An amazing meeting took place on August 31, 1996. That’s when Eddie Van Halen spent the day with a guy who had followed in his footsteps playing alongside David Lee Roth—Jason Becker. Jason hadbeendiagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and was not in good shape. Van Halen came to Jason’s house to give love and support—as well as a guitar—to his friend and to film an ALS awareness promotional video. During that time, Eddie told stories, talked about his creative process, and played amazing music, instantly sounding exactly like Eddie Van Halen even when playing Jason’s guitar through a small practice amp.
This never-before-seen footage shows a side of Eddie Van Halen that goes far beyond his brilliant musicianship: a sweet, caring, generous personality, devoid of the trappings of fame or rock stardom. The video also documents the incredible strength of Jason Becker, who had been deprived of his shot at fame as well as his genius guitar skills, but still found the courage and the will to battle a debilitating disease.
“Eddie was such a beautiful person,” says Becker. “He was incredibly kind to me and my family. Not only was he my biggest influence, he had such a huge heart. He honestly saved my life.”
This video is a must-see piece of history, not just for guitarists but for everyone. It truly shows the magic of kindness, and a depth of emotion that we can all use more of.
EN MINOR – the Southern gothic/dark Americana project led by Philip H. Anselmo (Down, Pantera, Scour, etc.) – played a special livestream late last month. The eight-camera, cinematic experience found the ensemble performing at the historic Orpheum Theater in New Orleans, Louisiana. Built in 1918, and opened for Vaudeville in 1921, the magnificent Beaux-Arts-style building is currently the home of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and is prized for its acoustical purity. It was perhaps the most fitting setting to bring the soul of EN MINOR to life.
Comments Anselmo of the experience, “Just being able to make music with such a talented group is beautiful and overwhelming. Add in the unique and amazing opportunity to play at The Orpheum, and I’m in another galaxy. Love all y’all, big time!”
His bandmates agree.
Kevin Bond: “This was the best experience I’ve had playing music so far.”
Stephen Taylor: “It was a phenomenal experience, and an absolute pleasure working with a first-class group of people. Thanks to all involved with putting this event together, and to the fans of our music.”
Steve Bernal: “Watching this show is like looking into a new dimension of Philip’s career and seeing some expansive possibilities. The band plays together like an orchestra – tasteful, disciplined, with nuanced dynamics and pacing. The visual and audio qualities are executed at the highest professional level, too.. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Joiner Dover: “With beautiful cinematography and superior sound quality, EN MINOR has set the bar for all future streaming events!”
Calvin Dover: “The word repeatedly used at The Orpheum was ‘surreal’ and I couldn’t have agreed more…what a truly magical endeavor.”
The performance, which includes openers and recent Housecore Records signees Spirit In The Room, will be available on-demand throughout the month.

An experimental and eclectic musical endeavor that finds Anselmo exploring a softer, graver vocal style, EN MINOR is an honest and deliberate change of pace for the legendary frontman delivering brooding tales of pain, regret, and sorrow. The Orpheum Theater performance featured Anselmo backed by the collective talents of Stephen Taylor (Superjoint, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Wovenhand, 16 Horsepower), Kevin Bond (Superjoint, Christ Inversion, Artimus Pyledriver), Jose Manuel “Blue” Gonzalez (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Superjoint, Warbeast), Paul Webb (Classhole, Mountain Of Wizard, The Mystick Krewe Of Clearlight), Calvin and Joiner Dover (The Dover Brothers), and Steve Bernal (former first cellist in the Temple Symphony Orchestra).
EN MINOR released its long-awaited debut full-length, When The Cold Truth Has Worn Its Miserable Welcome Out, early this September via Housecore Records. Recorded and mixed at Anselmo’s Nodferatu’s Lair Studio on the Northshore outside of New Orleans, Louisiana, the critically lauded offering is available on CD, digital, and vinyl formats. With the characteristic combination of folk tones, acoustic guitars and a singing voice that is both rough and fragile at the same time, MARTIN RUBASHOV paints cinematic sceneries for the listener of being a seeking wanderer in the deep forest of the Swedish forests of Hälsingland. In the distance, the sun falls through the pines that create a warm contrast against the dark trees. The ground is covered with cold muddy moss and the dew lies like unshaded smoke over lingonberry and uprooted trees. You hear the sound of something moving in the dark. Eyes are watching you vigilantly from the crowns of the trees and you can sense something or someone insidious through the light morning fog. The environment is timeless, as a world of your own imagination in a dull future dystopia, with a shimmering streak of hope twined as a golden thread in the dark web.
Big trees, massive mountains and deep waters are some of the factors that frequently lure Martin Rubashov into the forest. The tangible awareness of being a small part of something bigger helps him to stay close to the feeling of what is truly and authentic. In 2018, Martin Rubashov released his latest album ‘The Nature Script’ that was followed up by the old folk song ‘Hårga’ last year. On December 11th Martin Rubashov release ‘Lights of July‘, the first single of the upcoming album that will be released in 2021.
‘Lights of July‘ carries a subtle combination between the darkness and mysterious forest in harmony with the light that strikes in between the treetops, where the two hypnotizing voices captivate the listener into the woods. Martin Rubashov tells about the single and the collaboration with Jonas Renkse (Katatonia): “I wrote ‘Lights of July’ a late evening in July this year in my hometown Hälsingland. I was wandering in the woods and it felt like the light was something extraordinary. The song is about playing hide and seek in the midnight sun and there’s nowhere to hide, and how difficult it is to hide nowadays in a world where you’re almost always reachable. The entire planet is exploited and most of it has been discovered. It’s hard to find the perfect hiding place.. I’ve listened to the band Katatonia a lot through the years and has always been impressed by Jonas way of singing. He’s unique in that way and I knew that he had spent some time in Hälsingland at his young age, so I was very happy and honored when he told me that he wanted to sing with me in this song.”
Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) tells about the collaboration: “Happy to be featured on ”Lights of July”. When Martin asked me to be part and presented the song to me, I thought it had a very special vibe to it. Mellow, mysterious and fleeting. Just like the Swedish summer“. // Jonas Renkse
The upcoming album will be acoustic and dream-like with the sounds of nature weaved into the soundscape. Martin describes the music as “the feeling of landing on a cold but inspiring and encouraging world, inside a warm pine forest.” He continues “I’ll use my twelve stringed guitar a lot more and I have written the majority of the material, I still haven’t left the forest and I’ll stay here when it comes to my music. I want to widen my view more. Wander deeper into the forest. Build sounds to connect the songs and record more of nature to tie into the lyrics that take place here.”

Indie Recording’s latest signing, Swedish KNOGJÄRN (Eng.: Knuckle-duster), are the IN-YOUR-FACE, kick-ass kind of Hard Rock! The band is out with a re-issue of their new album “Stora och Farliga” (Eng.: Great and Dangerous), including the new track “Älskar Ingen“(Eng.:Love No One). It’s that type of music to turn the volume to 11 and rock ‘til you f***ing drop!
With its explicit Swedish lyrics and an emphasis on the “Hard” in Hard Rock, the unique sub-genre of Swedish Hard Rock is something you’ve got to love – including Knogjärn. The quartet stay true to their genre while turning it up some notches, pumping up the listener and making you fight-ready to rock extremely hard!
Since the start in 2015, Knogjärn has delivered nothing but sonic raging anger with an unapologetic, IN-YOUR-FACE attitude. The foursome drops super-charged records, but they hit even harder when on stage: “We want you to like our live performance even if you don´t like our music”, the band states. Their records are the testimony that Knogjärn always give 100%! Hard’n’heavy riffs with raging vocals and explicit lyrics speak beyond their vernacular, beloved by their ever-growing crowd of fans, who has already started to cover themselves in Knogjärn-tattoos!
HOLLOW CROWN, the rock four-piece who star in the video game LFDR, have unveiled the video for new single ‘Biblical’.
The band comment on the video: “Mother Mary Magdolin enchants a pagan deep in the forest! Delivering a fatal dose of punishing ecstasy. The music video is based around the death of Paganism to Christianity using Mother Mary Magdolin’s image to charge the pagan’s sexual centre with a fatal dose of nirvana”.
Routed in anti-establishment punk and heavy thrash brutality, HOLLOW CROWN deliver punishing riffs, hard-hitting drum patterns, pumping bass and savagely open lyrics.
The Bristol quartet rose to prominence online with their highly unique and clever approach to engagement; their own video game LFDR. First launched in 2018 and rebooted earlier this year, LFDR is fast-paced shooter available on the Google and Apple stores, which boasts over 2500 regular players and rave reviews on The Metro and more. HOLLOW CROWN released their debut EP Seventh Gate via the game, which is currently the only place it can be heard.
The excitement around LFDR and HOLLOW CROWN prompted them to book two home town shows in 2019 – Louisiana The Fleece in Bristol – both of which sold out.
With a proven real-world fanbase, the band felt it was time to unleash their sound via new single ‘Biblical’ on the wider world, releasing via conventional platforms.
In a new age where creative and intelligent marketing efforts are not just an advantage but essential to cut through the noise, HOLLOW CROWN promise to be a band that will be hard to miss in 2021.
HOLLOW CROWN will release a brand new record in 2021, more news soon.
