Bay Area thrash giants DEATH ANGEL recently released a new EP titled “Under Pressure,” featuring their stunning take on rock legends  QUEEN & DAVID BOWIE’s iconic song of the same name. The EP also includes the new original song, “Faded Remains,” and two newly recorded acoustic versions of “Revelation Song” and “A Room With A View.” In a new trailer released today, guitarist Rob Cavestany and vocalist Mark Osegueda discuss their stripped down rendition of the fan favorite track “A Room With A View.“

STREAM “A ROOM WITH A VIEW” (ACOUSTIC):

Guitarist Rob Cavestany comments on the song:

“I’m pleased to bring “A Room With A View” back from the past as one of the tracks on our new “all acoustic” EP.  We rarely play it live these days, despite being one of our most popular and requested songs.  30 years after it was initially released on our 3rd album “Act III”,  it felt natural to play during these isolated times, staring out of my studio window, pondering the fate of humanity.  I hope both our old school and new fans will enjoy this stripped down version.”

ASPHYX Announce New Studio Album “Necroceros”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 28, 2020

The legendary Dutch Death Doom Elite ASPHYX finally return with their new, 10th full studio album release. Entitled “Necroceros”, the new longplayer was recorded at Tom Meier’s Tom Meier Studio and at Paul Baayens’ The Mörserstudio and then finally mixed and mastered by Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann at Greenman Studios. “Necroceros”, which once again features front cover artwork by Axel Hermann (to be seen above!), will be available worldwide on January 22nd, 2021 via Century Media Records.

ASPHYX frontman Martin van Drunen comments about “Necroceros” as follows:

“The first recordings for “Necroceros” started somewhere in November 2019. Mainly just rough ideas. We hired Tom’s studio for a couple of jam-sessions so we could record as soon as we thought something had potential. We finished about 6/7 songs, but after a few listenings we decided there had still quite some work to be done.

After the 3 previous albums and this one being ASPHYX’s 10th official full studio record we were very well aware that the standard had to be incredibly high. Our advantage was that for the first time we had a steady line-up. Since “Incoming Death” we were damned good “worked in” together, one “felt” what the other wanted or where he was music-wise going. With Paul having tons of riffs on the shelves, the earlier takes and the unexpected rapidly spreading Covid-19 outbreak and thus all our gigs being canceled one after the other, we booked Tom once more for a bunch of jam-recordings. Which turned out marvelously…

It took 2 weekends to finally arrange all songs and tape the drum-tracks. Going completely berserk while playing and being totally satisfied with the variety, rawness, brutality and dynamics of each particular track, we were 100% certain that we were heading in the right direction.

Long before all the above was happening, I already had introduced “Necroceros” as a working title. It came out spontaneously, sounded powerful and since we used the word “Death” in every release-title, so did “Necro”. The idea was a sci-fi fantasy entity on an eternal course, existing only to devour planets, turning universes into meaningless voids. And while the boys were laying guitars and bass over the drums I searched and wrote the themes and lyrics for every single track. And there we were…

To mix with Seeb was a shot in the dark, but he had told me one of his wishes was to ever be able to mix a Death Metal album for a band like ASPHYX. And since we wanted a fresh input, we gave him a chance by letting Seeb do a test and it fused simply excellent.

As always, we passed the working title on to Axel Hermann to skizz about and let him throw his morbid imagination over it with detailed bits and pieces. And once more he didn’t let us down with another brilliant masterpiece.

And here we are. Something old, something new, something krushing, something sparkling, something alcoholic, something genius, but all very, very ASPHYX!”

A first single and video clip for the upcoming album will be launched together with more details about “Necroceros” at the start of the album’s pre-order campaign on November 6th. 2020. Look out…

ASPHYX’s previous and much acclaimed studio album “Incoming Death” was released in September 2016 and entered the official sales charts in various European countries as follows: Germany: # 30, Switzerland: # 67 and Belgium (Wallonia): # 78.

In the beginning of June, Norwegian hard rock icons VREID streamed a unique live performance that took place against the breathtaking backdrop of the mountains in their hometown of Sogndal, Norway. VREID played a classic set from their entire Sognametal history, including songs that have never been played live before as well as several WINDIR tracks. Vegard, the brother of late WINDIR vocalist Valfar, and former MISTUR vocalist Odne made a guest appearance during the concert. The live stream was an immense success with over 130,000 people viewers across the globe! Now, the band has released their entire ‘In the Mountains of Sognametal’ concert via Youtube. Watch the ‘In the Mountains of Sognametal’ concert HERE.

VREID songwriter and bass guitarist Jarle Hváll Kvåle comments: “It was such a unique experience. It was a moment where we embraced our entire legacy, and I am so proud of how it came together. It was organized with a true Sognametal spirit, in a strong DIY manner with help from our closest friends and family. The response to the stream was overwhelming and we hope that when this pandemic is over, we can invite the audience to watch a special concert in the same surroundings. That would be mind blowing.

“Launching the entire concert is also a kickstart to what is going to be the most intense and creative year in our lives. We are progressing with our new album and what an album it will be. Lets just say that we have been possessed with working on this record and can’t wait to release it in 2021. In conjunction with the album, we are also doing something completely new, a project that will give the music a new dimension.

“Furthermore, in a few weeks  we have absolutely wild news for all of you that enjoy the Sognametal legacy. But first, we have opened the gates to our beloved mountain farm and made the ‘Into the Mountain’s of Sognametal’ concert available for all of you. Enjoy the show, spread it wherever you can and keep following us for some intense months to come. The march continues!”

In addition to the video, VREID reopened the concert scene in Oslo (NO) on August 15, 2020! The historic performance took place at the legendary Rockefeller venue and was the first show at the venue since the Covid-19 closure. The show sold out immediately.

VREID has also launched their very own signature beer, which has been crafted by the band’s guitarist Stian “Strom” Bakketeig and Balder Brewery.

Moreover, the band has finished material for the follow up to 2018’s ‘Lifehunger!’ The new record will be released via Season of Mist during the first half of 2021. The band is now in the studio and reports that the spirit in the band is stronger and darker than ever before. The Nordic flame burns stronger year by year!

PLANTS Release New Single ‘Friend’ + Announce New EP

Sydney, Australia punk rockers PLANTS show off yet another side to their music with their new single Friend, which is out now on all digital platforms via Riot Records. The upbeat tune sits somewhere between ska and punk and even has a few disco-influenced beats in the bridge.

Stream/buy Friend HERE

Bassist Nathan Briggs vocals take centre stage – rough and booming contrasted with the backup harmonies. Friend tells a classic Aussie tale – of a mate who’s always late and never returns the favour for a lift home – and yet you still keep around anyway.

The band has also announced their new EP, Vacuumed Half to Deafwhich is to be released on February 12th 2021.

Pre-order/pre-save Vacuumed Half to Deaf HERE

The second EP from PLANTS further diversifies the band’s sound. The title – Vacuumed Half to Deaf – stemmed from a funny incident in which a cleaning lady began to vacuum the studio live room whilst the band was still tracking. Putting the concept to artist and friend Jaben Betz (Pineapple Stickers Art), the stunning artwork was brought to life and the idea of the EP solidified.

Vacuumed Half to Deaf was recorded in their typical style – the whole band live in the room with no click track, and additional guitars and vocal layers added in post. From the fuzzy stoner rock of Stoned At Breakfast, to upstroking ska-punk tune Friend, or the classic Aussie punk-rock vibes on Say It To My Face – this band is not afraid to show their variety of influences. Lyrically, the bands’ laid-back Aussie humour seeps through in almost every track.

PLANTS exploded onto the Sydney live music circuit with a bunch of energetic shows in their first year. A versatile blend of catchy punk rock infused with straight-up Aussie humour has them steadily growing their local audience.

Quickly establishing themselves as mainstays in the rock venues of Sydney and Wollongong, the band has also completed several short tours as far as Melbourne and the Central Coast. As restrictions relax throughout 2020, look for the boys to make their way further afield for shows throughout this great southern land.

The debut EP Songs About Mostly Pubs and Drugs Vol. 2 was tracked at The Pet Food Factory (Jay, Frenzal Rhomb), and released on 1 September 2019.

The accompanying video clip for Burger Brain is the perfect entry point for any new sprouts to the world of PLANTS. The boys have no plans to slow down though, with two more EPs due out in quick succession. Get to a show, grab a beer and get sweaty in the mosh before this band takes off!

Like, ‘OK, I’m in. That’s what I want to be’.”

These ten original tracks were co-written by Joe anda cast of homegrown notables including former Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden, ex-Cream lyricist Pete Brown and national-treasure piano man Jools Holland. “Writing this record in London has done its job,” reflects Bonamassa. “It really does sound inherently British. Bernie and I, we finish each other’s sentences. We’re cut from the same cloth.” Bonamassa’s long-standing producer Kevin Shirley and regular touring band flew in for the recording sessions, which included Anton Fig (drums), Michael Rhodes (bass) and Reese Wynans (keys).
