MOONSPELL Get Ungodly With Brand New Video For “Common Prayers”

February 26, 2021 will see Portuguese dark metal titans MOONSPELL release their hotly anticipated 13th studio album, entitled Hermitage, via Napalm Records.

MOONSPELL is not only approaching their 30th band anniversary more ambitiously and stronger than ever, but with their forthcoming record, they created a wonderfully intuitive, yet epic masterpiece and a testament to what they’ve always loved the most: Honest, emotional metal that binds us even in these dark times.

Hermitage was recorded, mixed and mastered this past summer by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Primordial, Ghost, Sólstafir & many more) at the Orgone Studios in the UK. Building upon the sensitive facets of the album, one can expect an entertaining and revolutionary journey through the darkest days of human existence. Beautifully crafted songs such as “The Greater Good“ show us the modernity of the wolves in 2021, while tracks alike “Common Prayers“ embrace the MOONSPELL tradition of writing a gothic metal song like no other band can. The ethereal and melodic sounds of MOONSPELL, while never straying away from their metal roots, make Hermitage most likely one of the deepest, surprising and most epic albums  MOONSPELL  has ever written.

Following upon their just recently unleashed album opening track, “The Greater Good“, today MOONSPELL is sharing their second single and a brand new video for “Common Prayers“!

Directed by Guilherme Henriques and featuring actress, singer and performer Aurora Pinho, this clip was shot 90 meters below the surface at the amazing caves of Grutas de Mira d’Aire, one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders. With a classy gothic and catchy feel, MOONSPELL flexes their best songwriting skills. The lyrical content is “perverse, almost religious” and deals with the 18th century pregnancy surge amidst Portuguese nuns. Twenty century demolitions and excavations unearthed the bones of hundreds of children, revealing the sad faith of Jesus’ sons and daughters.

Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro states: “Political? Religious? Who the fuck cares, really? Music is, for Moonspell, about self-expression, and we are old enough to pick our battles. ‘Common Prayers’ is the kind of song we love to write, sensual, different, with a to-die-for chorus. Hermitage is coming your way, you can run, but you cannot hide. Staying safe is staying smart. Say a prayer!”

With “Common Prayers” MOONSPELL successfully builds upon their previous dark works. Watch their brand new music video right here:

“Hermitage is about turning our backs to the conventions of modernity. We are currently convincing ourselves that it’s all about us, that we (humanity) are everything. That the world revolves around us.“ Ribeiro continues. “However, ipsi facto, we are nothing and nothing revolves around us. Moonspell’s goal, on these last turns around the Sun, are to write the best music we possibly can. To tell you a few stories with our lyrics, to be close to you in these times of distancing. We wish not to tease you or to influence you or to sell you our fish. We want to sit down with you at your table and feast together upon our notes and words. Like if we were close friends, like back in the time where music matters the most. In your bedroom listening to music, without having to post our smart remarks about it, inviting the hate in.
Hermitage is an open-hearted invitation to simplicity. To be humble. To be thankful. To serve you solace. Provide you comfort, entertainment. We sincerely hope this call reaches you. That you kindly accept what we offer. That you take our music with you to the place you must feel as yours. To your secret place, to your hermitage. Blessed be.”

Hermitage will be out on February 26, 2021 via Napalm Records, and will be available in several highly limited and collectible Deluxe Editions, Mediabook, Cassette, all of them including the Candlemass Cover “Darkness in Paradise”, but also as Jewelcase and Digital formats. VENOM PRISON Sign With Century Media Records

Garnering press-raves including: “VENOM PRISON have captured the hearts and minds of many fans of extreme music since bursting onto the scene in 2015.” (Metal Hammer UK), “Nothing shy of absolutely destructive in the best way.” (Revolver). And placing #4 on Kerrang!’s list of “The 50 Greatest Death Metal Bands Right Now”, UK extremists VENOM PRISON are taking their next step with their new label home, Century Media.

Commenting on the signing, VENOM PRISON, who are busily writing their third full-length LP say: “We are proud to announce that VENOM PRISON has signed with Century Media Records for a worldwide deal. This deal marks the beginning of a new chapter for VENOM PRISON and we are honoured to call Century Media our home, which we look forward sharing with some of the most iconic artists in heavy metal, as well many of our talented friends.”

VENOM PRISON has carved an uncompromising space for themselves over the course of two full-length albums, “Animus” (2016) and “Samsara” (2019) with 2020’s “Primeval” reinvigorating the band’s earlier EP’s with new recordings and offering a preview of the shape of brutality to come with two newly written tracks. What began as an explosive collaboration between Russian-born vocalist Larissa Stupar and guitarist Ash Gray (with the lineup rounded out by guitarist Ben Thomas, bassist Mike Jefferies and drummer Joe Bills) has exploded into a force to be reckoned with as vitriolic and outspoken lyrically as they are musically.

“VENOM PRISON is an important band in every sense of the word,” says Century Media A&R Mike Gitter.  “They are a wakeup call with songs that are not just musically brutal, but dig into issues that challenge our day-to-day existence. Gender issues. Cultural and political oppression. They’re relevant in ways that so many bands fall short of. VENOM PRISON is the band we need now more than ever.”

Philipp Schulte, Director Century Media Records, comments: “With VENOM PRISON one of the finest British bands of recent years joins the ranks of Century Media Records. VENOM PRISON’s vision marks an overdue turning point in the sort of musical and lyrical complacency that has long plagued the worldwide metal scene. This is not your older brother’s feel-good metal. This is extreme music with a compelling message, and it perfectly fits to what Century Media as a label will always stand for: Establishing bands and artists who are willing to make a difference and take a stand. VENOM PRISON is a trailblazing band for what metal can and will be in the upcoming decade. Welcome to Century Media Records!”

It’s not surprising that VENOM PRISON’s wage of intensities has reverberated with a wide array of fans and fellow musicians. They’ve toured with the likes of Trivium, made a scorched earth North American debut on the Summer Slaughter tour and were hand-picked by Parkway Drive to open their Covid-cancelled 2020 European tour. For the five band members, this is only the beginning.  “We have been writing new material relentlessly for the last 12 months,” says VENOM PRISON. “We’re pleased to finally be back in the studio.”

VENOM PRISON have pushed back their headlining tour with support coming from Creeping Death and Leeched to October 2021

2.    Tuonela
3.    Leviathan
4.    Die Wellen der Zeit
5.    Aži Dahāka

THERION have always been a band that have challenged themselves to explore new paths, while remaining true to their musical core values. For their 17th studio album, Leviathan, mastermind Christofer Johnsson and his collaborator ThomasVikström have created something that has been previously unthinkable to the guitarist and the singer. “We have done the only thing that was left of all the different angles to explore“, explains Christofer. “We have decided to give the people what they kept asking for. Leviathan is the first album that we have deliberately packed with THERION hit songs.”

When THERION came into being in 1988 by changing name from the already existing band BLITZKRIEG, which was founded a year earlier, Christofer had rather taken inspiration from SLAYER‘s Reign In Blood among other classic metal albums. At the beginning, the Swedes were firmly rooted in death metal, a genre which they helped to define, as witnessed by their debut album Of Darkness…. (1991). Yet even back then, there were hints of “something else” lurking beneath the rough surface.

The use of female vocals is another core ingredient of THERION today, which developed gradually. CELTIC FROST had basically introduced the female element to extreme metal on To Mega Therion in 1985. THERION began with both a female and male vocalist emulating a church like choir already in their sophomore full-length Beyond Sanctorum (1992). With Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas (1993) and Lepaca Kliffoth (1995), Christofer continued to developed his trademark sound by gradually drifting towards cleaner vocals and more keyboards.  With Theli, the Swedes had firmly established a reputation of pushing the boundaries of metal in the 90s – among such acts as their compatriots TIAMAT, THE GATHERING, and MOONSPELL that were often referred to as “gothic metal” at the time.

THERION continued to break new ground leaving inspiration for others to follow in their wake: On A’arab Zaraq – Lucid Dreaming (1997), Christofer further explored the use of Near Eastern music in metal which he had already begun in 1992, while Secret Of The Runes (2001) dared to have Swedish lyrics in some songs. While critics were left confused and fans challenged, THERION were often ahead of their times and vindicated in hindsight. Even the band’s 25th anniversary excursion Les Fleurs Du Mal has by now overcome the initial shock the album caused and is only beaten in terms of streaming by the classic Vovin (1998).

When Christofer faced the question of where to go next after the dramatic Beloved Antichrist (2018) had finally fulfilled his musical mission, his answer is Leviathan named after a giant sea monster from Judeo-Christian myth that has roots in Babylonic lore: THERION have created a giant hit album – and for the first time in the history of the Swedes, their fans are not asked to explore something new, but simply to lean back and enjoy the best from their band!

WITHERFALL Release “Another Face” Lyric Video

Treat yourself to another dose of Dark Melodic Metal with a brand new song and lyric video from L.A.’s finest WITHERFALL by checking out “Another Face”:

The band comments: “As with most WITHERFALL songs ‘Another Face’ was written with just an acoustic guitar, pen & paper and copious amounts of red wine. However, once in the studio the track really came to life. Some of the best memories from the recording sessions were working out the outro of the song after the solo. Between guitar and vocal harmonies and subtle harmonic shifts the ending is such a highlight of the record. Jon Schaffer and Jim Morris really brought a lot of energy to these sessions. For everyone involved it was a highly creative time. This track is a great testament to what can happen when everyone on a production team gets to shine a little light on a song.”

“Another Face” is the third single taken from “Curse Of Autumn”, the upcoming album from WITHERFALL that is scheduled for a worldwide street date on March 5th, 2021 with the US vinyl being available April 2nd, 2021.

Apart from the Digital Album the following formats are available, please note that the luxurious Gatefold 2LP is coming with a poster and etching on Side D:

Ltd. CD Digipak
Gatefold black 2LP for all accounts
200x Gatefold Autumn Amber (transp. orange Vinyl) 2LP via CM Distro Wholesale and Onlineshop
200x Gatefold Ghost White (creamy white Vinyl) 2LP via EMP and Nuclear Blast
The US is carrying the following formats:
CD Digipak
Gatefold Fall Forest Green (translucent forest green Vinyl) 2LP for all accounts
200x Gatefold Tempest Frost (coke bottle clear Vinyl) 2LP via Revolver Magazine
200x Gatefold River Orchid Bloom (orchid Vinyl) via the CM US Onlineshop

Click here for multiple options: https://witherfallband.lnk.to/CurseOfAutumn/

Via the band’s official store https://www.witherfall.com/ you can secure:
300x Gatefold Last Scar Blood Red (deep blood red Vinyl) 2LP

What could possibly be a better time of the year to dive headfirst into dark melodic metal? While the shadows of winter are creeping up upon us and the nights get longer it is the perfect time for “Curse Of Autumn” to unfold.

“Curse Of Autumn” was produced by Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards) for Ravencraft Productions, Joseph Michael (vocals, keyboards, also in Sanctuary) and Jake Dreyer (guitar, also in Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards). For the recording and mix they teamed up with Jim Morris (Savatage, Iced Earth, Kamelot, Death) while Tom Morris took over mastering duties.

The album art is once again another hand painted masterpiece by the legendary Kristian Wåhlin, the fourth painting in the WITHERFALL series.

Don’t miss the cinematic video for “As I Lie Awake”: https://youtu.be/KFbrq-n17Gs The clip was directed by Zev Deans (Ghost, Behemoth, Chelsea Wolfe, St. Vincent…).

PRIMAL FEAR Announce New Single ‘I Will Be Gone’ Feat. Tarja Turunen

Posted by tarjavirmakari on December 11, 2020
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: PRIMAL FEAR, Tarja Turunen. Leave a comment

PRIMAL FEAR‘s ferocious new record “Metal Commando” has been an undisputed highlight of 2020. The German power metal band’s 13th full length detonated in the midst of a raging pandemic, leaving no stone unturned in its path. The whole world got stuck in, achieving the 6 piece some of their highest chart positions in their 20+ year career, which included; a top ten in Switzerland (6), Germany (7), Japan (7), Finland (9) and Sweden (9) next to multiple high entries in countries such as Austria, Spain, France and the USA.

PRIMAL FEAR are Germany’s metal band of the hour, again. Right now however, they want to show us something new, a different side to them – after releasing a string of heavy and hard-hitting singles from “Metal Commando”, mastermind Mat Sinner and vocal force Ralf Scheepers have something extraordinary up their sleeves; a 5-track single, built around an exclusive new rendition of their achingly beautiful ballad ‘I Will Be Gone’, re-recorded with none other than Finnish metal diva extraordinaire, Tarja Turunen.

Today, the band kick off the pre-order for the single, which will be available as CD-Digipak, Picture-LP, Shape-Vinyl and Vinyl (different colours) and digitally on April 9th, 2021.

Pre-order ‘I Will Be Gone’ here in the format of your choice: http://nblast.de/PF-IWillBeGone
Pre-Save: http://nblast.de/PrimalFearIWBGpreSave

The tracklist reads as follows:
01. I Will Be Gone (feat. Tarja Turunen)
02. Vote For No Confidence
03. Rising Fear
04. Leave Me Alone
05. Second to None

“There were three famous vocalists on our final wish list,” Mat Sinner comments. “That it was Tarja who got involved in this song is a matter of pure joy for all of us. Working together on the song and video was totally relaxed and professional – a great experience also because Tarja’s and Ralf’s voices go together incredibly well. Now, we can expand the ‘Metal Commando’ saga with a unique chapter. We’re all really proud of this single.”

The Finnish icon can only agree: “I was very happy to receive the invitation to take part in PRIMAL FEAR’s beautiful song ‘I Will Be Gone’. We started our careers nearly at the same time many years ago, and finally got a chance to work together. I love the song and personally it helped me to stay connected and rock again, even if at the studio this time. I really hope that people will like this collaboration and that it will bring them joy especially during these difficult times we are living through at the moment.”

The song, fragile and touching, gets an altogether new and deeply melancholic vibe with Tarja’s unbelievably emotional performance, showcasing a different facet of PRIMAL FEAR. Yet, it’s not the only gift they deliver on this 5-track sensation – just take ‘Vote Of No Confidence’ for example, an all-new, previously unreleased beast of a song. Clocking in at over six minutes, this storming, furious anthem gives a brilliant glimpse of things to come. Previously only available as bonus tracks on the limited “Metal Commando” digipack, three more tracks complete this release; enchanting guitar instrumental ‘Rising Fear’, massive mid-tempo smasher ‘Leave Me Alone’, and heavy metal monument ‘Second To None’, making ‘I Will Be Gone’ so much more than just another off shoot of a successful album.

“Metal Commando” is so much more than just another album by a veteran band. The songs are too strong, the hooks too merciless, the refrains too huge, and their trademark phalanx of three guitars too indomitable for any meek kind of listener response. “We’re simply an awesome team,” Sinner laughs. The “we” he’s talking about are of course himself on bass guitar and vocals, fierce vocalist Ralf Scheepers, guitarists Tom Naumann, Alex Beyrodt and Magnus Karlsson as well as that brand-new whirlwind of a drummer, Michael Ehré.

After six albums “abroad”, “Metal Commando” saw the band return to their first home Nuclear Blast. Where some bands would give in under such pressure, changing labels for PRIMAL FEAR has unleashed a huge amount of sublime heavy metal energy. Heck, we bet this seismic shock was visible on the Richter scale! “We wrote and wrote and realised quite early on that we had a lot of good ideas going”. Good ideas? The songs are bangers as only PRIMAL FEAR anthems can be – a sound that’s long become a trademark just got new, shiny alloys.

New track ‘I Will Be Gone’ showcases PRIMAL FEAR’s mellow, bittersweet side – available on multi coloured vinyl, shaped vinyl, CD digipack or digitally. Let’s all take a deep breath now; soon enough it’ll get loud again on stages around the globe.

DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL Ink Worldwide Deal With Nuclear Blast Records

Every new beginning holds its own magic: With today’s release of their new single ‘Beyond Reach‘, Ambient Post-hardcore outlet, DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL, does not only announce their fourth studio album but also reveal the joyeous news that the band inked a deal with metal heavyweight Nuclear Blast Records. The first result of this collaboration, titled “Loss”, will see light on April, 9th. The album will be available in various formats. Pre-order here: http://nblast.de/DSHS-Loss

With the video for ‘Beyond Reach’, the band showcases not only their charismatic performance skills but also gives a short glimpse on the earth-shattering riffs, huge soundscapes and soaring melodies awaiting you on “Loss”. Check out the video for the late 2020 music sensation here:

Singer Paul Green states:
“Our first single ‘Beyond Reach’ tells a story of the struggle and the impact that losing someone has,
it speaks about the positive impact that individuals can have on us, and how loss can leave you unable to function. Despite the song coming from hard times, the track is positive, uplifting and carries plenty of energy. The message is far from sombre, instead it comes from a place of gratitude for having had that person in our life.”

He continues about the eagerly awaited DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL album:
“We’re incredibly excited to announce the release of our 4th album, ‘Loss’, through Nuclear Blast Records. ‘Loss’ comes from a dark place for us, life was cruel in the years before and during we wrote this record, this was our fuel for the songs. ‘Loss’ is an honest snapshot of that time in our lives, and it is our way of paying respect to those we loved and who are no longer with us. We couldn’t be more proud of these 10 songs and where they have pushed our songwriting, and we hope they truly connect with the listener.
I don’t think any of us imagined when we were writing this album, that we would end up signing to the biggest metal label in the world. It’s given us that added validation that we’ve created something special, and we now have the platform to push it to where it needs to be.The belief that the team at Nuclear Blast has shown in the record is truly humbling, we’re extremely proud to be a part of this great label, and to be on a roster alongside so many bands we love and respect.”

Nathan Barley Phillips, Nuclear Blast A&R, adds:
“When the underground kings of emotionally crushing cinematic post-metal sent me the album of their career, it was an absolute no-brainer. I just knew we had to be involved and that we had to share it with the world. This album is a true journey in every sense of the word; soaring highs that make you want to scream at the top of your lungs, and soul-shattering lows that will bring you close to tears. This is the kind of album you dream about working with. Dreams just became a reality.“

The tracklist reads as follows:
1. Ardour
2. Witness Marks
3. Burdened
4. Tateishi
5. The Narcissist
6. Beyond Reach
7. Signal Fire
8. Acrinomy
9. But Not Forgotten
10. Loss

DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL begin a new chapter in their highly-acclaimed career, signing to metal heavyweights Nuclear Blast Records. 2021 will see the band release their fourth studio album ‘Loss’, their first with the dual vocal attack of Ed Gibbs and Paul Green.
DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL burst onto the UK underground metal and hardcore scene in 2004 growing a cult following from their first record, ‘Darkness Prevails’ EP released through Visible Noise (BRING ME THE HORIZON) in 2005. Their debut album, ‘A Fragile Hope’ saw the band take their position as one of the most respected underground bands in the UK with their visceral and captivating live shows. DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL’s sophomore album, ‘Blessed and Cursed’, elevated their sound and audience to new heights, voted into RockSound Magazine’s top 10 albums of 2010.

With Ed Gibbs departing the band early in the year, 2013 saw the first new material featuring singer Paul Green with single ‘Time’, followed by 2014’s ‘Belong Betray’ EP and 2016’s ‘The Reckoning’. After welcoming Gibbs back to sing on the 2017 ‘A Fragile Hope’ anniversary tour, the band asked Gibbs to continue the dual vocals with Green for the remaining festivals and tours that year, with the line-up then becoming a permanent fixture.

2018 saw the band travel beyond Europe with their first touring in Asia, they also began to put the foundations down on what would become their new record ‘Loss’. Written about the struggles faced in recent years, ‘Loss’treads familiar ground and explores exciting new territories for DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL, including for the first time the dual vocals of Gibbs and Green on record. Recorded, engineered and mixed by guitarist Jonny Renshaw at his UK based Bandit Studios, DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL have poured heart and sincerity into every atom of this their fourth album, with song writing elevated to new levels.
