JUNIUS to Release New LP “Sotera” on June 26th, First Track ‘Initiatrix’ Out Now

Boston post-metal band, Junius, will release its new LP, ‘Sotera‘, on June 26 via Prosthetic Records. ‘Sotera’ is Junius’ first full-length LP in nearly a decade, following 2017’s Eternal Rituals for the Accretion of Light, a recording that Rolling Stone noted, “takes the band’s alternately soaring and crashing sound to even more diverse places.”

Produced by Junius vocalist/guitarist, Joseph E. Martinez and Tom Syrowski (Blackberry Smoke, Mastodon), ‘Sotera’, in Martinez’s words, “feels like a rebirth for the band” and “is an act of devotion as much as it is a piece of music.” Pre-order/save Junius‘ ‘Sotera’ at this location.

Harmonizing bright transcendence, heightened consciousness, coiled ear-worming, and emotional swell in like degree, ‘Sotera’s’ ambient shoegaze metal is expansive and deep, best experienced unhurriedly. Call it sound as relief and release; intense undercurrents of magnetic volume attached to an almost symphonic use of motion. Fully realized music as exhilarating as it is ghostly. Whereas earlier Junius records wrestled with cataclysms, escaping Samsara and what might come after death, ‘Sotera’ shifts the focus toward something more immediate: restoring balance through the worship of the divine feminine.

“The word Sotera is the feminine form of savior or protector in Greek, and it perfectly captured what the album was circling around,” offers Martinez. “This album is a musical invocation that explores the divine feminine as a force of transformation and balance. Medea stands at the threshold. In Sotera we’re calling upon Hekate, her mother, to guide us in her resurrection. The Oracle as a loving but ignored prophet. Lucifera appears as the punished light-bringer. The Initiatrix is the one who begins the rite.”

The first track released from ‘Sotera’ is the surging “Initiatrix”. Direct and succinct, “Initiatrix” explores the use of intentional gestures as boosters for cognitive and emotional change. Stream a striking video for Junius‘ “Initiatrix”, created by Joseph E. Martinez:

“‘Initiatrix” distills the album into 3 minutes and 23 seconds, and it captures the heart of the record,” says Martinez. “It’s about willingly stepping into a ritualistic transformation, asking to be changed and accepting the consequences of that choice.”

BEYOND THE STREETS Presents ‘Punx: The Art Of Dead City & Friends’ Exhibition

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 8, 2026

Dead City Punx and a generation of artists channel chaos, survival, and DIY rebellion into a raw, unfiltered redefinition of punk through contemporary art, fashion, music, and mayhem. PUNX is an exhibition bringing together visual artists, musicians, and cultural renegades who embody the spirit of punk today, transforming raw energy and street-born resistance into powerful new forms of creative expression.

PUNX: THE ART OF DEAD CITY & FRIENDS EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

Dead City Punx have reimagined punk not by reviving its past, but by tearing through it with their own volatile, unapologetic version of DIY and street-level activism. What began simply as friends playing music for friends became the chaotic soundtrack to a generation locked down, shut out, and ready to burn. During the peak of the COVID-19 lockdowns, Dead City erupted across Los Angeles and beyond with illegal shows marked by bonfires, graffiti, fireworks, fistfights, and riot police. These spontaneous eruptions of resistance, captured by news crews, cell phones, police body cams, and disposable cameras, unintentionally produced a string of viral moments and permanently altered the punk landscape.

Born from a tight-knit punk crew formed in early ‘90s LA, Dead City Punx founded in 2020 by younger members Grumpy and Meka, quickly joined by Adrian and MIKER – carry the legacy of their scene forward. Each member of Dead City Punx is a survivor. Vandals, yes, but also witnesses to a city that nearly swallowed them whole through addiction, incarceration, and homelessness. Music became their lifeline. Raised on hip hop and rock, they funneled trauma and rage into a collective expression that replaced self-destruction with something louder, messier, and more meaningful. The band became their chosen family, and the fans their fuel.

This exhibition merges artifacts from the band’s brief but explosive history with historical punk ephemera and works by cross-disciplinary contemporary artists including Abe Garcia, Ade Ogunmowo, Albert Reyes, Angela Nguyen, Atiba Jefferson, Chuy Hartman, Ed Templeton, Estevan Oriol, Hannah Vandermolen, Isaac Psalm Escoto (a.k.a. SICKID), Jason Dill, Jimmy Bonks, KC Ortiz, KRAB, Kill Your Idols, MASS TURD, Nadya Tolokonnikova, Ocho Ojos, Oginee Viamontes, Ozzie Juarez, Rory James Toole, Steve Olson, Sydnie Jimenez, Suitcase Joe, Tomas Tumbleweed, Tim Armstrong, Valerie J. Bower & others. These artists share a common impulse: to reject the sanitized and commodified in favor of raw, urgent expression. Rather than existing as a backdrop, these contributions stand as independent yet interconnected statements, each rooted in lived experience and shaped by the urgency of the present moment.

Moving between visual art, object-making, and installation, the artists blur the boundaries between documentation and creation, chaos and intention. Their practices reflect a refusal to conform, embracing risk, instability, and contradiction as essential tools. In this context, the exhibition becomes not just a reflection of punk’s evolution but an active, collective expression of it, where multiple voices collide, overlap, and ultimately redefine the contours of contemporary rebellion.

Spanning multiple disciplines, the exhibition highlights voices that resonate with the same ethos Dead City lives by anti-establishment, anti-authoritarian, fiercely individualistic, and deeply rooted in the DIY spirit. These artists included in PUNX use their mediums as tools of resistance, drawing from personal histories, subcultures, and underground networks to challenge dominant narratives. Whether through painting, sculpture, zines, photography, or performance, their work embodies the same urgency, volatility, and raw authenticity that pulses through Dead City’s music and story.

In the dimly lit catacombs of extreme metal, one name stands as a monolith: ROTTING CHRIST. Sakis Tholis and his brother Themis started this band together back in 1987. In the three decades since, these Greek titans have left their blackened imprint all over the metal world. They’ve released 13 studio albums and played more than 1,300 concerts around the globe. Underneath all this hard work, Rotting Christ have but one vision – an urge to not only push the boundaries of extreme metal, but to keep reinventing themselves along the way.

Rotting Christ’s evolution has unfolded across several distinct chapters. After starting out closer to the barely controlled chaos of grindcore, they went on to establish the iconic sound of Hellenic black metal. Their albums often embrace refined gothic soundscapes, only to plunge back into the depths of blasphemous fervour. Each chapter marked another, further exploration, and an unwavering commitment to push boundaries.

But the real turning point came in 2007, when Rotting Christ signed a pact with Season of Mist. They unleashed a series of albums for the French label that defied any and all expectations. From the piercing Theogonia and the symphonic grandeur of Aelo to the ritualistic intensity of Κατά Τον Δαίμονα Εαυτού, the cinematic experiences created by Rotting Christ became a spectacle of bombastic atmospheres, mesmerizing choirs, and neo-classical arrangements. The unexpected is their modus operandi, with the use of various languages (Latin, Arabic, Greek, English) as well as the extensive use of famous poetry woven into their music, like Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’ on The Heretics.

In 2019, Rotting Christ’s epic journey continued with The Apocryphal Spell compilation, which offered fans an intimate glimpse into unreleased and rare material. This allowed them to gather strength, preparing for the release of their next, highly anticipated, 14th full-length studio album:

Pro Xristou.

Pro Xristou (‘Before Christ’ in Greek), serves as a fervent tribute to the last Pagan kings who resisted the onslaught of Christianity, guarding their ancient values and knowledge. In this thematic odyssey, intricately woven through tracks such as ‘The Apostate’ and ‘Ygdrassil’, Rotting Christ delves into the legacies of historical figures such as Flavius Claudius Julianus and Nordic mythological kings, embodying the might of Pagan wisdom in the face of Christian adversity. The album encapsulates the essence of Rotting Christ’s signature style—melodic, yet harsh at times—reinventing themselves yet again, while remaining rooted in their 35-year legacy.

CHARLOTTE WESSELS’ latest release, The Obsession (2024), has been widely praised for its dynamic range, artistic growth, and emotional depth. Ever Metal highlighted its “skyscraper melodies” and Wessels’ “masterful vocals,” while Blabbermouth noted the album’s impressive variety. Louder Sound described it as “an auspicious and metallicized spin on her dark fairytale aesthetic,” while Metal Sucks called it “a transcendent collection of moving yet forceful and complex compositions,” further cementing her reputation as a versatile and evolving artist.

In fall 2025, CHARLOTTE WESSELS and Asger Mygind of VOLA released the song “Backup Plan” to accompany the deluxe edition of The Obsession, followed by a brand-new single entitled “After Us, The Flood” in early 2026.

About CHARLOTTE WESSELS:
CHARLOTTE WESSELS is a Dutch singer, songwriter, and producer, best known for her distinctive voice and genre-blending approach to modern symphonic metal. In 2005, at the age of 17, Wessels became the lead vocalist of Delain, with whom she released a series of acclaimed albums. Since launching her solo career in 2021, she has carved out a unique artistic identity defined by cinematic storytelling, emotional honesty, and a fearless fusion of styles that bridges metal, alternative, and dark pop influences. Her initial solo releases, Tales from Six Feet Under (2021) and its 2022 sequel, were written and recorded in her basement home studio during the pandemic and shared directly with fans via Patreon. In September 2024, Wessels released The Obsession, her first full studio album under Napalm Records—and her most personal work to date. While incorporating fresh and progressive influences, the album also marks a return to her symphonic metal roots. It features collaborations with former Delain bandmates Timo Somers (guitar), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass), and Joey Marin de Boer (drums), alongside pianist Sophia Vernikov and keyboardist/orchestrator Vikram Shankar. Nina van Beelen joined The Obsession’s live and studio endeavours in 2025. Wessels’ collaborative spirit is evident in guest appearances with artists such as Epica, Kamelot, and Textures, as well as her work on the 2021 Qlimax Anthem with DJ Ran-D.

OBEY THE SUN Redefine Stoner Sludge with New Music Video ‘You Lil’ Sh!t’

Hungary’s Obey the Sun is cementing their status in the European underground with the release of their latest music video, “You Lil’ Shit.” Following the success of their debut, this standout track from their new sophomore EP, Desert Ritual, perfectly encapsulates the quartet’s “stoner metal” identity: a blend of heavy riffs, thick grooves, and defiant aggression. Directed by Péter “Pepe” Tóth, the visual eschews complex narratives for a raw, high-energy performance. Set against an atmospheric, smoke-filled backdrop with artistic lighting, the video highlights the band’s volatile stage presence. According to vocalist Tamás Orbán-Ducos, the goal was a professional yet stripped-back aesthetic that mirrors their core philosophy. By focusing on the musicians’ energy, the video reinforces the band’s reputation as an unapologetic powerhouse of melody and grit. This is the third music video taken from their EP album Desert Ritual which was just released on April 3, 2026 via Eclipse Records.

“This is the third video from the Desert Ritual EP, and we wanted a classic music video for this occasion,” says vocalist Tamás Orbán-Ducos. “Each band member is shown equally, while the lyrics and power of the song are shown through vivid movements, lights and colors that emerge from the smoke-filled environment.”

Desert Ritual, the latest EP from Obey the Sun, is a heavy, atmospheric blast of grit-n’ groove, featuring a feel rough as sludge with a desert-soaked finish. The songs burst with soulful vocals, massive riffs, thunderous rhythms, and an overall attitude that’s raw as rage. The band create a sonic boom that leaves us in pieces and a crunch that would satisfy grunge-lovers, stoners, and metalheads looking for that wall of sound that moves mountains, drains oceans, and shakes the foundations to rubble and powder. In terms of the individual tracks, Desert Ritual is chock full of stunners, starting with “You Lil Shit,” spiced with a groove guitar in delicious alternative dissonance and a strong traditional vocal, both that rasp harder and sweeter measure to measure. Later in the track, we get two bass breakdowns, the second even fatter than the last, and the song ends like a hot rocket right in the rock pocket. “Cosmic Haze” is not just an excuse to get our Floyd on, as it features funky syncopation that quickly turns to nuclear, addictive riffing. The breakdown is a clinic of delicate fingerpicking, and when Tamás goes soft and a bit eerie with his vocal, we don’t know whether it sounds more like ethereal whispers or a shovelful of precious stones and grave soil ticking across the lid of some unholy casket. “Hellhounds” is a masterpiece in dynamics, and it climaxes to inventive chord progressions that give off a wonderful disequilibrium, similar to being on edge watching a Black Mirror episode right before the big moment when all is explained. Desert Ritual was produced, engineered, and mastered by Attila Horvath at Ash Sound Studio, the legacy of the former Supersize Record Studio. The album art was created by Péter Szmolnik. Desert Ritual by Obey The Sun was released on April 3, 2026 via Eclipse Records.

About Obey The Sun:
Obey The Sun are a grunge metal band from Hungary. They give us a hard dose of grit and a blast of attitude with massive riffs, thunderous rhythms, raw soulful vocals, and a desert-soaked feel. With stoner appeal, sludge undertones, and a heavy groove-vibe, we feel their music in the heart of our nightmares and dreamscapes.

BLOOD MOTHER Emerges with First Single ‘The Night Fires’ from Upcoming Self-Titled Debut Studio Album

Rick Giordano, the composer behind THE LION’S DAUGHTER, is re-emerging as BLOOD MOTHER, a devastating new project that combines the post black metal horrors of TLD with haunting, atmospheric soundscapes and Western Americana attitude. Forged in themes of isolation, paranoia, violence and terror, dark and synth-driven ambience coalesces with bouts of chaotic and desperate black metal, while also honing in on the grit and desolation that was no doubt inspired by Giordano’s upbringing in the rugged American heartlands. Combined with the commanding aggression of Giordano’s vocal attack, BLOOD MOTHER offers the score to your own personal horror film.

To commemorate BLOOD MOTHER‘s debut, the project is now unveiling a lyric video for the eerie first single, “The Night Fires,” which can be heard at THIS LOCATION.

“The Night Fires” is taken from BLOOD MOTHER‘s upcoming self-titled studio album, which is due on June 14 independently. Pre-orders are now live via the official webstore HERE or via Bandcamp HERE.

Giordano comments, “Blood Mother is the natural continuation of The Lion’s Daughter, but with a fresh slate that gives me even more freedom to experiment and time to let things breathe. There is room to dig deeper. ‘The Night Fires’ was the first song written for the project and is very much a statement of intent. It establishes the serene beauty, oppressive dread, and wild violence that all take place within the world of the Blood Mother.”

Giordano is accompanied on this self titled debut album by Erik Ramsier, long time drummer and percussionist for the Lion’s Daughter, with artwork by renowned graphic novelist The Salamander King.

The cover artwork was created by The Salamander King and can be found below along with the tracklist.

Tracklisting:

  1. The Night Fires (05:04) [WATCH]
  2. Bonecanter (05:51)
  3. Trail Of The Screaming Dead (04:58)
  4. The Wound Of Heaven (04:00)
  5. Lost In Thunder (05:38)
  6. Pulled Apart (05:36)

Accompanied on this self-titled debut album by Erik Ramsier, longtime drummer and percussionist for the Lion’s Daughter, with artwork by renowned graphic novelist The Salamander King, BLOOD MOTHER isn’t just a reboot, but rather a reinvention. While it still draws from many of THE LION’S DAUGHTER’s original influences, and therefore, the project also defies generic classification much like its predecessor, BLOOD MOTHER is still a clear evolution from what came before. “After 18 years of releasing music and touring the world, the daughter had to die so that the mother could live,” explains Giordano of the new project.

As a fully independent entity, BLOOD MOTHER has no chains, no bounds, and no master. Self-releasing this project with the help of world renowned independent artist manager Wolf Mountain Productions, Giordano is paving his own path and asserting his dominance over the oppressive music industry. Like a renegade cowboy, he joins the ranks of other modern artists who have abandoned all standards and practices to usher in a new era of artist ownership and DIY supremacy. “I’ve never been a person that neatly fits in with any group, or made music that neatly fits into any category, so it just makes sense to operate independently,” Giordano explains. “I also look at the current state of the music and most of the bands that are popular now, and think why the fuck would I want anything to do with that?”

Like a ghost riding out from the desert, Blood Mother is here to paint the town a shade of red found only in Hell… before burning it all to the ground.
