FANG were among the leaders in the West Coast’s hardcore scene, and were part of early East Bay punk rock scene. FANG were established in Berkeley, California, United States, in 1980. FANG are back with a blistering new single and video Minneapolisvia Die Laughing Records. FANG dropped their latest album Rise Up! in 2019.
“On Thursday May 28th, 2020 the 3rd precinct of the Minneapolis police dept. was set on fire and burned by protesters following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis cops. This and many other recent and historic events are the impetus for the new Fang song Minneapolis. There is, and has been, a war going on for far too long in America and every citizen, every person with a voice and a body needs to rise up and join the fight. This song is a call to arms and a condemnation of the diseased history of the United States and the continued systemic racism that exists.” – Sammytown (Fang)
Fang is an influential San Francisco Bay Area / Long Beach based band established 1980 in the hardcore scene of Berkeley, CA. Current line up is original front man Sam McBride (Sammytown) on vocals along with Obadiah Bowling and Tommy Knox on guitar, bass player Brandon Brown and drummer Mike 86.
Among the leaders in the West Coast’s hardcore scene, Fang has influenced many bands and many high-profile bands have covered Fang material. Mudhoney, the Butthole Surfers, Metallica, and Nirvana all covered The Money Will Roll Right In, and I Wanna Be On TV was covered by Green Day. Founding guitarist Tom Flynn‘s distinct guitar playing has also influenced many followers, including those in the grunge genre.
And while we can’t claim Fang is the ‘hardest working band in show biz’, we do know that they are one of the most enduring and productive hardcore bands ever!
Sammytown and Fang were also profiled in the documentary Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk.

Belgian dark metal outfit EMPTINESS are now revealing the cover artwork, track-titles and other album details of their upcoming new full length; ‘Vide’! The album is produced by vocalist/bass player Jérémie Bézier, who is trying to create something authentic and avoid all external energies. The tracking mostly happenened during the Belgian lockdown, in his appartement and rooftop 7th floor in Brussels.
EMPTINESS comment om the album: “‘Vide’ was meant as a claustrophobic album, a journey of an infinite mind stuck into a world too small. Questioning the essence of once perceptions, this album invites you to rethink your grasp of reality.”
‘Vide will be released on February 12, 2021 and pre-orders will start soon. All further details can now be found below.
Track-list 1. Un corps à l’abandon (4:16) 2. Vide, incomplet (4:12) 3. Le mal est chez lui (3:42) 4. Le sévère (0:30) 5. Ce beau visage qui brûle (3:39) 6. Détruis‐moi à l’amour (4:34) 7. Plus jamais (6:21) 8. L’erreur (4:31) 9. On n’en finit pas (4:14) 10. L’ailleurs (7:33)
EMPTINESS are back with their 6th full length ‘Vide’, the record that might be described as the most accurate musical representation of the year 2020; Unsettling anxiety manifestation in sonic form!
Extreme music has always been drawn towards the dark side of artistic expression. This has often led to an ever escalating race of trying to push the boundaries by just becoming harder, faster, and somehow louder. EMPTINESS beg to differ and their new album ‘Vide’ makes abundantly clear just how far the Belgian explorers of the tenebrous are willing to go.
Founded in Europe’s centre of gravity, Brussels, Belgium in the year 1998, EMPTINESS embarked on their musical journey with a burning vision to delve deep into darkness and horror. While the band was taking musical inspiration from different extreme styles such as black and death metal, the Belgians approached them in an open minded manner of continuous experimentation.
Following their inception, EMPTINESS first released the two demos ‘Eternal Rising’ (2000) and ‘Necrorgy’ (2002) that received a remarkable welcome in the underground. Yet with each new album, ‘Guilty to Exist’ (2004), ‘Oblivion’ (2007), ‘Error’ (2012), and ‘Nothing but the Whole’ (2014), the Belgians were also increasingly leaving a mark in mainstream music press.
EMPTINESS scored the devil’s luck in and won the perfect production set-up to create new sinister soundscapes during the recordings of ‘Not For Music’ in 2017. After recording in their own Blackout Studio, the Belgians received an invitation to further enhance the production of ‘Not for Music’ by Jeordie White aka Twiggy Ramirez (MARILYN MANSON, A PERFECT CIRCLE, NINE INCH NAILS). The final mix and mastering was done by Sean Beavan (GUNS N’ ROSES, NIN, SLAYER).
‘Vide’ (2021) was meant as a claustrophobic album, a journey of an infinite mind stuck into a world too small. Questioning the essence of once perceptions, this album invites you to rethink your grasp of reality. To that end, it was important for EMPTINESS to be isolated during its “experimentations”. Recordings would take place sometimes in confined spaces like apartments or a cabin in the woods, and sometimes on a city roof allowing to contemplate a strange human world from above. Involvement was strictly limited to the band members who took care of all audio production and visuals work. The pandemic and lockdown happened while recording was in progress; a materialization of the imaginary world being created. The album either by coincidence or not, is in tune with our dissonant times.
Enough. Put down your phone, go lock yourself in a small compartment wearing nothing but noisecanceling headphones and let EMPTINESS lure you into their new realm. You have been warned.
Recording Studio & Sound Engineers: Recorded with a portable recording setup, in an apartment, a cabin in the woods and a rooftop. Drums recorded in Blackout studio (BE).
America’s leading pagan metallers HELSOTT have unveiled a new music video for the song “Helsott”. The track appears on their debut full-length, “Woven,” which will be reissued this Friday (Nov. 13) by M-Theory Audio in celebration of the group’s 10th anniversary. The video – designed by Raf Ortega of Ecliptic Visions – can be viewed below.
Says vocalist Eric Dow, “The song ‘Helsott’ embodies the essence of death knocking on your door. With all of the death that we have seen in 2020, it seems like the perfect time to reissue it with a lyric video. The song both aggressively and beautifully articulates the experience of death. Some die alone, others with loved ones by their side, and some are even self-sacrificing. This song ambitiously confronts the inevitable fate we all share.”
Originally released in 2014, “Woven” has been newly remixed and remastered by J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm, Misery Index) and features striking fantasy artwork by Felipe Machado Franco (Iced Earth, Blind Guardian). A limited-edition, 180-gram white wax pressing of 200 hand-numbered copies will mark the album’s first-ever vinyl release. The CD, meanwhile, will include the band’s 2012 debut EP “Fólkvangr” – which has also been remixed and remastered by Dagenais – as bonus tracks. Both formats of “Woven” are available now for pre-order at http://smarturl.com/helsott.
Since their formation, the California-based HELSOTT – whose name means “fatal illness” in Old Norse – has paid homage to pagan cultures and mythologies while keeping true to their American influences. The group’s unique mix of folk metal, death metal, symphonic metal, thrash, classical and rock first caught the attention of audiences on a large scale during the 2013 Paganfest North American tour, where they performed with Ensiferum, Tyr and Trollfest. That tour set the stage for the 2014 release of “Woven,” which was supported with tours alongside Arkona and Heidevolk.
While the original songs contained on “Woven” were powerful musical statements in their own rights, the newly remixed and remastered version of the record breathes new life and reinvigorated strength into the band’s already-stellar work.
“‘Woven’ sonically reveals our lives at the time – the ups and downs, thrills and chills,” says drummer Cooper Dustman of the band’s formative work. “A dance between beauty and brutality make this a true staple to a sound that represents our journey in metal music.”
“‘Woven’ is a collection of songs written during a dark time in my life,” says guitarist Mark Dow. “It was, at that time, my escape from all of that nonsense. I am very happy to finally present it in the way it’s meant to be heard thanks to J-F Dagenais.”
“‘Woven’ is one of my best achievements in my life,” adds Eric Dow. “With this reissue, we included our 2012 EP ‘Fólkvangr,’ which has also been remixed and mastered by J-F. Now every song in our catalog has been mixed and mastered by J-F and released by M-Theory Audio. I couldn’t be happier about that!”
In the years since the original release of “Woven,” HELSOTT has released an EP (2017’s “The Healer”) and a second full-length (2018’s “Slaves and Gods”) and logged many touring miles worldwide with artists including Korpiklaani, I Am Morbid, Necrophagia, Tengger Cavalry, Ashes of Ares, Felix Martin, Arkona, Skyforger and Finsterforst. In addition, the band has performed at major European festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Cernunnos Pagan Fest. The group is currently working on a new album, which they hope to release in 2021.
Founded in 2007 and after releasing three studio records, Austrian symphonic power metal heroes DRAGONY return to their rock opera roots on their brand new album, Viribus Unitis, out January 15, 2021 via Napalm Records. Following up on the conceptual approach of their debut album, Legends, on the new album, the band unveils the true history of their home country. We return to the days when Austria was ruled by emperor Franz Joseph and his wife, empress Sisi – but forget everything you’ve heard and read so far!
Today the band has unleashed an energetic music video for their first single and album opener, “Gods Of War”, setting the stage for their imaginative historical concept to unfold.
DRAGONY about the track: “The first single “Gods of War” is also the opening track of the album, and sets the stage for the story that is to come: The year is 1867, and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria is forced to accept the terms of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise after suffering losses in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, effectively establishing the dual monarchy that became known as the “k. & k. Monarchy”. In this situation, he is questioning whether his empire even has a future, or only its glorious past.
The music for the song was co-written by Tommy Johansson from SABATON & MAJESTICA with his partner in SYMPHONY OF TRAGEDY, Tomas Svedin, with the vocal lines and lyrics having been composed by our singer Siegfried. Musically, it’s therefore a very “Scandinavian-sounding” song that adds another texture to the catalogue of DRAGONY, and we are already very much looking forward to playing this one live at future shows!“
SABATON’s Tommy Johansson on “Gods Of War”: What DRAGONY did to “Gods of War” is far beyond what I could have expected it to turn out when this song was written. How they play and sing this song is just glorious! It’s so powerful and you can sing along to the chorus right away. I’m happy and honored I got to be a part of DRAGONY, and the song suits well to the rest of this epic album!”

What really happened at the time of the last Habsburg ruler of Austria, his wife and their son, the troubled Archduke Rudolf, is revealed by the symphonic power metal six-piece on their fourth full-length, Viribus Unitis. Let’s clear the assumption that Rudolph died after trying to take his life at castle Mayerling in 1889. No way! Instead, after his mother Sisi is assassinated in 1898 in Switzerland, he subsequently gets in contact with dark powers which, driven by his desire to be with her again, make him turn to black magic and demonology. Now history takes its true course. There are not only zombies and cyberpunks lurking – DRAGONY also managed to prove further entanglements of well-known personalities you could never imagine…
For the exciting adventure cemented in their upcoming album, the Austrians around former VISIONS OF ATLANTIS singer Siegfried Samer are supported by well-known colleagues like Tommy Johansson (SABATON, MAJESTICA, SYMPHONY OF TRAGEDY), Tomas Svedin (SYMPHONY OF TRAGEDY), Michele Guaitoli (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS) and Georg Neuhauser (SERENITY) – just to name a selection. Mixing and mastering on Viribus Unitis was handled by Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann of ORDEN OGAN in his Greenman Studios in Germany.
Singer Siegfried Samer on the new album, Viribus Unitis: “Viribus Unitis marks both a return to our musical roots as well as a next step into the future for DRAGONY, as we are returning to a “rock opera concept” album similar to our debut Legends, but at the same time, we have evolved musically and are delivering what we consider our heaviest and most diverse album to date. And even though we are taking a bit of a creative approach with the source material, the concept story of the album is deeply intertwined with the history of Austria and in particular with the end of the Habsburg monarchy, which is often romanticized in Austria and ingrained in our collective consciousness. We are therefore thrilled to be able to release this very special album on an Austrian label, Napalm Records, and hope that both old and new fans of DRAGONY will enjoy the brand new songs!”
Could DRAGONY’s rewriting of history mark a new revelation of hidden truths previously shrouded in fantasy? Only Viribus Unitis tells all!
Viribus Unitis tracklist: 1. On the Blue Danube 2. Gods of War 3. Love You to Death 4. Magic 5. Darkness Within 6. A.E.I.O.U. 7. Viribus Unitis 8. Golden Dawn 9. Made of Metal (Cyberpunk Joseph) 10. Battle Royale 11. Legends Never Die 12. Haben Sie Wien schon bei Nacht geseh’n
Italian female fronted metal band SOULS OF DIOTIMA are proud to announce the release of their fourth full-length studio album early next year. The ten-tracks record will be produced by the band’s own label Diotima Records and licensed and distributed by Rockshots Records worldwide.
Watch the trailer for the new album here:
The album titled “Janas” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Oscar Nilsson at Crehate Studios in Mölndal (Sweden).
“We think our fans will be surprised by our upcoming record as we consider it the album of our maturity. It moves a bit away from our previous ones, while still maintaining our signature style. Songwriting-wise ‘Janas’ is more direct and incisive. We have abandoned all those habits and frills that made some parts of our earlier work a little hard to listen to. Instead, we worked more on immediacy and emotions”, says founder member, lyricist and drummer Giorgio Pinna.
SOULS OF DIOTIMA is a band with a unique style, featuring recognizable elements of traditional, progressive and symphonic metal, as well as unconventional elements, woven together musically in a powerfully expressive new way. Their style recalls Mediterranean atmospheres and traditions, and you can call it “Mediterranean Metal”.
