The video for “Head Wreck” was directed and filmed by Mimi Chakarova and edited by Derek O. Hanley and showcases this incredibly proficient unit capturing the song in the studio.
Offers DAN WEISS with the “Head Wreck” video, “I really like the way the video captures the energy of the recording session. I remember that I was really frustrated before this particular take – the fourth or fifth. The drum part that I wrote for myself is really demanding, and I wasn’t quite getting it. I finally nailed it in this take and let loose on the ending, improvised drum solo, hitting extremely hard and letting out my aggression. I also love everyone’s solo on this take. Monder plays some beautiful yet crushing stuff.”

Natural Selection is out now, on CD via Pi Recordings’ webshop HERE and through all digital service providers including Bandcamp HERE.
Natural Selection is the highly anticipated follow-up to drummer composer DAN WEISS‘s 2018 release Starebaby. Along with WEISS, the rest of the collective – who all return from the first album – is made up of a dream-team of musicians who share a love for heavy metal and whose playing is unbound by genre.
The recording of Natural Selection came fast at the end of a run of performances for the band – also named STAREBABY – which helped further cement the group’s unique sound. It’s staggering to contemplate the wide-ranging ability of these musicians from bone-crunching power to pensive reflection; exacting hits to improvised texture; faith to the compositions and manic improvisation. Each of these musicians is a leader in his own right; their 2019 releases evidence the sheer scope of their individual talents.
Multi-instrumentalist and solo artist Joey Diabolic has released a cover of White Zombie’s classic track “Creature of the Wheel”. The song is from his upcoming EP Through Soundwaves Vol 3 which will be hitting digital music platforms on January 15th, 2021.
Diabolic says, “I gotta be honest, it took me awhile to figure out which Astro Creep 2000 song to cover. When I finally figured out that my next releases were definitely going to be a fan-fiction reinterpretation of the Freddy Krueger/A Nightmare On Elm Street story line, ‘Creature of the Wheel’ was the most obvious choice.”
“It’s pretty obvious that I love White Zombie… So much so that I got their logo tattooed on my right bicep. As far as covering the song, I wanted to encapsulate my experiences of listening to their albums since 1993. There was no one that sounded like them… They were true originals.”

The video is a special end of year celebration, as the band says: “It will be the first time that we will pay our simple tribute to this very special date, Christmas, when the hypocritical hearts of rich and poor alike are filled with joy and commerce is full of passersby eager to buy overpriced gifts by date and by table, to take or spread a terrible covid “.
