STONED JESUS Premiere Mind-Melting New Album “Songs to Sun”

While they’ve blazed beyond the hot box of stoner metal, after 16 years, Stoned Jesus are still expanding their horizons. This week, the heavy progressive rockers are officially embarking on a three-album journey that will take them all the way to the sun, moon and back. Though created during a dark period of instability, the trilogy’s stunning opener, Songs to Sun, is guided by a burning passion for innovation that frontman Igor Sydorenko shares with his new bandmates.

“The melodies, the hooks, the progressive side coming together with the sheer joy of a band riding grooves”, The Obelisk writes of Songs to Sun in an early review. “…it’s a next-level, AOTY-contender-type outing”.

“This is an outstanding record from a band who are simply at THE TOP OF THEIR GAME and who deserve all the plaudits fully coming their way”, salutes Outlaws of the Sun.

Songs to Sun was released on September 19 on Season of Mist, and you can hear all six mind-melting tracks by listening to the full album stream on the Season of Mist YouTube channel:

“It’s time for Songs to Sun to arrive”, Sydorenko says. “The first part of The Songs Trilogy is one of our heaviest and intense yet eclectic and intricate collection of tracks to date. I’m extremely proud of presenting it to you all to enjoy. Can’t wait to play this material live, too. See you on the road!”

Stoned Jesus are true trailblazers. Though often associated with the stoner crowd, frontman Igor Sydorenko has experimented with folk, prog, pop and alternative rock amidst familiar doses of doom. But after hitting the road hard in celebration of the band’s 15th anniversary, Sydorenko and his new mates set off for higher creative peaks.

“Each album in our upcoming trilogy highlights a different phase to Stoned Jesus”, Sydorenko says. “Songs to Sun shows off our heavier, more aggressive side”.

As if climbing above a mountain in the desert, massive opener “New Dawn” slowly appears on the horizon before bursting into flame behind a heavy psychedelic groove. More nods to Seven Thunders Roar and The Harvest appear like a rippling heat wave throughout Songs to Sun. Lead single “Shadowland” slides into Sydorenko’s catchiest riff since “Here Come the Robots”, though he and his new mates outrun their demons with a gothic spell of keys before breaking toward the light with a high-powered fusion of pop melodies and headbanging prog.

An existential shadow hangs over Songs to Sun. The album reflects the unstable ground that Sydorenko navigated once the band’s previous lineup dissolved. “There’s a constant sense of instability that seeps through the lyrics of Songs to Sun“, he says. “Lost in the Rain” dwells on a break-up amidst a shimmering ballad that finds the sweet spot between Pink Floyd and King Crimson. Even the rubber-burning “See You on the Road” puts the pedal to the metal despite the grind of life on tour.

But even though Songs to Sun provides plenty of headbanging moments, it’s the love for experimenting with their music that continues to give the members of Stoned Jesus a rock-solid foundation. “This is probably the happiest I’ve been creatively in Stoned Jesus”, Sydorenko says. “With both Andrew and Yuri now in the band, we can experiment as deep as we can”. “Low” breaks away from people-pleasing tendencies by doing something the band has never done before. Andrew Rodin holds down the low end with a climbing bass line and punishing backing vocals, only for Yurii Ciel to blow the song wide open with a torrential rush of blast beats.

“I’m tired of ideals, they’re fragile and unreal”, Sydorenko bristles as Songs to Sun begins to set. While the only time when the amps aren’t cranked to 11, “Quicksand” is not only the longest but also the album’s heaviest song. Written many years ago, but deemed too personal to share until now, its prickly acoustics strip away any and all pre-conceptions as Stoned Jesus prepare for the dark next phase of this epic journey.

“Songs to Sun merges the groovy intensity of stoner metal with the profound intricacies of vintage prog, while keeping the riffs and the choruses as catchy as ever” Sydorenko says. “One will hear a lot of new twists and turns. Being able to experiment is the only way to progress for me and the boys in the band”.

On Songs to Sun, Stoned Jesus set their heavy progressive rock to stun.

Since 2009, Stoned Jesus has served as one of Europe’s leading forces in heavy rock. Igor Sydorenko, a veteran of the Ukrainian underground music scene, started it as a solo project after stumbling upon some heavy and angry riffs that would become the song “Occult.” He fed off his Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin influences and was soon turned onto Electric Wizard and Sleep, two bands who mastered the art of bold, lurching heaviness, thus creating a sonic template to abide by.

The Kyiv-based project was initially dubbed “Stoned Jesus from the Outer Space” but shortened to the much crisper Stoned Jesus. The name was trimmed down out of necessity — Sydorenko wanted to legitimize the band immediately. “I realized that this may cause some problems,” he told Psychedelic Baby in 2010. “Some people wouldn’t take our music seriously, then. I don’t mind jokes and having fun, but music is always the most serious thing for me.”

Two demos ensued before Stoned Jesus’s debut LP, 2010’s First Communion. Recorded with the first line-up in two hours, First Communion was a promising offering that dove headlong into the world of heavy stoner rock, with three songs going over the 10-minute mark for hypnotic effect. The album eventually saw a proper reissue in 2020, introducing it to a new group of fans. The first change of rhythm section brought Seven Thunders Roar in 2012, which included “I’m the Mountain,” a 13-minute epic that has since become a live staple. The album also introduced a bevy of acoustic guitar and softer vocal approaches from Sydorenko.

The Harvest came next in 2015 with a new drummer, deftly transitioning Stoned Jesus into the new terrain, with more alternative and progressive rock leanings. This is a credit to Sydorenko’s evolving songwriting style and desire to never allow Stoned Jesus to repeat itself. “It works brilliantly for the likes of Motörhead or AC/DC, but we’re not that legendary yet,” he told Outlaws of the Sun in 2015. “So, let’s experiment, shall we? Let’s play with the genres, the sound, the song structures, the melodies, the time signatures — yes, my favorite trick!”

With another change of the drummer, the fourth LP, Pilgrims, arrived in 2018. A bold and experimental record, it showed the growing maturity of both musical and lyrical sides of Igor’s ever-progressing songwriting. After a year-long The Pilgrimage Tour and yet another year on the road celebrating the band’s 10th anniversary with the greatest hits setlist, Stoned Jesus’ original plans were to record its follow-up in 2020. That, of course, was sidelined by the pandemic. The band then entered Spivaki Records in Kharkiv in July 2021 to record nine songs at 75 minutes. Two-thirds of the material was mixed and mastered before the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, leaving the final run-time of six songs at 43 minutes.

The result was Father Light, the band’s first for Season of Mist, which caught Stoned Jesus in full bloom. The foundational elements of Stoned Jesus’s sound remained (fuzzed-out rock, driving bass lines and maximum groove), once again augmented by the combination of Sydorenko’s gentle clean vocals and hook-laden chorus choices, along with an array of ornamental guitar melodies. And, in true Stoned Jesus fashion, the journey is often the reward. The cuts on Father Light expand and shift — all the while, the band’s trademark heaviness serves as the guide.

Mother Dark, the gloomier introspective twin of Father Light, while partially recorded was shelved due to Igor’s dissatisfaction with the working dynamics of the latest Stoned Jesus line-up. Dissolving said line-up was a difficult decision to make, but Igor’s relocation to Europe brought a surprising reunion with his old friend Yurii, a talented drummer Igor had known even before writing the first Stoned Jesus song. Adding bassist-vocalist Andrew Rodin to this new line-up solidified its reliability, and now, after the whole year of relentless 25th Anniversary Tour schedule, the reinvigorated Stoned Jesus is more than ready for their next chapter.

Songs to Sun is the first album in a forthcoming trilogy that once complete, will stand as the pinnacle of what’s been a decades-long trip for Stoned Jesus. While picking up where Father Light left off, Sydorenko and his new mates still nod to Seven Thunders Roar and The Harvest along the way. But by merging metal’s fiery intensity with mind-melting grooves, vintage prog and their catchiest choruses yet, they bring the many distinct phases of Stoned Jesus to a bright, burning head.

DALE BOZZIO Talks Missing Persons, Zappa, Fame And Resilience with Pirate Radio Cleopatra

Cleopatra Records’ twice monthly Pirate Radio Cleopatra is back with a new Vintage Interviews special, this time featuring Missing Persons vocalist Dale Bozzio.

Still active more than 40 years after Missing Persons erupted onto the scene with a seemingly endless succession of monster hit singles, Dale reflects not only upon that band’s success, but also her earlier career alongside Frank Zappa – a friendship, she tells us, that began when she broke into one of his live shows in 1972.

She discusses, too, the demands placed upon the band by the fast-changing nature of the early 1980s music scene… Missing Persons were part of that generation for whom simply making records and playing concerts was only the beginning. Now, she laughs, they were expected to be movie stars as well, as MTV rose to prominence, and video established itself as the industry’s promo tool of choice.

Still touring and recording, still appearing under the Missing Persons name, Dale was long ago proclaimed an 80s legend. Her recent recordings, however, prove that she is so much more, and alongside such first-time-around-ers as “Destination Unknown,” “Walking In L.A.” and “Words,” we also hear energetic cuts from the albums New Wave Sessions (2007), Missing In Action (2014), Dreaming (2020) and Hollywood Lie (2023), and some startling cover versions, too.

BLACK STONE CHERRY to Release Brand-New EP “Celebrate”, New Single Video ‘Neon Eyes’ Out Now

Kentucky’s finest, Black Stone Cherry, will release their brand-new EP, ‘Celebrate’, which will be digitally available on 6 March 2026 via Mascot Records. They explode back into action with the video for their new track, ‘Neon Eyes.’

Black Stone Cherry are a band in the truest sense of the term. Hard rockers of enormous heart. Four accomplished songwriters with rock, metal, roots, blues, soul and hip hop in their blood. Old friends with an instinctive, compassionate sense for what each other is feeling.

On ‘Celebrate’ – produced by the band and recorded at High Street Studios in Bowling Green, Kentucky – they embody all this at the height of their powers. There’s happiness and heartache. Muscular hooks and raw soul. The life experiences of four men approaching forty (two of them parents), in one emotive, unpolished diamond of a record. Six commanding, stage-ready original tracks and an inspired cover of Simple Minds’ ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ featuring Tyler Connolly (Theory Of A Deadman).

New track ‘Neon Eyes’ was a soundcheck riff that exploded into a thumping, hard rock party-starter, and the video follows them on a typical day in the life of a band on the road, as they arrive at their stunning headline performance at the 2025 Maid of Stone Festival in the UK.

You get a glimpse of the band behind the scenes, how they prepare for a show, them mingling with the crowd, fans rejoicing throughout the day, and all the way up to a typically high voltage performance showing what an undeniable force they are – plus some magical and unforgettable memories made during the day – watch the video to the end…

Talking about the song, the band say, “For Neon Eyes we had the riff recorded on an iPhone and immediately wrote a song around it when we first started writing for this EP. We knew we wanted the main riff to also be the chorus so once we landed on the title, everything fell into place. A classic BSC banger.”

Black Stone Cherry are masters of taking a somber subject and flipping it on its head, creating a punchy, empowering rock song. “Any piece of art is a snapshot of that artist’s life,” singer/guitarist Chris Robertson reasons. “I look at these songs as a culmination of everything we’ve lived since Screamin’ At The Sky.”

“None of us are precious, because we’re all fighting on the same team,” Ben says. “John Fred might have a guitar riff, or me or Chris might have a drum beat. And Steve is our bass player, but he played slide on the last album, and there’s parts on the new stuff where he plays guitar. It was cool to think you could start the day without a song, and five hours later walk out with a demo.”

‘Celebrate’ is an EP of contrasts. ‘I’m Fine’ is a dreamily woozy, Nirvana-laced grunge singalong. But it was the searing, mid-tempo heartache of ‘Deep’ that struck a really pertinent chord – with Ben in particular. Following long struggles with fertility issues, he and his wife suffered a miscarriage midway through the writing process. Two days later, he was channelling the experience into ‘Deep’.

For a curveball, ‘Celebrate’ is capped off with a strapping yet sensuous cover of Simple Minds’ classic ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, featuring guest vocals from old Black Stone friend Tyler Connolly (Theory Of A Deadman). Immortalised in John Hughes’ seminal 1985 coming-of-age film The Breakfast Club, it turned out to be a surprisingly natural fit for Black Stone Cherry. A happy pairing with the soulful gravel and sincerity of Chris’s vocals. “I love that song!” the frontman laughs.

No one in Black Stone Cherry takes what they have for granted, least of all their fans. They’ll play to thousands in an arena or festival field, followed by a 100-capacity pub, and put on the exact same show. You can feel it in ‘Celebrate’: the sense that their hearts are totally invested, their priorities clear. Time spent with loved ones. Supporting one another. Connecting with audiences. Music that makes you feel something. No polish, no faking it, just moments that matter.

TWISTED SISTER’s JAY JAY FRENCH: “Why Mark Mendoza will not be part of upcoming reunion shows”

Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon spoke to Guitarist and founder of TWISTED SISTER about the band coming out of retirement once again for  50 year celebration shows. Watch the video interview below.

When asked why TWISTED SISTER are reuniting  this time around?

“Dee (Snider) called and he said, “Hey, man. Let’s do it one more time. I thought to myself, I have a whole other life.  I do motivational speaking. I have a book. I write articles, I go to audio shows. I write reviews of audio gear…etc.. I love that. That’s truly what I love. But here’s the thing. Ask a boxer why they go back in the ring. And they go because I’ll never feel that way again. And the truth is it’s a lot healthier than boxing. So, if I can go out on stage to 100,000 people and have them sing ‘We’re Noting Take It To Me’ one More Time, I’ll take that because there’s nothing as intoxicating as having 100,000 people sing your songs to you. There’s nothing better. So, it’s a chance for my daughter to be embarrassed one more time.(laughs).”

When asked about the statements made by the Twisted Sister camp in regards to Criticising artist who always come out of retirement ?

” Dee (Snider) (made those statements), he also said I think we should run that (those statements) before we go on stage every night. I think we should play all of the ‘We’re never getting back together again.’  ‘We refuse to do this or anyone who does this is an idiot.’ ‘You’re a joke if you do that.’ Why would you do that? We’ll just keep running them all. You know, of course. ”

When asked why Mark Mendoza was not being  part of the 50 year reunion
“It happens with bands. Bands are like marriages and things happen.  Me, Dee, and Eddie (Ojeda) have played through 10 different drummers and bass players, right? Most people don’t know this. We have never spoken about why someone is in and why someone is out. We never have. And don’t forget, I go back three more years. I go back to 13 ex-members of the band. 13. I had never spoken about them. My attitude is that a realignment takes place for lack of a better word, however you have to do it to keep your business moving and you make your business move. And that’s really all there is to it. And I don’t want to bring in any more than that. People know what they know and I have no reason to throw, you know, dirt on anything whatsoever. You make the move to keep the business moving forward and it’s exactly what Twisted Sister has always done. We have four original members. We have 80% original. Joe Franco (drummer) is back with us. He was one of our drummers. He played on our albums and toured with us. So, we have a very high percentage of original band members. And I’m very proud of that because some bands are touring with no original members. And I’m proud of me, Dee, and Eddie. Let me tell you, we’ve been together shoulder-to-shoulder on stage for thousands of shows, not hundreds. Yeah. Yeah. Thousands of shows. And we’re going to celebrate that one more time. “

TWISTED SISTER  has announced its first reunion concert as part of the band’s 50th-anniversary tour. The band will perform at Barcelona Rock Fest, which will take place from July 3 to July 5 in Barcelona, Spain.

Italian DEATHOX Sign with SoundsRock Agency

SoundsRock Agency is thrilled to announce the signing with Italian DEATHOX.

DEATHOX was born in a very particular way.
BeKy, the author and founder from Turin, after years of arrangements and creations for other artists, decides to record some songs for himself. The songs are created exclusively to give vent to the artist’s roughest and darkest creative side and their purpose is to remain in BeKy’s studio, called Backup Studio, becoming part of a long line of personal songs. No releases, no press.

One day Cosimo De Nola, who’s got his own recording studio near Beky’s and who is also a drummer, accidentally hears the songs and tells the composer that he should do something more than just keeping them secret within his personal archive. But BeKy has no band and hasn’t any the time to create one from scratch. So he decides to record all the songs himself, with Cosimo taking care of the rhythmic part. While the songs evolve, BeKy comes up with the idea of contacting some singers to have each of them record a different track of the album. From this idea fourteen tracks are developed, and Beky also chooses to have a different guitarist in each of them play a guitar solo.

At this point “Psycollective” is finished!
The album receives an incredible echo and BeKy, with his ceaseless creative drive, decides to bring forward the Deathox project, this time looking for a lineup he considers best for a new band.
Finally with a full lineup Deathox can begin an Old Style Thrash Metal project with lots of ideas already waiting to be developed. BeKy starts writing and composing and in a few months the second album is ready for recording.
