The Magus, the Luciferian project helmed by Necromantia co-founder and ex-Rotting Christ musician The Magus, has revealed the first details about the second album, “Daemonosophia”.
The new album, which will be released in early 2026, promises a more aggressive and dynamic sound compared to the previous album, “ΒΥΣΣΟΔΟΜΩΝΤΑΣ”, while keeping the devouring dark atmosphere the project’s music is known for. The album’s sound has some unexpected and diabolically diverse moments that will make listeners feel uneasy.
For the album cover art, The Magus collaborated with Mexican artist Nestor Avalos, known for his work with numerous bands, including Exodus, Deicide and Rotting Christ. The artwork is an Infernal Triptych that portrays six infernal entities: Lucifer/Samael, Leviathan/Tiamat, and Belial/Satan. Nestor created a majestic painting of infernal wisdom and occult meanings, giving prominence to the Luciferian tradition and the music of the album.
Read The Magus’ statement in full: “Disciples, we are revealing to you the cover, title and track-list of our second opus: Daemonosophia! An album that proves that pure truth and infinite wisdom is to be found NOT above but below…..
“Musically, it is more edgy and vengeful than our first album. More aggressive and dynamic, but at the same time retaining the devouring dark atmosphere our music always has. Of course, there are some diabolically diverse moments that will surprise and will make you feel uneasy, but this is the beauty of making intelligent art… The Era of Satan Rising ……or The Era of Lucifer Rising……
“For the cover, we decided to work with the notoriously talented artist from Mexico, Mr Nestor Avalos, known for his work with EXODUS, DEICIDE, NECROMANTIA, MELECHESH, ROTTING CHRIST, VARATHRON, KREATOR, DARK FUNERAL, SACRAMENTUM etc.
“It is an Infernal Triptychon. Portraying six (yes) infernal entities: Lucifer / Samael in the centre, Leviathan / Tiamat to the left and Belial / Satan to the right. Each of them portraying its qualities and all the six in three lead to one. We were working for months together to achieve the perfect result in the finest detail. Nestor himself is involved in the occult arts so he understood perfectly what we wanted, and indeed, he created a majestic painting of infernal wisdom and occult meanings, giving prominence to the Luciferian tradition and the music of the album!
“You will be able to discover all the available versions of the album and the first samples of our music in a few weeks…until then….WE RISE FROM THE DEPTHS”

The Magus was formed in 2022, following the dissolution of the legendary Greek black metal band Necromantia, which The Magus co-founded. He decided to end Necromantia after the death of his bandmate Baron Blood in 2019, releasing a final album, “To the Depths We Descend”, in 2021 as a tribute. For this new project, The Magus brought in long-time collaborators El on guitars and Maelstrom on drums.
Belgian psychedelic post-metal collective Psychonaut return with ‘And You Came With Searing Light’, taken from their forthcoming album World Maker, out 24th October via Pelagic Records. Known for weaving together towering riffs, polyrhythmic precision and deep philosophical themes, the trio now turn inward, navigating the shifting terrain of fatherhood, grief and hope.
‘And You Came With Searing Light’ immediately exemplifies Psychonaut’s redirected ambition on World Maker, as euphoria collides with blinding fury. The first track written for the album, ‘…Searing Light’ is easily the most complex and initially wouldn’t sound out of place on previous album Violate Consensus Reality. Originally meant to be the new album’s opening track; the decision to defer its impact, not to mention its compositional and dynamic gravity, speaks of a fundamental change to the band’s very core. The words “Discover the world with wide eyes” recurring throughout speak as much to those having lost a part of their world as they do to those seeing it for the first time.
The traditional, three-piece line up of Belgian, psychedelic post-metal collective Psychonaut has long belied the compositional prowess, captivating narrative depth and crushing live presence of a band now operating at the forefront of forward-thinking, contemporary heavy music.
A record born of insurmountable joy and simultaneous profound loss; World Maker marks a time of great change for Psychonaut, both personally and musically, as the band burn away the philosophical narrative complexities of previous offerings with a searing, panoramic clarity that implores us to savour the beauty of the now as a means of leaving a legacy for the future.
The seed of World Maker took shape just as the campaign for previous record Violate Consensus Reality came to a close, with the news that guitarist/vocalist Stefan De Graef was to become a father. This tilting of life’s axis led De Graef, like most fathers-to-be, to re-assess what was really important. As such, the music he was inspired to write felt free of the band’s previous philosophical and spiritual foundations and instead took the form of life lessons for his unborn son, a legacy of love in case something were ever to happen.
This hopeful euphoria shines keenly throughout World Maker as an uncharacteristically optimistic warmth; from the reverberating Rhodes organ on the titular opening track and the meandering, free-jazz inspired guitar solo that introduces ‘Everything Else is Just The Weather’ to elements of world music, electronica and the otherworldly voice of Dutch multi-instrumentalist and old friend Anthe Huybrechts (Anthe/Helion Creek) most notably on tracks like ‘Origins’ which also features tabla, a pair of indian hand drums, as its propulsive heartbeat.
Whilst Psychonaut’s giant riffs, punishing polyrhythms and guttural vocal rage are more resplendent than ever, there is a wider dynamic spectrum to World Maker that sees the band proudly exploring their more delicate, intimate extremes as well as their most aggressive and abrasive. Not long after the birth of De Graef’s son came the devastating news that both his own father and Psychonaut bassist/vocalist Thomas Michiels’ father had been diagnosed with advanced cancers. Living day-to-day and torn between joy and grief, the band found themselves shedding the grand scope and world-shattering agenda of Violate Consensus Reality to focus on the here and now.
Amidst such turbulent times, the band found strength and support within their post-metal community. The album was recorded and produced by the band alongside their long-time collaborator and close friend Chiaran Verheyden (Hippotraktor) with help and advice from Psychonaut’s live engineer Victor, who will no doubt make this album sound just as awesome on stage. Even the artwork for World Maker was a family affair, being designed by close friend SamCoussens of Belgian cosmic sludge metallers Pothamus.
In the face of life’s soaring highs and desolate lows, World Maker is direct and brave without sacrificing any of Psychonaut’s raw power, creative innovation or inimitable musical depth. Where their previous full-length offerings have charted grand introspective courses through time and space, World Maker is breathtaking in its uncompromising clarity: a father singing to his newborn son as a son bids his own father farewell.
Having sent a shockwave through the post-metal and prog scenes with their three times repressed Pelagic Records debut Unfold The God Man in 2020 before following it up with the transformative metaphysical complexities of 2022’s Violate Consensus Reality, Psychonaut have played prestigious Belgian open-air festivals like Alcatraz, Rock Herk and Boomtown Festival as well as boutique events such as Soulcrusher, Roadburn Redux and A Colossal Weekend whilst sharing stages across Europe with the likes of Amenra, Brutus and Pelagic labelmates The Ocean and PG.Lost.

Kiesel Guitars proudly introduces the Masvidalien MIII, the debut Kiesel signature model from Paul Masvidal, guitarist and composer known for his work with Cynic, Death, Æon Spoke, and Mythical Human Vessel.
Built in Kiesel’s California factory, the MIII was designed with strength, resonance, and playability at its core. Inspired by Kiesel’s Kyber model, which Masvidal was already connected to, the MIII began as a natural extension of that instrument but quickly evolved into something uniquely its own, a Hybrid Guitar that expands on the Kyber’s spirit and opens new creative ground.
“Creating the Masvidalien MIII with Jeff and the Kiesel family at their Southern California factory was educational and eye opening,” say Masvidal. Every step taught me something new, from experimenting with strength and resonance in the neck to noticing the subtle details that make a guitar feel alive against the body. Even obstacles opened new doors, leading to the discovery of a pickup voicing that surprised us with its sound. Working with Jeff was a unique experience. I could bring in ideas from my perspective, and he would ground them in what was possible, or reveal a new path I had not considered. The back and forth shaped the guitar in ways I could not have reached alone.”
“Through it all I learned the value of patience, of showing up and letting the instrument itself guide the process. What emerged is both personal and universal, a guitar designed for playability, balance, and substance. Guitars evolve as musicians and styles evolve, so this work is like a living organism that will keep expanding. These instruments honor the classic reference points left by the great master luthiers while embracing the infinite possibilities ahead. For me, the MIII is a symbol of that evolution.”
To mark the launch, Masvidal filmed a performance video that captures both the spirit of the MIII and of California. Shot with spontaneous, off the cuff moments to reflect the true feel of the instrument, the video also includes b roll footage that Masvidal describes as his love letter to San Francisco, the city where he now lives. For Masvidal, the guitar and film together celebrate not only the evolution of the instrument but also the inspiration of California itself. The video can be seen below.
Masvidal co-founded Cynic as a teenager, recording several demos before being invited to play guitar on Death’s landmark Human. Cynic would go on to release records that reshaped progressive music, including Focus, Traced in Air, and Ascension Codes. Beyond Cynic, his work spans film, television, and experimental solo projects, all rooted in exploration and sound.
The Masvidalien MIII continues this spirit, merging playability, resonance, and thoughtful design in collaboration with Kiesel’s Escondido based team.
Paul Masvidal is a groundbreaking guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of Cynic, a pioneering progressive metal band known for its innovative fusion of metal, jazz, and experimental music. Widely respected as a groundbreaking guitarist and songwriter, Masvidal has collaborated with major artists across genres, adding to his legacy as an innovative musician. Over time, he has become a well recognized figure in the metal and progressive music community, with countless younger artists and musicians citing him as a key influence in both technical ability and creative vision.
Known for his philosophical and spiritual approach to art, exploring themes of the dream-like nature of reality, consciousness, and the search for deeper truths, his music transcends labels, resonating with fans of both the metal world and beyond, thanks to his ability to combine technicality with emotional depth.
Masvidal played guitar on Death’s influential album, ‘Human,’ and helped shape the genre with Cynic’s acclaimed 1993 release, ‘Focus,’ often regarded as a seminal record in progressive metal. Following ‘Focus,’ Cynic expanded their sound with albums such as ‘Traced in Air’ (2008), and explored more experimental territory with EPs ‘Re-Traced’ (2010) and ‘Carbon-Based Anatomy’ (2011), which reimagined Cynic’s music with atmospheric and ambient textures. Cynic continued to evolve with the full-length album ‘Kindly Bent to Free Us’ (2014), which took a more raw, progressive rock trio direction, further solidifying their role as innovators in the genre.
In 2022, Cynic released the futuristic concept album ‘Ascension Codes,’ a deeply philosophical record that explores themes of cosmic consciousness, spirituality, and transcendence, showcasing Masvidal’s continued creative evolution.
In addition to his work with Cynic, Masvidal has produced a solo trilogy, Mythical Human Vessel, and led the alternative project Æon Spoke. He gained significant attention for his personal coming-out story in the LA Times, advocating for LGBTQ+ representation in the metal community in 2014, where he courageously shared his journey as a gay man in the metal scene, shattering stereotypes and inspiring fans worldwide.during a time when coming out was still taboo. A dedicated vegan, Masvidal promotes conscious living and mindfulness, further extending his creativity through his jewelry line, Masvidalien, inspired by metaphysical concepts.
Masvidal has also collaborated with various artists and composed music for TV and film, including the award-winning The Tiger Hunter. He has also launched two signature guitars with Strandberg and now Kiesel, cementing his place as a guitarist whose influence is felt by players across a wide spectrum of genres.
For the last two years, he has been actively touring with Cynic, including the 30th anniversary memorial tour for Focus, bringing the band’s music to audiences around the world with renewed energy and resonance. Widely respected, Masvidal continues to influence generations of musicians with his technical prowess and philosophical approach to art.
