ACCUSER Launch Lyric Video For New Single “Misled Obedience”

On November 13th, ACCUSER will release their new self-titled album via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of Accuser, a lyric video for the new single, “Misled Obedience”, can be viewed here:

The first single, “Phantom Graves”, can be heard at: metalblade.com/accuser – where the record can also be pre-ordered in various formats.

Since they began flying the flag for German thrash in the 80s, Accuser have gone on to prove themselves one of the most enduring forces in global metal. With eleven full-lengths behind them, they return in 2020 with their latest masterwork: a blistering collection that captures everything that makes the band so vital, produced by longtime collaborator Martin Buchwalter (who has worked on five Accuser albums) and mastered by Dan Swanö. “You stay fresh through curiosity,” states vocalist/guitarist Frank Thoms. “Writing new songs keeps you fresh, and it is always exciting how things develop and how the listener reacts to them afterwards. This process never gets boring. It is always exciting and invites you to try new things.” The result is a dynamic album that is very much rooted in thrash, but still takes the listener through various moods and styles, further cementing Accuser‘s status as leaders, not followers.

The return of lead guitarist René Schütz to the band’s ranks – who appeared on multiple Accuser records prior to 2011 – only served to up the ante on Accuser. “We are very, very happy to have him back in the band, and as you will be able to hear, his leads are definitely over the top. From my perspective, he is one of the very, very few thrash metal guitarists who are able to combine technique and feeling in a proper way.” With writing for the new record commencing as soon as 2018’s The Mastery was completed, Thoms pushed himself until he was in “100% concentration mode”, knowing he is on the right path when he forgets his daily routine and normal life falls away. With no structure or plan envisaged, the songs came together naturally, as they always have. “The Accuser sound is in our DNA, and at the end of the day, it is our own blend of thrash metal. To be honest, that’s what I like best during the process of making a record, seeing how the music develops and how the album is taking shape.” The shape Accuser took is definitely versatile, and perhaps sounds simpler than it actually is. “We managed to make well thought-out songs sound simple. Crazy things don’t seem like a disturbance or a foreign body. In addition, we have inconspicuously processed various genres of metal. Ultimately, we just tried to offer the essence of the band, the groove from ‘Repent‘ (1992), the riffs in the veins of ‘Who Dominates Who‘ (1989), plus structures that could be found on the first album ‘The Conviction‘ (1987) and stylistics that could be from ‘Reflections‘ (1994) or ‘Taken By The Throat‘ (1995) – everything put together in catchy songs.”

The combination of these elements that shout back to earlier  Accuser releases – without repeating or copying themselves – alongside the return of Schütz, led Thoms to believe this album “must be called Accuser“.

Italian metallers LABYRINTH will return with their new studio album, “Welcome to the Absurd Circus” in 2021. Once again, speedy power metal songs with unforgettable hooks, epic prog infused metal songs, and some great melodic numbers constitute a record which is going to become another milestone for the Italian metal masters! “Welcome To The Absurd Circus” follows the band’s well-received 2017 comeback album, “Architecture of a God”. Today, fans can get their first taste of the album with the new single and video, ‘The Absurd Circus’.

Pre-order/save “Welcome To The Absurd Circus” HERE: https://orcd.co/labyrinth

In the spring of 2016, the band’s founding members Andrea Cantarelli and Olaf Thorsen received a call from Frontiers, asking them to discuss with singer Roberto Tiranti the possibility of a comeback for the band. After much thought, the guys agreed to get back together and round out the line-up with John Macaluso (now replaced by Mattia Peruzzi), Oleg Smirnoff (Vision Divine, Eldritch) on keyboards, and Nik Mazzucconi (Hardline, Edge of Forever) on bass, Labÿrinth’s comeback album “Architecture of a God” (2017) was a definite and true return to form.

With the release of “Return to Heaven Denied” in 1998, Labÿrinth had a “classic” album on their hands, which was embraced by fans and metal scribes alike and gave a strong push not only to the band’s career, but also to the Italian metal scene as a whole. More albums followed, but after the release of “Return to Heaven Denied, Pt. 2 – A Midnight Autumn Dream” in 2010 the band went on an indefinite hiatus.

Their return in 2017 was greeted with open arms by metal fans from around the globe. Their upcoming release sees the band continuing the reinvigoration they showed on “Architecture Of A God” and pushing it even further.

A must hear for not only fans of the band, but progressive and power metal fans in general.

LEAVES’ EYES Release “War Of Kings” Video

The brand new video “War Of Kings” has been released on 28th October 2020 – watch the new epic clip by LEAVES’ EYES now on the AFM YouTube channel:

This song is taken from the recent album “The Last Viking” which came out on Friday, 23rd October, 2020. It obviously meets the German metal fan’s approval by entering Germany album charts on #28 in week no. 1.

The album is taking you on a journey to past times – per annum 1066, the last Viking King, called Hardrada, is dead – the Vikings’ age is over. Long live the Vikings.

“The Last Viking” is the 2020-monumental-piece of LEAVES’ EYES. The setting of the symphonic metal masterpiece couldn’t be more tremendous. With their cult-albums “Vinland Saga” (2005) and “King of Kings” (2015) they already turned Leif Erikssons discovery of America and the life of Norway’s first king into music. Now, LEAVES’ EYES bring the Viking Sagas to their bombastic finale.

New Fossil Discovery Named After ROTTING CHRIST

Metal veteran brothers Sakis and Themis Tolis of the Greek metal legends ROTTING CHRIST have been bestowed the immortal honor of having a newly discovered fossil species named after them! Two researchers from the Natural History Museum in Luxembourg,  Dr. Ben Thuy and and Dr. Lea Numberger, recently found a new brittle-star species and decided to name it “Brezinacantha Tolis” in honor of the Tolis brothers.

Sakis Tolis comments, “My deepest thanks to the paleontological community, and especially to Dr. Ben Thuy and Dr. Lea Numberger, to name a fossil under my name! This is one of the greatest honors I have received as an individual and musician and gives me power to keep on creating during these wild times. Brezinacantha Tolis can be found in the Natural History Museum in Maastricht. If you are close have a look!”

Dr. Ben Thuy and Dr. Lea Numberger explain the inspiration behind the fossil name: “When we first saw the fossil brittle star, we immediately knew it was something exciting. It turned out to be a species new to science, and so we had the privilege to name it. With the choice of the name, we wanted to combine our joint passions for science and music, and decided to honour one of our favourite bands. The new fossil belongs to an animal that lived in a dark, toxic environment in the depths of an ancient ocean, dwelling on the remains of their dead predecessors. This is pure black metal! Naming this species after Sakis and Themis Tolis is our way to issue an academic recognition of their talent and hard work. Now they own a small piece of immortality, because scientific species names are for eternity.”

More info on the discovery and its etymology can be found HERE.

Moreover, this is not the only exciting news the band has for this years! ROTTING CHRIST has recently announced their collaboration with the creators of the PS4 game “Mortal Shell,” which featured the band’s epic track “Χ Ξ Σ (666)” in the official trailer! The game is set for worldwide release on August 18. The trailer can be seen at THIS LOCATION.

For more info on the game, visit the official website HERE!

It’s not ROTTING CHRIST‘s first encounter with the gaming industry. Last month, the band was discovered on a poster in the game ‘The Last of Us Part 2’ along with label mates HORRENDOUS!

ROTTING CHRIST’s critically-acclaimed record, ‘The Heretics,’ was released in early 2019 and can be ordered, downloaded, and streamed HERE.

IRON MAIDEN’s Adrian Smith Recalls Parting Ways With Late Drummer Clive Burr

Posted by tarjavirmakari on November 4, 2020

For Canada’s The Metal Voice, Jimmy Kay spoke to Iron Maiden’s  Guitarist Adrian Smith about his memoir, “Monsters Of River & Rock”, which was released on September 3 2020.

Other topics in the interview include, Maiden’s parting of ways with former drummer Clive Burr, Smith’s thoughts on the band’s album covers and his comments on the passing of Eddie Van Halen.

When asked to describe the content of his new book
“It’s primarily a fishing book but it is not overly technical. A lot of fishing stories and what happened around the fishing, traveling to and from fishing. Sometimes the fishing and the music literally cross lines like when Maiden were doing the Powerslave album in the Bahamas at Compass Point studios (I always take my fishing rod wherever I go).  So when I had some time off I was fishing outside the studios in the Caribbean I cast out and I got tangled up with another line and it turned out to be Robert Palmer, addicted to love, that guy. Who came out running from his balcony and told me off, literally like that. The book is full of stories like that. Later on Robert Palmer turns up  in the studio this time when I was recording a solo, this is a whole other story. All these things happen on my travels. When I actually got the physical book  I was surprised there was so much music content in there. I would say it’s 30% broader stuff about me personally and stories on how we wrote certain songs (Iron Maiden), situations we found ourselves in the studio as well as fishing stories and travel of course.

When asked about his favorite Iron Maiden Eddie Album cover artwork

“I don’t know really, the graphic ones I am not too keen on like Killers and all that. But probably something like Brave New World Album it was kind of cool, it incorporated the imagery but it was also a  little more subtle. I like that a bit more artistic rather than graphic horror of the early days.”

When asked about his relationship with former drummer Clive Burr and his feeling when he was let go from the band
“Clive and I used to share a room together, he was a great guy and he was a very funny guy. Let’s say he embraced the rock and roll lifestyle maybe a little too much and that’s why he ended up leaving the band. He was a great drummer and a great guy but it got a bit much for him and so we had to make a change. So that was very sad and I know Bruce had said subsequently and I think he said it at the time, I wish we had more time, to take more time off  so he could have sorted himself out but we just didn’t have the time then. We would finish one tour and go straight into another one. That is the way you had to do it then, tour, tour, tour. The same thing happened with Paul Di’anno, it’s tough and it happened to me. It can get on top of you, a young guy and you have to perform every night and mentally it can be quite tough. You have a lot of down time as well to sit around thinking about stuff in your hotel room. Of course you end up drinking too much and that spirals, this life doesn’t suit everybody.”

When asked about his thoughts on the passing of Eddie Van Halen “It was very sad, very sad. Probably him and Jimi Hendrix certainly in my lifetime were the biggest effects on the electric guitar I loved his playing although when he came out, I had already been playing for 5 or 6 years already. So if I had been starting out when I heard him I would have just copied him like 99% of the other guitarists did. He was fantastic. I would have loved to meet him. I came close a couple of times but never met him. I love his guitar sound. if I’ve got a guitar and an amp and I’m just trying to get a sound I would probably use him as a reference point.”

Smith is well known in the community as a fisherman, and a former cover star of coarse-fishing bible the Angler’s Mail (biggest chub of the season, August 2009). In his first, very personal, riverside memoir, “Monsters Of River & Rock”, Smith takes us with him on his incredible journey, through the highs and lows of life on tour, and on the river-bank, as his fishing gear travels with him across the world.

Charming, funny, and moving in equal measure, “Monsters Of River & Rock” is the ultimate fishing-fantasy armchair read, and is also the story of a rock star in a fast-moving world who seeks peace and tranquillity at the water’s edge — wherever he is.
