W.A.S.P. Co-Founder Chris Holmes Says Decline of Western Civilization Director Owes Him $300 For Pool Scene

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to guitarist and founding member W.A.S.P. Chris Holmes. Holmes talked about his upcoming documentary, his new album and touched upon some W.A.S.P. history.

When asked about his new single ‘Playing With Fire’
“If you listen to the lyrics it’s about Covid. It’s about the government lying to you about the virus, they are saying it’s not very contagious, they are playing with fire. It’s about who do you trust? Who do you blame? Who is going to die? Singing on it is Oliver Tindall, Steve Grimmett (Grim Reaper), Tommy Bolan (Warlock) and Charles-André Lambert (Canadian Touring Band, Phoenix in Flames). “

When asked about his upcoming studio album
“I have to finish the record. I got all the songs written, I just need to record them. That is why I got an Indiegogo page up to help fund the recording. The way I was doing records before is I would play live and take all the money that I made and put it into the recording of the album. That is how I got my last E.P.  done. So from the tour that I missed out this year I was going to take that money and finish the record but since I didn’t get to tour  I haven’t made any money. A lot of people think I made money from W.A.S.P. I never got my royalties. I never got paid one penny (in royalties). And you know who’s fault it is, it’s my fault for not knowing the business (not record company). I’m talking when albums are done and how they split up the publishing, with the publishing contracts that is where the money comes from. I was never told about these meetings. The other members in the band (W,A,S,P,) never wrote , I was the only one (except Blackie Lawless). I was the only one they had to screw over to get all the publishing. In 2006-2007 I went into Sanctuary music and had a lawyer to find out where my publishing was and he discovered I was written in as a session player onto all the records (W.A.S.P. Albums). “

“So I trusted Blackie Lawless about that and when I found out it kind of yanked me wrong. He (Blackie ) was sticking a knife in my back from the first day, the first album and not telling me and being my best friend. If it wasn’t for me he would not be where he is at I guarantee you that. It’s alright it’s been a long time and it’s something I will never get over. I will take that to the grave with me. Yeah Blackie’s got an outrageous voice but he turns his back on his band members. I’m the only guy in the band that ever came back and got screwed twice. I came back for Kill F*** Die and I was promised half publishing on that album and didn’t get crap. That’s why I wrote the song Two Faced Mother F***er on my Shitting Bricks album, it’s about him. And I got a new song on new album it’s called, ‘You can’t handle the truth.” I’m going to write a song about him on every album. Everybody asks me about a W.A.S.P. reunion, sure I would love to play a W.A.S.P. reunion if he (Blackie) pays me my publishing. Screw me once , screw me twice you are not going to screw me a third time. “

Tell us about the musical direction of the new album
“I got the EP of the new album already out. It’s called Under the influence. it’s going to sound like that, straight forward Rock and Roll.”

When asked about the upcoming documentary
“I have a documentary coming out called Mean Man and it’s the story of the last ten years of my life it comes out Jan 19 2021 and It will be out on Cleopatra. It shows what I have been doing , touring and has interviews with people from the past. The guy followed me around with a camera for a very long time. “

When asked if he got paid for  the famous pool scene in Decline of Western Civilization.
“I went to high school with  Penelope Spheeris’ boyfriend years before and I have met her a bunch of times  in Hollywood. She called me up personally and asked me to do a scene. She still owes me 300 bucks, Penelope Spheeris paid 300 bucks but it went to management not me. The deal was she called me personally and she should have paid me personally, so she still owes me 300 bucks. She called me up wanting to do another interview for the box set that is coming out. I told her if you want to pay me my 300 bucks I’ll think about it.”

DRACONIAN Unveil Official Music Video For New Single “Sleepwalkers”

With today’s release of their fifth single, “Sleepwalkers”, legendary Swedish doom/gothic metal masters DRACONIAN mark the apex cut from their upcoming studio album, Under A Godless Veil, out this Friday October 30, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Along with an atmospheric conceptualized music video that epitomizes the essence of the five-piece in the most beautiful manner, Sweden’s  DRACONIAN lure the sleepwalkers and insomniacs of this world into their fragile soundscapes: Made of atmospheric gothic doom, contrasting darkness and light, heaviness and weightlessness as well as soft intermezzos with smashing screams, “Sleepwalkers” embodies another highlight of the breathtaking, seventh full-length.

To be released exactly five years after DRACONIAN’s latest album, Sovran, Under A Godless Veil not only demonstrates another masterpiece that proves the unit to rightly be on top of the genre, but is a manifest of their productive partnership with Napalm Records as well. This longtime collaboration started with the first studio album, Where Lovers Mourn (2003), and has now reached its provisional pinnacle with the seventh epos and second with the talented Heike Langhans on vocal duties.

Singer Heike Langhans comments on “Sleepwalkers”:
“My heartsong of the album. Like a graceful requiem to ourselves, “Sleepwalkers” perfectly encapsulates the sentiments of a lost and weary soul. Subtle, yet a rallying cry – fast becoming my favourite DRACONIAN song to date.”

Pre-Order Under A Godless Veil NOW!

Under a Godless Veil delivers a captivating mélange of dreary doom and contrasting vocals. The first notes of the opener will immediately draw the listener into a void of interweaving beauty, coalescing with paralyzing depression that leaves nothing but the desire of total immersion in the whole record. Under a Godless Veil carries the legacy of gothic doom metal à la My Dying Bride into a new decade of the genre.

DRACONIAN states:
“To DRACONIAN, Under a Godless Veil is by far the most diverse album we have created. Inspired by some of the music closest to Johan’s heart; everything from traditional Doom to scaled-down, Gothic rock-inspired pieces and more. Some will perhaps describe the songs as more refined and meditative. Some ambient elements have been added to the mix without overshadowing the traditional characteristics that are DRACONIAN.
Resonating with the compositions, Anders’s lyrical direction is ambiguous and a progression of the first two-three albums, yet more subtle while embracing the Gnostic philosophy more directly. One could say Under a Godless Veil is an act of contemplation; About living and dying and remembering who we are in a strange, abrasive world far from home.“

Under A Godless Veil tracklist:
1. Sorrow of Sophia
2. The Sacrificial Flame
3. Lustrous Heart
4. Sleepwalkers
5. Moon Over Sabaoth
6. Burial Fields
7. The Sethian
8. Claw Marks On The Throne
9. Night Visitor
10. Ascend Into Darkness

CVLT OV THE SVN Sign Worldwide Record Deal With Napalm Records

Finnish occult murder pop inventors CVLT OV THE SVN have inked a worldwide record deal with Napalm Records.

While rock music seems to have lost its danger and mystique in a lot of ways, CVLT OV THE SVN are the force that embodies just that. Eeriness, danger and angst with a pinch of romanticism and seduction and a load of morbid horror theatrics – all wrapped in a melancholic and catchy, yet very rock, and at times even heavy, sound, drawing its influences from all sorts of artists and genres.

Commented the mysterious creative visionary behind the band: “For me the inspiration is darkness itself, as I am able to understand it. When I write songs, I want to push people’s boundaries, so I want to come up with ideas that make you go, ‘What the f**k?!’. Napalm Records is obviously one of the legends. It is an honor to be part of the lineage, part of this family”.

The band is currently working on their first full-length album – more to be announced soon.

Metal Shock Finland’s Exclusive Premiere: IVORY MOON – New Single And Video ‘Man With A Face’ + Interview

After releasing their new album a few weeks ago, Italian Symphonic Metallers IVORY MOON, have teamed up with Metal Shock Finland to premiere exclusively their new single and video for the song ‘Man With A Face’, taken from the band’s new album ‘Lunar Gateway’, released on October 2nd, via Volcano Records & Promotion.

‘Man With A Face’ is a melodic and powerful song, accompanied by an intense and delicate video, illustrated and masterfully created by Sergio Giardo, designer of Nathan Never. The video tells a story of a hyperuranic journey, between planets and oneiric visions, which ends in an unexpected way.

Watch and enjoy ‘Man With A Face’ here:

To celebrate the video premiering Metal Shock Finland‘s Tarja Virmakari had a pleasure to interview the the band, please read below:

  1. Hello IVORY MOON and welcome to Metal Shock Finland. Today we’ve a pleasure to premiere your stunning new single and video ‘Man With A Face’, please tell us the story behind it?

Hi Metal Shock Finland and hello to all your readers too! The new video was a beautiful unexpected gift from our graphic designer, Sergio Giardo, a fantastic artist, illustrator and cartoonist of the comic Nathan Never for the comic book publisher Bonelli Editore; The song is about how in the world people have and forced to wear many faces. Therefore it is always difficult to be yourself and not feel judged for what you are.

  1. What are your musical influences, besides symphonic metal?

Our musical tastes range from extreme metal to 70s progressive rock, from Metallica to Yes, Queen, Megadeth, Slayer, Dream Theater and each member of the band has a different musical background.

  1. Please introduce us the band members and their roles when writing music and choosing song topics.

Fabrizio zucchini is the founding member of the band and rhythm guitar. He is the composer of almost all the songs. Andrea Campisano is the solo guitarist and arranger of the songs. Fabrizio Sclano is the band’s bassist and historical member of the band. Fabio Bonuglia is the keyboardist and composer, together with Andrea, of the atmospheres of the new album. Patrizio Izzo is the male voice and singer who has been active in the field for a long time. Loretta Venditti is the female voice and composer of some of the album’s lyrics. Emiliano Cantiano is the drummer and is another well known member of the metal scene. Mainly, as anticipated, the songs were born from a collaboration between Fabrizio Z. And Andrea with the contribution of the other members.

  1. Your new album “Lunar Gateway” came out on October 2nd, via Volcano Records & Promotion. How it’s been welcomed by Symphonic Metal lovers?

We had good feedback from old fans and new ones, positive reviews from the press. We can be satisfied with how the promotion and listening of the new album is going.

  1. We’re living now quite difficult times, due to Covid-19 pandemic. Now that touring and playing live seem to be nearly impossible, how will you promote your new album?

We would have liked to do some dates in the national territory starting from December but with the current situation we have to adapt to the new provisions and we hope to be able to return live as soon as possible, and in the meantime we are preparing to be ready!

  1. What are your highlights, so far?

The songs: Based on the feedback from the critics we can say that the songs have all had a good response as we hoped.
The line-up: having changed almost completely, has a lot to give in view of the live shows and can guarantee continuity to the project

  1. Now the word is yours, what is your message to our readers, your fans and music business?

Thanks for the support from our old and new fans! Listen to all the music possible, go to concerts to be able to support and keep the scene alive! Support those who, like us, have the same passion as you! Stay metal!

IVORY MOON was born in the summer of 2000, in Italy, and May 2002 saw the first Ivory Moon promo cd being released. In early 2004, the debut album, “On The Edge of Time” was recorded and released by Battle Hymns Records. In late 2005, the line-up underwent some changes, and the band started to work on new songs and ideas for the next album. During 2006, Ivory Moon took residence at Temple of Noise Studios in Rome, to record “Human Nature”. The album was tracked, mixed and mastered by Christian Ice and released by Ulterium Records. “Dark Time” was released in 2012 by Spider rock promotion and was followed by a promotion tour with Freedom Call. The New album ‘Lunar Gateaway’, released on October 2nd 2020, via Volcano Records and Promotion, was mixed and mastered in Temple of Noise studios, with a renewed line-up made up of old and new friends: Patrizio Izzo and Loretta Venditti voices, Andrea Campisano and Fabrizio Zucchini guitars, Fabrizio Sclano bass, Fabio Bonuglia Keyboards and Emiliano Cantiano drums. ‘Lunar Gateaway’ will keep true to the style of the previous records but with a much more modern sound. SACRED REICH Launch Video For “Something to Believe”

Last year, SACRED REICH released their first record in twenty-three years: Awakening. Now, the band has launched a new video for the album track, “Something to Believe”, which can be viewed here:

Sacred Reich comments: “With the uncertainty that we are all experiencing, we think it’s time for Something To Believe.”

Awakening showcases everything a fan would expect and hope for from the Phoenix, Arizona unit: a timeless collection comprised of blistering thrash, crushing grooves, meticulous solos, and socially conscious lyrics. The return of Dave McClain, who manned the drum throne from 1991 to 1997, and the addition of twenty-two-year old guitarist Joey Radziwill, alongside original members guitarist Wiley Arnett and vocalist/bassist Phil Rind, are integral facets of the record. Awakening was produced by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Cavalera Conspiracy), engineered by John Aquilino, and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Halford, Armored Saint).
