ALCATRAZZ Awarded Trademark! The Very Long Dispute with Former Lead Vocalist Graham Bonnet Has Come to an End

ALCATRAZZ are happy to announce that the very long dispute with former lead vocalist Graham Bonnet has come to an end. The United States Trademark Trial & Appeals Board have today ruled in the favor of the original founding members of the band Jimmy Waldo and Gary Shea, and not in favor of departed vocalist Graham Bonnet. There is, and will be, only one band called “Alcatrazz”.

The band comments:

“Graham quit the band in 2020, leaving us on the eve of our 2020 album release “Born Innocent”… he has stated this clearly in many interviews since then, while we have continued with significant touring and album releases, and are now working on our next studio album for BraveWords Records, we are delighted that the courts have recognized this unfortunate episode for what it was, and is, and thus, Alcatrazz is now a registered trademark and we move forward with the utmost confidence and dedication to making more Alcatrazz Heavy Metal music… this is now our third album since Graham’s departure so this is all well and truly behind us”

The band and Bonnet had been engaged in a public and heated dispute over the Alcatrazz band name since 2021, with the remaining members revealing that Graham’s excessive drinking and significant lip-synching during live performances had taken a huge toll on the bands brand and reputation.

“We are putting all that behind us now, we wish Graham well and we know via various mutual contacts that he wishes the same for us”.

“He is happy doing what he is doing, and we are happy continuing on our path”

BraveWords Records recently released the re-record of “Island In The Sun (Re-Opened 2025)” by Alcatrazz. The single is available on all digital services.

About ALCATRAZZ:
Alcatrazz, formed in 1983 in Los Angeles, has been as well known for the legendary players and singers who have passed throughout the bands ranks as much as they have for their music.

Formed originally by the trio of Jimmy Waldo, Gary Shea (both fresh from late 70’s hitmakers New England and the short lived band Warrior featuring a pre-Kiss Vinnie Vincent) along with vocalist Graham Bonnet (himself with impressive credentials having been a then recent member of Rainbow and the Michael Schenker Group) the band set about completing the line up with drummer Jan Uvena (formerly of Alice Cooper) and a then very young Yngwie Malmsteen, a guitarist who had quickly made a name for himself upon arriving in the USA in the early 80s. The band issued their now classic debut “No Parole From Rock N Roll” album (1983) which was met with universal critical acclaim. Yngwie was soon to depart in favor of Steve Vai just in time for the bands second album “Disturbing The Peace” (1985).

The bands mission has always been a not necessarily stable line-up, but of an evolving union of established performers all forming a “supergroup” of sorts, one with perhaps more guitar fire-power than many, but definitely also with the songs to back it up.

Vocalist Doogie White (himself also formerly of Rainbow and Michael Schenker) served a successful two album stint with the band, while the “shred-lord” himself…the acclaimed Joe Stump (also a very established solo artist and a Berklee college professor) has now been the bands longest serving guitarist, with this year now making his 6th continuing year as a member of the band.

Longtime Graham Bonnet and Alcatrazz collaborator, producer, songwriter and vocalist Giles Lavery is now the man behind the microphone, having proved he was an inspired choice on two recent U.S. tours — having worked with the band in numerous other creative capacities since 2017 the band feel it was a logical move, but also one chosen on merit. Giles can be heard on the recent BraveWords Records release, Jack Starr’s “Out Of The Darkness Part II” as well as his studio and live work with U.S. metal legends Warlord, a band who feature non-other than Mark Zonder on drums…himself a former member of the Graham Bonnet Band, Fates Warning, and worth noting here… as he is also currently leading the band A-Z who feature none other than Alcatrazz main man keyboardist Jimmy Waldo! confused yet? don’t be, as all of this proves that there is a firm but perhaps overlooked consistency and lineage to what on the surface may seem like an ever evolving band personnel.

Indeed Jimmy Waldo continues to be the heart and soul of Alcatrazz… as aside from being the bands talented keyboardist, he has been the one who would, over the bands career find himself at the centre of all band affairs and decision making, from booking the band in the early days, working closely with the bands various record labels, to making sure other members, at the height of 1980s rock n roll decadence were present and accounted for when it came time to get the work done…”i think i even drove the tour bus once or twice back then” says Waldo… in fact it was Jimmy himself who personally selected Steve Vai out of a number of other contenders for the guitarist position in 1984 when Yngwie Malmsteen chose to move on to his own distinguished solo career.. “alot of people have come and gone over the years” says Jimmy… “It’s kept it fresh and we are hardly the only band like that, we still have myself and Gary still holding down the frontline from that early era” Chris Impellitteri historically was one such player in line for the job, who may not have made it into the bands ranks back in 1984, but who in 2020 finally recorded with the band as a special guest on the successful “Born Innocent” album (co-produced by Giles and Jimmy).

Bassist Gary Shea, he who named the band and designed the bands logo no less… came up with the above-mentioned iconic album titles (lets also not forget “Live Sentence”) as noted above, has been flying the Alcatrazz flag with Jimmy for over 4 decades now and is looking forward to this next phase. Gary’s recently published book “No Bass, No Party” is also an essential read for those wanting to delve deeper into the Alcatrazz story!

Hardcore Rap Fans Celebrate ‘Blk Sknhds’ Video from New York Rap Legends ONYX

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Onyx. Leave a comment

New York rap legends Onyx have already hit hard with their latest album, Lower East Side, but just in case you missed the excitement, the video for the opening track “Blk Sknhds” will certainly keep you up all night.

Directed by Onyx themselves, with Director of Photography Chris Rouse and editor Ryan Pinkall, “Blk Sknhds” is a compulsive melange of live and offstage shots, the imagery as hypnotic as the song’s own drifting rhythm and mantric hook.

As rapreviews.com put it, “[‘Blk Sknhds’ is]… a reference to the innovations and trends Onyx has brought to hip-hop: Bald-headed street rappers with the energy of hardcore heavy metal fans.”

It was back in 1988 that Fredro Starr formed Onyx, with Sticky Fingaz joining three years later. Since then, Onyx have remained among the most exhilarating bands on the hip hop scene, an incendiary marriage of hardcore confrontation, slam dancing (remember 1993’s platinum selling “Slam”?) and even onstage fighting.

They’ve never let up since, and Lower East Side is as hard-hitting as any of its predecessors.  Exquisitely produced by Lord Nez it’s a truly excoriating rampage inspired by the chaos, aggression and rage that is so much a part of the modern world – but one that uniquely offers both solutions and vision that reach far beyond mere fury and protest.

Adding to the excitement, Fredro’s no-holds-barred autobiography Bacdafucup: The Story Of Onyx was published just a couple of months ago; he has also just been interviewed by BigBoyTV, looking back over his career – and forward, too. It’s compulsive viewing. Watch below.

Lower East Side Track List:

  1. Blk Sknhds
  2. We Will Rob U
  3. America’s Nightmare
  4. Stray Shots
  5. Tear Shit Up
  6. Rock Boxx
  7. Lower East Side
  8. Get Wasted
  9. Monsters Under My Bed
  10. Over Petty Shit
  11. NY What Up
  12. Green Eggs and Spam

CRYPTOPSY Named Decibel Cover Artist for 250th Issue

While already enshrined amongst the magazine’s unholy Hall of Fame, in the 30+ years since their ungentle exhumation from the Canadian underground, Cryptopsy had never graced the cover of Decibel. But now, the band’s new album An Insatiable Violence has turned the worm in their favor.

Today, Decibel announced Cryptopsy as the cover artist for their 250th issue. The cover photo, which was taken by Shimon Karmel, honors their legacy as the most vile band in death metal. All four members spoke with long-time Decibel contributor Justin M. Norton about the eerily prescient concept behind An Insatiable Violence and how their new album continues Cryptopsy’s resurgence.

“We are honored to be on the cover of Decibel magazine’s 250th issue”, Cryptopsy says. “Decibel is by far one of the most important metal magazines. The fact that we get to grace its cover is a monumental achievement. Of course, we had to do something special and dig up some worms for this now iconic photo shoot!”

“I can’t believe it’s taken us 250 issues and 21 years to finally put Cryptopsy on Decibel‘s cover”, says the magazine’s editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian. “The Canadian legends have been long-deserving, but the fact that their appearance coincides with their best album in over two decades is a reward for everyone who loves death metal”.

“This cover feature is based on more than 15 interviews and tells the entire arc of Cryptopsy’s history, from their rise in the ’90s to their challenges this century to their excellent new album An Insatiable Violence“, Norton says. “As an original Cryptopsy fan dating back to the ’90s, it was a full-circle experience and a great challenge to chronicle their history and comeback”.

“I was thrilled and honored to get the call from Decibel to go to Montreal to shoot the might Cryptopsy for their cover story”, says Karmel. “Cryptopsy was one of the first death metal bands I ever saw live (all the way back in 2002) so they’ve always been special to me. Flo and the guys had a pretty clear idea of what they wanted to do for the cover shot so I essentially just lit and composed it. The guys showed up with a couple boxes of live worms and we just took it from there. It was a super fun shoot and I’m totally stoked with how it turned out!”

Decibel Issue No. 250 can be ordered through the magazine’s website.

An Insatiable Violence comes out June 20 on Season of Mist.

A person spends all day building a machine, only for it to torture them through the night. As if that wasn’t twisted enough, they like it. In fact, they like being tortured so much that, come morning, they wake up rejuvenated, eager to tweak the machine until it runs perfectly in their mind.

This is the nocturnal vision that inspired Cryptopsy’s ninth full-length nightmare. An Insatiable Violence mirrors our toxic relationship with social media, but while eerily prescient, the album is influenced by the many mutations that have defined the band’s Hall of Fame discography. The album’s lead single bumps and grinds with gruesome bass slaps – and yet, at its core “Until There’s Nothing Left” stakes its claim as their biggest earworm.

Cryptopsy recognize that not every brutal technical death metal band sticks around long enough to win a Canadian Grammy 30 years into their career. The cover for An Insatiable Violence was created by the band’s late, great vocalist Martin Lacroix, who would growl with unholy delight over the freshly fetid depths of Matt McGachy’s false chord scream.

But despite having claimed the crown as the most vile band in death metal on only their second stab in the studio, Cryptopsy are still pushing the limits of extremity on An Insatiable Violence. Even Flo Mounier – who literally wrote the book on extreme metal drumming – has honed new techniques to keep their blasphemy fresh. For its finishing move, album closer “Malicious Needs” slithers to a crawl before ascending like a bat into a blackened cloud of smoke.

Bow to the new vileness from extreme metal royalty.

Metalheads who are chomping at the bit for An Insatiable Violence can further their appetite by revisiting Cryptopsy’s hallowed catalogue. Since signing with Season of Mist in 2024, the band have reissued their 1993 demo Ungentle Exhumation, revered debut Blasphemy Made Flesh, the widely-worshiped None So Vile, their triumphant self-titled and The Book of Suffering Tome I + II, which is now available for the first time on one combined LP.

PRIMAL FEAR Unveil Fiery New Single And Music Video ‘The Hunter’

Less than three months before their new album “Domination” hits the shelves (September 5, 2025 via Reigning Phoenix Music), German metal frontrunners PRIMAL FEAR shift up another gear with ‘The Hunter.’ The second single from the record tells a conceived story while it musically sounds the attack for the quintet’s upcoming record.

Being also the opening track of “Domination,” the track builds up tension with anthemic lead harmonies before bursting drums and guitars break through the idyll to set the tone for another highly melodic piece from PRIMAL FEAR’s musical forge. The single additionally cements the thoroughly positive impression the group left with first single ‘Far Away,’ which saw them introduce their striking new line-up.

“Science fiction scenery, the beast is behind you, it’s me, I’m THE HUNTER, so better watch out, I smell your blood and I’m gonna get you!” warns vocalist Ralf Scheepers grinningly.

Picking up the dystopian theme of the single, director Patric Ullaeus (IN FLAMES, AMARANRATHE, EVERGREY etc.) placed the band — Scheepers, bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner, guitarists Thalìa Bellazecca and Magnus Karlsson, and drummer André Hilgers — in ruined environment to create a ‘metal as f**k’ music video where they find themselves surrounded by hellfire.

About PRIMAL FEAR

Going strong for nearly three decades, the band founded and still led by Mat Sinner (bass, vocals) and Ralf Scheepers (vocals) have never let down their global fanbase. Relentless and constantly pushing their limits, PRIMAL FEAR ensure that no two albums ever sound the same. After “Code Red” [2023] hit some of the highest chart positions of their career, expectations for the next release were higher than ever. Now joined by gifted guitarist Thalìa Bellazecca and former touring drummer André Hilgers, the quintet were more than up for the challenge. And as “Domination” makes clear, no obstacle is too great for PRIMAL FEAR’s powerhouse songwriting trio – Sinner, Scheepers, and guitarist Magnus Karlsson, who also rejoins the band’s live line-up after several years away.

From the hard-hitting opener ‘The Hunter’ and first single ‘Far Away,’ to the uplifting mid-tempo anthem ‘Tears Of Fire’ and the epic ballad ‘Eden’ – featuring a surprise guest appearance by AD INFINITUM’s Melissa Bonny – “Domination” delivers on all fronts. Add in neck-breakers like ‘Scream’ and ‘Crossfire,’ and the reflective, string-and-piano-driven closer ‘A Tune I Won’t Forget,’ and it’s clear: PRIMAL FEAR aren’t here to reclaim the crown – they’re here to prove they’ve never left the throne of heavy/power metal royalty.

PRIMAL FEAR are:
Ralf Scheepers | vocals
Mat Sinner | bass, vocals
Magnus Karlsson | guitars
Thalìa Bellazecca | guitars
André Hilgers | drums
