GHØSTKID’s music is a headlong dive into darkness and aggression. It aligns on new paradigms: baring its teeth while keeping a sense for catchy melodies.

GHØSTKID is the new namesake of Sebastian “Sushi“ Biesler (formerly Eskimo Callboy) and a conspiracy of friends and likeminded allies who have come to a riot of their own: Steve Joakim (drums) from Sweden as well as Danny Güldener (guitar) and Stanislaw Czywil (bass), both of whom played in To The Rats And Wolves.

HARLOTT Launch Video For “Idol Minded”, New Album Out Now

Yesterday, November 13th, HARLOTT released their new album, Detritus of the Final Age, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of Detritus of the Final Age, a video for the single “Idol Minded” can be viewed now here:

More than 30 years after its inception, thrash refuses to die, and with Australia’s Harlott stoking the fires, the genre is in very good hands. Returning with the follow up to 2017′s mighty Extinction, Detritus Of The Final Age sees them continuing to fight the good fight, delivering a collection of serrated riffs, rampant rhythmic battery and bilious lyrics, hitting hard in all the right places. “For the first time ever, I went into this album with a blank slate,” says vocalist/guitarist Andrew Hudson. “No ideas or requirements, just an empty record ready to be filled with whatever took me. Obviously thrash metal is the wheelhouse of what we do, and it came out pretty thrashy, but it was great to be able to set that aside and explore other avenues.” The result is perhaps the band’s most dynamic release, while holding on tight to that signature Harlott sound that has drawn in a legion of fans from around the world.

Helping to realize the new record, the band’s ranks were refreshed with two new members, Glen Trayhern on drums and Leigh Bartley on guitar. “Both bring their own skills and abilities as well as fresh enthusiasm and ideas. Glen is an absolute machine on the kit and lays a rock solid foundation for us to play to, and Leigh is a weapon on the guitar and such a unique lead writer. I couldn’t have had a better ensemble for this release, and the live show is as violent as ever.” Spending longer writing the record than any of its predecessors, for more than a year Hudson worked on it, experimenting with ideas and styles. Determined to make a record that he would want to listen to – and proudly drawing inspiration from the many bands that have shaped the genre ahead of them – it was integral that he was proud of everything included on the record, and he focused on every aspect of the songs. “Whether its lyrics or riffs or breakdowns, I always make sure that every song has at least one bit that makes you go ‘fuck yeeeeah’. I don’t like the idea of thinking a song or line is ‘good enough’, so I try to make sure the elements of the song are strong enough for them to stand alone outside of the ensemble that they are part of.” The result is “thrash metal with a bit of darkness, a bit of sorrow, a bit of melody and a few hooks thrown in for good measure,” something that Harlott fans will recognize while surely drawing in new listeners.

Detritus of the Final Age track-listing
1. As We Breach

3. Bring on the War
4. Detritus of the Final Age
5. Prime Evil

DRAGGED UNDER Release Christmas Song ‘This Holiday’

Seattle punk rockers DRAGGED UNDER released the deluxe version of their debut album ‘The World Is In Your Way’, with two additional bonus tracks, on November 13th via Mascot Records. To celebrate the release, the band has unleashed a Christmas song ‘This Holiday’, watch it below.

Frontman Tony Cappocchi:

“This Holiday is our answer to all the super happy Christmas songs that are forced on us year after year. They’re all so cheery, and bubblegum, and the reality is that the holidays aren’t like that for everyone. A lot of people (especially this year) don’t think of the holidays as a great time. Whether they’ve lost someone, don’t have family or money, or just don’t like being around people pretending to like each other. I had skipped holidays for years while working my dead-end retail job, and I think it made me a little cold to the holidays. Especially when people come to the mall and only think about themselves while screaming at the retail worker because they didn’t have the right toy. We’ve lost the reason for the season.”

Tony Cappocchi [vocals], Ryan Bruce [guitar], Sean Rosario [guitar], Hans Hessburg [bass], and Kalen Anderson [drums] strike an elusive balance between thrashed-up punk, pit-splitting hardcore, technical metal, and hooky alternative.

Tracklisting

  1. The Real You
  2. Hypochondria
  3. Roots
  4. Here For War
  5. Instability
  6. Chelsea
  7. Covered In Sin
  8. Riot
  9. The Hardest Drug
  10. Feel It
  11. Just Like Me

THERION Release First Single For Title Track Of Upcoming Album “Leviathan”

Sweden’s Symphonic Metal pioneers THERION are proud to unleash the first single and title track from their upcoming 17th studio album “Leviathan”, which is set to be released on 22 January 2021 on NUCLEAR BLAST.

Balancing ominous atmosphere and powerful, seducing chants,  “Leviathan” succeeds in virtually conjuring the mythical sea creature the song has borrowed its name from.

You can watch the animated lyric video for “Leviathan” here:

THERION’s new album “Leviathan” can be pre-ordered here: http://nblast.de/Therion-Leviathan

THERION have always been a band that have challenged themselves to explore new paths, while remaining true to their musical core values. For their 17th studio album, “Leviathan”, mastermind Christofer Johnsson and his collaborator Thomas Vikström have created something that has been previously unthinkable to the guitarist and the singer. “We have done the only thing that was left of all the different angles to explore”, explains Christofer.“We have decided to give the people what they kept asking for. ‘Leviathan’ is the first album that we have deliberately packed with THERION hit songs.”

When THERION came into being in 1988 by changing name from the already existing band BLITZKRIEG, which was founded a year earlier, Christofer had rather taken inspiration from SLAYER’s “Reign In Blood” among other classic metal albums. At the beginning, the Swedes were firmly rooted in death metal, a genre which they helped to define, as witnessed by their debut album “Of Darkness….” (1991). Yet even back then, there were hints of “something else” lurking beneath the rough surface.

The use of female vocals is another core ingredient of THERION today, which developed gradually. CELTIC FROST had basically introduced the female element to extreme metal on “To Mega Therion” in 1985. THERION began with both a female and male vocalist emulating a church like choir already in their sophomore full-length ‘Beyond Sanctorum’ (1992). With Symphony “Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas” (1993) and “Lepaca Kliffoth” (1995), Christofer continued to developed his trademark sound by gradually drifting towards cleaner vocals and more keyboards. With “Theli”, the Swedes had firmly established a reputation of pushing the boundaries of metal in the 90s – among such acts as their compatriots TIAMAT, THE GATHERING, and MOONSPELL that were often referred to as “gothic metal” at the time.

THERION continued to break new ground leaving inspiration for others to follow in their wake: On “A’arab Zaraq – Lucid Dreaming” (1997), Christofer further explored the use of Near Eastern music in metal which he had already begun in 1992, while “Secret Of The Runes” (2001) dared to have Swedish lyrics in some songs. While critics were left confused and fans challenged, THERION were often ahead of their times and vindicated in hindsight. Even the band’s 25th anniversary excursion “Les Fleurs Du Mal” has by now overcome the initial shock the album caused and is only beaten in terms of streaming by the classic “Vovin” (1998).

When Christofer faced the question of where to go next after the dramatic “Beloved Antichrist” (2018) had finally fulfilled his musical mission, his answer is “Leviathan” named after a giant sea monster from Judeo-Christian myth that has roots in Babylonic lore: THERION have created a giant hit album – and for the first time in the history of the Swedes, their fans are not asked to explore something new, but simply to lean back and enjoy the best from their band!

Sweden’s very own S.O.R.M just announced to reissue their outstanding debut EP, “Hellraiser”, on December 4th 2020 via Noble Demon. Combining the best elements of contemporary and traditional hard rock and heavy metal, and being known for their high energetic and powerful sound, swinging grooves and fuzzy guitar virtuosity, S.O.R.M’s 2018 debut EP confirmed the band’s place as an act capable of appealing to a wide heavy music audience. Now, this is not just another reissue, “Hellraiser” has also been entirely re-recorded, as vocalist & guitarist, Micke Holm, tells us:

“We have decided to take down our EP „Hellraiser“ from digital services. We think that ‘Hellraiser’ deserves to be released properly! So, we are re-releasing it again but through Noble Demon. Johan has also re-recorded the bass and we also recorded some organ on all the songs. You will see and hear quite a change on ‘Hellraiser’ this time. We also recorded a cover song but you guys need to wait until we release the re-recorded ‘Hellraiser’ EP. Hope to see you all soon“

Furthermore and to celebrate S.O.R.M’s upcoming re-release in glorious style, the band is proud to premiere a brand new video clip for the hook laden track “Gypsy Queen”, streaming right here:

Says the band about the song:
“GYPSY QUEEN is about how you sometimes get lowered in a relationship by a lady who can control you with just her hands, like a Gypsy.“

Tracklist:

1. Gypsy Queen
2. Brick by Brick
3. Hellraiser
4. House of the Rising Sun

“Hellraiser” is slated to be reissued on December 4th with Noble Demon, and on the official landing- page you can NOW already give permission to have the release saved to your library or added to your playlist as soon as it’s out. No need to embark your calender anymore! You will also find videos streaming and links to physical retailers at THIS LOCATION
