Tightwad is the latest single from Gilby Clarke, and the follow up to his recent singles The Gospel Truth and Rock n’ Roll Is Getting Louder. It was written around a guitar riff he wrote while trying out a new fuzz pedal. Lyrically, it was inspired by deceit, treachery and the creative extremes people will go through to get ahead. Tightwad features Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx on bass and Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction) on Drums.
“This song was written around a guitar riff I discovered while trying out a new fuzz pedal. Lyrically I was inspired by deceit, treachery and the creative extremes people will go through to get ahead. I tried to get my message through with humor, but if it hits to close to home, maybe we all should take a closer look at ourselves & make improvements.
I was lucky to have some wonderful musician friends contribute to the recording of this track, Nikki Sixx & Stephen Perkins. Stephen, as always, came through with a beat that drives the song and Nikki found a cool bass groove that accentuates the feel I was looking for. I tried to get my message through with humor, but sometimes the truth hurts.” – Gilby Clarke

Rochester, NY’s most beloved death metal trio, UNDEATH, have today released their debut full length album, Lesions Of A Different Kind – available to purchase here. Lesions Of A Different Kind is the sound of three lifetimes of subterranean sickness and metal worship coalescing in a severe brain-bludgeoning.
The band have also released a new video for the track Entranced By The Pendulum – premiering now via Brooklyn Vegan. Speaking on the video, the band said: “We drove over to Columbus, Ohio from Rochester to shoot this video with Josh Nunn, who we found out about through the killer video he shot for Incantation’s ‘Fury’s Manifesto’. We hit him up on a whim not really expecting him to respond, but thankfully he hit us right back to say he was down and we started making plans pretty much immediately. The whole production was nuts, with fake blood everywhere and a giant swinging pendulum Josh and his team had rigged from the ceiling. Hope y’all enjoy watching this as much as we enjoyed filming it!”
Of the album release, the band comment: “We’re so stoked that Lesions Of A Different Kind is finally out in the world for everyone to hear. We put so much time, sweat and care into making sure this thing is nothing short of a badass, skull crushing, death metal record from top to bottom and we strongly believe that the final product reflects that and then some. Thank you so much to the fine folks at Prosthetic and Maggot Stomp for believing in us and helping make this album a reality, as well as to all of the fans and fantastic new death metal bands who keep us motivated and inspired every day.”
In regards playing live, they add: “Hopefully things return some sort of relative normalcy sooner rather than later and we can come to your city and play these songs live for you, but in the meantime…turn this shit on, crank the volume up and bang your fucking heads! Cheers!”
On the heels of their politically-charged debut EP, thrash/hardcore band WAR ORPHAN, featuring guitarist Richie Cipriano (ex-SICK OF IT ALL, REACH), drummer Dante Renzi (REACH) and vocalist David Bason (BARFBAG), has released released a brand new single titled “Anthem” with Stay Gold Records. The track was first revealed at MetalInjection.net and can now be streamed below.
“This is a friendship song about a bunch of fellas who have been friends for decades. We stand by each other through these strange times of party-specific news networks, propaganda pundits, a fear laden yet heavily weaponized public, those aiming to profit from the fear, the quack doctors, the pushers, the evangelists, the abusive priests and their protectors, and those seeking to dismantle all institutions in their quest for power. We make music, what we do is shine a light on it and comment. Watch out though, our drummer knows Jiu Jitsu.”
WAR ORPHAN made their debut only a few short weeks ago with the seething thrash punk EP Closer To Death Than Life. Their initial offering is a fearless protest record that delivers a much needed shot of angst into the hardcore scene and swift throat-punch to rightwing extremists and the current presidential administration. Bason summons the furious rage that people across the country have felt over the last few years, channeling it into songs about systematic racism (“Autonomous Zone”) and a deceitful president (“Prop Up The Polls”) among other topics that are more relevant and important now than ever before.
WAR ORPHAN came about when longtime friends Dante, Richie and David moved from recording songs trying make each other laugh to taking it seriously. Singer David Bason (Barfbag) lives in LA. Missing his New York friends, he would leave guitar player Richie Cirpiano (Ex Sick of It All, Reach) voicemails about how he thinks heavy metal is silly. Richie and Dante (Reach, Ouijipig) would track record metal songs to them and send them back. Thus, was born Bloodbath and Beyond, an inside joke to kill time and crack each other up.
Richie called and said he thought he had a song they should take seriously. Bason got excited and the EP was tracked, mixed and mastered in a matter of weeks. WAR ORPHAN came about naturally and the results show.
Virginia Beach alternative metal band MAGG DYLAN have revealed a new music video for their latest single “You Oughta Know”, a stunning rendition of the Grammy-winning 90’s rock hit originally performed by Alanis Morissette. The video was directed by Eric Di Carlo and features real women (not actresses) liberating themselves from their experience of previous marriages gone bad.
“We chose this song because it is so empowering, and it gives permission to not be okay during a break-up” says lead singer Suzanne Di Iulio. “The concept of the video came about at my best friend’s birthday party. She also went through a divorce and the idea of burning her wedding dress came up in conversation. We decided it would be amazing to have a bunch of real women instead of actresses burn their wedding dresses as well, so I asked some of my friends, and they asked some of their friends, and within a few days we actually had enough volunteers who were also willing to burn their wedding dresses for the shoot! It was a very emotional shoot for all of us, especially for my best friend Jennifer who burst out into tears when she threw her veil and dress into the fire.”
Bassist Les Mosely adds “there is a lot of real, genuine emotion going on in this video. It was truly an honor that the women who participated in the video would immortalize such a very personal and emotional experience in our music video. Watching their emotional liberation from such a dark experience of their past was inspiring to say the least. Also, I never knew just how afraid of fire Suzanne is, but when it came time to face the burning barrel, she did it head-on without a glimmer of fear… I am proud of her!”

The provocative, imperious and engaging Swedish-based metal group SOEN will unveil their fifth album, ‘Imperial’, via Silver Lining Music on January 29th 2021. Founder members Joel Ekelöf (vocals) and Martin Lopez (drums), along with Lars Enok Åhlund (keyboards and guitar), Oleksii “Zlatoyar” Kobel (bass) and Cody Ford (lead guitar) have never shied away from challenging our perceptions of life and humanity, and IMPERIAL continues SOEN’s unique journey through the psyche of our species and the conundrum of our times. Eight crisp, sharp, and supremely constructed songs spanning frustration, reflection and hope, IMPERIAL is the most fierce and dynamic release of SOEN’s journey, one which continues to be deeply therapeutic for both the group’s dedicated followers and the band themselves.
Martin Lopez explains:
“In my life I try to be as real as possible, but I think that the music, and nature, of SOEN are the only place that I really, really feel I can be myself. When you’re home, doing music, writing lyrics, that is where you really get to express yourself without any judgement and with total freedom.”
Produced by Iñaki Marconi and the band, IMPERIAL was mixed and mastered by Kane Churko, who has worked with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Bob Dylan, giving songs such as ‘Illusion’, ‘Modesty’ and the epic closer ‘Fortune’ a dimension and richness which will reach yet more ears and minds. The sheer power and poetry of SOEN’s dynamics are more completely executed and honed than ever before, something which is perversely a product of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Martin Lopez continues:
“It has obviously been a crazy, terrible thing for everyone, and for us as a band it has been really frustrating not being able to play shows, but also it has given us a clear window of opportunity to realise this album completely. We were able to spend 12 hours a day for many months bringing IMPERIAL to the place we truly wanted, mainly working on the groove and flow of the album.”
Lead single ‘Antagonist’ storms through the gates with a massive heavy riff of intent, followed by an epic blend of strength, beauty and defiance of all the world’s darkest powermongers, captured in the lyrics ‘Dependency dampens the wild / Inequity weighs down the motion of progress / Life isn’t just to survive.’

Furthers Martin Lopez:
“We will always be a band that has the old will to fight for freedom and all the important things in life, the people, the underdog, you have to take on the big question marks such as what the fuck are we doing with our lives and where’s the empathy. Why do we keep on testing and crushing ourselves as a species?”
IMPERIAL is an album which will engage the listener immediately and sustain long after this crazy time has passed, its rich details destined to make it a classic metal album of this era.
Joel Ekelöf comments:
“As we continue, we find inspiration in the sad fact that the world is getting more and more polarized, that it’s more complex and it’s not consensus or people getting along. We continue to try and understand why and how that will affect us all.”
SOEN are an undeniable cypher for all which swirls around us, something which will continue to set them apart from their peers for years to come, and IMPERIAL is the latest potent, unmissable commentary from their journey. Excited to bring the new material on the road, SOEN also announce the first leg of their IMPERIAL European Tour 2021, which will kick-off in the Spring in Oslo, Norway.
