CRYPTOPSY Named Decibel Cover Artist for 250th Issue

While already enshrined amongst the magazine’s unholy Hall of Fame, in the 30+ years since their ungentle exhumation from the Canadian underground, Cryptopsy had never graced the cover of Decibel. But now, the band’s new album An Insatiable Violence has turned the worm in their favor.

Today, Decibel announced Cryptopsy as the cover artist for their 250th issue. The cover photo, which was taken by Shimon Karmel, honors their legacy as the most vile band in death metal. All four members spoke with long-time Decibel contributor Justin M. Norton about the eerily prescient concept behind An Insatiable Violence and how their new album continues Cryptopsy’s resurgence.

“We are honored to be on the cover of Decibel magazine’s 250th issue”, Cryptopsy says. “Decibel is by far one of the most important metal magazines. The fact that we get to grace its cover is a monumental achievement. Of course, we had to do something special and dig up some worms for this now iconic photo shoot!”

“I can’t believe it’s taken us 250 issues and 21 years to finally put Cryptopsy on Decibel‘s cover”, says the magazine’s editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian. “The Canadian legends have been long-deserving, but the fact that their appearance coincides with their best album in over two decades is a reward for everyone who loves death metal”.

“This cover feature is based on more than 15 interviews and tells the entire arc of Cryptopsy’s history, from their rise in the ’90s to their challenges this century to their excellent new album An Insatiable Violence“, Norton says. “As an original Cryptopsy fan dating back to the ’90s, it was a full-circle experience and a great challenge to chronicle their history and comeback”.

“I was thrilled and honored to get the call from Decibel to go to Montreal to shoot the might Cryptopsy for their cover story”, says Karmel. “Cryptopsy was one of the first death metal bands I ever saw live (all the way back in 2002) so they’ve always been special to me. Flo and the guys had a pretty clear idea of what they wanted to do for the cover shot so I essentially just lit and composed it. The guys showed up with a couple boxes of live worms and we just took it from there. It was a super fun shoot and I’m totally stoked with how it turned out!”

Decibel Issue No. 250 can be ordered through the magazine’s website.

An Insatiable Violence comes out June 20 on Season of Mist.

A person spends all day building a machine, only for it to torture them through the night. As if that wasn’t twisted enough, they like it. In fact, they like being tortured so much that, come morning, they wake up rejuvenated, eager to tweak the machine until it runs perfectly in their mind.

This is the nocturnal vision that inspired Cryptopsy’s ninth full-length nightmare. An Insatiable Violence mirrors our toxic relationship with social media, but while eerily prescient, the album is influenced by the many mutations that have defined the band’s Hall of Fame discography. The album’s lead single bumps and grinds with gruesome bass slaps – and yet, at its core “Until There’s Nothing Left” stakes its claim as their biggest earworm.

Cryptopsy recognize that not every brutal technical death metal band sticks around long enough to win a Canadian Grammy 30 years into their career. The cover for An Insatiable Violence was created by the band’s late, great vocalist Martin Lacroix, who would growl with unholy delight over the freshly fetid depths of Matt McGachy’s false chord scream.

But despite having claimed the crown as the most vile band in death metal on only their second stab in the studio, Cryptopsy are still pushing the limits of extremity on An Insatiable Violence. Even Flo Mounier – who literally wrote the book on extreme metal drumming – has honed new techniques to keep their blasphemy fresh. For its finishing move, album closer “Malicious Needs” slithers to a crawl before ascending like a bat into a blackened cloud of smoke.

Bow to the new vileness from extreme metal royalty.

Metalheads who are chomping at the bit for An Insatiable Violence can further their appetite by revisiting Cryptopsy’s hallowed catalogue. Since signing with Season of Mist in 2024, the band have reissued their 1993 demo Ungentle Exhumation, revered debut Blasphemy Made Flesh, the widely-worshiped None So Vile, their triumphant self-titled and The Book of Suffering Tome I + II, which is now available for the first time on one combined LP.

PRIMAL FEAR Unveil Fiery New Single And Music Video ‘The Hunter’

Less than three months before their new album “Domination” hits the shelves (September 5, 2025 via Reigning Phoenix Music), German metal frontrunners PRIMAL FEAR shift up another gear with ‘The Hunter.’ The second single from the record tells a conceived story while it musically sounds the attack for the quintet’s upcoming record.

Being also the opening track of “Domination,” the track builds up tension with anthemic lead harmonies before bursting drums and guitars break through the idyll to set the tone for another highly melodic piece from PRIMAL FEAR’s musical forge. The single additionally cements the thoroughly positive impression the group left with first single ‘Far Away,’ which saw them introduce their striking new line-up.

“Science fiction scenery, the beast is behind you, it’s me, I’m THE HUNTER, so better watch out, I smell your blood and I’m gonna get you!” warns vocalist Ralf Scheepers grinningly.

Picking up the dystopian theme of the single, director Patric Ullaeus (IN FLAMES, AMARANRATHE, EVERGREY etc.) placed the band — Scheepers, bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner, guitarists Thalìa Bellazecca and Magnus Karlsson, and drummer André Hilgers — in ruined environment to create a ‘metal as f**k’ music video where they find themselves surrounded by hellfire.

“Domination” was recorded at Dennis Ward’s Kangaroo Studios (HELLOWEEN, ANGRA etc.) in autumn 2024, produced by Mat Sinner and co-produced by Ralf Scheepers as well as Magnus Karlsson. Rounded off by multiple PRIMAL FEAR mixing/mastering engineer Jacob Hansen (AMORPHIS, VOLBEAT etc.) at his own studios in Denmark, the album artwork was designed by Death.Milk.Designs.

About PRIMAL FEAR

Going strong for nearly three decades, the band founded and still led by Mat Sinner (bass, vocals) and Ralf Scheepers (vocals) have never let down their global fanbase. Relentless and constantly pushing their limits, PRIMAL FEAR ensure that no two albums ever sound the same. After “Code Red” [2023] hit some of the highest chart positions of their career, expectations for the next release were higher than ever. Now joined by gifted guitarist Thalìa Bellazecca and former touring drummer André Hilgers, the quintet were more than up for the challenge. And as “Domination” makes clear, no obstacle is too great for PRIMAL FEAR’s powerhouse songwriting trio – Sinner, Scheepers, and guitarist Magnus Karlsson, who also rejoins the band’s live line-up after several years away.

From the hard-hitting opener ‘The Hunter’ and first single ‘Far Away,’ to the uplifting mid-tempo anthem ‘Tears Of Fire’ and the epic ballad ‘Eden’ – featuring a surprise guest appearance by AD INFINITUM’s Melissa Bonny – “Domination” delivers on all fronts. Add in neck-breakers like ‘Scream’ and ‘Crossfire,’ and the reflective, string-and-piano-driven closer ‘A Tune I Won’t Forget,’ and it’s clear: PRIMAL FEAR aren’t here to reclaim the crown – they’re here to prove they’ve never left the throne of heavy/power metal royalty.

PRIMAL FEAR are:
Ralf Scheepers | vocals
Mat Sinner | bass, vocals
Magnus Karlsson | guitars
Thalìa Bellazecca | guitars
André Hilgers | drums

DOUBLE VISION Unveil New Video ‘The Man You Make Me’

US melodic rockers DOUBLE VISION take a bold step forward with the release of their powerful new single, “The Man You Make Me,” out now via Frontiers Music Srl. Known for delivering pitch-perfect recreations of Foreigner’s timeless hits, DOUBLE VISION now solidifies their transition into original music with a track that captures the soaring spirit and emotional depth of classic ’80s rock while injecting a fresh, modern edge. The new single comes alongside a visualizer, available below.

About the track, lead singer Chandler Mogel comments:

“When I heard this song as a contender for the record (written by my dear friend and super talent Aleena Gibson), I was blown away and had to record it for the record. It’s literally one of the best ballads I’ve ever heard, and I feel so blessed it fell into my lap! I really hope that others will feel the same, it’s a really special and intimate song – kind of like ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ – just a real centerpiece ballad with a great arrangement and a memorable chorus that you can’t get out of your head.”

Having made their name as a Foreigner tribute band, DOUBLE VISION’s brand new self-titled album is all original tunes and will hit the streets on July 11, 2025, via Frontiers Music Srl.

About the new album, DOUBLE VISION comments:

“We wanted to make a record that would be totally our own, but still contain a hat tip (or more) to Foreigner. We didn’t want something derivative, but at the same time, something that would appeal to fans of the band. We wanted our own identity and stamp. However, we do feel that a good way to describe the album is that if you took all the different eras of Foreigner and rolled them into one, along with some other sporadic influences, it would sound something like DOUBLE VISION.”

Check out this EPK about DOUBLE VISION and their new album of all original material HERE

Pre-Order ‘DOUBLE VISION’ HERE

‘Double Vision’ Track List:

1. Prison of Illusion
2. No Fool for Love
3. The Man You Make Me
4. I Know the Way
5. Youphoria
6. Look Out for Me
7. Transient Times (Instrumental)
8. Silence Is Louder
9. Church of the Open Mind
10. Once Before
11. A Stranger’s Face
12. This Day and Age
13. Love Could Rule

Born as a Foreigner tribute band in the United States, DOUBLE VISION honed their craft performing to lively and sold-out crowds up and down the East Coast and across the country, soon becoming a real live attraction. With a lineup boasting some of New York City’s top professional rock musicians and well-known faces of the scene, including dynamic frontman and singer Chandler Mogel (Outloud, Jeff Waters’ Amerikan Kaos, Punky Meadows, etc.), super drummer Scott Duboys (ex-Warrior Soul) and bass player Scott Metaxas (ex-Prophet) as well as guitar virtuosos Chris Schwartz and Paul Baccash, and keyboard maestro Alex Lubin, DOUBLE VISION recently considered working on their own music, still owing a debt and strong influence to the Foreignersound.

Gathering the immediate interest of the Frontiers label, which supported the band’s plans, with the release of their self-titled album, DOUBLE VISION now makes its foray into the world of original music. While they showed they are truly second to none at recreating the masterful songs Foreigner fans worldwide have come to love, DOUBLE VISION now enters the second phase of their career, primed and ready to establish a strong foothold in the melodic rock realm with an album that truly recreates the magic of the 80’s rock vibe with a contemporary take.

SAVAGE LANDS Partner with ESP Guitars

Just like the trees they’re protecting, Savage Lands have roots that run deep. Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and guitarist-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel first joined forces in France during the late ’90s before reuniting two decades later to form the world’s first metal non-profit for biodiversity. Since 2022, their organization has protected more than 100 acres of endangered forest with help from environmentalists and metalheads.

As they prepare once again to bring the metal forest to Hellfest, today, Savage Lands is proud to announce its partnership with ESP Guitars. The two will work together to raise awareness about biodiversity and help fund the preservation projects that Savage Lands is directing in Costa Rica, Europe and Africa.

“Savage Lands is so happy to partner with a great guitar company in ESP. We are looking forward to preparing some nice events and artist collaborations together”, Sylvain says. “I was endorsed by ESP when Dirk and I were playing in a band together back in the ’90s. I always loved their guitars, so it feels natural for Savage Lands to connect with my instrumental roots!”

To ring in their new partnership, Savage Lands are giving away their very own custom ESP EC Series Guitar. Painted forest green and carved with the Army of the Trees logo, this guitar is the only one of its kind.

For a chance to win this exclusive merch item, purchase a ticket for HellRaffle 2025. Savage Lands will use 100% of the money collected from this raffle to finance another land acquisition like the one they recently purchased in Touraine, France.

Enter HellRaffle 2025, HERE.

Other raffle prizes include a NOTOX surfboard and skateboard, drumsticks signed by Dirk Verbeuren and 2 full 4 day passes to Hellfest 2026.

Hellfest is donating one million Euro to Savage Lands after Sylvain and company performed on the main stage at last year’s festival.

Savage Lands debut album is out now on Season of Mist. Army of the Trees features members of Arch Enemy, Obituary, Sepultura, Lord of the Lost, Heilung + more!

Having seen first-hand how deforestation threatens Costa Rica’s rain forest, two angry metalheads are banging their heads together to protect the world’s ecosystem.

“After hearing the chainsaws on a daily basis, we knew it was time to act”, says musician-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel, “because the buzzing is only getting louder”.

Sylvain founded Savage Lands with his long-time friend and Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren in 2022. Thanks to their music, the 501 (c) (3) non-profit has preserved 100,000 square feet of forest in high-risk areas along the Costa Rican coastline. 100% of the royalties from their first album, Army of the Trees, support their ongoing preservation projects in Costa Rica and other countries.

The roots behind Savage Lands run deep. Dirk and Sylvain first met in France during the late ‘90s, when they both played in the socially conscious thrash metal band Artsonic. But just like a tree, the organization is supported by different types of branches.

“As a non-profit, we depend on the support of other organizations, fellow artists and our listeners”, Dirk says.

In Costa Rica, Savage Lands partners with scientists, forest engineers, ecological parks, private businesses and other non-profits. Their Green Alliance (Alianza Verde) has led to more than 11,000 trees being planted in deforested areas throughout Costa Rica thanks to the help of 1,200 volunteers.

“What Savage Lands is doing is fantastic,” says Dr. Jane Goodall, whose global institute is partnering with the metal non-profit’s European branch on preservation projects in France and Africa. “Nature is music. Trees have music, but when we lose species after species, our ecosystem collapses. Savage Lands are using their music to support projects that promote biodiversity, which will help make the world better for future generations”.

Collaboration also fuels the creative fires of Savage Lands. The core band includes Poun and Etienne Treton from the veteran French metalcore band Black Bomb A, along with Loco Muerte’s Florian Pons. When they planted their ecological flag on Hellfest’s main stage in 2024, movers and shakers from across the metal sphere showed up to support. Not only did the festival leader pledge to donate 1 million Euro to the organizations over the next five years. Daniel de Jongh (Textures), Silje Wergeland (The Gathering), Jesper Liveröd (Nasum), Alejandro Montoya (Cultura tres), Vincent Price (Body Count), Billy Graziadei (Biohazard), Shane Embury (Napalm Death) and Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) all joined for an appropriately bloody and scream-worthy rendition of “Roots”.

“I’m happy to be a part of such a truly important cause”, Embury said after the performance. “We are connected with every living thing on this planet and Savage Lands is helping to preserve nature’s treasures”.

Army of the Trees features even more metallic fire power. Out of the sludgy distortion that spews from “The Last Howl” crawls Obituary’s John Tardy, who pays a fitting tribute to the endangered Howler monkey by unleashing his inner primate with spit-flinging growls. “Black Rock Heart” carves out a wickedly blackened groove, though the song’s aggressive chug is fueled by more spiritual concerns. “We wanted the music to reflect our mounting frustration with the way the real estate heat wave is destroying Costa Rica’s ecosystem”, Sylvain says. “For so long, nature has been trying to warn us that we’re putting our future at risk”. Who else could represent the magical spirit of the forest but visionary artist Chloé Trujillo and Heilung’s chief of ceremonies Kai Uwe Faust.

Heilung are also working with Savage Lands outside of the recording studio. The world-famous Nordic collective donated $1 for every ticket sold during their most-recent U.S. tour to support their Season of Mist labelmates. “Supporting Savage Lands was an easy decision for us”, says Maria Franz, whose soothing high notes grace the melancholic power ballad “No Remedy”.

“That’s another beautiful thing about Savage Lands”, Sylvain says. “As a band, we’re not limited to just one genre. We can adapt to boost the strengths of whomever is joining us”.

Savage Lands’ debut album introduces several new species of metalhead to their ecosystem. Eurovision’s darlings Lord Of The Lost spill their blood and glitter over the spiky riffs that puncture “Out of Breath”. Holding court over lead single “Ruling Queen” with her serpentine cleans and lioness roar is none other than Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz. “Now is the time to take a stand”, the band roar in a fierce rallying cry during the album’s climactic title track, backed by Julien Truchan from Benighted and other pillars from the French metal community.

“Our goals are attainable,” Sylvain and Dirk say. “By converting the land that we purchase into nature sanctuaries, Savage Lands will help set a precedent for environmental activism. But we must work together and quickly. Ecosystems are still under attack. If we don’t, then there won’t be any wildlife left to save”.

Raise your horns and join the Army of the Trees in support of the metal  non-profit.

REDIKIN is back with a fiery new lyric video for their song “You”—a bold callout to manipulation and power plays. With infectious riffs and unapologetic vocals, this groove-laden rock track delivers raw attitude and truth like never before. The opening line says it all: “You don’t listen to lyrics, do you?” Well, now you will.

“You” is taken from REDIKIN’s album The Crux, out now via Wormholedeath. The band continues to push boundaries, blending infectious grooves with high-energy rock and undeniable attitude.
